A word from Lola and Simón

The owners Lola & Simón have, after six years, sold to former Zafferano head chef Andy Needham. Kristen and Nico - who named the Ravenscourt park restaurant after their dogs - said they felt 'mixed emotions' at selling the premises but that it was necessary for the business to be 'expertly guided to the next level'.

The restaurant is named after Simón and Lola ,Simón's mate, who was rescued from the streets of Buenos Aires)

That's where Needham - who left Belgravia's once famous Italian Zafferano in 2012 - came in. He has taken over the reins at Lola & Simón,

Regulars to the Ravenscourt Park café, known locally as “the perfect morning pitstop”, need not fear. Needham has no drastic changes on the agenda. He plans to run the cosy establishment with the same energy and enthusiasm as Kristen and Nico, building on its reputation as a great family and community Hammersmith hub.

Diner Reviews
  • "The portion is a bit small but the price is alright. The food was alright but the dessert was very good. The service was quick and friendly.I think they wanted us to go because the resturant was going to close for the day. They prepare for the next day around us. They also sent us the bill before we asked for it. The experience was ok."

  • "First visit on Saturday night to celebrate a family birthday. Very pleasantly surprised by the quality of the food, the ambience and excellent service. A thoroughly enjoyable experience and one I'm sure we will repeat."

  • "We had a nice meal at L&S. I would recommend a visit. The empanadas were the high light of the mixed platter starter. Lovely spicy beef with crunchy vegetables wrapped in exotic spices. I had the large beef steak with chimichurri and a side of green beans. The steak was wonderfully tender and more medium than medium rare. Large and juicy, there was more than enough. My wife had the Milanese steak, which she thoroughly enjoyed. For dessert, we shared the chocolate torte. Served with whipped cream, it was lovely, though a touch on the small side. The whole meal came to nearly £75, which with no wine, was not cheap. Great food and good service though. I would go back."

  • "Really enjoyed our meal here. Had the lamb and then the orange cake for dessert which was fab- then I tried my friend's dulche de leche pudding and wish I'd ordered that- it was gorgeous! We also had the happiest waiter ever- he was just lovely."

  • "This place looks so warm and welcoming from outside, and the greeting inside was great too. Food is unusual and varied, and well-cooked, though both veggie dish and dessert were a little stodgy compared to delicious starters and mains. There was a certain lack of flexibility though - partner asked for mashed potato as a side and was told it wasn't possible, even though it is on the menu with another dish, and it was served to someone else in our party. That made the very friendly welcome seem slightly insincere. Overall, very good, but given the prices, it could just go that extra mile to be outstanding."

  • "We were 2 of 4 patrons in the restaurant so it was quiet and the music and ambiance were lovely, steak was delicious. We sat in the window, next time we would like to try the raised level at the back. Nice place for a celebration meal, smart but casual."

  • "Interesting concept, fusion of New Zealand and Argentina, works quite well. Service was great straight off the bat, the resaturant is small, cozy, good lighting and comfortable seats, and the food was fantastic. We had the sharing platter to start off with, which was fantastic, and for mains I had the steak, which was cooked perfectly. The wines were a bit on the expensive side, but life's too short to drink cheap wine."

  • "Great restaurant. Fantastic food and excellent service. Went here to celebrate our engagement and they really made it special for us. Would highly recommend the restaurant."

  • "I travelled 2 hours to meet a relative to dine here. Unfortunately we didn't qualify for the early bird offer as I had made a mistake on the toptable booking. Found it to be expensive for 1 course each and a single glass of wine. A 12.5% service charge was also added to the bill. My Milanesa Napolitana was a little overcooked and dry. On a positive note the sirloin steak was very good."

  • "Great place...love everything about it. Service is excellent and attentive. The food is very well-executed, nicely presented and the home-made ice cream will convert those who don't have a sweet-tooth! Just don't tell the neighbours!"

  • "We booked the restaurant before a concert at the Hammersmith Apollo which it is very convenient for (15 minutes walk). Lola and Simon is a great "local" restaurant. It is intimate and has plenty of atmosphere. The food was excellent and the service welcoming and efficient. It is also very good value for money. A real gem and one that we will return to"

  • "It's a good combo, I found their steak particulatrly good. The rice pudding dessert with dulche deleche is one to look out for. It's a great little neighbourhood restauarant - if you're nearby highly recommended."

  • "Really liked Lola and Simon! Service was very friendly and attentive. Food was overall delicious! the pancakes with salmon were memorable, the empanadas were well seasoned though the dough could be improved. The lamb shank was very good. The veggie ravioli could have had more flavour. The pear with fennel and ginger ice cream was a perfect light note to end the dinner. All dishes came well presented and in a generous portion. Can't wait to go back!"

  • "We had the Argentinean steaks which were charred nicely on the outside while remaining tender inside. Best steak i've had in a while. They at first lost our starter order, but when they discovered this had happened the server came over to let us know (which was nice and honest, much appreciated), and the starters came out very shortly."

  • "Lola and Simon a nice neighbourhood restaurant with a twist - argentinian food and NZ wine. Meat-lovers are in for a treat; vegetarians can still find something tasty. Reasonably priced wine list."

  • "I've visited quite a few times, being a chiswick local, and it never dissappoints. Food was clean, simple and full of flavour. I had grilled squid, with a lamb main. The only thing to note was it wasn't quite so busy as usual so lacked a little of the normal buzz."

  • "A unique small restaurant in amongst the homogenised group of restaurants that we are inundated with in London. It serves Argentian food and has many Argentian wines too. We gave one of the wines a go, I think it was called Tapis which we can highly recommend and it was not pricey. For starters, we both had the squid was spicey and yummy. I had the salmon salad for main which was yummy - nice crunch to it as well as good combinations, perfect for a hot summer's day. My friend had the chicken and there was not much left of it. Staff were also the epitomy of politeness but cool too. All round, good restaurant."

  • "A week night dinner at Lola and Simon was a pleasant experience. We took our while to order but the wait staff was very patient and friendly. I enjoyed my dessert in particular. The gnocchi were tasty but quite heavy; more than one vegetarian main would be nice. My greatest disappointment is that the menu on the restaurant's website is out of date; it lists several dishes I was looking forward to trying which turned out to have disappeared from the menu and replaced with less exciting options."

  • "Highly recommend. Lovely room, excellent atmosphere, top service attentive and informative and just the right level of attention given. Food very, very good and really moorish chips (not that you'd go just for the chips but they were surprisingly good hence worth the mention). It's a short, well thought out menu. I will return and am more than happy to recommend this restaurant to others."

  • "I went to Lolo and Simon because I am staying nearby and because, as a carnivorous New Zealander, the NZ & Argentinian combination sounded great. Pluses - stunningly good mussels starter (i prefer plain more than sauce...but this was the best sauce ever tasted), outstanding house wines (if not cheap), lovely ambience and service. Negatives - steak was ok, but not up to my expectations of Argentinian beef (rather more fat than expected) and only comes with mash"

  • "Server had the audacity to tell me not to be concerned about the fact that the vintage quoted on the menu was not the vintage shown on the ₤30 bottle of Malbec we ordered because "all the vintages are the same because the weather is always the same in Argentina." Ahem. No price adjustment either, so we were charged for an older vintage for a younger wine. Spent cocktail glasses sat on our table throughout our main course despite being stacked up conveniently for their collection long before our starters arrived. This Argentine restaurant has no chimichurri. That is like going to a Japanese restaurant with no soy sauce. Food was okay but not very Argentine. Ambiance was nice."

  • "Lola and Simon: Pleasant restaurant. Went there on Valentine's night - got there early so initially had our own space. Tables quite close to each other so difficult not to overhear the conversations of others. Food was tasty and the service polite and attentive. To be honest - after reading the reviews on Toptable - I was expecting something a little bit more special and so perhaps felt a little disappointed. Suggest changing some of the pictures on the wall?"

  • "Lola & Simon, Ravenscourt Park, Hammersmith, London is a very cozy unassuming venue. This was second visit and the party of 12 all left satisfied. This was for a christmas dinner, but there was no turkey on offer. The Steak and mash went down a treat as did Empanada's - which gives this venue a little hint of something different. The Staff were very attentive and helpful. Highly recommended for laid back atmosphere and tasty food."

  • "We had a good meal at Lola and Simon in Hammersmith. It was quite buzzy for a Tuesday night and everyone's food was good (chicken was excellent). Good wine list too with a nice selection by the glass. There was a mistake with our order, but this was rectified within 15 minutes and a free dessert given. Nice touch."

  • "We went for a wonderful meal at Lola and Simon's King Street W6 on Saturday. We did not want a large meal so we just had the Steak which was succulant and delicious (medium) and just right brown on outside and pink on in! We ended the meal with a delicious ginger pudding with ginger cream. The wine we chose was a Malbec which went superbly with the Argentinian steak. ~We will definitely be going there again."

  • "Lola & Simon (named after the owners dogs in Argentina) was excellent. It started before we got there, running late we rang to see if we could change our booking, they were very helpful. The staff were friendly and helpful and the food was delicious. We went with the waiters recommendation on the wine and the 'special' main of venison cutlets'and were ot dissapointed with either . We were not rushed and it was so nice to have our water topped up without any mention of buying mineral water."
