Plenty of room due to it being just about empty on this Monday lunchtime. Staff friendly enough. Decor a bit tired. Toilets clean but tatty. Food ok but nothing to write home about, same with the wine. Pricey for this standard of fare. All in all, I'd use it for a business lunch as it's quiet and convenient, but it needs to up its game.

6 girls off to see Miss Saigon at the Prince Edward in search of a welcoming place to eat prior to the show. Kettners, I'd been to a couple of times before and suggested we go as it was a matter of yards away. Initially I thought it would be too expensive but the pre-theatre menu was within our budget plus a bottle of red wine. Well, it was lovely, the historic and characterful rooms have a sense of casual occassion, the 1930s tunes playing make you feel you are in an old black and white Fred and Ginger movie, the braces on the waiters add a touch of this too. We were all delighted with our meals, none of us experienced food envy but admired the others plate. As our meal progressed a pianist began to play and he was fantastic, obviously enjoying the environment as much as the diners.

My wife and I came here on a Tuesday evening for our anniversary and were very impressed with the food, the ambience and especially the service. The waiter was always close by and served us very well all evening, He gave us good advice on the wine and went to see when the jazz event in the bar was due to finish when I enquired about it. With a Tastecard, a 3 course meal for 2 only came to £60 including drinks and service charge. Even without the card it would only have been just over a £100, which is still good value for such fine dining. For my main course I ordered their signature dish, beef bourguignon. The meat was very tender and the sauce full of flavour. My wife ordered coq-au-vin and they served her more than enough chicken. Again, the sauce was very good. The ambience was what you would expect of a high class restaurant, with pleasant background music from a beautiful white piano. We were in the smaller of the 2 main dining rooms and it almost had a feel of private dining about it. We would certainly come back here again.

Some of the best European cuisine I've had in the capital. The beef bourguignon is exceptional and was cooked perfectly. The wine list is concise but well put together and the charges are certainly reasonable for the quality on offer. I would highly recommend Kettner's and will be dining there again as soon as possible.

Went with girlfriends for early lunch before theatre. We had two courses and two bottles of wine which came to £36 each. Not bad as food and ambience was really lovely. Would have loved champers but started at £70 so we gave it a miss but that's really what it's known for. Would def recommend.

We were sat at a very small drafty table where they insisted on taking the wine away, 3 times during the course of the meal we were sat with empty glasses for more tan 5 mins and had to keep asking for more, on the last occasion having to wave a cross the room to get attention after waiting nearly 10 mins. The food was nice but very expensive given the service and overall experience. I have just cancelled a table for 8 I had also booked for next week and off to Langans instead.

Arrived at 17:30 (4 in our group). The restaurant was not busy. We Ordered 4 starters and 4 mains. The starters arrived promptly. we then had to wait 40 mins for the 4 mains. One of the dishes was cold which we sent back to the kitchen, two of the remaining mains were only just warm and cold by the time they had been eaten. When we informed staff that we would not be paying the service charge due to the cold food and long service a staff member tried to smooth things over with the offer of "free deserts" which we did not accept, by that time we just wanted to get out of the place! This was our first and will be out last visit to Kettners!

I visit London regularly and always go to Kettner's. I rated the experience this time lower than I normally would, but the service was a bit slow and the entree (chicken) was a bit dry. Being a Kettner's fan this won't deter me from returning, but had this been my first visit I don't know that this would have been the best first impression.

We met friends for a mid week lunch and were welcomed by a friendly receptionist who was expecting us, then shown through to the bar, where the barman was friendly and helpful. Our table was comfortable, the service was just right, the food was excellent and met our varied tastes and catered for a good veggie option. The Rioja was excellent. Overall a very pleasant and enjoyable experience. We would certainly come back. Thank you.

I used to come to Kettners a lot and thought I would give it another try. The place is still beautifull. The food was great for the price point and the atmosphere as expected. However, it was let down by the service. There were plenty of staff and all were friendly. But they were so disorganised. They did not take our drink order until 20 minutes after taking the food order. They did not bring bread until long after the starters had arrived, desert wine arrived after we had finished desert. Our waitress seemed to go off shift half way through the service and no one was tlookIng After us through most of the meal.

All in all, the meal was lovely, the lamb shank was outstanding. perfectly pink in the middle and accompanied with lovely sides. the wine was exceptional as well as a standard i tend to not to go low on the wine list but the cheaper options were lovely. the only two disappointment were that the bar closed at around 11 which was a little early for us and the electronic payment went down so we had to sort out the bill at the front desk which was a pain. that couldn't be helped so don't hold it against them but it was a great experience

We booked to have a pre-theatre meal here as we were off to Miss Saigon. The location is perfect as it's a short walk from a number of theatres in the area. The set menu had a good choice and the food was tasty also reasonably priced considering the quality and location. The staff were very attentive given they knew we had theatre tickets and needed to get out by a certain time (on some occasions maybe event a bit too hasty). Overall was a lovely meal and perfect for what we needed, however I would say the interiors are looking tired and could do with a paint job.

Hi I have visited the restaurant several times in the past - usually in the evening. Saturday was very disappointing. We has a table for 12:00 noon for brunch, waited 20 mins and had to ask to have our order taken, the 2 streak sandwiches were chewy, my veg wellington although lovely to look at and taste was virtually cold as was my friends Fishcakes. Typical - when you want to recommend a place to someone and then take them there and be let down :(

The setting is exceptional, and the service meticulous and friendly. The food itself is very good, though not of outstanding value, and the overall experience is really worth a try, particularly if you find yourself in the are before or after a West end show. Beware that the pre-theatre menu ends at 6.30pm: a quarter of an hour too early if you ask me. A plus: an extensive wine and champagne list, and a great champagne bar with live music once a week and a Cocktail of the week for less than 7pounds! Miss it at your own risk...

A cocktail and free pudding was given, including an apology..so apart from that, it was great!
