Diner Reviews
  • "The staff were rude, un-apolegetic and thought that they were too good to be working in a restuarant. They need to buck there ideas up"
    dined on 26/07/2014
  • "The positives: the flavour and texture of the dishes was quite nice, but nothing mind blowing... The negatives: portion sizes were incredibly mean for the price, the ambience was dreadful - I have been to chain restaurants with better ambience, I know they are trying to go for a "pub feel" but it missed every mark, there was even gum stuck under our table. Music was dated and insufferably loud, I couldn't hear my dinner guest but could hear the table next door far too well as they screeched at each other. The service seemed friendly enough, when you could flag someone down - we ate early, so it was not busy but there was a lot of hanging around and chatting, ignoring customers - which made the rather steep service charge hard to swallow."

  • "Food is good here, no doubt about it. but i don't quite understand the positioning of this restaurant. is it cool? not really. is it posh? not at all (the printing materials of restaurant, from menu to flyers to posters is really of bad quality, for the money they are charging for the food, they can do better.) the front of house staff dressed in a strange casual but not exactly hip way, again sends me a confused message. what should i expect from this place? the service is slow, there are only one staff member in our area who are allowed to take orders from customers, making things go slow. i'm left confused and don't really know whether i should recommend it to anyone, if so, for what occasion? confused."

  • "Restaurant was relaxed and buzzy - nice atmosphere. The menu choices are really good and the food was excellent. The staff were very friendly (nearly all Aussies!) but the service was a bit hit and miss. I think this was a fault in the kitchen. We were 2 people and we ordered different dishes, but they would just bring one and then there would be a long delay before the other person got their dish! For example, there was a 30 minute gap between the two desserts being served! The other issue is that the whole experience is pretty expensive!! But the food was so good, that we will go back and give them a second chance!"

  • "The menu is a total treat - you want to eat everything. Careful, the snack plates are very generous, so we over ordered. But I regret nothing! I loved the sashimi "pizza" and the scallops. Great beef as well."

  • "This is a great local gem to have in a quiet bayswater back stop. Portions tiny exquisite looking but soon filled up on so much protein heavy dishes, great for ladies who lunch. Whilst not quite as delicious as Roka, it's nearly there and the bearded Hoxton staff and atmosphere were fun!"

  • "We had a lovely dinner at Korubuta. The restaurant itself is fun and the food is delicious. Everything we had came out hot and perfectly cooked. It's perfect for groups, as there are loads of things to try. I can't wait to go back!"

  • "Excellent and unusual food done in a Japanese fusion tapas style."
    dined on 17/07/2014
  • "I went to Kurobuto for dinner with a friend. The restaurant seems to be very trendy at the moment and I was surprised to get a booking at fairly short notice. The waitress described the restaurant style as Japanese Tapas and suggested two to three dishes each. We decided to start with two each and I ordered one scallop dish and one salmon one, whilst my friend ordered tempura prawns and lamb. Everything was delicious and two each was enough for us, although a big eater would probably require more. My chief criticism of the restaurant is the noise level of the music, rather than just background it is actually too loud for decent conversation so not to be recommended for a romantic evening or evening a get-together chat."
    dined on 16/07/2014
  • "Loved some of the dishes, really interesting flavours & great line up of cocktails. I went in with massively high expectations though, so hard to live up to. Sashimi pizza not as exciting as I hoped, but all in all great food & very friendly staff & fun atmosphere."

  • "Ok so the ambience is fine, nothing spectacular, very trying to be in Brooklyn. The service is normal for a casual place, could be a bit more focused BUT the food come out hot and fast and it is absolutely delicious. Best things on the menu are the tuna sashimi pizza, the eggplant, the edamame, the fried shrimp with kimchi mayo and the chicken skewers. The sushi is good but nothing you haven't had elsewhere so don't bother. My boyfriend also liked the sweet potato fries. The pork buns are good but overpriced for what they are but the excellence of the previously mentioned dishes makes you forgive minor annoyances. Excited to try the location on King's Road next."

  • "Having been to their pop-up restaurant in Chelsea, we were looking forward to Kurobuta opening up closer to home. We were not disappointed. The Japanese-style food is simply delicious. Be sure not to miss the nasu dengaku and the tempura soft-shell crab. Our only gripe was that the music was too loud for our liking, making conversation an effort. Even so we'll be going back before too long."

  • "Had a great meal at Kurobata. Great selection of dishes, good service, good atmosphere. And the food was delicious."
    dined on 10/07/2014
  • "Very excited to go here - seated at one of their high tables which was nice. Beautiful cocktails and very friendly and informed waiter. Food comes out at different times which is fine but wasnt always consistent. For example, they brought out one order of pork buns (enough for half of our party) and didnt bring the other for another 15 minutes, we were left wondering if they had forgotten it. Additionally we had to wait 40 minutes after all our dishes had been brought out for the final dish - the sashimi pizza and were told the kitchen was backed up... but that was a raw dish?!? Overall our charming waiter saved us from complaining and the food was superb, but something to note for the future."

  • "The food at this venue is amazing. The chef knows how to master flavors and sauces for each dish. The variety of dishes is great and the tapas like experience was excellent, particularly to have a chance to taste the variety of flavors. The only disappointing part was the service, which was intermittent at best. Bottom line: Food was amazing but I'm not eager to go back due to the service, which is quite a shame."

  • "Fantastic food in a relaxed atmosphere Something for everyone and all tastes Will come again"
    dined on 09/07/2014
  • "Food was excellent as usual but the service was very poor unfortunately. I've been to Korubuta over 10 times now and I find Chelsea one so much better thank marble arch restaurant. In marble arch, they forgot part of our order and drinks. So we've got first 2 dishes and then we had to wait about half an hour then to remind them about it and find out that they completely forgot about it. It's a shame as the food is soooo good. Even though in Chelsea they'd so much smaller and busier venue, they manage to maintain a great level of service."

  • "After all the fanafare, can't say it was all that great. Service was mediocre, food unimpressive."
    dined on 05/07/2014
  • "Food was excellent. Great atmosphere. Our waitor was top notch but it looked like there was only one waiter for a big section so we had to keep on waiting for his attention. Its not a cheap meal but its worth it for the food"
    dined on 04/07/2014
  • "Great food! Everything we tried was delicious... But: this was nearly all spoilt by the very loud heavy metal hard rock coming out of a low quality sound system in a badly soundproofed space. A real pity!"
    dined on 02/07/2014
  • "The menu promised some inventive plates, mixing high/ low elements but it's just 'Dirty' Japanese. Nearly every dish arrived pooling oil on the plate and was over sweet, salty and fatty - Perfect booze food but not the culinary experience I was anticipating. It's a clever idea making an attempt to widen the Dirty Food phenomena but prices are too high. Go here only if you want a novelty 'dirty' food night."

  • "Finally scored a 7pm slot to eat at Kurobuta with my partner and it was definitely worth the wait. Great service, great food. We enjoyed it so much that we'll be taking my mum for her birthday this month. Can't wait to visit again, if only for the Tempura soft shell crab!"
    dined on 01/07/2014
  • "excellent food but the music is far too loud and very disturbing, and also wrongly chosen: music (feels like a pinkpop festival!) doesn't match the fine tasting of the food..."
    dined on 01/07/2014
  • "...But shame about the ridiculously loud rock music and service which was friendly but failed to deliver. We were really impressed by the food and drinks; the ribs, pork buns and carrot cake dessert were all amazing and our melon sake and breakfast cocktail were delicious. Would definitely return for those. Service definitely needs to be improved, both tables either side of us were offered our food and things seemed a little manic. Music needs to be reconsidered and turned down!"
    dined on 28/06/2014
  • "We had a wide selection from each section of the menu and we weren't disappointed. We had every recommendation from our very attentive restaurant guide/hostess and enjoyed each one. Stand out dishes included the yellow tail raw salad, beef tataki, pork belly buns, tempura (pumpkin and soft shell crab), aubergine, rice pot with fish roe... Basically everything including the sake! Meal was topped off with some beautifully artistic yet delicious desserts. Have already recommended to friends and family. Looking forward to going back again soon"
    dined on 27/06/2014
  • "Nothing wrong with the place but nothing particularly inspiring either. Dishes were prepared well, especially the BBQ pork ribs but the rest aren't anything you wouldn't have seen before."
    dined on 27/06/2014
  • "I love Kurobuta, this was the first time I ate at the Marble Arch location and I was surprised at the portion size. It feels much smaller than in the Kings Road location. Everything was delicious but it was hard to order because the menu font is absolutely impossible to read. Please change it!!!!"
    dined on 25/06/2014
  • "Food was great especially the sweet potato chips and the sticky Aubergine. Desserts were fab too with the creme brûlée being a highlight. But what stood out was the friendly warm service. We had to ask lots of questions about the food due to specific dietary requirements and our server was patient and helpful, going back and forth to the chef in order to answer our queries. This made the dining experience a very positive one and not one we always get in top class restaurants"
    dined on 21/06/2014
  • "Food was good but not remarkable. Too expensive for what it is! A 200ml coke is £4- notv even the size of a can of coke."
    dined on 21/06/2014
  • "Was recommended by a friend to try out this new place. Ambience is excellent, great service (most waitresses are from Oz!!), and great food. I highly recommended to try the beef tataki, the pork belly bun and the tuna sashimi pizza. The desert selection is very good too but there is a lack of selection of wine from other parts of the world. The location is easy to get to, I will give this restauarnt an overall 4 out of 5."
    dined on 21/06/2014
  • "Staff over charged for service and wine, in addition to having a very poor attitude to guests. Service is slow, which could be forgotten, but due to the poor attitude and overcharging, our evening ended very poorly. Chelsea staff are much nicer!"
    dined on 20/06/2014
  • "I would highly recommend this place.the food was great but I would suggest ordering 3 dishes per person not the 4 that is recommended. And make sure you order the lamb chops and the aubrgine."
    dined on 20/06/2014
  • "Outstanding food, great service... overate but enjoyed it. It does however burn a hole in your wallet!"
    dined on 19/06/2014
  • "This is definitely my favourite Japanese restaurant in London and the Marble Arch outpost is so much more comfortable and slick than its Chelsea counterpart. Everyone must try the pork buns and aubergine before they die - they are extraordinarily good!"
    dined on 18/06/2014
  • "Impressed with the food. Delicious taste and so light. We ordered 5 plates and one dessert for two people, we left feeling very satisfied and not stuffed. Would definitely come back."
    dined on 18/06/2014
  • "Don't understand the carping reviews about portion size or cost - these guys are doing something very skilled with truly interesting flavours and turning out great plates of food. If you think that comes cheap, it doesn't. It's not a 'traditional' Japanese tavern-style restaurant any more than the River Cafe is a cafe or Gramercy Tavern is a tavern, but to be fair they're serious about beer - a good and eclectic selection (anyone who freezes the top of your Kirin Ichiban is OK by me) but cocktails sounded a bit icky. The wine list is OK; sake is a big deal here with various no doubt excellent producers, but I can't see the appeal. Bill for four, with two alcoholic drinks and two soft, came to £112 - value, actually, for a memorable meal."
    dined on 15/06/2014
  • "Having been to the pop up shop in the Kings Road we decided to venture out and try Kurobuta in all its intended glory and it didn't disappoint. The intimacy of the smaller venue is not lost here but the larger space gives the atmosphere a real buzz. Staff are friendly and informative, guiding you into the right selection with gentle, enthusiastic recommendations. The food was incredible, as always. Kurobuta's success is a direct reflection of its owner. It is unpretentious and yet manages to be one of the most surprising gastronomical delights you will ever have the pleasure to experience and you will not stop telling all your friends to go and try it for themselves! I cannot recommend it enough."
    dined on 14/06/2014
  • "The food was absolutely outstanding--as were the drinks! Will definitely be coming again!"
    dined on 13/06/2014
  • "Very friendly staff offer excellent advise on many varied dishes. There recommendations were excellent as were the number of dishes too order. Food a touch pricey but eating tapas is always fun and sociable and so we would really recommend this restaurant for a group of friends"
    dined on 13/06/2014
  • "This is a really nice restaurant with some great food, but the slightly slow/haphazard service needs to improve. Some better value on the menu would be good too - the dishes are pretty pricey for the volume of food served. Great spot though and really nicely done out."
