A word from La Trompette
La Trompette is owned by Nigel Platts-Martin and Bruce Poole, the partnership behind Chez Bruce in Wandsworth and The Glasshouse in Kew. It therefore serves some of the best food in London but without the formality or prices associated with the capital's top end establishments. The comfortable and stylish dining room is a vibrant, busy and friendly place to be with service that is highly professional yet relaxed and informal.

From the outset La Trompette has been showered with accolades, a reflection of the love, care and energy that is invested in the restaurant by the dedicated team behind it. La Trompette was awarded a Michelin star in 2008.

Diner Reviews
  • "The food was fantastic as usual and received great service. Will definitely go back and recommend for special occasions."

  • "...sat outside on the terrace. Scallop ceviche, squid, john dory and guinea fowl all good. Spectacular cheese. Not cheap but just about worth it."

  • "Overall it was a good meal and the food was more than satisfactory. Foie Gras, Roast Veal and Chocolate Pave were all enjoyable, especially the veal. There were a lot of waiting staff who seemed to be lacking direction, which affected service however. We have always thought that La Trompette's menus could offer a bit more choice than they do. This was the first time that we have been there on a Friday evening, when the restaurant was not full. It has doubled in size, but possibly there is not the clientele for this size of restaurant at this price range in Chiswick."

  • "delicious imaginative food in a delightful neighbourhood restaurant."

  • "I took my friend Helene for a special birthday treat. It was her first time at La Trompette, I have been a few times and it was a very pleasant experience. I had booked for 12:30 so that we could choose well before 1:00 pm when everybody usually start arriving. I thought the choice was a bit restricted compared to the weekly lunch menus. The food was good, we both choose the Ayershire beef which was slow cooked and delicious. My only criticism would be the "fine tarte of yellow peaches" desert which I thought did not have enough fruit and was a bit too sweet for me."

  • "Really beautiful restaurant, excellent food and outstanding service. Was made to feel welcome with a buggy despite it being not a typical "family-friendly" style restaurant."

  • "We went for a special occasion...excellent food...good service. ..perfect."

  • "I like their creative dish and taste are very good. I have not had any mistake about menu in the past and always enjoyed the meals."

  • "We took a friend for her 50th birthday. It was as expected. Food was excellent and the service was good. Would highly recommend it for such an occasion"

  • "For my birthday when booking had informed the restaurant that we often visit, of the occasion then phoned to request one of their window seats but on arrival was told it had been booked for a birthday. I told the lady who greeted us it was mine and she just laughed and we were seated behind the requested placing. Another couple turned up and were given that seat who were not celebrating. At the end of our meal a plate with 'happy birthday' and four truffles were placed in front of me by the greeter without comment so on the way out I just said to her, 'I told you it was my birthday' and she smiled sweetly. Having said all that, and slightly disappointed, it still remains one of our favourites."

  • "Excellent meal as always. The starter was particularly amazing with the scollops cooked to perfection. The balance of flavours superb and made me want to ask for seconds."
    dined on 27/06/2014
  • "The standard of food here is pretty solid for a 1 Michelin-starred restaurant. The food is more on the traditional cooking but the cooking is very good. The lunch offer is great as the menu is very similar to the dinner menu with only 1 or 2 choices taken off compared to the dinner menu, so you will expect the standard is the same while dining at a cheaper price."

  • "Visited for the umpteenth time on Friday but unfortunately it wasn’t our best visit. The service certainly wasn’t up to its usual high standard, we waited ages for drinks, infact so long, we had eaten our bread by the time they came, not sure if they were training new staff but some of the waiters didn’t seem to know what they were doing, leaning across to pour water is just one example. I chose well, my foie gras, suckling pig and rhubarb soufflé were all great, however my companions were underwhelmed with their octopus and John Dory. We also had an issue with the wine, which was solved but it did take some time. We will return - as it is my husband’s favourite restaurant but hopefully they will iron out some of the glitches by then."

  • "We were having a celebration and chose Lt as a very special place to eat and greet. The menu is not over sized and the food selection was marvelous. The service is discreet, excellent and very friendly but not over baring. Not once did they ask 'and how is the food sir' which drives me mad. They made us feel like friends returning and we had a wonderful meal and evening . The wine list had a great range of wines from I thought very reasonably priced but very drinkable wines up to the high priced specials. We chose a mid priced Cote de Rhone red which came chilled to just the right temperature to last the meal and which they offered to decant for us without being asked. All in all a lovely meal and we will certainly be going back."

  • "Before departing from Heathrow the following morning, we ate dinner at La Trompette. The restaurant is located on a side street in Chiswick, near enough to the airport. We sat on the street terrace, and had a very pleasant evening. The food was delicious and beautiful. The table and sommelier service was excellent."

  • "We normally visit for lunch during the week or maybe dinner in the evening. The ambience has always been lovely. This time we went on a Saturday for lunch and had to contend with screaming very small children. We won't go again on for lunch on a Saturday. I felt sorry for the restaurant. If they had been my children, I would have put them in the push char and taken them out for a walk."

  • "Since I had eaten here, still very good, but not as exceptional as I remember, maybe that just me"
    dined on 12/06/2014
  • "Went for lunch with a friend. Excellent food, 3 courses, lovely bottle of wine. Under £100 including service. Highly recommended."

  • "I absolutely love this restaurant it's perfect in every way. The service is outstanding just wonderful not too formal and the food is always out of this world.I went for lunch and the three courses for a set price is amazing value.. This restaurant is perfect for a special occasion or if you just fancy a special treat.. Can't say enough about it.. They have got it so right."

  • "I had walk past this restaurant many times and had always want to go in. This week I went with my wife to celebrate our wedding anniversary. The food was stunning, the service was excellent and the ambiance was chilled. It was like being in a restaurant in the West End. I'd recommend this restaurant to anyone. "

  • " Reception asked 'Name?' without looking up. Can I take your coat ? " I dont have a coat!" reply "Sorry, but I am told to read from a script" My point here is that this place should be too good for scripts. Service was initially very slow, but improved later. My crab linguine (£5 extra) was very disappointing. Wifes Foie Gras excellent. My lamb very very fatty and unpleasant. Wifes Guinea Fowl was good. Chocolate desert ok but not special. Wifes Rhubarb souffle was spectacularly good. It redeemed everything else. I was jealous.Really jealous! I was irritated that menu shows price as £40 for threee courses which seems not bad. However, by the time you add VAT, service and wine its £170 a couple so not exactly cheap. Until next time!"

  • "I recommend this restaurant without hesitation. Excellent all around."

  • "La Trompette stands out as one of the best restaurants in London. The food is consistently excellent; imaginative, beautifully presented and delicious. Excellent wine cellar. No over-priced bottled water forced upon diners either. Staff are welcoming, extremely knowledgeable, but never overbearing. Ambiance and decor neither dull nor over the top; indeed a perfect balance between comfort and style. I have had the pleasure of dining at La Trompette many times over many years, and each occasion has been memorable for the quality of food served and service received. I would not hesitate recommending this restaurant to even the staunchest foodie critic. Long May this restaurant remain in my part of town!"

  • "Food was flawless, service was friendly and efficient. Not the cheapest restaurant in the area, but you get what you pay for. Only minor negative is that the tables are quite close together. "
    dined on 29/05/2014
  • "I met my date for a meal to get to know her better and La Trompetta created a lovely evening for us. The service was non intrusive but really friendly, they left us to talk without rushing us and the menu was innovative, beautifully presented and excellent value! "

  • "All 3 courses was presented beautifully and tasted just as good. The service was spot on. Loved the experience."
    dined on 24/05/2014
  • "We had a wonderful evening. The food was beautifully presented, and tasted as good as it looked. The service was charming, friendly and attentive. The tables were well spaced so that you had some privacy. +++++"
    dined on 23/05/2014
  • "Both the starters and mains were average. The crab linguine starter had no flavour or sign of the crab. The scallop starter (the chef's special for the night) was ok. But not worth the extra £7 you had to pay for it. Also the presentation was very poor. The mains (fallow deer, suckling pig) were nice. But didn't have the "wow factor" we were expecting. You could expect to get the same meals at a nice gastro pub. Luckily the desserts were fantastic (creme fraiche tart with mango and passiofruit, tiramisu)! This along with the good service and the lovely wine (very good sommelier!) were the only things that saved the night. But I wouldn't go there again and won't recommend it to any friends. "

  • "Great food. Treated our Australian friends, who loved everything about it. Expensive so special occasion treat only for us. "
    dined on 16/05/2014
  • "La Trompette maintains exactingly high standards. All the food that our table of 4 ordered was superb. Service is friendly and the sommelier very helpful."

  • "This is our second trip to La Trompette and it didn't disappoint! The food, staff and overall customer experience was absolutely first class and is an example of how restaurants of all types should do things. "
    dined on 14/05/2014
  • "The food was beautifully prepared and presented; the service immaculate but not cold. It was a most pleasurable celebration. Parking in the area is the only problem - hard to find and limited to 2 hours."
    dined on 12/05/2014
  • "Many thanks to blonde italian waiter, who was the only kind person. The woman manager was very rude. No michellin star restaurant. Food exceptional!"

  • "If you haven't tried it you are missing out. exceptional food, service and ambience."

  • "Although living locally, I had avoided La Trompette for some time. Recently, I was told that there had been a great improvement since its reopening. This proved to be the case. Excellently thought out menu (the rhubarb crumble souffle has to be one of the best puddings ever) , impeccable, discrete service and an interesting wine list, though markup is a little steep, even for G. B.) I will return. "
