Diner Reviews
  • "From the first moment of arrival to the getting into taxi to go home was just special and perfect. The hotel and building itself is exceptional, the staff are the most attentive I have experienced without being annoying. The dining experience is very homely not like a typical restaurant, very peaceful and relaxing and the perfect ambience to enjoy some of the best food I have had and not being rushed at all, the staff are very relaxed, professional and the attention to detail is great. There was not one thing I could say that would be negative. A special occasion that felt special all the way through the evening"

  • "My wife and I try and have a special meal if I have been away. We decided not to travel up to London and stay relatively local to eat something. We have been to many Michelin Star restaurants in various parts of the world and this was as good as any. Food was superb service excellent would recommend to anyone. Go and enjoy something special visit The Latymer!"

  • "The ambience is the only thing lacking from this restaurant - perhaps the decor isnt to my taste and thats what lets it down it is certainly very cold at the entrance and the first part of the restaurant, which is a shame - the bar they have set up in a room also leaves a lot to be desired and we choose the main bar far more inviting and far more lively. The food however was amazing and our table had the 10 course dining experience, the service was as you would expect and the food rich but delightful."

  • "An altogether great experience, from the moment of arrival to the last sip of coffee. We were greeted with smiles and the car taken off to be valet parked. A champagne aperitif, sipped while we looked onto the beautiful garden, was cooled to the appropriate degree. We were celebrating a birthday and were given the elegant centre table. The food both looked and tasted exquisite, Every dish- and there were lots of extra 'dishes-before-dishes' - consisted of many flavours and textures. The birthday boy, usually a fussy eater, declared his turbot the best he'd ever eaten. Service was excellent, waiters who were professional and friendly, also helped to make this a special occasion."

  • "Our first visit to the Latymer was generally an enjoyable experience. Unfortunately the restaurant was not very busy but the excellence of the staff made up for the lack of atmosphere. The food was excellent although the main courses would have been more enjoyable if a little larger but the extras unexpected and delightful. The glasses of wine were small and very expensive."

  • "My husband and I ate here whilst staying at Penny Hill Park Hotel and we had a fantastic foodie experience. We opted for the 10 course tasting menu with 6 paired wines and I have to say this was the best food I have eaten to date in a restaurant. Each course was spot on in terms of taste, texture, size and visual impact and the wines went with the food brilliantly. We are keen foodies and have eaten in a fair number of Michelin star restaurants although this was the first two star restaurant we have visited and you could really note the difference between the food here and that which we had eaten elsewhere - delicious."

  • "Lovely tasty lunch for two in the Latymer Room at Pennyhill Park. The whole meal was unhurried, the food superb and the service impeccable. What more could you ask for?"

  • "A wonderful anniversary lunch, possibly the best lunch we have ever experienced. Food absolutely fantastic, staff delightful. Overall a seamless experience, highly recommended ."

  • "What a fantastic meal we had at The Latymer on Friday 21st February. We chose the 7 course Market Menu and "splashed" out on the Wine Pairing also. This was an excellent idea. The food was amazing. Everything was delicious and so beautifully presented. The Sommelier and the Wine Pairing added an extra dimension, and my husband even drank the "stickies".! This was a special occasion, but when our budgets next allow us, I would not hesitate in coming back. We may even try the 10 course menu this time! I urge you to visit if you have not already."

  • "We dined her as part of our hotel stay and we were impressed with the overall service and quality and variety of the menu Presentation was superb. As a vegetarian i was please to see a full taster menu but I was not wowed by any dish. The matching wines were disappointing"

  • "As expected the service was efficient and attentive. However equally predictably it was also slightly overbearing, verging on the sneering on one occasion. Unfortunately this seems to be a feature of high-end restaurants. That aside the meal was simply outstanding on every level. Genuinely interesting and clever taste combinations were matched by faultless cooking and presentation. All five of us had not a single complaint, with the possible exception of my wife who despairs at the profusion of foams in modern cuisine. At £35 per head for a six-course lunch it was also very good value, although expect to double that after drinks. We will definitely return."

  • "The decor at the Latymer may not be to everyone's taste, being somewhat Olde Worlde, but the quality of the food is as good or better than anything I have eaten in Central London. Indeed I would put the tasting menu that we had on a recent visit above that of Noma (though it can't compete with the latter for pure Theatre). Its not cheap, but the quality is undoubtedly there. Try it."

  • "Weekday Lunch: Excellent and friendly table services, a knowledgeable and helpful sommelier and lovely food. the tables are well spaced and comfortable in the heart of the old house. Recommended"

  • "The intensity of flavours and sensations in the mouth were excellent. The lunch menu was well balanced. Presentation of plates and little extras were a delight. I highly recommend the food experience. The only downside was the young man "in charge". After a mix up on our entry we waited far too long for a menu.-5 minutes He arrived, saying "I hear you asked for a menu! In Michelin star restaurants,we leave you to settle and then come to you". Not only is this inaccurate,at least from my experience,it was rude and an unacceptable approach. Why employ such pompous people that detract from the great work done in the kitchen and by the young, excellent serving staff."

  • "This was for my partners birthday and did not disappoint. Met with smiles and champagne, escorted to our table and brought the most wonderful food and wine, I cannot recommend highly enough. Just fantastic!"

  • "My wife and I went to the Latymer for dinner to celebrate her birthday. The food was superb, and the service excellent. We had the 7-course Market menu, and my wife had the accompanying wines (I was driving, so had to forgo this pleasure!). The wines chosen by the excellent and friendly sommelier complemented the dishes perfectly and I was sorry that I was unable to share in the experience. The evening was wonderful - expensive, of course, but we knew that before we went. Definitely a venue for that special occasion!"

  • "We had the ten course tasting menu and it was truly outstanding. Each course was well presented and had a real depth and range of flavours and textures. he accolades and Michelin stars are well deserved and I would not be surprised if he is upgraded to 3 stars in the future I will certainly be visiting again"
    dined on 20/12/2013
  • "My husband and I dined there last Saturday. We had the Market tasting menue which was exceptional. Its hard to get a tasting menue right for the diner to enjoy all the courses equally and not to overload the palate. The ambience was wonderful and the service efficient and discrete. You pay for what you get - an exceptional experience! Highly recommended."
    dined on 21/12/2013
  • "My wife and I went for a pre-Christmas lunch and to try out the Latymer as it's our nearest 2M star restaurant. We chose the 3 course menu which came with several other courses. Each course was exquisitely prepared and presented. I selected one of the cheapest wines an Argentine mabec for £38 which was very good. Why can't there be more wines under £35? Service was very competent and not intrusive or over fussy. Great value and super food but please Michael can you up the portion size a bit as some of the courses are too small and possibly without the bread we may have been still wanting at the end. More sweets needed in the sweet box, 3 is not enough for coffee and sweets at £6.50 each."

  • "Had an amazing lunch here - food and service were exceptional. Have only marked 'ambience' down slightly as the room was on the chilly side - a shame to not be warm enough."
    dined on 11/12/2013
  • "Four of us had a delicious meal, tried new things that would not have contemplated before. Exquisite taste sensations, beautifully presented, superb waiting staff with very attentive but almost invisible (I.e. not disruptive) service. Faultless. Was by far the best meal experience I've had to date. Quite expensive but for worth every penny for the whole experience. Cosy dining venue, great lighting and ambience."

  • "Had a very enjoyable meal, really magical food with wonderful taste & flavors hitting the taste buds, if Micheal Wigmall were too change his job I am sure he would also be a wonderful artist. All aspects of the evening were most enjoyable & look forward to our next visit"

  • "The evening was a family outing to celebrate a fiftieth birthday. We had the 10 course tasting menu which was absolutely superb. The depth of flavours, variety of courses and attention to detail in presentation was exceptional. In addition, the staff were very attentive and professional, adding to the pleasure of the occasion. The wine list was extensive, which meant the recommendations from the extremely knowledgeable sommelier were very welcome - and superbly matched to the food. Overall an exceptional dining experience which we will remember for a long time. Pricey, but very well worth it!"

  • "Cosy venue in a very nice but large country house hotel. Proper but very friendly service which is very good. Food quite excellent and the best restaurant in Surrey. Tasting menu only which is great for foodies. A great place for a special occasion too."

  • "I took my wife here for our 20th wedding anniversary and I could not have been better pleased with the choice. The staff were very friendly, knowledgeable and courteous throughout our visit. The food is as you would expect from a two star restaurant, completely outstanding! We both had a fantastic evening and will be back."

  • "Heard about the Latymer in passing so decided to take a peak at the site, was immediately impressed & booking was a breeze. As my husband & I were coming from Australia we wanted a perfect 13th anniversary dinner. From the moment we stepped out of the taxi we felt like royalty. Staff at both the hotel & The Latymer were so gracious. Our waiter was the best we've had,the sommelier knowledgable & the floor manager obliging. From the ambiance to the food,it was the perfect evening. The food was presented beautifully & it was all so divine. Every detail was exceptional, but what really made our night was the staff, couldn't ask for better service & they were humble. Highly recommend The Latymer to all, only wish I didn't live so far away....."

  • "The atmosphere is formal but intimate. We arrived early but were shown straight to our table. We had the 10 course taster menu - each impeccably and stylishly presented and well explained by our attentive waiter. The highlights were the salted cod & scallop, the cassoulet of clams and the suckling piglet! We also chose the wine flight with our meal. Ali, the sommelier, was a gem - presenting us with some fantastic wines that complemented the courses and taking the time to explain each one. He was attentive, enthusiastic and charming. We chose the Latymer as it was a special occasion for my wife and I and it is almost on our doorstep. It is not cheap - but it was a culinary treat and we were made to feel special by all the staff."

  • "It's not a surprise that the Latymer has just won it's second Michelin star, the food was stunning. Every dish looked and tasted fantastic. Some lovely and unusual (for us non-Chefs) flavour combinations. We had the 10 course tasting menu and genuinely didn't have a course that disappointed. The staff were attentive and polite and enhanced the experience. It wasn't too stuffy and the room we were in had quite a few tables in it so there was a nice background hubbub and atmosphere. A really enjoyable and relaxed meal, wouldn't hesitate to recommend it for someone looking for a treat."

  • "I took my partner to The Latymer for his birthday. Pre-dinner drinks in the Ascot Bar with a live pianist. Beautiful decor and great service/ drinks. The restaurant itself wasn't over-flashy which was nice, more traditional decor which was lovely. We had a 7 course set menu and it was stunning. My favourites were the veal (which I don't usually like), the lamb (perfect!!), the popcorn dessert and the pistachio dessert. It was all beautiful. The staff were very nice and attentive and it really was first class service. We didn't stay in the hotel, but we wish we did!! It looked beautiful and every inch a 5 star hotel. All in all a fabulous evening and can't wait to return. Definitely recommend!!"

  • "I obtained a last minute booking for this restaurant and was dining out on my own. I was made to feel very welcome and was well looked after throughout the whole experience. I opted for the 7 course tasting menu with matching wine and each course plus wine was professionally presented to me by friendly and knowledgeable staff, the portion sizes were just about right and each contained an absolute delight of flavours, textures and colours. The atmosphere was relaxed for what would be considered quite a formal occasion and the restaurant itself was warm, inviting and grand yet with a homely feel. I would highly recommend the Latymer and feel is it worthy of its numerous awards. I will be taking my partner there in the near future."

  • "The food was outstanding, very inventive, beautifully presented and of the 10 courses, 9 were wonderful, 1 just so-so. Pretty impressive as there was no choice The only drawback is that because it's pricey, the restaurant was full of couples and a little on the quiet side, so the atmosphere was slightly rarefied. Perhaps a little bit of music would have helped. I felt that other diners could overhear our conversation and felt obliged to talk rather softly. The loos are a long way from the restaurant! Otherwise perfect and I will be back"
    dined on 11/10/2013
  • "The food was generally very good and a couple of courses were outstanding. Unfortunately the experience was let down by the service. With the exception of the head waiter, the staff were inexperienced and lacked confidence. As a result, the service was cold and matter-of-fact, building no rapport and not making us feel like welcome guests. The wine servings were very small and when we asked for a second glass with one of the courses (which we would have been willing to pay for), we were given the dregs of the bottle before being reminded that there would be more wine with the next course. Having dined at many of the top restaurants in London, I can be very confident in saying this is not what top-rate service looks like."

  • "It was a very lovely dinner, the food fantastic, interesting combination of flavour. I recommend this restaurant."
    dined on 28/09/2013
  • "Excellent food, really high class, wonderful flavours and good value but if one of a party of two is a non or modest drinker then lack of half bottles on wine list means ordering wine by the glass (100ml only). Our drinks bill (2 glasses rose champagne, 1 glass white, 2 glasses red plus bottle still water) was 15% more than the food. Wines were good, appropriate but not exceptional. On balance though the drinks cost took the shine off a great lunch. Perhaps not enough to put one off going again but maybe the restaurant should think about the choice available."

  • "We went on a Tuesday for a birthday meal. Went for the 10 course tasting menu and every mouthful was an amazing explosion of delicious flavours. The venue is in a lovely setting and the staff were very warm & accommodating. Overall one of the best meals I have had what a wonderful birthday present."
    dined on 24/09/2013
  • "We went there to celebrate my fiance's birthday and as usual the food, experience, and service was fantastic. We always have tasting menu and this time we went for accompanying wine selections. The wine selected for each course was just perfect. I've never tasted rabbit so tender, Stilton so silky and served almost like an ice cream with crunchy walnut biscuit... the amazement just goes on and on. Each course is just beautiful to look at, smells incredible and sensational to eat, The Latymer never fails to impress us."
    dined on 17/09/2013
  • "We were celebrating our 9th Wedding Anniversary and decided to go to the Latymer. We were not disappointed, the three course lunch for £34 each almost becomes a 6 course with some excellent Amuse vouches in between the courses. Highly recommended!"
