The two Michelin star, 5 AA Rosette Michael Wignall at The Latymer is a premier food experience. Describing his cooking as 'complex, carefully crafted and very technical but not intimidating' Michael's style has familiar classical themes with all flavours staying true to themselves.

You can expect to find dishes of his own creation alongside some old favourites such as his signature 'suckling pig' and 'praline sphere with earl grey pana cotta, caramelised blueberries and liquorice ice cream' dessert.Continued

  • "We dined on a bank holiday Sunday evening. The ten course taster menu was offered, and we very much enjoyed the quality and variety of it. We had a great wine list to choose from and a helpfully knowledgable sommelier. Highly recommended and a fairly good price too."

  • "My wife and I dined at the Latymer for lunch on the 22nd July. The food was very good, possibly not the wow factor that you get in other restaurants of this caliber, but certainly very good. The set lunch is extremely good value, especially with all of the extra courses we received. The 3 course lunch probably ends up being a 6 course lunch which, for £38, represents better value than can be found at other restaurants. The wine list, particularly wines by the glass, is very expensive. There are a limited number of wines by the glass and I found that the selection did not necessarily complement the menu on the day unless you are prepared to spend over £20 per (very small) glass. This significantly increases the cost and value of the meal."

  • "I have dined at The Latymer more times than I can remember and it NEVER fails to deliver. Outstanding service, adventurous cuisine that is perfect;y presented and overall probably my favourite place to dine for a special occasion in the UK at present. Was busier than I have seen for a while and found that our table of two was just a little too close to two other tables, made confidential conversation slightly more "hushed" but other than that, a perfect lunch."

  • "Amazing food and good service although lacking some of the personal touches I have experienced elsewhere. Every course was beautifully presented and flavours were intense. Only negative is the setting within the Penny Hill Park hotel. The restaurant would benefit from a seperate entrance. After a lovely dining experience we waited for taxi in foyer of hotel surrounded by foul mouthed party goers from one of the many events that seem to go on at the hotel which put somewhat spoilt the evening and made it feel not so exclusive."

While expensive, combinations of perfectly presented food like this are simply something you could not produce at home or at "normal" restaurants which means the value proposition moves to a different level (unlike, say , expensive steak restaurants)"

  • "I took my wife out for dinner at Michael Wignall's Latymer in Pennyhill Park Hotel and greatly enjoyed the evening. The food was of an excellent standard; every dish bar one worthy of a one star restaurant and the majority worthy of the two stars. The star dishes were the john dory and the sea bass main course from the market menu. The only missed note was the guineafowl main course, which was a bit rubbery and slightly unbalanced (but still acceptable.) The highlight of the evening was the standard of service from the engaging sommelier, who listened carefully to our tasted in wine and recommended us something that we never would have considered, but which we enjoyed thoroughly."

  • "From the moment we arrived the staff were attentive, friendly and polite. Dinner was a choice of two menus, The Taster and the Market. Ideally I would have liked to have chosen my own meal from a more traditional menu. However we both had the Taster Menu and the food was excellent. One very minor niggle was being asked three or four times by one over attentive member of staff how everything was. Overall an extremely pleasant evening which my wife and I thoroughly enjoyed."

  • "On arrival (a little early) we were greeted, our was reservation was confirmed and we were shown to a lounge for pre-dinner drinks. The grounds and ambience set an immediate precedent that a good evening was in store. Our table was in a secluded part of the restaurant, with a luxurious setting. All of the hosts were extremely professional, elegant and made us feel that we were VIPs. We opted for the taster menu, which was exquisite. Although each dish was small (as expected in a taster menu) the food and flavours were incredible. When I noted one of the dishes was not going to be my taste, the chef immediately prepared an alternative. The service was impeccable and the Sommelier was outstanding. A very recommendable experience."

The hotel and building itself is exceptional, the staff are the most attentive I have experienced without being annoying. The dining experience is very homely not like a typical restaurant, very peaceful and relaxing and the perfect ambience to enjoy some of the best food I have had and not being rushed at all, the staff are very relaxed, professional and the attention to detail is great. There was not one thing I could say that would be negative. A special occasion that felt special all the way through the evening"

  • "The ambience is the only thing lacking from this restaurant - perhaps the decor isnt to my taste and thats what lets it down it is certainly very cold at the entrance and the first part of the restaurant, which is a shame - the bar they have set up in a room also leaves a lot to be desired and we choose the main bar far more inviting and far more lively. The food however was amazing and our table had the 10 course dining experience, the service was as you would expect and the food rich but delightful."

  • "An altogether great experience, from the moment of arrival to the last sip of coffee. We were greeted with smiles and the car taken off to be valet parked. A champagne aperitif, sipped while we looked onto the beautiful garden, was cooled to the appropriate degree. We were celebrating a birthday and were given the elegant centre table. The food both looked and tasted exquisite, Every dish- and there were lots of extra 'dishes-before-dishes' - consisted of many flavours and textures. The birthday boy, usually a fussy eater, declared his turbot the best he'd ever eaten. Service was excellent, waiters who were professional and friendly, also helped to make this a special occasion."

  • "My husband and I ate here whilst staying at Penny Hill Park Hotel and we had a fantastic foodie experience. We opted for the 10 course tasting menu with 6 paired wines and I have to say this was the best food I have eaten to date in a restaurant. Each course was spot on in terms of taste, texture, size and visual impact and the wines went with the food brilliantly. We are keen foodies and have eaten in a fair number of Michelin star restaurants although this was the first two star restaurant we have visited and you could really note the difference between the food here and that which we had eaten elsewhere - delicious."

  • "What a fantastic meal we had at The Latymer on Friday 21st February. We chose the 7 course Market Menu and "splashed" out on the Wine Pairing also. This was an excellent idea. The food was amazing. Everything was delicious and so beautifully presented. The Sommelier and the Wine Pairing added an extra dimension, and my husband even drank the "stickies".! This was a special occasion, but when our budgets next allow us, I would not hesitate in coming back. We may even try the 10 course menu this time! I urge you to visit if you have not already."

  • "As expected the service was efficient and attentive. However equally predictably it was also slightly overbearing, verging on the sneering on one occasion. Unfortunately this seems to be a feature of high-end restaurants. That aside the meal was simply outstanding on every level. Genuinely interesting and clever taste combinations were matched by faultless cooking and presentation. All five of us had not a single complaint, with the possible exception of my wife who despairs at the profusion of foams in modern cuisine. At £35 per head for a six-course lunch it was also very good value, although expect to double that after drinks. We will definitely return."

Indeed I would put the tasting menu that we had on a recent visit above that of Noma (though it can't compete with the latter for pure Theatre). Its not cheap, but the quality is undoubtedly there. Try it."

I highly recommend the food experience. The only downside was the young man "in charge". After a mix up on our entry we waited far too long for a menu.-5 minutes He arrived,saying "I hear you asked for a menu! In Michelin star restaurants,we leave you to settle and then come to you". Not only is this inaccurate,at least from my experience,it was rude and an unacceptable approach. Why employ such pompous people that detract from the great work done in the kitchen and by the young,excellent serving staff."

  • "My wife and I went for a pre-Christmas lunch and to try out the Latymer as it's our nearest 2M star restaurant. We chose the 3 course menu which came with several other courses. Each course was exquisitely prepared and presented. I selected one of the cheapest wines an Argentine mabec for £38 which was very good. Why can't there be more wines under £35? Service was very competent and not intrusive or over fussy. Great value and super food but please Michael can you up the portion size a bit as some of the courses are too small and possibly without the bread we may have been still wanting at the end. More sweets needed in the sweet box, 3 is not enough for coffee and sweets at £6.50 each."

We had the 7-course Market menu, and my wife had the accompanying wines (I was driving, so had to forgo this pleasure!). The wines chosen by the excellent and friendly sommelier complemented the dishes perfectly and I was sorry that I was unable to share in the experience. The evening was wonderful - expensive, of course, but we knew that before we went. Definitely a venue for that special occasion!"

The depth of flavours, variety of courses and attention to detail in presentation was exceptional. In addition, the staff were very attentive and professional, adding to the pleasure of the occasion. The wine list was extensive, which meant the recommendations from the extremely knowledgeable sommelier were very welcome - and superbly matched to the food. We had the 10 course taster menu - each impeccably and stylishly presented and well explained by our attentive waiter. The highlights were the salted cod & scallop, the cassoulet of clams and the suckling piglet! We also chose the wine flight with our meal. Ali, the sommelier, was a gem - presenting us with some fantastic wines that complemented the courses and taking the time to explain each one. He was attentive, enthusiastic and charming. We chose the Latymer as it was a special occasion for my wife and I and it is almost on our doorstep. It is not cheap - but it was a culinary treat and we were made to feel special by all the staff."

Some lovely and unusual (for us non-Chefs) flavour combinations. We had the 10 course tasting menu and genuinely didn't have a course that disappointed. The staff were attentive and polite and enhanced the experience. It wasn't too stuffy and the room we were in had quite a few tables in it so there was a nice background hubbub and atmosphere. A really enjoyable and relaxed meal, wouldn't hesitate to recommend it for someone looking for a treat."

  • "I took my partner to The Latymer for his birthday. Pre-dinner drinks in the Ascot Bar with a live pianist. Beautiful decor and great service/ drinks. The restaurant itself wasn't over-flashy which was nice, more traditional decor which was lovely. We had a 7 course set menu and it was stunning. My favourites were the veal (which I don't usually like), the lamb (perfect!!), the popcorn dessert and the pistachio dessert. It was all beautiful. The staff were very nice and attentive and it really was first class service. We didn't stay in the hotel, but we wish we did!! It looked beautiful and every inch a 5 star hotel. All in all a fabulous evening and can't wait to return. Definitely recommend!!"
