A word from La Trompette
La Trompette is owned by Nigel Platts-Martin and Bruce Poole, the partnership behind Chez Bruce in Wandsworth and The Glasshouse in Kew. It therefore serves some of the best food in London but without the formality or prices associated with the capital's top end establishments. The comfortable and stylish dining room is a vibrant, busy and friendly place to be with service that is highly professional yet relaxed and informal.

From the outset La Trompette has been showered with accolades, a reflection of the love, care and energy that is invested in the restaurant by the dedicated team behind it. La Trompette was awarded a Michelin star in 2008.

I never usually write reviews but this time I felt I had to. I am a vegetarian and don't eat wheat - a challenge for any restaurant. La Trompette was superb in accommodating my dietary needs with ease and style; and produced some excellent food on very short notice (I had phoned ahead, but only on the day as we booked last minute). The service was superb; the food was extremely good. I would highly recommend it.

La Trompette is one of those restaurants where all you have to worry about is making the booking because the rest is so comfortingly fantastic! Everything from the smart & modern decor, the relaxed yet efficient service and great food makes for a reliably wonderful treat. The menu managed to offer dishes that seemed to suit everyone, but there was an interesting twist to everything, so nothing was boring. The dessert of creme fraiche tart with red and green gooseberries was delightful and the addition of lemon verbena ice cream was really new and special. I can't wait to return!

Most enjoyable. Friendly, but competent, service. Great food; the kind of menu I could have stuck pins into to choose without risking disappointment. Several of us had slow cooked lamb or beef dishes, which were very good indeed. Extensive wine list with interesting choices at the lower price end. Although we had a late seating at 2pm, there was no pressure whatsoever on getting us out of the restaurant. My wife has insisted that we go back. Soon.

I booked this restaurant based on opentable reviews, and I am very glad I did. Upon arrival, I was greeted with warm and welcoming hostess, and the service in general was very good. Really lovely, bright, modern, clean and romantic ambience, I liked the paintings very much. Food was also very good. The warm breads and butter were really delicious, while I thought grouse dish was a bit under seasoned, john dory was very good and apricot soufflé was outstanding. I was a bit disappointed to see that they didn't offer any canapés or petite fours since I received from almost every Michelin rated restaurants I visited in London, but in overall, the food was very good, and I would love to go back again soon.

Can't really complain ....re some of the recent tripadvisor negative reviews .....the set lunch is truly excellent value and we have been coming here for several years and consistently have good food and service......minor niggles would be the chairs are extremely hard with no cushion but some of our party sat on the sofa style bench seats which were fine ! Our guinea fowl was a little overdone and one of the deserts was served in a glass which proved very difficult to eat out of (hard ice cream in the base which was hard to extract!).......probably in our view the best value restaurant in SW London suburbia ....we will continue to return!

My girlfriend and I went to La Trompette on 6 August and had a lovely time. The food was excellent, really top drawer. The ambience was great, particularly for a romantic dinner. The only slight criticism was that the service was a bit slow to begin with, however things improved as the night went on and the staff were always friendly and helpful, particularly the somelier. Thanks for a great night, we will definitely be back.

It was my first time at la trompette with my wife. We love food and wanted to try this "michelin star" restaurant. From outside the place is inviting however inside is very noisy , waiters are constantly running around you by group of 2-3 . It somehow prevent you to relax and enjoy the moment in a michelin restaurant. The food was very well presented , well cooked and delicious. The service was good with caring staff but it is the general ambiance that let them down. A group having dinner in s private room were very noisy and it seem that there is no dress code ? Some customers stepped dressed as if they just came back from the park ... It kills the magic of a Michelin restaurant. For comparison the Gavroche has a superb ambiance.

I booked four of us here for my husband's birthday. The lunch time menu offered 6 or so options for each course, each option as inviting as the next. We all enjoyed three courses and our guests were stunned by the quality of the food, and how beautifully it was all put together. Delightful experience, cannot wait for the next instalment! They assumed our guest was my husband with the birthday as evidenced by the 'happy birthday' swirl on his plate in stead of my husband's, but it provided us with some laughs and mattered not one bit.

Overall it was a good meal and the food was more than satisfactory. Foie Gras, Roast Veal and Chocolate Pave were all enjoyable, especially the veal. There were a lot of waiting staff who seemed to be lacking direction, which affected service however. We have always thought that La Trompette's menus could offer a bit more choice than they do. This was the first time that we have been there on a Friday evening, when the restaurant was not full. It has doubled in size, but possibly there is not the clientele for this size of restaurant at this price range in Chiswick.

I took my friend Helene for a special birthday treat. It was her first time at La Trompette, I have been a few times and it was a very pleasant experience. I had booked for 12:30 so that we could choose well before 1:00 pm when everybody usually start arriving. I thought the choice was a bit restricted compared to the weekly lunch menus. The food was good, we both choose the Ayershire beef which was slow cooked and delicious. My only criticism would be the "fine tarte of yellow peaches" desert which I thought did not have enough fruit and was a bit too sweet for me.

For my birthday when booking had informed the restaurant that we often visit, of the occasion then phoned to request one of their window seats but on arrival was told it had been booked for a birthday. I told the lady who greeted us it was mine and she just laughed and we were seated behind the requested placing. Another couple turned up and were given that seat who were not celebrating. At the end of our meal a plate with 'happy birthday' and four truffles were placed in front of me by the greeter without comment so on the way out I just said to her, 'I told you it was my birthday' and she smiled sweetly. Having said all that, and slightly disappointed, it still remains one of our favourites.

The standard of food here is pretty solid for a 1 Michelin-starred restaurant. The food is more on the traditional cooking but the cooking is very good. The lunch offer is great as the menu is very similar to the dinner menu with only 1 or 2 choices taken off compared to the dinner menu, so you will expect the standard is the same while dining at a cheaper price.

Visited for the umpteenth time on Friday but unfortunately it wasn’t our best visit. The service certainly wasn’t up to its usual high standard, we waited ages for drinks, infact so long, we had eaten our bread by the time they came, not sure if they were training new staff but some of the waiters didn’t seem to know what they were doing, leaning across to pour water is just one example. I chose well, my foie gras, suckling pig and rhubarb soufflé were all great, however my companions were underwhelmed with their octopus and John Dory. We also had an issue with the wine, which was solved but it did take some time. We will return - as it is my husband’s favourite restaurant but hopefully they will iron out some of the glitches by then.

We were having a celebration and chose Lt as a very special place to eat and greet. The menu is not over sized and the food selection was marvelous. The service is discreet, excellent and very friendly but not over baring. Not once did they ask 'and how is the food sir' which drives me mad. They made us feel like friends returning and we had a wonderful meal and evening . The wine list had a great range of wines from I thought very reasonably priced but very drinkable wines up to the high priced specials. We chose a mid priced Cote de Rhone red which came chilled to just the right temperature to last the meal and which they offered to decant for us without being asked. All in all a lovely meal and we will certainly be going back.
