Diner Reviews
  • "This is a charming place to enjoy a traditional afternoon tea. Excellent food, good service and maybe a touch overpriced."
    dined on 24/08/2014
  • "A wonderful dining experience. Beautiful presented food, cooked to perfection. The dining room is historic and full of character. The service was superb."
    dined on 14/08/2014
  • "Had a wonderful meal with my wife for our anniversary. Lovely surroundings, lucky the weather was nice so we could have a pre-dinner drink in the gardens. Staff very attentive but not overpowering."
    dined on 30/07/2014
  • "If you want too impresses your partner then this is the place to go."
    dined on 19/07/2014
  • "The food was excellent, but we felt the menu offered less choice than last time we visited (Sept 2013). Service was adequate, not as polished as enjoyed before. There was a wedding reception in the hotel so perhaps this reflected on service expertise in the restaurant. Much less busy than expected, again perhaps due to the wedding, so many unused tables. We enjoyed the evening, but have enjoyed better there. We will give them another chance to "wow" us."
    dined on 21/06/2014
  • "We eat at this restaurant about once a month and it is always superb. Can't fault anything."
    dined on 14/06/2014
  • "Found the Mary Green through previous good reviews and it lived up to it's reputation, the food service and overall ambience of the Tudors restaurant was marvellous and a extremely good choice for a special occasion, we will certainly return to enjoy some of there wonderful cuisine and hospitality"
    dined on 14/06/2014
  • "unfortunately the food was disappointing. The children ordered the prawn cocktail and found it hard to eat because of all the chili in the sauce. Our party of 6 all found the main to be less than average. The meat was chewy, Yorkshire puds rock hard and vegetables uninspiring. All in all, less than average pub grub."
    dined on 08/06/2014
  • "Such a lovely place to go for a special Celebration. Customer service takes some beating. Food absolutely delicious. Top class ! Will definately be returning "
    dined on 31/05/2014

    dined on 29/05/2014
  • "Most enjoyable evening, but due to the price couldn't go back unless it was a very special occassion. All the courses were delicious. "
    dined on 29/05/2014
  • "This was about our tenth visit to the Tudors Restaurant and our third Tasting Menu. The food was sublime - the best so far - with the wine pairing further enhancing the flavours. Great service and lovely surroundings completed the experience. A really wonderful evening."
    dined on 04/04/2014
  • "Arrived and shown to the bar, nobody in the main area, eventually took order and the proceeded to wait for around 50min before being shown to table To my surprise there was 2 other people in the dining area Food good standard, wine good but overpriced A fair to good evening was had by my guests"

  • "We had a lovely lunch at Marygreen Manor for my mum's birthday. It is a beautiful tudor hotel/restaurant and cant wait to go back to try their afternoon tea. The food is top London restaurant standard. Anyone that goes there will be impressed."
    dined on 25/02/2014
  • "great food after a previous dip in quality at this place. some of the best desserts i've ever tasted, meat cooked well, excellent wine choices at reasonable prices if you look hard enough. fantastic building and a great dining room"
    dined on 07/02/2014
  • "The service here is very good , greeted straightaway and given the option to sit in the lounge and have a pre dinner drink or go straight to your table even when you are early . The ambience is calm and you feel you are not rushed . This is the second time I have been here for a special Occasion and I will definitely be returning. I love the pre course appetisers."
    dined on 07/02/2014
  • "Road works outside did not help but this is a nice venue with a goo ambiance and good food but let down by poor service. Perhaps the evening staff are better."
    dined on 06/02/2014
  • "Reasonable Sunday lunch had better, relaxing lounge area for coffee after a meal. Great looking hotel if you like oldie worldie."
    dined on 02/02/2014
  • "The pre-lunch drinks, before a roaring fire in the lounge, were excellent. We anticipated a fine Sunday lunch to follow, but were sadly disappointed. Prawn cocktail was far too sour to be pleasant. We then had roast beef or roast pork, but the meat was in both cases over cooked, and covered in tasteless gravy. The sticky toffee pudding had to be sent back because the bottom was burnt, but the replacement was little better. The iced raspberry parfait was so iced that it could hardly be eaten - clearly it had just come out of the freezer - but the chocolate gateau was very tasty. Our overall conclusion was that despite the grand and imposing setting, the standard of food and the standard of service were disappointingly low."
    dined on 12/01/2014
  • "We return to Marygreen from time to time to take advantage of its Sunday Lunch option - 3 courses with good choice of dishes served in a relaxed setting for just £23 each. Plenty of space to chill out before and after, giving time to appreciate the ambience and character of this historic venue."
    dined on 29/12/2013
  • "On arrival we found that seating was already reserved in the lounge near the fire place for our party of eight. This set a good atmosphere for a very enjoyable and relaxing evening. Food orders were taken without any hassle and service at the table was professional and perfectly organised. After meal coffees and drinks were again taken in the lounge and allowed time for reflection on a very thoughtfully and tastefully prepared meal. The decorations were elegantly traditional and the ambiance timeless yet contemporary. Our whole party was impressed by the amount of effort the staff put into the service and the food. We'll certainly be back for more!"
    dined on 24/12/2013
  • "We are a group of 7 ladies that lunch every 3 months and I chose Mary Green Manor for our Christmas get-together. A couple of us had been there previously for afternoon tea (again this was very good). We were given a round table which was great as we could all talk easily. We had a lovely lunch, the food was very good and there was plenty of it. The service was also great. After lunch we went into another room to have coffee. There were a number of people doing the same and the atmosphere was very jovial. We had a great afternoon and didn't leave until just before 5pm."
    dined on 13/12/2013
  • "A special night out gift for Christmas 2012 from our daughter and son-in-law. It took us 11 months to actually get around to booking, but it was well worth the wait. The food was delicious and presented beautifully."
    dined on 26/11/2013
  • "The ambience was very good the staff friendly but not bushy the service was quick the food arrived in good time and was very good we were offered drinks in good time a most enjoyable experience."
    dined on 26/11/2013
  • "We have been several times before, this was our most disappointing visit. Service was the biggest let down. We arrived 15 minutes early and were seated In the bar. The drinks order was not taken for a while and then we were offered no top ups and they forgot the complimentary nibbles until I asked for them. We were then not seated until 8:35 which was far too late considering the table was booked for 7:30. The food was very good but considering the tardiness of being seated and drink service plates were cleared for each course before the whole party had finished. My choice of wine was unavailable and water was forgotten despite being requested several times. Overall not to the standard we would expect especially considering the cost."
    dined on 26/10/2013
  • "Oustanding service right from our visit for drinks before our meal, celebrating my wife's birthday. Had the 6 course taster and wine selection.Immense textures, aromas and taste. Service was by very experienced staff. Outstanding ambiance."
    dined on 29/08/2013
  • "We visited the "Mary Green Manor" for our 22nd wedding anniversary as this was where we stayed the first night of our marriage (which was then called "The Moathouse") - we booked the restuarant through top table and was not dissapointed - the service/ food/ atmosphere was all fantastic and it felt like a real treat. Although it was a bit pricier than we would normally pay for a meal it was fully justified as it felt so special. :)"
    dined on 24/08/2013
  • "My husband treated me to the 6 course tasting menu and matching wines. Each course was presented like a work of art, was an absolute taste sensation, and the wine went perfectly. The staff were very professional and made us feel very welcome. I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for something a little bit special."
    dined on 23/08/2013
  • "You dont have to travel all the way to central London to have a proper 6 course tasting menu. All the right ingredients and perfect mix of dishes that fits the bill. I have been to many Michelin star places and they will charge £90- 100 for the same thing. Here you pay £48 which is very good value for money. Also the pairing of wine is only £27 which has 6 glasses of full sized glass! You can you say !! If you live in Brentwood, dont miss this gem."

  • "The Marygreen Manor is an impressive looking hotel and the Tudor Restaurant has a lot of character and ambience about it from the Elizabethan era. The menu had some interesting selections , in particular for vegetarians. The quality of the food was mixed - the beef was outstanding but the pre-starter combination of mushroom soup, chicken and octopus a little odd. The wine list was very good and not unreasonably priced. The service was good but a little slow in parts because there was only one waiter on duty.At about £50/head the dinner was not cheap but well priced when compared with other far inferior places in London. We will go again for that special occasion"
    dined on 07/08/2013
  • "On arrival, we were immediately struck by the beautiful interior which was matched by the tranquillity and beauty of the garden. We then adjourned to the dining hall which is a small Tudor great hall. Wonderful architecture and beautifully laid out, it made you feel that this was going to be special. It did not disappoint. Every mouthful was a delight, I had Diver Scallops and lobster followed by venison, which was delightful and would recommend to all food lovers. The service improved significantly from its initial slowness. We had fantastic time, and that made it worth it but, with drinks (a cocktail a bottle of wine and large brandy each) the bill was £200 including tip, not cheep but worth it for a special occasion."
    dined on 06/08/2013
  • "Grand setting and imposing place with a lovely hall. The staff are very attentive and look after their customers even though there is somehow a lack of personality in them. The food was good, it lacked that special attention. You can see that they cater for large parties."
    dined on 21/07/2013
  • "The best food in Brentwood with first class service. 10 out of 10. Good food Served on HOT plates, so many restaurants have cold ones. Would recommend this hotel to all my friends."
    dined on 28/06/2013
  • "Lovely service and a good menu. All the food was very well cooked (lobster canelonni & scallop starters and venison & steak mains) and complementary tasters were great too. Nice building with a reasonable atmosphere for a Wednesday evening, would recommend."
    dined on 26/06/2013
  • "it was a lovely meal and the service was truly excellent. The staff are very friendly, we had a very romantic meal and it was a lovely setting."
    dined on 22/06/2013
  • "Food, service and surroundings was either very good or excellent. The layout is also very good with a lounge area for pre dinner drinks, formal dining room and a further lounge for post dinner drinks. I have been to the Marygreen many, many times over the years but this was my first mid-week and I would not repeat that - my wife and I were the only people in the entire restaurant and one of two couples in the lounge afterwards which was a great shame."
    dined on 20/06/2013
  • "Excellent venue and outstanding value lunch menu with impeccable service. What more could you want."
    dined on 25/05/2013
  • "Had a meal with my girlfriend to celebrate a year together and was left with a bitter taste in my mouth, Food was average at best , fish overcooked and the spaghetti legumes greasy and limp, side vegetables were microwaved and not even seasoned or a trickle of butter was added , beer root Concass were like boulders of undercooked under seasoned disappointments . And the starters took 45 mins to reach us in an empty restaurant. very very poor . on the plus side the pigeon was spot on and the wine list very good , Don't even get me started on the fanned melon and mushroom soup amuse Bouche !"
    dined on 22/05/2013
  • "Perfect service and great food. Highly recommended."
    dined on 18/05/2013
  • "4 of us dined last Saturday and the restaurant was very beautiful. The building and its original features gave the evening a real sense of occasion. They have a good selection of wines and enjoying an aperitif then later on coffees, in the loung, was very good. That said, the bill was more than some Michelin starred establishments we have eaten at and whilst the service was pleasant, it was very 'hit and miss' and the quality of the dishes was not consistently high, which is what I would expect when spending £100 per head on average. Desserts and cheeseboard were both very enjoyable. I would possibly go back to dine but it would be at a push, however, I am very keen to try afternoon tea there as I hear that it is very good indeed."
