A word from Kensington Place
Notting Hill’s favorite neighborhood brasserie is a much loved iconic spot in the
heart of W8 serving modern British brasserie style food with a strong emphasis on fish
and seafood. Expect to find a fabulous space, a buzzing ambience and fantastic service
with a recently refreshed interior that is both chic and relaxed.
The wine list, recently winning ‘Best Wine List’ award at Taste of London 2012, features a small boutique range of wines from around the world with an aim to match and complement the large array of fresh fish available on the menu.
Kensington Place’s private dining room, seats up to 24 guests on one table, or up to 40 guests in total and can hold as many as 70 guests for a drinks and canapés reception. The space is one of the very few purpose-built private rooms in London. It has a bright and airy feel with a high vaulted ceiling , in the center of which sits a generous skylight with eclectic décor and art work adorning the walls.

Diner Reviews
  • "Very nice restaurant, the food was excellent, I especially appreciated the deserts. Service was perfect."
    dined on 16/07/2014
  • "We head Kensington Place for lunch before to go to the theatre last Sunday. Booked because the good reviews in Yelp! that make totally sense. The place is very nice, luminous & clean. The staff so professional, their service was amazing, with especial attention to the small details. Is a place we totally recommend to anyone looking for a high quality food."
    dined on 06/07/2014
  • "Quality of fish excellent (cod, sea bass, fish and chips) and service professional, friendly and prompt. Highly recommended. The room is bright and airy so feels like a place to go for the food and buzz rather than a romantic encounter."
    dined on 05/07/2014
  • "Excellent food, we had the set menu, which was delicious and great value. The service was exemplary and the setting and atmosphere is light, airy and very comfortable."
    dined on 05/07/2014
  • "Had a lovely lunch at Kensington Place. Had the 3 course offer with Top Table, but asked for coffee instead of proscecco. I even had an extra coffee at no extra cost. The food was delicious and the lemon meringue sundae to die for. Staff very friendly and helpful. Will definitely come again"

  • "Went here with a girlfriend for lunch and had a lovely yellow fin tuna steak with exquisite vegetables and a gorgeous presentation. We weren't having wine, so I can't speak to the quality of the wine list. The desserts looked good though I didn't have one. Service was attentive but not too pushy, I will definitely come back here."
    dined on 02/07/2014
  • "Having no idea about the area I booked the restaurant based on Tripadvisor reviews. Service was great. Wine was good. Food was just ok."
    dined on 25/06/2014
  • "Kensington Place has been my favourite restaurant for over 20 years. Somehow over a long period of time, they have been able to maintain a consistently high standard, balancing high quality with friendliness. The menu is always inventive, always excellent. The service is friendly yet discrete and alway very prompt. I cannot recommend this restaurant highly enough."
    dined on 17/06/2014
  • "I went for lunch with some girlfriends on a Saturday and the service was fantastic. The waiters were so helpful and friendly and were more than happy to accommodate any request we made. My friends had come to London from Bournemouth so it was much appreciated that they made our lunch so enjoyable. The food was very good, and excellent value for the set menu. Lovely prosecco and generous serving too! Only downside was that there were only 3 other tables, so there wasn't much atmosphere. They hadn't told us until the day that they had a private event on after us so had deliberately kept it quiet- it would have been good to know when we booked."
    dined on 14/06/2014
  • "An excellent neighbourhood restaurant with good non fussy food "

  • "Although I emailed the restaurant in advance that I was bringing 2 vegetarians, no attempt was made to produce anything but was on the menu. This consisted of one main risotto dish and although I'm not a vegetarian, I know that this and pasta seem the only choice of uninspired chefs. It was particularly unwelcome as my guests were just back from Italy. There were a couple of meatless appetisers (or those that could be made meatless) but again not very inspiring. There was also a lot of noise coming from the bar, which made conversation difficult at times. This was also not helped by the initially loud background music (softened when we asked). Why do restaurants persist in thinking that dinners don't want to make conversation?"

  • "Kensington Place used to be a regular favourite but it went off the pace a little and this was the first time back under the new regime. KP is back to its best - good food in a rally buzzy atmosphere with attentive service even though the restaurant was full."
    dined on 31/05/2014
  • "Caught up with a friend after work for dinner here. I've been meaning to come for the last three years of living nearby. The staff were very pleasant and attentive. The atmosphere was super relaxed. I love the fishy water jugs!! The food was great - oysters and a mixed smoked fish platter for starters. I had grilled monk fish for mains, that was excellent if not a little salty (but not a criticism I just loathe salt so I suspect it would be perfect for just about anyone else). My friend had the battered fish and chips and loved it. Wine by the glass (we were being good) was excellent. Dessert of chocolate mousse, milk ice cream and some peanutty crunchy stuff was really divine. Thumbs up from me & extra points for smiley staff."

  • "We had a good dinner last Saturday night, good variety of dishes. We all enjoyed our meal, i opted for the steak and chips, it was lovely and my companions liked their meal as well. I have been several times to Kensington Place and it never fails, I would gladly have a meal again in this very pleasant restaurant"
    dined on 24/05/2014
  • "Excellent food and service. Very enjoyable smart but informal dining. We were a table of two but it looked a fun place to have larger gathering too."
    dined on 23/05/2014
  • "We eat here quite a lot and it never fails to be anything but a wonderful experience, very friendly staff, great ambience and wonderful food. One day I will order something other than the fish and chips! Best ever"
    dined on 22/05/2014
  • "Thoroughly enjoyed the lunch. We did the £25 lunch which includes a glass of fizz. Reasonable choice on the lunch menu, well prepared and delicious. Excellent service but as so often be prepared for a 121/2% "optional" service charge."
    dined on 21/05/2014
  • "I had an excellent lunch this past Friday at KP. Main course cod was as fresh as could be and the chicken and leek terrine was great. Sat by the window and found the daytime ambiance very appealing. Service was quite good. I had fixed price lunch and thought it was well priced. Some of the a la carte items seemed a bit expensive. "
    dined on 16/05/2014
  • "Relaxed and friendly with tasty high quality food. The noise level is much better than before, but still high with a full restaurant."
    dined on 07/05/2014
  • "Rather unprepossessing exterior but light, modern and stylish inside. Welcoming front of house, comfortable chairs and attentive table service. Set lunch menu well chosen and glass of prosecco a nice touch. Generous portion of smoked salmon starter, and suckling pig main was excellent. Wine list sensible. Highly recommended."
    dined on 07/05/2014
  • "Revisited with friends. We all tried the Top Table set menu and found it as an excellent value for money. Smoked salmon was tasty and voluminous."
    dined on 03/05/2014
  • "Ever better than the last visit, this restaurant goes from strength to strength. "
    dined on 29/04/2014
  • "Friendly waiters, good food all reasonably price (especially the open table set menu)"
    dined on 26/04/2014
  • "We had Sunday lunch and the restaurant was very busy. The lunch menu is great value, a la carte slightly more expensive but better choices. Service attentive but not rushed!"
    dined on 20/04/2014
  • "Our tenth visit to Kensington Place in the past year or so. The 2 course deal plus a glass of prosecco for £20 is really excellent value and the standard of cooking was as usual very good. Service was attentive and friendly. Only criticism is the set menu is not changed often enough"
    dined on 19/04/2014
  • "Although Kensington Place has been in the same place for over 20 years, it is always refreshing itself with a bright modern interior and British/ International menu. It was nice to be in a restaurant with plenty of space around the tables as far to many places try to cram in as many customers as possible. "
    dined on 17/04/2014
  • "We ate here on a Thursday night and found that although the food was good, the service was quite bad. We sat with no water and no menus for 5 minutes before someone first came to us and when the staff did come it wasn't the best. Across various waiters and waitresses they all said the words words ("Enjoy your meal"), but generally in passing and with no interest in any potential response. For example, after delivering a dish a waitress would swing by and without stopping nor waiting for a response mutter "How is your meal?", not caring or displaying any interest if she may have forgotten anything. All in all we would not go back."
    dined on 17/04/2014
  • "We enjoyed our Proseco dinner. We visit this restaurant often and were never dissapointed."
    dined on 17/04/2014
  • "I love this restaurant and always go there when I am looking to have excellent fish. Not only is the produce carefully sourced, local, and brilliantly fresh (most of it was fished in cornwall over night), but it is also very nicely prepared, in an un-pretentious yet careful way. I love the grilled fish menu, where you can either chose a simple mackerel or a generous slice of turbot, both perfectly cooked, with some green vegetable sides, or roast potatoes if you prefer. Finally, the waiters are very friendly and extremely helpful with children. We were there for lunch with our 1 year old son, who had a great time."
    dined on 12/04/2014
  • "The food was so good! I really recommend you to try it."
    dined on 10/04/2014
  • "A lovely afternoon spent for a colleague's leaving lunch. Great food in a lovely space. Would recommend and come back to Kensington Place."
    dined on 02/04/2014
  • "I found the dishes plain and not very imaginative. Servings sizes were quite small. The main meal I had which was grilled monkfish only had a piece if fish on the plate with a a sauce and the plate looked a bare. On top of that the fish didn't taste that great. I had a fairly expensive glass of Shiraz that tasted a bit old/off. The waitress didn't take one of our orders and I had to remind them. In summary I was expecting a top class restaurant based on previous reviews and the area and in reality it was just ordinary."
    dined on 01/04/2014
  • "I'd been once before to Kensington Place (a couple of years ago) and considered it to be fine but nothing more. I'm pleased to say that this time around things were much better. The set menu - £20 for two courses and a glass of prosecco - was excellent value for money, and the risotto and creme brûlée I had were both very tasty. Portions were also on the generous side. Great food, great value and great service - I'll definitely be back!"
    dined on 01/04/2014
  • "I took my parents there on the £19.95 special offer for 2-courses and a glass of prosecco. The options on the set menu were good - I particularly enjoyed the poached pear salad starter. The mains didn't come with many accompaniments so you really need to order sides as well. There were quite a few diners for a Monday night and it seemed to appeal to an older crowd. The service was very good."
    dined on 31/03/2014
  • "Great ambience, excellent service and delicious food - the set menu offered a good choice of 5 dishes on each course - the wine list as ever is over priced but a good selection was available with the option on several wines of ordering a 500ml carafe. They also accepted my Top Table dining cheque at payment with no fuss at all. I will be returning......"
    dined on 29/03/2014
  • "Great fish and a varied menu. The set meal was very good value."
    dined on 27/03/2014
  • "Very enjoyable experience overall. All to a good standard. Service very good with very welcoming staff who, whilst rushed off their feet, were extremely pleasant. As it was so busy with lots of families with lively children it did feel a bit 'school canteen' when we first arrived and all a bit frantic. £90 for 2 people for 2 courses seemed excessive and the 12.5% 'discretionary service' a bit of a mickey take. The fact that this seems to have become acceptable is disappointing. That said the pleasantness of the staff and the overall quality of the food meant we enjoyed the meal nevertheless. However, the price would make us think again before hurrying back."
    dined on 23/03/2014
  • "We went there for a quick bite on the top table and food was good as was the service."
    dined on 22/03/2014
  • "Good restaurant, well located, and busy. Food was very good and staff were very friendly. "
    dined on 21/03/2014
  • "A place where you fill free as the atmosphere is friendly, the long window inspires freedom, the food speaks about seas. More freedom than this would be possible only in the Mediterranean. As far as food I should say is fresh and the fish cooked to the right point, something not very common in some restaurants where the fish is overcooked. Very friendly and professional service."
