A word from Kensington Place
Notting Hill’s favorite neighborhood brasserie is a much loved iconic spot in the heart of W8 serving modern British brasserie style food with a strong emphasis on fish and seafood. Expect to find a fabulous space, a buzzing ambience and fantastic service with a recently refreshed interior that is both chic and relaxed.
The wine list, recently winning ‘Best Wine List’ award at Taste of London 2012, features a small boutique range of wines from around the world with an aim to match and complement the large array of fresh fish available on the menu.
Kensington Place’s private dining room, The Room, seats up to 24 guests on one table, or up to 40 guests in total and can hold as many as 70 guests for a drinks and canapés reception. The space is one of the very few purpose-built private rooms in London. The Room, like the restaurant, was designed by Polly Dickens, and has a bright and airy feel with a high vaulted ceiling , in the center of which sits a generous skylight.

Diner Reviews
  • "We had Sunday lunch and the restaurant was very busy. The lunch menu is great value, a la carte slightly more expensive but better choices. Service attentive but not rushed!"

  • "Our tenth visit to Kensington Place in the past year or so. The 2 course deal plus a glass of prosecco for £20 is really excellent value and the standard of cooking was as usual very good. Service was attentive and friendly. Only criticism is the set menu is not changed often enough"
    dined on 19/04/2014
  • "We ate here on a Thursday night and found that although the food was good, the service was quite bad. We sat with no water and no menus for 5 minutes before someone first came to us and when the staff did come it wasn't the best. Across various waiters and waitresses they all said the words words ("Enjoy your meal"), but generally in passing and with no interest in any potential response. For example, after delivering a dish a waitress would swing by and without stopping nor waiting for a response mutter "How is your meal?", not caring or displaying any interest if she may have forgotten anything. All in all we would not go back."

  • "Although Kensington Place has been in the same place for over 20 years, it is always refreshing itself with a bright modern interior and British/ International menu. It was nice to be in a restaurant with plenty of space around the tables as far to many places try to cram in as many customers as possible. "

  • "We enjoyed our Proseco dinner. We visit this restaurant often and were never dissapointed."

  • "I love this restaurant and always go there when I am looking to have excellent fish. Not only is the produce carefully sourced, local, and brilliantly fresh (most of it was fished in cornwall over night), but it is also very nicely prepared, in an un-pretentious yet careful way. I love the grilled fish menu, where you can either chose a simple mackerel or a generous slice of turbot, both perfectly cooked, with some green vegetable sides, or roast potatoes if you prefer. Finally, the waiters are very friendly and extremely helpful with children. We were there for lunch with our 1 year old son, who had a great time."

  • "The food was so good! I really recommend you to try it."
    dined on 10/04/2014
  • "I'd been once before to Kensington Place (a couple of years ago) and considered it to be fine but nothing more. I'm pleased to say that this time around things were much better. The set menu - £20 for two courses and a glass of prosecco - was excellent value for money, and the risotto and creme brûlée I had were both very tasty. Portions were also on the generous side. Great food, great value and great service - I'll definitely be back!"

  • "A lovely afternoon spent for a colleague's leaving lunch. Great food in a lovely space. Would recommend and come back to Kensington Place."
    dined on 02/04/2014
  • "I took my parents there on the £19.95 special offer for 2-courses and a glass of prosecco. The options on the set menu were good - I particularly enjoyed the poached pear salad starter. The mains didn't come with many accompaniments so you really need to order sides as well. There were quite a few diners for a Monday night and it seemed to appeal to an older crowd. The service was very good."
    dined on 31/03/2014
  • "I found the dishes plain and not very imaginative. Servings sizes were quite small. The main meal I had which was grilled monkfish only had a piece if fish on the plate with a a sauce and the plate looked a bare. On top of that the fish didn't taste that great. I had a fairly expensive glass of Shiraz that tasted a bit old/off. The waitress didn't take one of our orders and I had to remind them. In summary I was expecting a top class restaurant based on previous reviews and the area and in reality it was just ordinary."
    dined on 01/04/2014
  • "Great ambience, excellent service and delicious food - the set menu offered a good choice of 5 dishes on each course - the wine list as ever is over priced but a good selection was available with the option on several wines of ordering a 500ml carafe. They also accepted my Top Table dining cheque at payment with no fuss at all. I will be returning......"

  • "Great fish and a varied menu. The set meal was very good value."
    dined on 27/03/2014
  • "A place where you fill free as the atmosphere is friendly, the long window inspires freedom, the food speaks about seas. More freedom than this would be possible only in the Mediterranean. As far as food I should say is fresh and the fish cooked to the right point, something not very common in some restaurants where the fish is overcooked. Very friendly and professional service."
    dined on 19/03/2014
  • "Very enjoyable experience overall. All to a good standard. Service very good with very welcoming staff who, whilst rushed off their feet, were extremely pleasant. As it was so busy with lots of families with lively children it did feel a bit 'school canteen' when we first arrived and all a bit frantic. £90 for 2 people for 2 courses seemed excessive and the 12.5% 'discretionary service' a bit of a mickey take. The fact that this seems to have become acceptable is disappointing. That said the pleasantness of the staff and the overall quality of the food meant we enjoyed the meal nevertheless. However, the price would make us think again before hurrying back."
    dined on 23/03/2014
  • "We went there for a quick bite on the top table and food was good as was the service."
    dined on 22/03/2014
  • "A very enjoyable evening with a friendly welcome and attentive service throughout. The choice of food on the Top Table £20 2 course with prosecco menu had enough to make it hard to decide what to eat - but not overwhelming. The food arrived quickly and was excellent. Choice of wine was also good. I would thoroughly recommend the restaurant and would come again."
    dined on 19/03/2014
  • "Loved the food, I had the pork belly with pulled pork - would really recommend."
    dined on 15/03/2014
  • "By 8. 30 was disappointed to find that only one of the options of the fish on the board was available. Also no crab as a starter. The choices are not that numerous that this is acceptable. You do not go to a fish restaurant to to be offered smoked mackerel and salmon which was the fish that was substituted instead. The excuses given were, sales from the shop, lunch trade and what was available at Billingsgate. It seems that really they just need to buy more fish. I would not risk going there again to be disappointed."
    dined on 12/03/2014
  • "went after the cinema. had one course each plus sides. monkfish which was roasted (recommended rather than grilling) delicious. good service.v attentive. we ordered a carafe- should have ordered a bottle. would certainly go back to what used to be an old haunt."
    dined on 10/03/2014
  • "We chose the £20 Toptable offer which delivered well with Cornish mackerel and roast cod. It comes with a glass of Prosecco. Service was efficient but one of the staff did not really have enough English to understand us. The non-alcoholic cocktail though was so full of sugar as to be undrinkable. Its a busy restaurant with a lively atmosphere. Just needs some improvements at the edges."
    dined on 10/03/2014
  • "Two courses for £20 with prosecco is excellent vfm in this Notting Hill/Bayswater stalwart. Always better for fish than everything else, but still a notable mention to the wild mushroom and black truffle soup. Bread is moreish."
    dined on 07/03/2014
  • "very good service, value for money set menu, perfect for a pre Opera Lunch or dinner"
    dined on 02/03/2014
  • "Really delicious food, good service and nice, busy ambience without being too loud. Have eaten here several times and it is always so good. I particularly love the oysters - they are always so good. The fish pie was fantastic too and the deserts were lovely - Would definitely recommend."

  • "Friendly service, friendly atmosphere so I took some friends and we had a friendly meal."

  • "The atmosphere and the room was warm and inviting. But the service and the efficiency of all the staff was fantastic nothing was any trouble to them also they didn't smoother you. The food was lovely and very good value can't wait to go again."
    dined on 28/02/2014
  • "Went with my girlfriend on the £25 for three courses option. Both had the cod for main. Food was fantastic, and service was good. Restaurant was a little quiet but it was 7pm on a Tuesday night. Would recommend if you want a great meail at a good price!"
    dined on 25/02/2014
  • "Fantastic food and beautifully presented. However, the coffee (at £3.50 per small cup) was extremely expensive in comparison with the remainder of the meal."
    dined on 20/02/2014
  • "Really great seafood - all four of us thought the food was excellent. Both husband and father in law said it was the best fish and chips they had ever had. Chips are amazing. All round great sevice and lovely atmosphere for a Saturday evening."
    dined on 22/02/2014
  • "Had a lovely 3 course top table deal with 2 girlfriends on a Friday night. Restaurant was buzzy, but not overly loud. Staff were attentive and the Cod main course I had was delicious (meaty and succulent). Loads of smoked salmon on my starter too. Only £25 for 3 courses incl glass of Prosecco."
    dined on 21/02/2014
  • "Three of us went for a family dinner on Saturday evening after failing to secure a table in a different restaurant. So the expectation was not so high, but the top-table menu of 25 pounds for a three-course dinner with a glass of proseco was a real bargain. It was very busy as we arrived, with the house completetly full. We became ready for a slow service. But it turned out to be farily quick and friendly. The foods we chose were realtively simple. But they were all fresh and plenty."
    dined on 22/02/2014
  • "Fantastic food and great service in a glamorous setting. I went with a group of friends and we had a wonderful evening, I'll definitely be back."

  • "offers outstanding value for it includes a glass of Champagne"
    dined on 21/02/2014
  • "Kensington Place was thought by some to have declined since Rowley Leigh left. We had heard rumours it had gone downhill and hadn't booked for a while. The Evening Standard offer made us decide to give it a try again. We went on the E£25 for 3 courses offer and a glass of champagne. Far from feeling we were in the cheap seats, the service was good and attentive, the menu choices more than adequate and the food itself was excellent. I started with a very generous portion of smoked salmon, my partner had the mackerel. Both dishes well presented and delicious. We both had roast cod for our main which was perfectly cooked. The desserts were amazingly good, particularly the rhubarb crumble. We will definitely go again soon."
    dined on 20/02/2014
  • "Lovely Sunday lunch. Excellent all round experience and fantastic value with the Evening Standard offer."
    dined on 16/02/2014
  • "food was very good and efficiently served by pleasant staff. We had a really enjoyable evening."
    dined on 14/02/2014
  • "The food was good, bit pricey. Waiter seemed a bit inexperienced and pre-occupied. Waited 10 minutes to be seated despite being there on time for the reservation. Wine was good."
    dined on 08/02/2014
  • "Had a great meal. They know how to cook a great finish dish."
    dined on 07/02/2014
  • "The managers and waiters are always a delight at Kensington Place. Smiley effcient service bringing good cant-cook-easily-at- home dishes."
    dined on 04/02/2014
  • "Booked to dine with my partner and another couple. We had the 2/3 course set menu offer, and found something to everyone's liking. The smoked salmon started was very generously sized and all of the dishes were lovely. Will be going back."
