A word from Ma Goa
This popular Putney favourite serves authentic Indian cooking, typically served in Indian homes. 'Ma' Kapoor continues to cook and advise her excellent team and can still be found bargaining for the freshest produce in Southall and Tooting. The emphasis here is on simple spicing and fresh seasonal ingredients and they cook little and often to ensure this, so don't be disappointed if they occasionally run out of dishes. The menu crossed many boundaries from Goa to Mumbai with Nepali, Persian and Pakistani influences and more taken from uncles, aunties, grandparents, and friends. This friendly team are happy to suggest dishes to create a well-balanced meal and cater for special dietary requirements.Continued

Diner Reviews
  • "We went to Ma Goa with my parents to celebrate my birthday and we weren't disappointed. The value for London and such a great food was amazing. The ribs for starter and slow cooked lamb for main were the stars of the meal. Also a good wine list! Would highly recommend! "

  • "The setting was relatively informal, intimate & lively and the food as excellent, if not better than some of the top Central London Indian restaurants we've been to. The service was friendly and food promptly delivered cooked to order. The variety between meat, veg or seafood/fish offered on the menu was excellent and their desert menu likewise. I had a 'simple' green curry chicken which was so special in its flavour, good sized chicken breast pieces and lots of delicious sauce. We barely had room for the lovely deserts but managed the kulfi of the day, mango which was one of the best we've ever had- memorable!. This was our first visit,,attracted by its inclusion in the book Capital Spice and we highly recommend it, and will be back."

  • "Went for the sunday buffet lunch option which provided a decent selection at a very good price. Tables are sat a little bit too close together for my liking but overall a very good experience"

  • "I visited Ma Goa on 5 April 2014 for a birthday dinner with my boyfriend. He's a committed meat eater and I'm a vegetarian, so we don't always like the same restaurants! But with Ma Goa there's no problem - we were both beautifully catered for. The food is incredible and portions are generous."

  • "Popped in midweek with a friend and had a lovely meal. My Lanbshank was as good as any I have had. A few weeks previously I had a meal on Sunday evening and was delighted to find they had a Sunday special of a Keema curry. This was really special and probably the best I've ever had. I wish I could have the recipe."

  • "Love goan curries! Not overly creamy, both meat and fish options are outstanding."

  • "My family had a lovely meal at this restaurant, every dish that we ordered was full of complex flavours (different from the standard curry house!) and they were all delicious. I would definitely recommed this restaurant to friends and family."

  • "What I liked most about this restaurant was that it was different and offered choices I had never seen before. Lamb and kidney starter was absolutely delicious as was the sea bass. Spicing was excellent and flavour was deep and interesting. Recommend if you are not into "high street" curries and want something authentic."

  • "Fantastic wine selection, delicious dishes from an interesting menu and attentive staff - the perfect Goan restaurant."
    dined on 05/03/2014
  • "The food was good and we tried a big selection from the menu. Great variety of dishes, tasty lamb and naan bread. However the correlation of portions/price was not the best. We found it a bit pricey."

  • "Really tasty Indian food, definitely one of the best in London. Friendly staff and very good service, too! We will be back,"
    dined on 28/02/2014
  • "Excellent selection of Goan cuisine, a much welcome change if like me you don't like the usual Indian restaurant offering of korma and masala. Delicious starters? I had the salmon, great food and good portions. Decent wine selection too reasonable priced. Ill definitely go back."
    dined on 21/02/2014
  • "We were impressed with the range of dishes on offer - several starters, mains and sides as well as bread. All of them were tasty. Very good value for money. I wouldn't mind going every Sunday!"
    dined on 16/02/2014
  • "I generally love Indian food but this was one of the most unpleasant meals I've had the misfortune to eat in a restaurant. The food had no light and shade and the four meat dishes I tried tasted very similar to me. The masalas tasted sour and pungent and much more like a marinate that a sauce. The pork ribs were just pure fat and not very tasty either. The service was friendly but didn't make up for the poor food."
    dined on 14/02/2014
  • "Excellent tasty Goan food Only problem is WHERE to park!"

  • "As always, the food was interesting and unique. Tasty, and well presented. On top of that you are treated to wonderful service that makes you feel valued as a customer, rather than a burden. I had to pop out during the meal to move my car, and the staff had taken my food to be kept warm, and then brought it back with fresh cutlery and dishes. Very professional and considerate service. Cannot recommend enough. I love curry, and will now exclusively go here..."

  • "We had a very pleasant dinner on Saturday night, my friends chose meat dishes, I opted for vegetarian, which was delicious. I had some beautiful dahl of the day and okra with a paratha. All in all, a really great meal and I would not hesitate to have another meal at Ma Goa"

  • "Service was rushed but attentive, and food sounded exciting but on arrival was greasy and didn't deliver on flavour. The 2 courses for £10 was very good value and the final bill was cheap."

  • "Tried the buffet for the first time, Really good value and quality."

  • "Excellent as ever, we took our Trinidadian grandparents for dinner on Sunday. Everything perfect, and treated us exceptionally well as regular customers, with delicious complimentary white port to finish."

  • "Went to Ma Goa last week with my family and we were all in agreement, Ma Goa is a goer! The service was excellent, the ambience lively and chatty (without being TOO loud) and the food was delicious. Typically Goan food with delicate spices and beautifully cooked. I would thoroughly recommend it and we will be going again. The only thing I would suggest is if they could add a healthy menu option for anyone on a New Year's diet (!) because it's always difficult to know which dishes are low in fat and which are out of our league, a simple green heart sign by the side of a dish would do."
    dined on 17/01/2014
  • "We ate a Friday dinner for 2. It was our first time. The food was very nice, although I ought to have identified that the chicken was on the bone, so felt as though I could have eaten more. We will go back if in the area again and in the mood for Indian!"
    dined on 10/01/2014
  • "The decor needs to be modernised now. there is a need to have some more powerful air extraction system in place in the kitchen as my clothes smelled of the onions afterwards."

  • "This family run restaurant offers a warm welcome and serves interesting and delicious dishes."

  • "We had a lovely meal here, although the restaurant itself was a little too warm, the food was delicious and freshly cooked with very good service."
    dined on 29/11/2013
  • "Lovely dips, starters and main courses. I've been 4 times and never had a bad dish. Service is great and staff love to explain dishes. Our beer (husband) and wine was very good also. I've never tried the desserts. The after dinner drinks were not so good. Husband ordered Irish coffee, which did not look good and he said it tasted like instant coffee. My chai tea also disappointed because the well known brand of chai I have at home is much more fragrant. We will stick to the lovely food, beer and wine in future."
    dined on 30/11/2013
  • "We live in the North of England and unfortunately cannot visit Ma Goa as often as we would like. We have found the service and the food to be excellent and as long as we keep going to Twickenham for rugby matches we will always reserve a table at Ma Goa for our evening meal. Thank you to Kapoor Dee and all the staff from Steve and Esther"
    dined on 30/11/2013
  • "An all-round excellent experience! I hadn't been here for the best part of 10 years, but the food & service was as good as I always remembered it to be. I would recommend Ma Goa to anyone who wants Indian style cuisine with a special touch....try the lamb shank as a main, it's amazing!!"
    dined on 23/11/2013
  • "After quite a long absence, returned to Ma Goa for family meal and were not disappointed. Starters immaculate and lamb shank sublime. Seemed to be busier than previous visits for early dinner - sign of success perhaps. We remain regular patrons."
    dined on 23/11/2013
  • "I go to Ma Goa every few months and the quality of the food is always excellent, that staff friendly and helpful and the prices reasonable. It's great to have that kind of consistency in a local restaurant."

    dined on 23/10/2013
  • "This is quite different/superior to your standard curry house. The dishes are really packed with flavour. I had the lamb shank and it fell off the bone. The poppadums are great and love the mango chutney. The peshwari naan is one of the best I've ever had. Really recommend this place if you want a truly decent curry."
    dined on 18/10/2013
  • "Enjoyed a family dinner at ma goa. The service is delightful and helpful. The food was really tasty and to expensive for London prices. Would be happy to return."

  • "The staff were all friendly however for what we paid I was disappointed at the portion sizes being a bit on the small side."
    dined on 27/09/2013
  • "I should point out I am Goan, & have been disappointed with lots of other “Goan”/south indian restaurants in the past. Ordering for me was easy I picked my favourites from many years of Goan parties & mums cooking. I picked the Sorlpotel & the Vindaloo both classic Goan dishes (Goan Vidaloo is not what passes for Vindaloo in other restaurants as vindaloo, it’s about the same difference as a pot noodle compared to a true Japanese ramen.) Both dishes were Goan dishes not others masquerading as Goan. If you want a true taste of Goa (without flying there) this is a very good restaurant."

  • "I booked a table for a table of 7 at Ma Goa. The restaurant was busy and service did suffer a bit. It took a long time for our drinks to come, one of the guest starters had been "forgotten" so she ate hers after everyone else had finished and it took a very long time for the main course to arrive. Having said that, the food, with one exception, was really good and everyone had a really good time. The one exception was my pork vindaloo. The meat was swimming in a really thick gravy. It was spicy hot but pretty tasteless - a real disappointment. The rest of the dishes were very good though so maybe I was just unlucky. I would probably not go back but would recommend people to try."
