Diner Reviews
  • "Great food in a rather lovely intimate restaurant that was clean, sparkling and smelled delicious, but we were practically the only ones dining (there was one lady hotel resident and one man at the cost bar area off the restaurant) at 5.30pm for our pre-theatre. It didn't bother us at all as we could hear ourselves speak and the food was very good, beautifully presented and very tasty. A nice menu choice too, with some standard and some different choices. Great pre-theatre deal that also included a glass of wine. "

  • "Had dinner on a Thurstday night. Despite the restaurant was quite empty (3 tables) the waiters weren't able to offer a good service and presence. I had to request many times their attention for topping up the wine glasses or the bread plate. The food was ok and the Hotel looks worthier than the Restaurant itself."

  • "despite getting there before our booking(!) we were made very welcome, by Abby, who looked after us splendidly throughout. we had the pre/post theatre deal -two courses, wine and coffee!- which was excellent quality and outstanding value. nothing was too much trouble! we are telling all our friends about landseer and hope to come again soon. thank you for a memorable contribution to our weekend in london!"

  • "We had our Christmas Day lunch as a treat at this restaurant and were very pleasantly surprised. The food was faultless, really lovely dishes and just the right quantity. The service was excellent, all the team were friendly and could not have been more helpful and pleasant. Thank you!"

  • "The Landseer was an excellent choice. It was smart and modern. The staff were attentive and the food was good value."

  • "We booked for myself, husband and son are theatre. Wanted something to set the tone and spend time with each other in our ever busy lives. This hit the button all accounts; service which was exemplary whilst still warm, friendly and welcoming, atmosphere which was relaxing, food which was simply gorgeous. We were able to sit and talk unrushed, but not slow service either. It gave us the time to be whilst enjoying beautiful food. The value I believe was amazing for what we got, left very relaxed and happy."

  • "The pre-theatre dinner here was exceptionally good value: a 3-course meal with a glass of wine, and coffee/petit fours for less than £30. There was a fair amount of choice, and the food very palatable. The staff were very polite and helpful, including towards one of us who has a special dietary requirement. The bar staff were also efficient and welcoming, and the modern but very comfortable bar had a pleasant atmosphere - even on a Friday night! 18 of us had a very enjoyable evening there - we dine together monthly and the Landseer was one of our best evenings."

  • "An unexpected business meal and I remembered our recent stay at the Bloomsbury Hotel. The attentive service in The Landseer went down well with our guests and the food was first class. Particular praise for the corned beef hash starter with a fried egg on top, and the rabbit terrine. The filet steak was well received and presented as was the mixed grill and the fresh fish selection from Billingsgate which came with a little basket of triple cooked chips. A great atmosphere and hidden away in the basement of The Bloomsbury Hotel - this restaurant is worth knowing about."

  • "Went here with client - and only one other table was occupied, but nevertheless there was no consistency of service (when we could actually see someone). They didn't have Chablis wine (except half bottles of which two would have been infinitely more expensive) and when they did bring some it was just plonked on our table with no bucket. Really awful - I'm guessing that there was a big convention in the hotel that day, in which case the restaurant shouldn't have been open."

  • "Best meal I have had in a long time! The staff were friendly and the wine was lovely. The lobster bisque which was my favourite course out of all 3. The soup came in a jug which the waiter poured in to the bowl at the table which was a nice touch. For mains I had a generous portion of battered sea bass and chips with tartare sauce (which I am not a fan of but even that tasted good) and pea puree. My sister had duck which was delicious! For dessert I had the massive chocolate plate which was 4 desserts on 1 plate! As much as I wanted to, I couldn't finish it because it was so generous and I am a chocoholic! My sister had a big Mille-feuille with passion fruit ice cream. Top marks for food, I would definitely recommend!"

  • "I went with a party of four on Saturday. The ambience was what I was looking for, quiet enough to have a conversation but not totally empty. The menu looked good, and most of my party's meals were fine. My choice was the duck which I was told came quite pink-it was very overcooked which was a shame. This may have had something to do with how long it took to come - not sure what was going on; the restaurant was not busy but we were apologised to twice for the delay. The service is polite without being overbearing-if you like being attended to fastidiously, it's not the place for you. Overall, I thought it was ok but for the price I'd expect the food to be much better than it was in terms of sending out food which has clearly gone wrong."

  • "Attentive staff, simple not too creative menu, but the food was good. Would not go there for a special occasion though."

  • "This restaurant has a bistro like feel but was a little lacking in atmosphere when empty on a november evening! The service and food was good. The scallop starter was excellant my Husbands dover sole for main course was the best he had had anywhere. Puddings were of a similar high standard. The wine list is reasonable priced. There is a nice cosy wood pannelled bar adjacent to the restaurant for pre and post drinks."

  • "A very nice meal in the Lanseer Restaurant was tainted by the disappointing service. We had booked a table for 7pm, and on arrival were ushered into the bar to wait for our table. 45 minutes, later we were eventually shown to our table, having been given no update during that time. Service during the first two courses was fine, but then we were abandoned. Had to ask for the desert menu. The server who had attended us for the first two courses disappeared and we later saw her polishing glasses behind the bar. Needless to say no tip was given. On a positive note, the food was very good, very hot and well presented, so credit to the kitchen staff."

  • "A group of 9 of us had dinner at the Landseer restaurant before the show We Will Rock You. We had booked the table through a reservation system. When we arrived at the restaurant, with not a whole lot of time before the show, the staff seemed perplexed - evidently the booking agency had failed to inform them of our reservation. At first we were afraid we would end up having to leave without having dinner, but the Landseer staff reacted quickly and calmly and had us sitting at a large table within a short time. Because the kitchen was not prepared for our group, we had to choose from a limited menu. However, the food was excellent and promptly served, so that we were able to get out and to the show on time."

  • "The Bloomsbury is a lovely hotel the restaurant decor isn't as nice as the rest of the hotel but still fine. They also let you use the Tastecard on a Saturday. Service was attentive but not smothering. Food was tasty. I thought pairing an Asian-style duck breast with a potato gratin (essentially a potato bake) was a little odd. Also they have me beans instead of the sugar-snap peas on the menu. My partner's steak was slightly overcooked but of good quality. Portion sizes were small and prices were expensive. I don't think it would be good value without the 50% off from the TasteCard. They also charged 4.50 for a small side of steamed vegetables and didn't give us the 50% off - I only realised after we left. Close to the theatres as well"

  • "Some rather interesting combinations (lemon sol cannelloni. Chocolate fondant with baileys ice cream and coconut cream). We also had Salmon on the grill, which might sound quite ordinary, but was done to a high standard, delicious, accompanied by nasty thick chips, which were great fun :) Thumbs up for the chef. It's also quite cool eating in a hotel's restaurant!"

  • "Went here for birthday supper - never again! Some food on the menu wasn't available, food that was available was tasteless, cold and presented badly. Wine was warm and we ended up serving ourselves as staff were invisible, despite only one other party in restaurant. Cheese & biscuits turned out to be a huge lump of cheddar, branston pickle and stale cheese straws?? Then we got the wrong bill and staff stood around sniggering while we argued with Manager. Awful night, don't go there!"

  • "Service was very slow as we were 2 of the maybe 10 people in the place. The "hand cut chips where raw in the middle, the steak was Luke warm, as was the blue cheese sauce. My wife's duck was raw in the middle (it was stone cold in the middle) what a was of money. I had better food at the all inclusive hotel in turkey."

  • "The food was adequate for staying in. Steak wasn't as rare as I would have hoped. I would have preferred the filet which was not available. Chips were surprisingly good. Sald greens served on side with steak, but not dressed. Hollandaise sauce not made from scratch. Spinach was good, gruyere simply melted on top though. Cocktail was large which made up for price. Staff was wonderful. Great place if you want to just wander downstairs and have dinner without a lot of fuss."

  • "We went to the restaurant on a Sunday evening, which was pretty dead (we were the only ones there). This was made up for my the fact that our waitor chatted with us for a while and we never had a long wait. I am sure that during the week or early weekend, the place is filled. The food was delicious."

  • "Quite a nice restaurant, but very evident that it was a hotel restaurant, had a kind of canteen-y feel. The vegetarian options on the menu were limited and portions were quite small. Felt like it was quite overpriced even with the taste card discount. Decided against having a dessert because all the dessert options were quite unappealing. I don't ever want to see rice pudding and prunes on a dessert menu and I doubt this gets ordered very often. Also the chocolate surprise option was far too ambiguous, but had I have known what it was I might have ordered it! Staff were very friendly and attentive, although this was probably due to the lack of customers."

  • "Food was lovely but took AGES to arrive - and the restauarant wasn't even that busy. One waiter (an Irish guy) was lovely and one was just useless, not very friendly and didn't smile once. Maybe he was just having a bad night. We felt quite forgotten about, no one came over to offer us a desert menu, we had to ask for it after waiting for about 15 minutes. Maybe they were giving us some space but it didn't feel that way. Desert also took a long time in coming. The food was great though! If you are ordering any of the meats, order a side dish as the meal is just the meat. We should probably have realised this but it would have been nice to have been recommended to order veg etc to go with it."

  • "Good British Grub in a pleasant environment. The Landseer is a good venue for a business lunch - tempting British grub such as steak and kidney pie on offer, but with some class. No signage on the outside of the building however, so be sure that your guests are aware that it is in the basement at the Bloomsbury Hotel"

We had the fish mixed grill and the salmon, thought we were playing it safe! We seemed to be the only ones in the restaurant, now we know why. The staff were very friendly though."

I asked for both meals to be brought together, so it took over an hour to get food. We were compensated by having free drink. Restaurant completely empty no ambience at all, nobody there either."
