We went there as a group of 5. The manager was quite accommodating. My friends were running late. So he moved the booking by half hour. The ambience and location of this restaurant is amazing as the decor is very cosy + situated at St Katherine's Docks (my fav place). Food wise - I thought it was not very authentic. I would not recommend it to my Indian friends. I would rate it as OK. Service - the waiter didn't seem pleasant. Perhaps he had a bad night. :/ Price - £30 per head Overall our experience was Fair!

The food, when it finally arrived, was flavourful and enjoyable. Unfortunately, the service rendered the entire experience unpalatable. While one of the servers was courteous and friendly, but the other was downright obnoxious. When taking our order he: told us we were ordering too many appetizers and began telling us what he would and wouldn't bring; looked everywhere except at our table while we were ordering; refused to bring two main courses for the two children in our party ("I'll just bring the second one you requested and they can share"); opened our wine, carried it over to talk to another table, and then wandered back to pour it. We also never received a 2nd bottle we ordered, as it hadn't properly chilled. We won't be back.

Feeling rather bored on a wet bank holiday Monday we decided to drive to st Katherine's dock where not only Mala resides but we could have a drink at the dickens inn. ...the food is good, not remarkable though. It was quiet there but we have been before when it's packed and ambience is ok. The service is v good and over all it represents value for money. The free liquors post dinner were v thoughtful Recommend Mala and we too will visit again...

Food good, but pricey Management however is very poor & as there are plenty of other choices in the area I would not return or recommend There are some good reviews on here - but also look at Trip Adviser, scroll down & you will see I am not alone in thinking poor management We presented Open Table dining cheque as part payment of our bill They refused to accept it even though the restaurant does not appear on the site as excluded The manager insisted he had told Open Table he would not accept cheques If there was a problem between the restaurant and Open Table then it was for them to sort out between them, rather than penalise a customer After I spoke to Open Table who told me they refund any restaurant that has a problem at their bank

Food was really good, quantity was ok. Service was ok but when it comes to bill , restaurant includes an additional 12.8% of service charge and call it optional. This is a shame. Establishment should not force customer to pay 12.8% extra if he doesn't pay attention to bill or if he feels a bit shy to go to you and ask for removing the charges. Paying tip is customer's choice and should be left to him/her.

Had a lovely meal here at the Bank holiday weekend. Food tasty and had some unusual, delicious flavours. Amazing big beers- Cobra Gold! We felt the waiter was a bit rushed and stressed- could have done with more servers perhaps at this time? He was very nice though and gave us a good experience. Mala is in a lovely position in St Katherine Docks, a maze of lights amongst the boats and near the river. Its a beautiful location.

This restaurant looks amazing on the website but in reality was disappointing. The seafood thali dish I chose was not very pleasant, the cod was dry and virtually non existent and the sauces not very pleasant. My partner had grilled chicken which was fine but accompanied by dry chips and dry vegetables. For the price you pay you expect better quality of food. I was also disappointed at the limited drinks menu, the website claims there's nothing you won't find from their drinks menu, I wanted cocktails but there was hardly anything to choose from. I had booked this well in advance so was really looking forward to it and came away wishing I'd just booked something last minute when I got to London.

Cooked from heart - food is absolutely delicious and fresh - you could taste all the flavours that come out of all food dishes. The food sample from the main lunch is massive, by the way - the food sample is where you are able to eat a selection of different curry dishes (about 8 small different dishes including meat and vegetarian dishes), with pilau rice. Select this one if you are indecisive and share between two people. Service was great - the only thing I did not like was that Pepsi was very flat, but this was sorted immediately anyway. Definitely coming back to this wonderful restaurant!

I went for lunch with my bosses on a nice sunny afternoon. I had been there many years ago infact I had my son's 1st birthday party in that restaurant so knew the food was good. I was very disappointed the service was very bad. They had only 2 waiters on the floor for the whole restaurant we had to wait 20 -25 minutes for each serving right from drinks to the final coffee and no one would even come and address or explain the delay. My bosses got late for the meeting with the clients and they were not happy about it. What was supposed to be a thank you lunch from me to them turned against me as I felt so guilty of taking them to a restaurant that I would never ever recommend or go again myself.

Nice table by the window for four of us. Popadoms arrived promptly but then we waited and waited and waited for main course while we drank two bottles of wine for the main course to arrive. We eventually asked if there was any chance of eating and the very unimpressive meals arrived. My Tandoori chicken was cold but didn't say anything and five minutes in the waiter asked my friend if his meal was okay. His lamb was cold too. They offered to reheat it but if was far too late for that and we were very hungry. In recompense a free bottle of red arrived on the table which was the last thing we wanted as we had already got through two bottles waiting for the food to arrive. Very disappointing.

Luke warm describes our overall impression of our experience here as well as the temperature of the food. Nothing was very wrong but nothing ( except the location ) was very good either. Main courses were just about warm enough to eat and so decided not to send everything back which would have been a lot with side dishes , rice ,breads etc. Popadoms arrived with the starters and my son thought the onion bhajis were the worst he as ever had and he has had a good few! Good mixed meat starter and kulfi deserts however. Expensive for what we got.

This restaurant is located in an ideal setting within St Katherine's Docks. The restaurant itself has a nice ambiance as soon as you enter and has a real spacious feel about it. The food is classed as standard and as an Indian I felt the food tasted fairly mild and a tad bit overpriced for what was offered to you. This is ideal for business meetings/work get together meals in the city but overall I would mark this restaurant as 'Average' especially the fact that Brick Lane is about 10 minutes away!

Well I booked the table for 8.00pm and by 9.00 we had finished the whole evening was rushed I hadn’t eaten one Popadom and my starter arrived and the main course was as rushed, it wasn’t even as thought they were busy as it was half empty (mind you that may be why) deducted the 12.5% service charge and left never to return. The food was fairly good but all spoilt by the rush.

We've eaten several times at this restaurant, and it has never disappointed in the past. Indeed, we always recommended it to friends and family who wanted a good Indian meal in a non-fussy, clean, reliable place. We invited our son and his girlfriend to an evening, and returned to London for the occasion. The meal was tolerable, but far below the standard (amount, price) that we'd received in the past. the service, the venue, and the friendliness of staff remain very good. Mala has lost (fr us) it's special status - ok, but not outstanding as before.

This recommended restaurant was clean, tidy and inviting. We chose dishes we knew, so we had a reference point on taste. My guest's meal was tasty, but she commented about how greasy it was compared with places she uses regularly. My korma was meant to be mild, but it was so mild that it had little taste, despite the lamb being beautifully tender. Instead of arriving piping hot, our food arrived just warm enough to eat, with the hot but greasy garlic nan. We should have sent it back for reheating, but we were politely British and carried on. Location into account, it was too expensive for what we got. Afternoon tea/different choice of main dish might have been better, as the location is fabulous. Would I return? Maybe, but not in a hurry.

My husband, my parents and I had a meal on Sunday evening at Mala. Whilst the staff were great - very attentive and helpful with explaining the dishes etc, the food itself was not as delicious as we had heard/hoped. There had been lots of advertising for this restaurant on LBC (radio station), so we were expecting great things. It was also quite pricey for what we had - I guess we were paying to location (lovely views) and the service!

Booked for our wedding anniversary on Valentine's Day and was not disappointed. The food was absolutely sensational and though it was not cheap it was well worth it for a special occasion. Nice location at St Katherine's dock and in agreement with other reviews which say there is a good ambience. However, I do not agree with some negative reviews of the staff as this was most certainly not our experience. We found the staff attentive, helpful and efficient and can find no complaint. In fact we made a new friend in Gladwin who went the extra mile to ensure we were well looked after. All in all an excellent dining experience which I would highly recommend.
