Diner Reviews
  • "Food was good. Service was ok. An the bill was not excessive. Good value for money"

  • "Our expectations were high as the restaurant came with high recommendations from Northern Indian sources. Having overcome the stile of the ghastly plastic menu, which had all our party a little nervous we ate the most authentic Indian food we have ever had outside that wonderful country. So , the food was on the button, the service was very warm with smiling faces, the bill most sensible, but we had had no wine so can make no comment on that, although we thought the choice of whisky was limited, but it did not upset us. My guests pleaded that we should come again. "

  • "Really lovely restaurant, we went there for valentines day and it turned out to be a perfect place. The only problem I had it was a bit chilly inside, especially in the bathrooms. The food was amazing, we ordered 4 mains cause we couldn't decide what we wanted - everything on the menu sounded really good! We had to wait for a little while to be served and the waiters weren't particularly chatty, they would just leave the food on your table without saying anything.. but it might be just because they weren't that good at English. But I definitely would recommend this place, the food was sooo yummy!! we're definitely going back next time we're in Birmingham!"

  • "excellent starters; reasonable mains although not as spicy as I was expecting. Small (very small) point - not much for the teetotaller - only 2 mocktails which weren't very inspiring to be honest. Otherwise really good."

  • "Went to this restaurant in a party of three on Friday 6th Dec at 7.30pm. There were a few Christmas parties in but the place wasn't packed which is why i have marked down the service because it took absolutely ages for any of the waiting staff to see to us. There were plenty of waiting staff but the job of seeing to customers/bringing food to tables appears to be reserved for a select one or two because the rest just seemed to stand around rearranging glasses on tables with no customers while actual customers sat twiddling their thumbs waiting to order or waiting for their food to arrive. We had ta ask on 3 separate occasions when our food was likely to arrive which was a shame because when the food did arrive it was delicious."

  • "Due to the Christmas market, the restaurant was a bit empty, but filled up quickly after 7.30pm. The food was lovely, and the staff were helpful with explaining any part of the dish you didn't understand. Service was quick and the wine was lovely (although there wasn't a brilliant wine selection)."

  • "The meal was a total success and an experience in flavour and taste. The service was quick, efficient and friendly and i would definitely reccommend the restaurant to anyone. The only thing that i would comment on is the price but then again you get what you pay for."

  • "Good service and good quality food. The food seemed more classically Indian with a slight Nepalese twist rather than a true Nepalese restaurant. The lay out of the restaurant was appealing."

  • "Booked in advance and received a very warm welcome. The food was served quickly and the waiters were very attentive. The waiters gave us plenty of time to decide what to eat and didn't rush us out of the restaurant as soon as the bill had been paid. This restaurant is a gem and I hope that their outstanding customer service continues. Highly recommended!"

  • "My wife and I celebrated our Silver Wedding Anniversary at Jojolapa. After all the party of the weekend with friends and family, I was very nice on the actual day to have a romantic quiet meal for two and get the best of service and the best of food. Well Done Jojolapa!"

  • "Great experience and fantastic food, part of a ten person group and the food was delivered hot and fresh as if there was just two of us."

  • "Had a brilliant meal at Jojolapa's on Saturday. Was one of the best meals i've ever had, the service was excellent and would happily return just for that, the food was amazing, and was excellently presented. I definitely plan on returning again soon!"

  • "A nice restaurant with a friendly and casual atmosphere. Service was fine and the food was lovely, with lots of choice. An enjoyable and relaxing evening."

  • "Lovely food and service was excellent. Also good value for a restaurant in town"

  • "Fantastic service throughout the night - we were made to feel very welcome from the moment we walked through the door! Delicious cocktails from the bar, and amazing food. We shared a Chicken Choyla starter - absolutely beautiful - tender chicken, perfectly spiced, and oozing with flavour. For mains, the King Prawn Chilli Garlic and Lamb Biryani. The king prawn dish was deliciously rich and creamy, brimming with flavour. The lamb in the biryani was cooked to perfection - melt in the mouth and with just the right level of spice. Portion sizes were spot on - we would have liked more purely because of the taste, but left feeling full and satisfied. Prices were very reasonable, ~£50 each and we splashed out on drinks! Would highly recommend."

  • "Quick and efficient service, and the food was really lovely and varied. Would definitely go again. If I had to change one thing I would make the menus clearer. Nothing was lacking in terms of flavour or service, very happy!"

  • "We chose this restaurant having looked at its positive reviews and the fact it was Nepalese. It was attractively decorated and spacious. Although we were the first customers as it had only just opened we were shown a table by the window which more intimate. The staff were very polite and helpful. We chose the set menu as it would give a wider range of food and were very impressed with the quality and presentation. Within a short space of time the restaurant was filling up and I could see some of them were regulars. We are visitors to Birmingham and would highly recommend Jojolapa."

  • "It was a year or two since we'd visited. Restaurant was very quiet until nearly 9pm (Wednesday) which led to a lack of ambience. Although when booking I asked for a 'nice' table for friends who hadn't been before our welcome was very casual and we were waved to choose any table (maybe understandable given the lack of customers). Nice poppadoms - dry and a good selection of chutneys etc. I enjoyed my starter of tandoori chicken but main courses seemed to lack the outstanding touch which we remembered from a few years ago. (Husband had the lamb rogan josh which in the past has been outstanding - said it was not as good as he remembered) We may recommend and go again but not as eagerly as previously - hope others can convince me otherwise."

  • "Went for an evening meal on a saturday at around 8pm and thinking that it was peak time, it would have been busy but the it wasn't. There was only one other family in there. It also had a slight stale smell to it. However when the food arrived, it made up for the other downsides!"

  • "This was a good place to go and good value. I had asked for some advice about a special sweet on the booking as it was my daughter's birthday, but this was never responded to or mentioned. It didn't matter in the end, but it would have added to the experience"
    dined on 18/12/2012
  • "Great food with a good selection of dishes (including veggie). Unfortunately they couldn't get us through the meal quick enough - which included trying to take dishes we were still eating. We were eating on a busy Friday night but I still don't expect to be rushed like that. Also, they added a service charge to the bill without telling us or stating this policy on the menu."
    dined on 14/12/2012
  • "Booked for a group of 9, we had the set menu, the food was amazing (could have fed double) and the service was second to none. I have already recommended to a few people and look forward to going back."

  • "A group of 8 of us visited this restaurant on Saturday. There was a warm welcome and good atmosphere in the restaurant. Service was very good and the food excellent. We had a great evening."

  • "Very tasty food and a good selection of cocktails. The service was slightly slow despite the restaurant not being full, and the manager was unable to recommend a dish for me to try from the menu!"
    dined on 01/12/2012
  • "The food here was very good, especially the huge choice of vegetarian options. The only let down was the service... We were not offered dessert options/tea/coffee although they were on the menu. We were a party of 16 people, I think they surely lost out. Plates were cleared and were were left to our own devices for 45 mins until I went to the bar to ask for the bill. When we had someone at the table, they were very friendly. Perhaps they are not used to large parties..."
    dined on 16/10/2012
  • "We had a good evening here, but I was hoping (perhaps wrongly) for a greater distinction between the curries available here and a normal Indian restaurant. Maybe my taste buds couldn't detect the difference. Nice restaurant though, good food and service, was just hoping for something a bit more exotic."
    dined on 27/03/2012
  • "great food once again. Relaxed atmosphere, attentive service and really tasty food. Great value, highly recommended"
    dined on 05/12/2011
  • "A great Nepalese twist of you like Indian food, the menu had some lovely chefs specials that were well worth a try. The service was patchy with some long waits just to be seen so there is a need to pipe up and ask for the next course, a dessert menu and the bill. Decent wine list at reasonable prices too. We were there with a very noisy, all male, Christmas party going on in the next section which was a bit out of control but not the fault of the restaurant. Overall the experience was a good one and I would recommend it."

  • "food was great and a really lovely atmosphere. The service was really good and we were not rushed through our meal. I would definately recommend this restaurant for value and service."

  • "We dined at Jojolapa in Birmingham for the second time this having been there just two weeks ago. Whilst much of the menu has similarities to many Indian restaurants, the flavours are somewhat unexpected. Having enjoyed the Chicken Nentaza and Keema Muttar so much the last time, we had to have the same dishes again. The service is friendly, the ambience is warm and the food makes you want to go back for more."

  • "Jojolapa in Birmingham was very quiet on the Wednesday evening that I went. The reception was warm and the staff were helpful in explaining the menu and making recommendation. The food was well prepared and well presented and good value, especially with the 20% discount arranged through Top Table. A perfectly pleasant place for a solid meal at a decent price."
    dined on 26/01/2011
  • "Jojolapa - Birmingham (Nepalese / Indian cuisine) Excellent food and attentive service. I would particularly recommend the Tibetan dumplings - 'momos'- as a starter"
    dined on 21/01/2011
  • "Jojolapa.... great place which caters to all tastes. we were a group of 10+ , some with anglo tastes, some native indians and some even from nepal ! Everyone walked out having really enjoyed the meal/ Staff were attentive but not overbearing, friendly and flexible. Would definetely go back."
    dined on 20/01/2011
  • "Our first visit to Jojolapa in Birmingham was excellent. After a warm welcome we were guided to a nicely located table where the waiter explained various items on the menu. I chose dishes from the Nepalese selection rather than the Indian choices and the food was superb. My expectation was for the food to taste like most other 'Indian' food but I surprised by some new and interesting flavours, including the Keema Mataar which my husband chose. The ambience was great and the service was excellent."

  • "Reliably good food here. Plastic costed menu's could be improved to better suit the standard of food here as they make it feel a little cheap. The only problem can be speed of service when the restaurant is packed but usually the staff keep on top of it!"
