A word from Moti Mahal
Moti Mahal is the chic London outpost of the celebrated Delhi restaurant which opened in 1959. ‘An unexpected delight’ (Harden’s guide). Inspired by the culinary roots of North India's Grand Trunk Road; Chef Anirudh Arora has created time honored dishes and recipes, by accentuating new tastes and flavors from India's richly woven history, the new menu at Moti Mahal is a feast for the senses.

Attentive service and casual, elegant surroundings; the ideal treat before or after any show in the West End.

Diner Reviews
  • "This restaurant consistently offers excellent food and during the pre-theatre time excellent value . The service is courteous, helpful and efficient. Colleagues I have taken there usually go back!!!"

  • "Sensational food. Spiced to perfection. Friendly staff, not overly attentive. Stylish decor. Very pricey but careful sharing of the portions will work."

  • "Outstanding food, great service. Highly recommended!"

  • "Excellent as always but need to work on delivering either better value for money or better deals as the menu is probably the priciest Indian in London at the moment, worth it but only just."

  • "Excellent quality, friendly and knowledgable staff. Perhaps a bit on pricey side but then this is Central London!"

  • "I would definitely recommend this to Indian cuisine lovers, even if it is pricey. Moti Mahal have fine-dining to a tee and an amazing cocktail bar (cucumber G+T anyone?) It's in a brilliant location near the centre of Covent Garden and an open kitchen keeps it modern and interesting."

  • "Moti Mohal provides a superb fine dining experience. The food is top class with flavours combinations that deliver a really delightful gastronomic experience. The staff were friendly and attentive and give you sufficient information about the food and drinks so you can make informed choices. The ambience is relaxing and other parties who had children seemed to be well accommodated. I will be visiting again for other special occasion since the prices are a tad too high for this restaurant to be my regular."

  • "This was my very first time eating Indian out (besides the buffet places, which don't truly count). Having not been a massive fan of Indian I have to say I did enjoy my experience. Everything served in front of me was not only palatable but very delicious. The restaurant was a perfect setting for a romantic evening with my girlfriend for our anniversary. I did feel that the drinks menu was quite lacking as it catered more to the wine and champagne. No touch options for anything else. Although the portion sizes are good I feel that for the amount we paid the restaurant is a little bit on the pricey side. However, you are paying for great service and good food in the heart of London. The staff are very attentive so no complaints at all."

  • "We had an excellent, relaxed lunch. Food was outstanding with some great wine."

  • "Had a nice evening meal here. The service was excellent, the free indian salad was a nice touch. However the portions were very small and the meal was expensive for what we had"

  • "We took party of seven there, including three restaurant-savvy children. Food, though a little on the pricey side, was excellent. As we often do, we ordered many dishes to share and ate until full. Service was attentive and dishes were coursed with perfect timing. Will certainly return. And unlike a certain longtime Indian restaurant in Piccadilly, kids ARE treated like guests here and are not required be out of the dining room by 8pm. "

  • "Service good maybe a bit too much attention from staff, food excellent however over priced @ nearly £150 for two people "

  • "food was excellent but the restaurant appears understaffed and service was slow and unresponsive."
    dined on 19/05/2014
  • "We were really looking forward to something special and very tasty but despite the hype, the actual dishes were hot without being spicy and with only one exception, mundane. Of three Indian meals this weekend , this was the most expensive and the worst by far!"

  • "Moti Mahal was recommended to me by a colleage. I was taking a group of people here and some of them have never eaten Indian food before. Everyone loved the food but were quite shocked by the bill. Definitely should have done some research before going."

  • "1) Menu choices - There is no good choices of food. But, they have lot of cocktail and wine collection. There is a tasting menu option Veg - £45, Non-Veg - £55. The food was bland and mediocre. There are lot of tasty indian take aways outside. After you place the order, they give some whole vegetables ( 2 tomatoes, bunch of radish, some green leaves) and they it is a complimentary. 2) They served papdi chat with the tasting menu. Actually, the chef need to learn how to make papdi chat. They dipped 2 piece vada in yogurt and call it as papdi chat. Horrible. 3) Finally the bill arrived for £110 with £2 extra charges. When questioned, the waiter said it is as per the company policy. The Worst Indian restaurant."

  • "We were visiting London from the States and this lovely restaurant was recommended to us by a friend who had dined recently. Upon arrival, we were seated at a very small and not overly comfortable table for two. We noticed a table set for 6 infront of a window and about 30 minutes later the table was split into a table for 2 and table for 4. We asked to move to the table for two and they were extremely gracious and helped us make the change. We had a wonderful evening of outstanding food, outstanding service and a terrific bottle of wine. I highly recommended this restaurant and look forward to an opportunity to visit once again."

  • "I visited Moti Mahal with my partner for a pre-theatre meal. We chose the £23 for three courses plus a house cocktail offer. The service was a very attentive and helpful - we informed them of our deadline to exit and they accelerated the meal to accommodate us. A DIY Indian salad came first (very interesting, too salty) followed by a chaat dish (slightly too creamy) and a chicken tikka (again, too salty) which were both very tasty. Main courses of lamb (rich and tender) and prawns (spicy and juicy) were served with delightful rice and the best naan bread. Buttery, light, soft without a hint of greasiness - absolutely perfect. We didn't have time for the third course but still got good value for money!"

  • "My wife and I had lunch at Moti Mahal for our wedding anniversary. It was fabulous...all round. We shared both the vegetarian and non-vegetarian tasting menu with matching wines. It was some of the finest indian food we have every eaten. "

  • "Great place, good atmosphere, good for client dinners."
    dined on 28/04/2014
  • "BUT... If you want the freshest of fresh, the nicest blends of beautiful Indian flavours without being belted by chilli, oil,and colouring then this is for you.... BUT at a price ! We loved it !"
    dined on 26/04/2014
  • "I like Moti Mahal - the food is great, and the set pre-theatre menu is great value. But the waiters are poor. Last time, they got my order wrong. This time the waiter knocked over a glass at an adjacent table which smashed on the floor."
    dined on 08/04/2014
  • "We really liked the ambience of the restaurant, very serene and beautiful. In hindsight, pretty empty--- probably because of tne ridiculous prices, the miniscule portions in relation to the price, the slightly friendly but pushy staff that "suggest" a little too eagerly.....and honestly, not the most interesting combinations of flavours......"
    dined on 03/04/2014
  • "Delicious food and attentive staff. When I confirmed our reservation I asked for a nice table for my husbands birthday and we were seated at the glass screen into the open kitchen which was very interesting. We had a wonderful meal and particularly enjoyed the 3 different types of tandoori chicken."
    dined on 28/03/2014
  • "Great service from the staff. The food is very, very expensive though."
    dined on 25/03/2014
  • "I have always liked this restaurant; it offers something a little different from the pre-starter to the desserts. The restaurant is stylish and elegant, and the menu follows a journey across India. It price is not cheap (we spent £170 for three of us - but that did include cocktails!), but the food is delicious and I will be going back !"
    dined on 22/03/2014
  • "A friend and I went for the set menu with a free cocktail. The food was generally good. Nicely sized portions and their "cut your own salad" starter was interesting. Service was pretty good, there were small fruit flies in our cocktails... but the restaurant replaced these and were very apologetic. It happens. Good location for the theatre."
    dined on 22/03/2014
  • "We had the tasting menu with wine included in March 2014, at £70 a head for the vegetarian option. Although the food was ok, it wasn't brilliant - nothing was very unusual apart from the morel mushrooms, and you could get a lot better in many other central London Indian restaurants. With 3 small glasses of average wine, this is very bad value for money."
    dined on 20/03/2014
  • "went for a weekday lunch...had planned to get the tiffin set lunch to get a variety of food, but was told that the whole table would have to order it or we'd have to all go a la carte. disappointing, as we didn't see the reason why. if one person came in and wanted the tiffin lunch, wouldn't that be possible. the a la carte dishes were tasty, but pricy and very small in portions for the 16-24pound mark. overall, the service is very attentive and a lot of detail has gone into the restaurant, including the salad with spices that comes with the cover charge. but i wouldn't go again without a special deal because of the prices/portions ratio."
    dined on 18/03/2014
  • "Great food, but ask to sit upstairs or you'll be put downstairs which is plain and if you're unlucky next to a door to an office. Service good but sometimes slow. Food so good overcomes shortcomings - but with a bit more work this could be outstanding"
    dined on 15/03/2014
  • "Very nice atmosphere and interaction - food tasty and wonderfully served up with an understated elegance that makes clear they value you and they enjoy what they do - well done all round !"
    dined on 07/03/2014
  • "Came here on recommendation of a friend who had been to the main restaurant in Delhi. The waiters downstairs, where we were seated, didn't understand anything we were saying. Ordered two aperitifs which didn't arrive for 40 mins. We got our starters after an hour, still no sign of aperitifs. Asked again and the waiter just said oh they are upstairs, I have to get them. They finally arrived but the waitress had no idea what was what so disappeared again to check. We couldn't taste the drinks though as the food was so spicy. Main courses nothing exciting, was ill straight away. Called the manager and he told me that nobody else had complained! but he did take deduct the drinks and the prawns from our bill so that was something."
    dined on 27/02/2014
  • "I have tried all the amichelin starred restaurants in London and Mori Mahal is my favorite. The food- every single dish- is very tasty and the service is excellent. I will return soon."
    dined on 25/02/2014
  • "We went with friends for a Saturday evening dinner. The food is good and not overly expensive, wines are pricey but there are reasonable options. The main issue was that our waiter made suspicious mistakes to drive our consumption up. Also the, the timing of the dish delivery at the table wrong. Overall, the service spoiled the experience."
    dined on 22/02/2014
  • "Set meal was great and very good value. Only issue was that we requested a table upstairs as we prefer the ambience there but where allocated a table on the lower floor on arrival"
    dined on 17/02/2014
  • "I went in this restaurant around five years ago, and was and amazing dining experience, so I was looking forward to come back. First of all, after my booking, they call me three time for my credit card number ( I think it was quite rude); than they forgot to bring us the pre- starter, that was in the menu. The food was quite good, but the experience not."
    dined on 14/02/2014
  • "I went with 3 colleagues. Good flavours, and nice atmosphere. However, 2 problems with service - took a long time for food to arrive, and when it did arrive, the orders were a bit wrong. We ordered 2 chicken and 1 lamb. Got 2 lamb and 1 chicken. Didn't ask for it to be fixed, as we had waited some time for the food. Would go again, but confirm the order."
    dined on 06/02/2014
  • "A revisit, having had a very good experience here last summer. We have enjoyed cooking recipes from the Trunk Road book and were looking forward to our visit. Food was good but not as good as before. Good traditional Indian food, not messed around with. Service was poor. Not only slow but the two waiters looking after downstairs did their best to avoid any work. I had to go up to them to ask for the bill. As we left, no-one asked if we had enjoyed the food. Seems they don't care any more."
    dined on 04/02/2014
  • "great for Indian food with a different touch, nice mix of traditional recipes with unusual ingredients combination"
    dined on 04/02/2014
  • "Excellent restaurant. Food was fantastic. The halibut was the winner, closely followed by the aubergine steak although all dishes were very good. Can recommend the flower mojito. We sat upstairs which had the right atmosphere. Downstairs seemed far too quiet but just maybe because there were not many people and felt sorry for the couple on the table right at the bottom of the stairs. Staff were very professional. I can't recommend this restaurant highly enough."
