Diner Reviews
  • "Really enjoyed the vibe of Southern Joe's Kitchen. Great soul music and really friendly team members. I enjoyed the food but if I was being picky, the Chicken was a little dry."

  • "Went to Joe's to meet some friends. Arrived early to meet at the bar. The bar staff and service was very attentive and friendly whilst we waited for our table. Service was also good at the table however the food was very average. Three of our group had the popcorn shrimp which arrived barely warm and with a rubber consistency. All three of us sent it back. For the main three people had chicken and one of us the burger. Again the fries were not particularly hot and the chicken received mixed reviews with no-one having great things to say about the salad that accompanied it. Drop into Joe's if you want to grab a drink but I think there are better places to go for food and none of our group will be heading back for dinner"

  • "We had lunch at Joe's for lunch before Matilda and it started the day off well, the staff were lovely, food was great and they made a fuss of our daughter we a special brownie pudding"

  • "We went looking for a bit of an American experience, and the fried chicken with hot sauce didn't disappoint. The slow service did, however. The food was generally good and value high, since, let's face it, you can only charge so much for chicken, even excellent chicken in large quantities. The space is fun and the atmosphere very "Park Avenue South". But that's where the "South" ended as far as we could tell: the corn, the collard greens, the cornbread muffins just didn't reflect what we expected. And, again, the service was far from American: wine came 3/4ths of the way through the food, sauce was hard to come by, pre-dinner drinks were ordered with dinner, since the server was not to be found. Neat concept though."

  • "We had southern fried chicken and the nashville chicken special and was amazing! When the dishes first came out it didn't look like much but once you got into it you realised looks were deceiving! It beatcus both so we got it to go and had it the next morning. Our server was lovely too, and service was quick."

  • "Had the southern fried chicken, the portions are massive! I recommend the mac and cheese and fried sweet potatoes."

  • "Great food, good prices and cheap cocktails. We enjoyed our trip and no one left hungry. I would go again definitely"

  • "Quite a funky restaurant and a very nice place to be. Service was good and the staff were friendly. Great cocktails, especially as it was happy hour! The food came out really quickly which suggests it is not cooked to order which is a bit of a negative point for me. My fried chicken came with creamed potatoes which is a slightly odd combo but tasty all the same."

  • "Been before twice at less busier times and the students difference in service was night and day.a friend s main took ages to come and we had almost finished by the time it arrived, a simple request for a smaller spoon to eat dessert took 2 requests and 2 people who looked shocked by such a request, I don't like eating dessert with a shovel sized spoon, by the time it arrived the ice cream had half melted and the hot chocolate sauce was cold. Still the food was very nice over all"

  • "Been to Joe's several times and the food is delicious. It is noisy but the music and atmosphere is good and the place is always busy. Te fried chicken and beef rib are to die for. Great cocktails and friendly service though can be a little slow at times. Recommended!"

  • "Went with my wife and son for a bite on a Saturday evening. We arrived a little early for our booking, so were asked to sit at the bar for a little while, which was fine. Our drinks had just arrived when our able was ready, so this worked out well. Our waitress, sorry I forget her name, but she was from north Wales, was really good, explained dishes well and a good way about her. Food came promptly, decent break between starter and main, food was good apart from the fried potato side. Would recommend to friends, and would go again."

  • "A firm favourite of ours and always such goid value. First time we have gone eith a veggie and she loved it too!"

  • "The restaurant had a great atmosphere, our waiter was excellent, but the service charge is annoying, it suggests to me, that you cannot trust your customers to tip for great service. The food was good, but value for money, not in my opinion."

  • "Rather pricey for the value and quality they provide. The recipes don't cover all the ingredients, which make a huge difference for me. For example, the artichoke and spinach dip I ordered was heavily based on cheese, which wasn't listed. I wanted a artichoke and spinach dip, not a heavy, creamy, cheese soup, in which you can hardly find artichokes. Also, everything is deep fried. Overall taste is OK, but not the best either."

  • "Very good authentic Southern food, portions are very big especially the prison plate! highly recommendable"

  • "The food was great but what memes us go back to JOes is the brilliant service - from the doorman to the waitress, they all genuinely appear to want to give you a really enjoyable experience."

  • "We went here on a Friday after work as part of our informal supper club. From start to finish our experience was great. The good was top quality and no one had any complaints. The southern fried chicken was probably some of the best I have ever had. Everyone left the restaurant with full stomachs aching for a sleep. There was only a couple of mix ups. One side came up incorrectly and there was a bit of miscommunication between the bar and the waiting staff which meant a little wait for a round of drinks but overall we could not complain. Staff was friendly and sorted out both the mis ups with with speed and apologies. If you are thinking about it just do it. Couldn't recommend highly enough."

  • "Great restaurant with fantastic food and excellent staff. Cocktails were amazing, and the staff did an excellent job at keeping us supplied with food. Easily the best chicken I have eaten in a long while, and the gravy is superb. The food did not disappoint."

  • "Very friendly staff. Great atmosphere. Good food, especially the Oreo dessert."

  • "Good food, good cocktails, and great central location without being a tourist trap. Starter of jalepeno poppers was really small though-only 3 tiny jalepenos!"

  • "An awesome meal set in a fantastic area. My favourite restaurant in the uk"

  • "The quality of the food is amazing. Both starters and mains were as a treat to the tongue. Service is also outstanding. Can be pricey but I suppose it is Central London!"

  • "Met a friend here for lunch as they had the 50% off two courses offer on and I spied a softshell crab option on the menu (I love softshell crab!). The restaurant didn't disappoint! The crab was delicious, nicely seasoned and perfectly cooked. The coleslaw was good, too, not too 'goopy' like some UK restaurants serve it. Nice staff who weren't too interfering but just the right level of attentive. I would definitely recommend this place for a casual lunch or meal. "

  • "The food was just OK, nothing spectacular and portions were small. I think that the portion size and quality of the food did not correlate to the price. It's not expensive by any stretch of the imagination but it was too much for what you get. The music was far, far too loud. The volume was so excessive, we couldn't hear ourselves speak at dinner without yelling. I expect this in a bar, not a restaurant. The service was painfully slow, we had to wait forever every time we wanted to order something and the food took forever to come out. The service was so bad we got up to leave before we paid as we were waiting for such a long time for the bill, It was only when we stood up to leave that the waitress bothered to take payment. Not good."

  • "We'd wanted to go to Navajo Joe's for its splendid margaritas, but thought we would give this successor a try. Everything was OK - but not really better than that. Staff were friendly, but one was new and didn't know much about the food or drinks. The happy hour cocktails were reasonably cheap but neither exciting nor particularly good; we'd have felt ripped off if they'd been at full price. The food was similarly nothing to write home about - although competently cooked and generous, there were few bold flavours until hot sauce was liberally added. We wouldn't not come back here again, but we wouldn't rush back either."

  • "A good restaurant with great service, sadly I dined with two Southern Belles who questioned the authenticity of some of the recipes, but overall I had a lovely meal. Save room for desert"

  • "I will definitely be coming back to Joe's Southern Kitchen for the food and the service. On both occasions I've dined here, the waitresses were OUTSTANDING. Bubbly, welcoming and professional. They knew enough about the menu to provide helpful information. The food was mouth-wateringly good, we all ate till our stomachs were overloaded! The fact that they provide 'doggy bags' to take home leftovers is a bonus reason to come. Just the thought of wasted food makes me want to weep when others are starving in this world. I don't think there is much this restaurant could do to improve my view. I tell everyone how great this place is and I know some have tried it (and enjoyed it) based on my recommendation."

  • "Came here saturday (17th May) we wanted an early dinner before we went for drinks. Nice/funky inside, they have a pretty cool bar which a few people were sat at having drinks, great atmosphere, service was really good and our waiter was lovely (and fit ;) and more importantly the food was delish!!! We had the fried chicken, chips and we shared mac n cheese because we wanted to try it and we're beasts, all were amaaaaazing. We also had a few cocktails and they were lovely too, none of this filling the glass with ice, it definately had alcohol in! which is always good . would definately come back if I lived in London."

  • "Lovely staff, great interior. Food is a touch overpriced but very well cooked and extremely tasty. Wish they served the sub sandwiches as part of the dinner menu."

  • "Amazing selection of true, authentic Southern American food. Always book a table here every time we are in London. Our favourites include the southern fried chicken, pulled pork buns, mac 'n' cheese & devilled eggs. Very attentive service with great drinks and cocktails with a great bar downstairs."

  • "We got there at 21:07 having booked a table for 2 at 21:15. Although there visibly were free tables, the guy at reception told us to come back at 21:15. The table was booked about a week earlier, yet we were given the last table at the bottom of the loft in front of the bar: dark, tiny, unable to see anything. We order beers, and the beer can. Fine, the waiter brings us our beers, and about 12 minutes later tells us the beer can is no longer availabler. It's just 21:30! 'N you tell us so late?! Fine, we change our orders: prison plate and fried chicken. The latter was RAW: awful! In such cases, customers are usually offered something, which obviously did not happen here. I'm a Virginian and it's a shame they call themselves southern kitchen."
