Having enjoyed eating there in 2007 I was keen to see how it had improved... wrong! The menu was faded, unclear and incomplete. The amuse-bouche was bland, messy and soulless. The starter was fair though. The sorbet to cleanse the palate seemed like it had come straight from the cryo-chamber! Too tart and too volumous. My girlfriend had the steak which was good though rather pricey as I've had far better for far cheaper. My guinea fowl good enough but rather lightweight in taste and texture. No dessert For a place that is trying for a top-end feel with taster menus etc it fell well short. It needs a bolder menu and better informed staff to augment the experience. Felt like the emperor's new clothes. D-

I have been to this restaurant a number of times and was looking forward to my recent visit. However the service was so slow that despite still being hungry my colleague and I left rather than wait for another 30 minutes for pudding. We weren't offered any drinks after our first service or coffees. The food was nice but for the price remarkably average.

I visited Maiyango for a birthday meal for 2, table all booked via open table which was simple and easy. First impressions was that it was much smaller than anticipated although it was not much of a problem, the vibe was good and it was pretty full when we arrived. Ambience was lovely, all the staff were well on hand to cater to your needs they offered to take my coat and asked if we had any dietary requirements, that side of the restaurant was absolutely great. Food wise the portions were very small for the price they charged i think it was very overpriced, although the presentation was very nice. I am not sure whether i would like to come back again.

This is a great place to stay and eat in the heart of leicester. The service is friendly, prompt but not to overbearing. Makes it a relaxed warm environment to share with that special someone or occasion. . For that extra special experience ask for a booth; but be quick they hard to get. Can't imagine a poor meal, but haven't had the entire menu (yet!) Pretty sure you will be suitably satisfied with whatever you select. Thoroughly recommended

I absolutely loved this place. The tables were cosy and the ambiance felt like you had gone through a magic door and into a different country. All the cocktails are excellent and they will turn some of the alcoholic cocktails into none alcoholic cocktails if you liked the sound of them. I had the 9 course taster menu and it was a great experience being able to try most items on the menu. However neither myself or my mother in law enjoyed the vegetable presse, so I wouldn't recommend that dish. I would make sure that you have fasted before the 9 course menu as I started getting full half way. But other than the vegetable presse I would definitely recommend this restaurant for everyone, vegetarians and meat eaters alike, except children.

Ask for one of the intimate booths, full of cushions. They may be a little dark when it comes to reading the menu but they're very romantic and it's nice to feel as though you've been transported from Leicester to a Thai beach shack! The food was very good and the staff were wonderful; lots of vegi options and staff keen to cater for Gluten free, etc. It's pricey for Leicester but that means that you can have a great evening without the crowds. My only negative would be the cocktails as you need to get the classics right before you get too experimental...I just want a good Margarita; it doesn't need lemongrass, it just needs to take me back to LA ;)

Thoroughly enjoyed our food and would go again but it does feel as though the chef has taken a throw as many flavours at a plate as possible approach and hope some stick and that it will perhaps mask a lack of basic seasoning that did lead to some things being a a bit bland. The reason we would go again why I still think this is a good experience for foodies is you will find some combinations that work or get to try a variety of ingredients. Although please go back the drawing board on the sweet potato tempura, it was enough to make me order the dish on it's own but sadly disappointed. Service excellent (until the inevitable wait for the bill which we find to be true in all restaurants), nice warm bread and pallets cleansers.

not if you like meat well done. Ok, I know well done is not the right way to eat meat and my husband loved his rare steak but I'm squeamish and just can't cope with blood oozing out of my food. The last time we were here they coped with this well but this time the venison was charred on the outside but was very pink inside and blood poured out when I cut it so I couldn't eat it. Luckily my hubby has no such qualms and scoffed the lot. I did ask them to let me know if the chef had problems cooking 'well done' (I've had chefs refuse in the past) as if I'm not going to get it cooked to my liking I will order veggie, chicken or pork. So, if you are one of the awkward ones like me don't be tempted by the game!

We have just moved to Leicester and was told that Maiyango was a very good restaurant, however, we were extremely disappointed. The service was appalling. The food took ages to arrive and the waitress was best suited to McDonald's. To finish it, we were charged for two bottles of wine, instead of two glasses of wine. The waitress said ' oh we almost got away with that' ?!?! I was expecting an apology!!! This is not was you expect in a fine dining restaurant. Wouldn't recommend it to anyone. Hope this feedback helps. Thank you

To summarise our visit: The waitress didn't know what many of the items on the menu were and had to check with the chef. They brought out meat canapes when one out of two of us are vegetarian. The starters were bland and lacked seasoning. The potatoes part of the main and the chips ordered as a side were undercooked and raw inside. The surprise birthday treat/surprise cake/dessert i organised for my partner was forgotten about. I was told a manager would ring me the following day to discuss my complaints. Didn't receive a call. I was told the potatoes were undercooked as i must understand the kitchen is busy. I was asked to not leave a review. Waste of time and money. most importantly waste of a special occasion i can never get back.

I decided to book a table for myself and my Wife... we try to choose a top restaurant that will hopefully deliver a top evening. Once in, you are welcomed by a very warm and cosy environment, reminded me of a bar in Marrakech, with its bohemian style decor complete with colourful drapes and an atmospheric low lighting setting, wonderful! We ordered the set 3 course dinner, of which they were various mouth watering choices for all 3 course's. Food was superb, this was fine dining to an outstanding level. Leicester is not overrun with fine restaurants and I must say, I would rate it as one of the top foodie places here in Leicester. A very romantic and pleasurable evening and we will return, that is a must!

Went on a Monday so may partly explain the lack of ambiance - loud table near us meant we were subjected to listening to their conversation most of the evening. December menu restricted to 5/6 choices for each course of which some were unavailable. Overall impression of the food was positive but nothing truly exceptional that left us keen return. Desserts were very good as was the service. In summary, had expected more given the hype and price point.

I booked this restaurant for an evening meal and was excited at the prospect of a wonderful meal. The setting is nice but it was lacking in atmosphere. The staff were attentive with drinks and menus; they must take bulk seating times as you are made to wait while the tables are prepared and then discretely herded to the tables. I guess my disappointment is from not expecting this. We had three courses, my guests starter was a Stilton panoccota which was impressively flavourless. Our steaks were lovely but not cooked to our request. And the puddings were nice. Overall I was left feeling underwhelmed, perhaps my expectations were to high.

Came to maiyangos with an open mind but excited after reading great reviews! They didn't disappoint! One of my biggest concerns was that my partner is vegetarian. Normally restaurants don't have much of a choice but they really did cater both for vegetarians/vegans to such high quality! I did mention when booking the table it was for a special occasion & again we weren't disappointed. We sat in a private booth with beautiful silks drapped around us. The atmosphere was romantic, peaceful yet professional. They got a perfect balance between privacy and attentiveness. The cocktails, pallet cleansers to the main and dessert were such a wonderful experiences. The best place I've ever eaten! Thank you for a incredible memory & many more to come!

After several visits for lunch when dining on my own I decided to treat my wife for dinner on a busy Friday evening. The restaurant was packed with young people having a good time and though the tables were rather cramped the atmosphere was buzzing. While the price of the food was somewhat on the high side, the choices were interesting and combinations of ingredients unusual: overall making the whole experience a total experience. The couple next to us were young enough to be our grandchildren but engaged in friendly conversation and helped to make the entire night out memorable.

On the 25th of October I took my mother, wife a close family friend and her son for my mothers 80th birthday treat to Maiyango from the initial greeting and welcome at the door to the final moment we could not have asked for better service, all the staff were friendly and willing to help with anything. We started with some excellent cocktails while we perused the menu, something for everyone, we decided to try the six course tasting menu which at £32 was brilliant value, every course a delight and just the right amount. The wine selection was very good with a great variety of choice. I would highly recommend here for the food the service and the ambiance, all in all a great night out, we will be going again.

We went for lunch mid week to celebrate anniversary. Food was tasty, well balanced and just the right amount on the plate. The scallop starter was worth the extra £2.50 and the herby gnocchi with the sea bass main was especially delicious. The white chocolate and lavender sorbet was also very nice. The service at the start of the meal was very efficient and friendly but after a large party came in just after we finished our main courses, we felt somewhat forgotten and waited 45 minutes for the dessert order to taken and served. This meant we missed our slot for the cinema at 14.30. We did emphasise with the waiter as it seemed he was the only staff member running around to please everyone. Go if you have no plans and love great food though.

The occasion was my wife's birthday and the location was Maiyango in Leicester for their lunchtime menu. Not having been before I was slightly concerned that the prices might break the bank, however was very surprised by the £19.95 for 3 courses. There was certainly enough choice and the food looked fantastic and tasted even better. What's more the portions were sizeable enough to satisfy even the most ravenous. A great introduction and somewhere we plan to return to. Nice one Maiyango for living up to your reputation.

The food was very well presented but the service wasn't amazing. We wanted to have a drink with our meal meaning a bottle of wine but merely got water which seemed odd as this is not only an additional selling point for them but would have added to our meal. I ordered a cheese board and the cheese was cold . All cheese boards should have cheese served to room temperature. For my starter I ordered a risotto, it was ok but needed seasoning and more flavour as was quite plain. Overall its nice for special occasions but very pricy as most items have a supplements to them

This was our first time eating at Maiyango and we had heard very good things about it, however it sadly did not live up to expectations. We were under the impression that the restaurant offered a high-end, fine dining experience, this is something that is lacking in Leicester and I can only think of The Case as being billed similarly. Our experience, although amusing, was not one we would like to replicate. The staff were friendly but the service somewhat slow and haphazard and disorganised. The tables are wedged in tightly so I felt uncomfortable. The food was okay, if bland, but our major qualm was that the mains were cold and had to be sent back. Without us having to ask these were removed from the bill. Every cloud I suppose!
