A word from Librizzis
With its wonderful food and intimate atmosphere Librizzi is very popular with locals. Tall white walls frame a smart yet cosy space in which elegant black chairs sit at white linen-draped tables. Chef Filippo Librizzi promises 'the true taste of Sicily' in an exciting culinary diversion from the well-worn track of Italian food. The lunch menu offers classic dishes such as grilled sardines, and succulent lamb and pork meatballs served with sautéed potatoes. At night, by candlelight, the table d'hote menu lists simple, fresh fish, meat and pasta dishes such as pasta quills with Sicilian sausage in a tomato and chilli sauce. Filippo's love of fish is reflected in the fish specials which change every few days.

Good, authentic Italian food on offer at Librizzis particularly if you appreciate fish and seafood, which are their speciality. Really enjoyed the sardine starter and risotto, which was excellent. Don't expect a pizza though as there are none on the menu! Only disappointment was that the Grillo Sicilian wine had finished although listed on the menu.

Lovely romantic restaurant, genuinly Italian with delicious food. A real haven to find in the midst of many processed Italian chains that have forgotten about using fresh delicious ingredients. A little bit more pricey than I would noramally go for, but definitely worth it and we will be going back for our next special occasion!

We've had dinner in a group of four at this restaurant and sampled a selection of starters, mains and deserts. The food was overall quite alright, but certainly nothing outstanding. Scallops for mains was the best dish of the evening, deserts disappointing across the board. For the price, I would have expected more..

I booked this venue for a long leisurely Italian style Saturday lunch with 2 girlfriends. We arrived at 12:30 ready to spend time and money on food and drink but I hadn't realised that the restaurant closed at 2 o'clock! They were pretty decent as we left after 3. It's a shame because the setting is pleasant, overlooking Queen Street and the Gardens beyond and the food is pretty good too.

This is a good Sicilian restaurant. The food and wine were both excellent and the service was pleasant. My husband and I went on a Friday evening, and it was almost empty. We are in our 20s, and were the youngest people in there by a good 40 years.

I have visited this restaurant 4 or 5 times since its opening in 1999/2000, though not for the past 6 or 7 years. The last visit was on Saturday 29 September 2012. The food has always been excellent and the service friendly and cheerfull, and we were not disappointed this time either. The restaurant also has a good selection of quality wines at a very good value. I was surprised at the number of vacant tables at our last visit, this restaurant certainly deserves a lot more guests. This place has my best recommendation!

Visited this town centre venue on a Saturday night, to find there were only 2 other diners. Such a shame as this place used to be buzzing. You can't blame the recession though, as the week before we had dined at The Honours just across the road from Librizzi and it was absolutely packed, even though it was double the price.

Been to librizzi many times and had a great time. This time, not so good. Food was ok but not great. Scallop starter completely overcooked. Prawn risotto lovely, but tuna steak and lamb that my friends had were very overcooked. Wine list more limited than I remember, and very little advice available from the waiter. Service a bit slow. Not sure whether they just had a bad evening, but sadly I don't think I'll be back.

Nice ambience, good food, but not exceptional as the price would indicate, if you want a quieter meal and more intimacy, then if your prepared to pay for it, then This is a nice place! If you want just as good food, if not better, with a lively atmosphere, then Jamie Oliver's beats it by far. We happened to mention we're had just got engaged ( in the restraunt ) and we were congradated, but the response was a little flat

What a find! Librizzis is a fantastic venue for real Italian food in the heart of Edinburgh. My fussy eater ten year old son devoured a heaped plate of spaghetti and my partner and I enjoyed delicious starters and beautifully cooked Sicilian main dishes. Our congratulations to the chef - he is something special! Prosecco was exquisite and the service was excellent throughout the evening. When we return to Edinburgh Librizzis will be a definite favourite and I am already looking forward to returning.

    OpenTable Diner Since 2011

I went for dinner on Christmas Eve with my parents. The ambiance and room layout was simple and so was the tableware. The food was pretty amazing, I would not say "outstanding" but close to it. We all took different mixtures from the Christmas menu; I had soup, chicken and chocolate tart. I also tried the risotto my mom had for starter and everything was so good! It looked simple but the taste-delicious! My mother said this resto seems to be an insiders tip (and apparently most of the guests knew the staff and each other...) The staff was nice but my mom was disappointed as they did not say goodbye to us. Summing up: The restaurant is really Italian, the ambiance is a bit simple but the food is very, very good.

My husband and I ate at the Librizzi on north castle st., edinburgh on a busy sat. night just before Christmas. We thoroughly enjoyed our evening, the restaurant has a relaxed but professional feel. My starter of homemade pumpkin soup was great but the chicken in my main was a little dry but still quite tasty due to the lovely tomato stuffing ( my only gripe!). Our table was in a corner away from the main dining area , not the best view it has to be said. However I would dine there again .

4 of us arrived at an empty restaurant early on Sat eve. We were shown to a table in a small room of 4 other tables off the main dining room. Whilst thinking nothing of it at the time, as the restaurant filled with diners everyone was given a table in the main room while we sat in an empty room for well over an hour before the other 3 tables were taken. We felt like the "poor relations", but handy for the kitchen & loos. However, the food and service were superb as was the value 3course menu

On our first visit to Ristorante Librizzi for some time we had a very enjoyable meal helped in no small part by a very full and vibrant environment given it was a Tuesday evening. The food was mostly excellent excepting two Halibut mains that were both cool, overcooked and consequently very dry - clearly they had been waiting and with hindsight we should have sent them back.
