Diner Reviews
  • "The food is good and it's a good option in the area."

  • "A cocktail, main course and dessert..15 pounds yku can't go wrong and the food was yummy. Rec the lamb burger and oreo cookie cheesecake mmm."

  • "Must have walked past this restaurant many times and never ventured in. Very pleased I did. Pleasant staff. Great food. Only downside is that we sat beside the open doors and the noise from Kentish Town Road was pretty intrusive."

  • "We really enjoyed the meal but the service was a bit slow even though the restaurant wasn't full. We had to wait a long time for drinks and then between courses there was a long wait for the desert menu - so a 2 course meal took us over 2 hours! It was lovely food though and we didn't have anywhere to rush off to, but wouldn't be so great if you were trying to get a quick meal before an event!"

  • "More or less indifferent experience. Food was only worth it because of 50% taste card discount, definitely wouldn't pay full price. Waitress seemed to take an instant dislike to me and made no attempt to hide it, though the manager was nice. Many other better options around"

  • "I finally made it to the Canteen after living in Kentish Town for nearly a year. It has a great ambience and we were greeted with friendly service who was quite quick to take our drink order. Unfortunately it took nearly 20 minutes to be asked for our food order and our attempts to get someone's attention were ignored/overlooked. Luckily they were relatively attentive afterwards and the food was quality but it was quite frustrating. I'm hoping that this was a glitch!"

  • "Our favourite local restaurant yet again served fab food."

  • "A good restaurant serving modern English cuisine at competitive prices. Very generous digestif! But nearly empty on the Saturday night we were there. Deserves to be full and buzzing."

  • "It's always good to find a place that caters for food allergies and intolerances. The staff seemed very knowledgeable and helpful with this."

  • "Kentish Canteen is a short walk from Kentish Town Tube Station. Families, groups and individuals will all get a very nice reception. The food is well presented and tastes good. Al the staff have huge smiles on their faces ... that attitude makes everyone feel welcome."

  • "Good location, very close to Kentish Town station and, although the menu is a little pricy, the restaurant accepts various gourmet club cards and does many offers of it's own, making it excellent value if you pick the right time to go. And the food is simple but delicious- a great find."

  • "We love Kentish Canteen....the food is superb - a small but perfect menu, absolutely wonderful staff. lovely surroundings. The guests we took on Saturday to celebrate a big birthday said they couldn't believe we were in Kentish Town or even in London...it feels so European."
    dined on 12/04/2014
  • "Its just down the road from where we work, and thought we would make a booking to take advantage of the 50% discount on Mondays. I read some reviews from another site, and they are wrong, Kentish Canteen have the most friendly and attentive staff. The food was excellent and well presented."

  • "tasty brunch GREAT coffee, only slight let down on my part is they used flaked salmon not smoked salmon for eggs royale which some may like but I found a bit too fishy, apart from that fantastic."

  • "We went here for my colleague's leaving lunch and it was fantastic. Lots to choose from on the lunch menu and very tasty."

  • "Went for a client lunch. The food was delicious, the service immaculate and I have been dreaming of the gnocci ever since! "

  • "Booked this for 15 people for a Saturday brunch. They called up to check numbers on the morning and accommodated an additional 5 people without any fuss. The waiter was really patient as the group arrived at disjointed times and we were treated with excellent and attentive service. Would not hesitate to recommend. Thanks Kentish Canteen!"

  • "Our waiter was lovely - very friendly and keen to help (gave surprisingly honest opinions about certain dishes on the menu, unprompted!). However, whilst the food wasn't amazing, if you go on a Monday and book in advance it is 50% off all food, so a meal for 3 people, with a starter board to share, three main courses and a pudding to share was £33 - absurdly good value! I would not say that the quality of the food is worth going at another time, as the food would be overpriced for what it is, but certainly worth going on a Monday!"

  • "Great food, shame a lot of food from the menu what we wanted they had run out of...and table was booked from 8."
    dined on 07/02/2014
  • "Great meal for a group of friends. Booked a table for 6, and the staff at Kentish Town Kanteen were very accomodating when it expanded to 10 people at the last minute. Lovely good, great cocktails and reasonably priced."
    dined on 07/02/2014
  • "Good value for Monday's. Maybe a bit too expensive when full price. The cook can cook - for sure! Will go again, but only Monday's."
    dined on 27/01/2014
  • "Everything's great at Kentish Canteen - brilliant menu - perfect choices to suit every taste, such lovely staff, beautifully designed restaurant, excellent location. Our favourite place to eat in Kentish Town"

  • "A very conveniently located and friendly place, with excellent service. The food is good and is good value when paired with a Tastecard or when 50% off is being offered (every Monday). In the absence of these offers, I would say the price is a little toppy."

  • "We needed a restaurant for a big party (14) on New Years Eve and Kentish Canteen provided a first class experience. People were never short of a drink, the food was good and the staff were friendly (not an easy feat on a busy NY). A fantastic start to a fantastic evening. Highly recommended."

  • "Easily the best place to grab some food before going to a gig at the Forum! If I lived in Kentish town I would definitely be a regular here. Staff are good, food top notch and always a buzzing atmosphere."
    dined on 20/12/2013
  • "Nice relaxed atmosphere and friendly staff. Always an easy restaurant to go with a mixed group as there are meat/veg options, some lighter and some fit for large appetites. I would say the brunch/lunch is better value- most dinner options are quite pricey. I went with one girlfriend for dinner and as we were both not particularly hungry, just a starter each + the 3 for £10 side options was perfect."
    dined on 15/12/2013
  • "Served with un-cooked fish(genuinely quite shockingly so) and raw potatoes so sent back to the kitchen. Apology was forthcoming but a discount was not. Pretty disappointed all in all."
    dined on 07/12/2013
  • "Yet another delicious meal in lovely surrounding served by great staff"
    dined on 02/12/2013
  • "Eats before a gig at the Forum. First time visit and pleasantly surprised. Well - balanced menu excellently executed. Most had the burger which was very good; I had the onglet which was excellent. Meantime lager on tap was a bonus as was the friendly service"

  • "Took my daughter and granddaughter for lunch to the Canteen last week. Booked in advance and indicated we were bringing a baby. We had a nice table in the window. The baby woke up in her buggy and the staff brought over a seat which fits over the normal seating - no huge high chair in everyone's way. We both had a burger and they were cooked as we wanted (medium & well-done) with a good selection of salad and chips. The House wine was fine. The service was excellent and very friendly. The place was busy but not full, so it's probably worth booking to be on the safe side - I've been in there when it was packed. Very good value - definitely will be going back."
    dined on 28/11/2013
  • "I've been here before, and it's a great restaurant for a relaxed dinner with some interesting dishes. They seem to serve a lot of burgers but I'd recommend the fish! To start my friend had the mini squid, very good, and I the goats cheeses with lentils (lovely, although a little large for a starter). We followed this with sea bass in a bag, and I had sea bream, both of which were extremely tasty, cooked just right and full of flavour. Staff were friendly and efficient although our waitress was unable to answer our query about one of the cocktails."
    dined on 20/11/2013
  • "Probably the best steak I've had in ages. Good ingredients, well cooked and we'll presented. Not cheap but not outrageous either. All dishes we had, and all the ones we saw go out looked great. Smallish selection but all done well. Booking was easy (although we were eating early - pre-gig). Lovely staff, very friendly. A really impressive local restaurant and smart too. The cocktail bar downstairs is fantastic too! I would travel to eat there though I don't live in the area."

  • "Had a simply lovely experience here the other night with my girlfriend. We were shown to a table close to the window but were moved without fuss when it proved to be a bit drafty. The menu and ambiance are spot-on - perfectly pitched between homely and classy to provide a lovely atmosphere for early evening food and drinks. Or in our case both. The downstairs bar Shebeen provided stunning cocktails which we ordered as an aperitif whilst we awaited our burgers. When they arrived, they were pink, juicy and perfectly tasty without being at all fatty. The fact they came with a free glass of house wine made it all the sweeter. My gorgeous, tiny but ravenous partner also devoured an enormous bread and butter pudding. A perfect evening."

  • "A little meh... the food was average. I asked for my burger to be medium-rare, it came back more rare. Chips are served in dishes that remind me of old school dishes they used in hospital, in surgery... service was dire. We waited a fair while to even order a drink, then longer to order the food. We would have had pudding however 25mins after our plates were cleared there was no sign of any staff so we just asked for the bill, which took long enough and left. The food is average, nothing to right home about. This place is fine for a quick bite to eat but not really a place to be excited about. Shame as the location is great."

  • "We went prior to a show at the Forum. It has a great location just along from the Tube station on the way to the Forum. The proprietress was obviously aware of this as she asked the various diners if they were going to the Forum. The venue was very popular and if she knew who was going to the Forum she knew which tables would be freed up quickly and could advise late arrivals to have a drink at the bar and wait for a short time. We took the £11 option which was a main and a drink which we thought was excellent value.I went for the burger and my daughter chose the chorizo. We were both satisfied. There was a nice buzz about the place and we'll be back next time we're off to the Forum."
    dined on 19/11/2013
  • "good service, meal served quickly, vegetarian option of ravioli was really tasty. Fish and chips good fish a little overcooked. Overall enjoyed the meal, but not a 'wow' meal."
    dined on 16/11/2013
  • "For many years it was difficult finding a decent meal, at a good price, before gigs at The Forum. Kentish Canteen now fills that gap. Nothing fancy, but an imaginative menu, in the bistro / brasserie style, in comfortable surroundings. I recommend the chorizo sausages, from their 'main course & a drink for £11' menu."
    dined on 06/11/2013
  • "stressed staff, tiny portions, over priced, will not be going again"

  • "The food at Kentish Canteen is very tasty and although the menu is concise, it's still difficult to choose. However, it's the service that makes eating here such a pleasure. The waiter bore our indecisiveness with wit and let my dad charge his phone at the counter. When I came in to amend my booking, the waitress from my previous date night remembered me. It was a lovely meal."
