Diner Reviews
  • "Without doubt the best steak I have ever tasted and I have eaten steaks all over the world and in some of the best restaurants, but this beat them hands down. I just need to know the type of green salad lettuce the chef used as that was top class. I'll be back on my next London visit."

  • "We were rather disappointed. Everything was OK but expected to be more impressed. Maybe should have had steak instead we chose fish. Won't rush back!"
    dined on 16/07/2014
  • "We were expecting a wholesome steakhouse and instead had food that was less than appetising, Luke warm and looked like it was "one I prepared earlier" It wasn't cheap ,we had one course only with wine .Portions were poor and quality poor. We had family down for the weekend who enjoyed good cuisine and wanted to enjoy a good London experience ....this definitely did not fit the bill. Not an experience to repeat . Service also poor nd by the rime the sauce dor the stark came we had all finished."

  • "We love the convenience of the Steak and Ale House, when we have spent the day in London it is nice to have a meal before catching the train home. Being only a two minute walk from Liverpool Street Station means we don't have to worry about possible delays getting from the restaurant to the train. And most importantly, the restaurant serves great food at reasonable prices (especially if you take advantage of one of their offers) in a vibrant "city" environment, with friendly and efficient service."

  • "It's quite obvious this place runs exclusively on a bunch of different offers and deals. There is at least 5 different menus the waiters can give out. Be much better if the place offered just a reasonable value normal menu - instead of making it outrageously expensive then running endless 50% off and set meal deals."

  • "I was not impressed with this restaurant. As we chose the special meal for 2 deal, on arrival I felt that the staff were stuck up, placing us on a table squeezed between a pillar and the side of the bar. The options were sparse unless you opted to pay extra, which I did, as steak was not within the £24 per head option. I also choose 3 extra sides and we had 1 drink each. The bill came in at £84.00, which included a 12.5% service charge. The only way to have that removed was to ask them to take it off. This should have been the other way around, meaning they should have asked if I wanted to offer the tip. The staff member taking my payment had his backside in my face whilst I was sitting in my chair. I wouldn't recommend it"

  • "I went here for the first time and will never go back. I got seated 1/2 hour late and the staff were downright rude ignoring us. I had to ask numerous times where food was and this was treat with contempt. AVOID AT ALL COSTS"

  • "This was our second visit to marco Pierre whites steakhouse as the first time was very impressive, great food accompanied by great service, hence the second visit, but this time the waiter we had for our table was a huge let down as I can honestly say that I've had better service in a fast food outlet, his attitude was appalling. All said and done, the food was delicious and the general atmosphere is very relaxed. I would recommend this restaurant. Just not that particular waiter"

  • "Always enjoy coming to this restaurant. Even more enjoyable on a deal"

  • "Overall a lovely evening, the food was of a good standard but we have had better steaks, the service was excellent and we would return."
    dined on 21/03/2014
  • "I can't understand how this place is still in business. We weren't even able to purchase the set menu option that we had booked. The waiter just said no and that was that. We considered just walking out, but thought we'd stick it out as the ambiance is deceptively nice. I had to get up to get the waiters attention twice. The food was mediocre at best. I wish we had left and gone to the Japanese Canteen down the road to be honest. At the end of the night, we couldn't find the host/manager to get our coats, so we just found them ourselves while a queue formed near the door with no one to seat people. I am not really a foodie. I will eat at China Tang or a Chinese takeaway, but I won't ever come here again. It was almost comical it was so bad."
    dined on 18/03/2014
  • "The steaks and food taste/quality were extremely good, however the time taken to receive food, especially the mains when the restaraunt was around 1/4 full, took around one (1) hour or so. Maybe a ploy to have guests consume more drinks. Our evening started around 7pm and we only finished sweets by 11pm. The service turned the evening into a long one."
    dined on 11/03/2014
  • "I took my Mum here for Sunday lunch. The set menu choices are a little predicable, but cooked well and good value for money. The staff are exceptional. Great service and just the right level of attentiveness without being intrusive. The restaurant has a great ambience and while everything is done properly, it's not overly formal. Perfect for relaxed get togethers."
    dined on 09/03/2014
  • "I took my boyfried for Stake as a little thank you treat. He enjoyed his stake very much. I had the chicken which was well cooked and presented well. The selection of wine and cocktail was good. The service wasnt great, bit slow and not sure they are aware of the saying 'service with a smile'."

  • "Great mid week steak at Marco's East London venue, excellent service from the team, and VERY good value!"
    dined on 05/03/2014
  • "On taste, on service and of course on value as well. The steak was superb and star of the show throughout the three courses, closely followed by the sticky toffee pudding got to be one of the best in London...bravo!"
    dined on 04/03/2014
  • "We asked for a babyseat for our 2 year old - the first person looked at me like I was mad. It was only when I asked a 3rd member of staff that the manager came over and informed me that "we had 6 babyseats yesterday, but they have gone missing overnight". The service didnt improve much after that - they forgot one of the starters. Staff were leaning over us. Nobody poured the wine or checked if we needed more drinks. I also called the restaurant twice to organise a decorated plate for a special birthday - they didnt even bring that plate out with the desserts. Food was very nice, but the service was bad."
    dined on 23/02/2014
  • "Good food, excellet service, the 50% discount on mains makes for great overall dining value!"
    dined on 20/02/2014
  • "great food, had rib eye and it was lovely, good wine, fantastic service (even if they did make a mistake initially on the discount). One of my favourite places in London, unassuming, great food, great service, nice decor, good location and a 50% offer on great quality steak!"
    dined on 18/02/2014
  • "I was surprised that a such lovely restaurant was tucked away in small alley next to Liverpool St. It needs more credit. I started off with an onion soup which was good but the only deceiving part of the meal. But after I had the fillet which was OUTSTANDING. The quality of meat was perfect and the seasoning is undescribable. I finished off with an amazing toffee pudding accompanied by a clotted ice cream."
    dined on 13/02/2014
  • "Great deal on a Sunday lunch. And a good way to finish a late morning of browsing through petticoat lane market"
    dined on 09/02/2014
  • "Excellent restaurant, excellent steaks and so very child friendly, unusual for a quality restaurant who often look down on kids and infants. Our waiter Gilberto and the others were so pleasant & professional. 10 out of 10"
    dined on 07/02/2014
  • "Not sure this place would be worth the prices without the 50% off mains special. I get the feeling that it's more geared toward city expense accounts than "joe public". That said, the food was good, not excellent, and the service friendly but a little sloppy and slow at times."
    dined on 05/02/2014
  • "I have been here many time and the steak is always great,"
    dined on 05/02/2014
  • "Our first impressions on entering the restaurant were great, warm & friendly with Jak cartoons adorning the walls. The staff were great, attentive and helpful. Starter was good. Main course steak was a little rare for my tastes, my wife's fish pie was good, but the selection of vegetables was a dish of sprouts & a dish of peas - not much of a selection. Desert - Bakewell tart - disappointingly dry and short on flavour; my wife's cheese selection - 3 slices of Stilton - the choice there being "take it or leave it." With MPW's name and reputation we were disappointed and let down. The wow factor wasn't there at all. Would we try another one - yes, it should be better."
    dined on 02/02/2014
  • "Pub atmosphere. Went to celebrate 21st and would have liked it to be a bit more special."
    dined on 01/02/2014
  • "I didnt expect to have to pay extra for chips or mashed potato on the fixed price menu . Who would eat a main course of calves liver or steak without anything else on the plate ? The liver was slightly bland and deserved a sauce ! The chips were nothing special and the steak deserved better . My mashed potato looked like a thick white custard served in a very unenspiring bowl. It was runny and bland also ...not what I would expect of this standard of restaurant. The cheapest wine on the extensive list was still over £ 20 per bottle ( or did I miss one which was less ?) and when you add service on top it just becomes ridiculously expensive. The end bill was an eye watering £122 when dining for under £ 50 for two was the draw in !"

  • "Much improved from my last visits which were not great. New Manager who is making a difference."
    dined on 28/01/2014
  • "Had a couple of lovely meals here but this time my Tuna was really undercooked (when I had asked for it well done) and everybody else had nearly finished by the time I got my main meal. 3 of the starters were eggs benedicts and all were luke warm. Service was a bit slow and we had to wait for condiments etc and the food was being brought out at different times and not all starters/mains together. A bit dissapointing this time."
    dined on 26/01/2014
  • "The food was up to Marco's high standard but the ambience and service were not, albeit that they were still Good. And the location was not great."
    dined on 25/01/2014
  • "this is the second time we have dined here, and the conclusion is that the steaks are not all that."
    dined on 24/01/2014
  • "Portions were generous, ambience good. Service bit patchy as not enough staff though meant we could have a leisurely lunch. In hindsight, we should have had the steak like everyone else as the other main dishes of set menu could have been executed better. But we had a nice lunch nevertheless."
    dined on 21/01/2014
  • "Check your bill! they tried to overcharge us by adding champagne bellinis which we didn't drink! The sunday roast was awful, pork was dry, Beef was cold and way too rare Service was so slow, took over an hour between the entree and main Menu is misleading (looks like the sunday menu includes a drink, but this is not the case) When we complained about being mislead and the time it took, they were only rude back Would never go back"
    dined on 19/01/2014
  • "Good food and service. Even better cocktails. I have no complain :-)"
    dined on 18/01/2014
  • "Was a lovely lunch, the service was amazing but the room was very noisy which made it tough for my in-laws to hear the converstation."
    dined on 18/01/2014
  • "Booked this for a client lunch. The venue is smart and the service is excellent. The food is very good, and not just the steak, at our table we had a lot of fish and it was very good. Would recommend for a business lunch and return."
    dined on 16/01/2014
  • "We got the 3 courses for £23.50 offer from Toptable but when we saw the set menu it didn't quite did it for us. So we ended up taking the a la carte menu in the end. For starter, we had Carpaccio, which was dressed with a lot of sauce. For main course, we had Chateaubriand (£66 per 2) which was OK. Deserts were fine too. I remembered the "50% Off mains" deal I saw on Toptable but the restaurant refused to apply that to our bill. With a single glass of wine per person, we ended up paying £73 per head. For that amount, the food lacked that bit of oomph."
    dined on 15/01/2014
  • "The prices have gone up, the portions down and none of the frills or special touches which made this place our usual Sunday haunt. Charging £2 for previously free bread and then it being stale? Not good. Won't be going back"
    dined on 12/01/2014
  • "As a party of 8, following booking we received a message that a confirmation was required. When we called back nobody answered the phone - this happened 6 times until a stiff email obviously prompted someone to call us back. We should have taken the hint. Arriving at the restaurant, although there were plenty of spare tables, we were kept waiting at the bar. When we did get seated, the service was slow, waiters didn't manage to deliver the right food to the individuals who had ordered it and brought us side dished we hadn't ordered at all - and then included them on the bill, along with some wine which we equally hadn't ordered. So there had to be quite significant re-working of the bill. Not a pleasant Saturday evening dining experience."
    dined on 11/01/2014
  • "Had a great meal and just the right mix of smart, casual and elegant. My salmon was slightly over-done, but other than that I couldn't fault it. The steak looked amazing and the potted duck starter which my boyfriend had was to die for. Somewhat on the expensive side but definitely worth it for a special occasion."
