Diner Reviews
  • "Friendly welcoming staff. We were shown to table by an open window which was ok as it was a hot day but the table was covered in dust which had blown in from the outside. When I pointed this out the staff quickly cleaned the table and the others nearby. We had a nice leasurely meal prior to going to the theatre."

  • "The whole experience was lovely. At the time was eating with friends but would just be suited for a romantic meal with a partner. The ambiance and little touches such as the decor all contributed to the overall experience. Would defiantly recommend (and have already done so)."

  • "The starters was mediocre, the mains was horrible. My gf ordered the Stone Bass and I order the Pork Belly, both was fried to a crisp and very dry. Pork, is already quite dry if over cooked, but this was so dry i struggled to wash down bites even with water. I returned it in the end, would not recommend this to anyone"

  • "Always a lovely place to dine. A place where one can chat without noise and chaos. A gem in the heart of Soho."

  • "My husband and I came here prior to seeing a show. The venue is lovely and the staff were friendly and helpful. We were able to check in our shopping bags and our meal was lovely. We didn't feel rushed and we had plenty of time to get to our show afterwards. I would definitely recommend this restaurant."

  • "Dined her pre theatre, went for the a la carte menu. Set menu very limited, Nicely presented tasty food. Would recommend for dinner, not for a special occasion though."

  • "We had lunch at Kettners before seeing a show and picked it mostly for its location close to the theatre. The food was nice and our waiter was very friendly and helpful when it came to questions about the food. The only issue was the lack of atmosphere - the large room sounded busy and buzzing, but we were sat in the room just before it which was deserted except for one other table, so it was very quiet."

  • "We went for a pre-theatre meal and loved every second - the food was superb, the venue is gorgeous, the location is great and service was excellent."

  • "This is the 3rd time we have eaten here and we ate late afternoon (4.30). the evening menu was to start at 5pm but the waiter convinced it was almost the same menu but it wasn't. If we had waited half an hour it would have been better. I think he just wanted us to be served an out of the way which was the only disappointment. Otherwise, good food at a reasonable price. Next time will be better again, hopefully."

  • "Really nice dinner at kettners - I had thought the menu looked a bit unadventurous but all really well cooked and very nice space to eat in. Would recommend."

  • "Location is great, but this place is living on reputation and hoping that by applying enough booze to the customers they won't notice how bad the food is! We ordered 4 dishes- 1 starter and 1 main course were sent back - inedible. Uninspired, insipid, badly cooked - the chef should be embarrassed. Felt like the DeLorean had gone back to 1988 - the world has moved on - Kettners hasn't."

  • "Met up with friends in the lovely surroundings of kettners, the menu has changed over the years I understand that but this was the worse meal I've had there ever! Whole plaice that was so small and bony it had no meat on it at all. I had the potted salmon, it was served within 60 seconds of order! Too salty and not very good specially as it's been prepared and had formed a skin on top. So 2 courses and I was still hungry. The Eton mess OK £5 extra and cappuccino was OK. Bill came to £35 per head without additional drinks just the glass of bikinis."

  • "My mum and I thoroughly enjoyed our pre theatre supper on the evening of May 23rd and both thought the food, service and ambience was excellent. Unfortunately, my mum experienced a fainting fit which would have been more distressing if not for the actions of the efficient, caring waiters who came to her assistance. They sought medical advice, applied first aid and ensured she was well recovered before booking a taxi for us. Although we were disappointed not to have been able to enjoy our dining experience more fully and missed the show, we were very impressed by the calm professionalism and kindness shown to us by your staff. Many thanks."

  • "Kettners is an oasis of calm in the bustling Soho scene. The menu choices were many and varied and not a boring option to be seen. I thoroughly enjoyed the evening."

  • "Had a great meal with friends to celebratey mum's birthday. Fabulous waiter."

  • "There was some confusion over the terms of booking. I had understood the offer was two courses for £25but they said it was three courses + cocktail for that price but from a lighter menu. The difference between the offer as I understood it and the full price charged off the menu they gave me was only about £5 so in the end I paid the full bill but the experience was unpleasant and I'm left with the feeling that they didn't stand by what was originally offered. I particularly told them I'd come for the open table offer, both when I booked and when I arrived and in those circumstances if the offer was off a different menu I should have been shown it. I've rated the restaurant without reference to this misunderstanding and found it average."

  • "One of my favourite restaurants, starting with a drink in the gorgeous champagne bar and then a delicious meal in the lovely restaurant which always serves tasty food , with professional but friendly service. The decor is a delight."

  • "the restaurant has got superb ambience, but the quality of food is only OK. and also, it's not worthwhile to pay 20 quid for the cabaret show."

  • "I've been meaning to eat here for a while so when I saw the offer it was a great opportunity to try it out. Pianist was playing whilst we ate. Service was great. A few big groups so the volume was loud but it was a great deal with lovely food. The chocolate pot left us all wanting more. Will definitely be back to one of their speciality evenings or to try the a la carte menu."

  • "Six friends had lunch from the Summer menu offer (£20 for two courses and a Bellini) We asked for and were given a circular table. The courses were plentiful which is not usually the case with a limited set menu so two courses were enough. There was a choice of Bellini normally selling at £9. At 1.30 it was very noisy but quiet ended down later. We were not hurried and stayed over two hours. The ladies toilet was fine unlike the negative review posted earlier this week for the Men's room. All in all a good experience."

  • "My friends & I have been to Kettner's for dinner a few times now and we have always very much enjoyed yet. However, on this occasion it was very disappointing. The food wasn't that great & the portion sizes seem to have shrunk a fair bit which makes it a very expensive place to eat when you leave still feeling hungry. I don't think we will be going back any time soon."

  • "Lovely meal and excellent service just round the corner from the Prince Edward Theatre"
    dined on 18/06/2014
  • "I'm very fond of Kettners and have previously been impressed with the quality of the set price pre-theatre meal but on this occasion the food was of an extremely poor standard. The salmon and crayfish pate was completely unseasoned salmon covered in a layer of butter with no crayfish to be found - not what I expected at all! The main course was no better. A real shame as the experience has put me off another visit....."

  • "I took two companions to dinner for the first time at Kettners last Saturday and met them in the back room of the bar - a thoroughly dingy place and not the quality I had anticipated. The dining room was better but the whole place is definitely in need of a refurbishment. At present it's more two star than five star. The food and service were very good, but let down by the decor. After the meal I went upstairs to the Gents, walked through the door, then realised the liquid all over my shoes from the huge puddle on the floor was urine from a blocked urinal. A nice end to the evening! I wouldn't go again unless they do a complete refurb. I'm sticking to five star hotels from now on."

  • "Burger was tough and definitely not worth £15, particularly with all the fantastic burger places in Soho/covent garden now. Desserts were delicious. Service was great, very attentive."

  • "Went for lunch prior to theatre. Summer menu not available at lunch. The sommelier did not know the brand of mineral water when asked (useful before deciding whether to stick with tap water) and generally the service was lackadaisical with the waiters (of whom there were many) preferring to engage in conversation around the waiters' station rather than work the floor. Situation not helped by a duty manager who seemed content just to walk the floor looking macho (how passé is designer stubble?) and chat-up the waitresses. The décor is tired and reminded me of the New Connaught Rooms or the Café Royal before its renovation. On the positive side the food was really good and the wine list had a hint of ambition."

  • "We were there for Saturday lunch had booked a table at 3pm Arrived early to have a few cocktails celebrating my wife's birthday . The bar service was brilliant as was the restaurent service until it came 5pm . When we made the booking we were not given a duration limit for lunch . At 5pm a very rude manager came over an said need table in 5 mins but just took our wine there and then an moved us to the bar where he said a table had been reserved , which it hadn't . He then asked 2 ladies to move rudely aswell , which they also complained about . Basically ruined a great time Recommend going there but don't speak to the management rude and have no clue"

  • "Kettners is a fail safe for somewhere that has nice surroundings with great cocktails, friendly but proffesional staff and wonderful food. Sometimes is bustling/a little noisy so if you want a more peaceful setting, ask for a corner table."
    dined on 14/06/2014
  • "Inside the restaurant was beautiful and the grand piano playing was a nice touch. I though the food was average, nothing spectacular. We had the set menus, it looked good and tasted fine, just expected it to be more special given the location. Service was odd, only one server was good, the rest seemed like an inconvenience when I asked for anything. That included the two hugely inefficient door girls that looked down at everyone and was rude to my friend."
    dined on 12/06/2014
  • "Great value offers through top table at Kettner's. The three options on the menu were varied and plenty to be able to chose from. The staff are still very attentive despite being on the cheaper menu. Super bar to dip into if you get their early."

  • "We have been to Kettners before and we keep coming back. The food as always was very good and I would always recommend the duck. The staff are always attentive without bothering you. It was a very warm evening but was comfortable in the restaurant. Thoroughly recommend it."

  • "My friends and I had a fantastic evening at Kettner's before our show at the Palace Theatre. I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a special place to eat or have afternoon tea. Live music was a delight."

  • "decided to book a table after seeing Miss Saigon afternoon performance (just round the corner) we arrived approx 30mins before our booking to try out the champagne bar, however our table was ready so decided to have the champagne at the table, the service was excellent and very attentative, the food was lovely also the cocktails, we arrived at a quietish time but it started filling up quickly with theatre goers (do not arrive late if you are pre theatre the table next to us were waiting for the rest of their party who were delayed by 20 mins and they only had time for a main service was a little slow for them) would go again may be a little overpriced but we enjoyed it"

  • "My husband & I went for dinner before visiting the Palace Theatre. We had planned to choose of the Pre-Theatre Set Menu but ended up going for 2 courses off the A la Carte menu. Both courses were lovely and the staff were attentive. The decor was lovely and it added to a perfect night."

  • "I have been to Kettners a few times in the last year and have never been disappointed. We had the fixed £20/25 menu that was very satisfactory. The Butternut squash penne was delicious! Staff were attentive and helpful."

  • "Having visited Kettners a number of time previously, as usual this visit did not disappoint. Three generations of my family enjoyed a post theatre meal and the food, service and atmosphere was lovely. I would highly recommend this restaurant and cannot wait to visit again."
