A word from Mari Vanna
Situated in the heart of Knightsbridge, Mari Vanna, home of the mythical Russian matriarch, bids you a warm welcome to her London outpost for a home-cooked meal and a cosy retreat.
Specialising in “babushka cooking”, the menu is replete with Russian dishes and influences from the former Soviet countries of Georgia, Ukraine and also offers an extensive selection of salads and lighter dishes displaying a liberal use of fresh herbs. Its generous and exquisite selection of tea-time treats, cakes and infusions, meanwhile, is hard to resist, and available throughout the day.
With extraordinary attention to detail, Mari Vanna transports each guest into the Russian home of a bygone era where shelves are adorned with matryoshka dolls, trinkets and tchotchke. Displaying true Russian tradition from top to toe, Mari Vanna is a rare find in London.

Initially opened in a private apartment in St Petersburg, Mari Vanna has sister restaurants in Moscow and New York.

Mari Vanna is a place to go for Russian food in Central London. By Russian I mean Soviet cuz there are some dishes from Georgia and Ukraine on the menu such as khachapuri and vareniki. the quality of the food is fine so as the service. I'd recommend booking for dinner during the week as weekends tend to be busy and noisy there. And remember that rich and heavy Soviet food should be eaten in moderation.

We really liked it here. The interior décor is stunning and really cosy feeling, without feel too close or crowded. The staff were all very professional, and spoke excellent English, but allowed my husband to try his Russian on them (he is learning and they were patient with his attempts!). The food we had was food - the blini and salmon starter and pierogi (pies). The mains are heavy but that is typical of Russian fare. We had some great cocktails and good wine. Not cheap, but it's Knightsbridge!

There are not very many places i would call my favourites. Mari Vanna certainly is on that short list. The atmosphere, food quality, and service all seem to be at the top level in this fine restaurant. I would also want to point out that Mari Vanna is equally great for business events as well as for those casual meals when you just want to feel cosy and relaxed.

Honest take on Russian cuisine. Good vodka selection with traditional chasers: herring, veg in brine (sauerkraut and cucumbers are the best), mini-pancakes with lightly salted salmon to die for, ox tongue with horseradish. Pirozhki absolutely fabulous, especially the ones with fish. Slightly below par (for their own high standards) on the soups (good, but not breathtaking), and I usually run out of steam for the main course (but the sturgeon, they say, is quite good, too). Lovely dessert and tea selection. Service is very efficient and friendly (although can't comment for the non-Russian speakers). Will return soon!

Very original decor, you don't expect to find this in Knightsbridge. I loved all the memorabilia, wallpapers, jams and furniture. Service was okay except we were reminded a few times the table had to be returned within 2 hours (in the end it was more than enough time and they didn't chuck us out when we stayed an extra 10 min). The let down for us was the food: the menu was tricky to navigate; we opted for a sharing platter: disappointing when the bacon came and it was 99% fat - but the staff graciously replaced it for more cured fish when we asked. Veal stew and beef stroganoff were underwhelming and bland given the price tag. Beetroot salad was the winner of the night!

It was a night out with my best friend. She is from Moscow, and heard many people talk about this resturant. The environment is very nice and comfortable. But food was very expensive and little. They have 2 hr turn around rule, we have been asked to leave even there are few table empty the whole time while we were there. The services not worth for that price.

We were two couples who had been on a Russian cruise together so we agreed to meet at this Russian restaurant for lunch. It was a very nice restaurant with background Russian music. The food was interesting and Russian perhaps a little on the expensive £30 for 3 course lunch - but the food was good and typically Russian. A warning the wine list is expensive, starting at £30 for a very nice Cote du Rhone, which was , admittedly, an excellent wine.

Fanstastic food in an amazing setting. The service was excellent, but the only thing letting the place down is the two hour limitation on the table reservation. Whilst it is understandable that in such a prime location that they turn the tables multiple times an evening, it does detract from the relaxed atmosphere. Still highly reccommended however!

Tonight I celebrated my birthday over an quiet and intimate dinner with my oldest school friend Ms Tylman. We arrived momentarily late but this made no difference to the extremely warm welcome we received upon our arrival. It felt especially nice that the manager remembered me from previous visits, which added to the warmth of the ambience. The wine was delicious, the food was to die for, it was SO AMAZING! Both Ms Tylman and I felt as though we had gone to Russian food Heaven! But to top the evening off, my dessert was brought to me with love, a candle, and happy birthday sung to me in Russian by the Mari Vanna team. I highly recommend Mari Vanna to anyone visiting London who wants to have an exquisite meal in exquisite surroundings.

Tonight Mr Barker and I joined Mari Vanna for a celebratory dinner upon his graduation into the Medical field. It was Mr Barker's first time dining at a Russian restaurant and it there will be many more occasions. I ordered the lamb and he, the fish. All of our selections arrived with perfect timing and presented with perfection. Again, the ambience and atmosphere was delightful and this has fast become my favourite restaurant in London.

We dined here after having dined previously at the Mari Vanna in Manhattan, New York. I must say, I prefer the London restaurant far more. As soon as we walked in, we were greeted by the most hospitable staff and our coats were taken. We were shown to our seats and we dined by candlelight in the elegance of a very classical and traditional ornate surroundings; we adored every moment. Despite the world outside those windows, you forgot where you were once behind those closed doors. So much laughter, intimacy, and a menu to die for! We honestly felt like we had come home, like we had become a part of a dining family. I highly recommend this restaurant to all!

I went to Mari Vanna for dinner with my mother. A friend of mine recommended this beautifully furnished restaurant in the heart of Knightsbridge. Very cosy restaurant with a nice ambience and outstanding food. The staff was helpful as it was our first time to eat in a Russian restaurant and we weren't disappointed. Together with our food we had a nice bottle of white wine going really well with the fish cake and the cod. We loved it and we're going to be back very soon.

The experience was fantastic. I was desperate for some homemade food, being so far from my home country and my family, and I brought along my Bulgarian friend - to indulge in the amaziness of Russian food. Mari Vanna didn't let me down. The food was perfect, indeed, and there's not much to say. It was a fantastic discovery for my Bulgarian friend, and a pride for myself. The interior and ambience are a loca mixture of 19th century and Soviet style but luckily these two styles treat each other nicely and live in harmony. The waitresses are all nicely dressed (having a habit to wear casual for fine dining, I was a bit worried about the waiters in suits) and their service is as smooth as their Kholodez.

I booked a table for 6 people on Saturday 31st May to celebrate my birthday and it was just outstanding. Beautifully decorated, comfortable seating, well-cooked, delicious food and lovely, attentive waiting staff. I can't fault this place and would eat there every week if I could. We all had such a great night and were made to feel so welcome. Being serenaded "Happy Birthday" in Russian is something I won't forget. Thanks so much! One thing I will say is that this place is more expensive than restaurants I would normally visit, but it's in Knightsbridge and it's worth every penny. Food-wise, I had a meat pastry, the Georgian flatbread, Siberian pelmeni, honey cake and several delicious vodkas. Thank you! I'll be back! xx

Took the lady for her birthday treat here. Nice to get a taste of traditional russian food. The food was well made, the place was decorated really well, especially the loos. The welcome was formal and respectful, but relaxed and pleasant. I recommend the horseradish vodka. The two minor quibbles would be a) our waitress made an obvious mistake by forgetting to bring us a dish, even though we asked twice for it, yet insisted we hadn't asked for it. Not what you expect, especially at a more classy venue b) the waitress recommended we order 3 starters and a main. I'm glad we ignored her advice - 3 starters was more than enough and we had enough left over to need a doggy bag!

Took a lovely Russian lady on a first date here after being told she had never eaten at a Russian restaurant in London after living there for 5 years. This was my first taste of Russian food and I'm very glad I chose Mari Vanna to experience this. The lovely Russian lady had all sorts of nostalgic memories of her childhood come to life here and had the opportunity to teach me all about the different dishes we tried with their importance to her upbringing. I can tell you, she was very happy. The quality of the vodka was also fantastic, it tasted so easy to drink which was very deceiving as I didn't expect it to come on so strong. It hit me like a train. Great food, service and staff; lots of fun!
