Diner Reviews
  • "Although the quality of the food was good, the service could have been better. We were a party of seven having a meal in our lunch hour and there were two noticeable gaps of 5 minutes between servings, meaning that three of us were practically finished as the last two started their meals. Shame as the waiting staff were very pleasant indeed."

  • "I've been going here on and off for about 25 years now...when I first went, it was a novelty restaurant where you could wathc the chefs tossing the enormous pancakes. It was quaint with a soothing, intimate atmosphere. Now it's noisy and bustling; not bad, just different from previously. However, two on us jumped on us the moment we sat down asking were we ready to order. We asked for a minute, and got much more! In the end, I had to call one of the wondering waitresses over. When we did get our food, one meal took much longer to come...not acceptable at all! The food was good, and as always, a good price for London, however, the staff were unprofessional and sullen! What a shame My Old Dutch!"

  • "Its great to see this little restaurant still thriving. I used to go there all the way back in 1978 because it took luncheon vouchers and never minded counting the 100 or so 15p vouchers we handed over. Great little fun restaurant, huge pancakes, plenty of choice of toppings. Guarantee you wont want to eat for the rest of the day if you have one for mains and one for dessert."

  • "This was my third visit to the restaurant and every time service just got worse. We ordered two of the same pancake, only one made it to the table and we ended up waiting for the second one until it was completely cold. Then we were offered a new pancake to replace the cold one but instead they just reheated the same pancake and it was soggy. I ordered butterscotch pancakes with maple syrup and butter, there was barely any syrup on it, and when I asked for more maple syrup I was told it's extra charge and received stroop syrup instead. We also had to wait over 20 minutes for a jug of tap water. And during our entire visit which was about two hours, no one approached us to check everything was good (and it was not...)."

  • "We were visiting from the States and a friend recommended My Old Dutch..we went for dessert one night...we loved it so much we went back 2 days later for dinner and dessert..."

  • "I kid you not when I say these pancakes are the BOMB. Butterscotch especially. I'm not exaggerating when I say every person in our 8 man booking loved My Old Dutch. The waitress was really nice, except for a minor time delay in the order. Amazingly decorated, nice setting, perfect seating designs. The place is just...PERFECT. Would 100% recommend to anyone and everyone."

  • "I asked my boys whether they wanted chinese or pancakes for lunch. On describing how big the pancakes are, their eyes went wide. We've been to My Old Dutch several times and this is my first review. Consistent quality of food and service over the years and, knowing they are family friendly, I was happy to commit to this and booked a time slot. They get busy too. We weren't disappointed and the pancakes were just a bit too large for 13 and 15 year old boys. They loved it, so thanks My Old Dutch."

  • "The previous times I have been to My Old Dutch have been great; good food, good service. This time, after we ordered our savoury crepes, we ordered proffertjes, one order to share between 4 of us, we were waiting over half an hour. When we asked what was taking so long, the waitress pointed to a big table next to us and said the kitchen was busy, as that table had a large order. After waiting a little longer, and realising that no one on the big table next to us had their food yet, we decided to cancel the order and go elsewhere. It was disappointing that the kitchen staff were unable to manage their time. I have usually had a good experience here."

  • "Really really busy - busy location! Staff were over stretched but nice. Every table was full by 12.30. Good Dutch pancakes. ...excellent GF pancakes available on almost every alternative. ...fantastic"

  • "Good tasty food, despite it being very busy the food and service was prompt"

  • "I last visited in the 1980s when I was a student. The food offering is still unique at good value for money prices."

  • "MOD does not live up to its rave reviews, my friend and I found. We went in for a waffle with banana, choc sauce, nuts and cream & got more banana than anything else. It was more disappointing that I've tasted better waffles off a packet from Tescos. Additionally the service was abysmal. First and last time I go there."
    dined on 10/06/2014
  • "Pretty keen to get you in and out as quickly as possible whilst making it quite evident, despite the restaurant being quite empty at the time. Was given a table right next to the cashier and 2 other parties were sat right on top of us despite there being plenty of room. Food was fine but service was poor, I was also unhappy that a service charge was added to the bill despite it only being a party of 2, something to catch the tourists out I guess..."

  • "My Old Dutch is somewhere to go for lunch/brunch, a quick pre-theatre meal or with a group of friends. It has quite a noisy and informal ambience, so not somewhere I'd recommend for romance. The choice of toppings is immense and the pancakes themselves are huge! They also do all their pancakes gluten free if required, not just a restricted menu which is a bonus! "

  • "We enjoyed a lovely meal at My Old Dutch in Holborn. The service was brilliant and the staff were very helpful and accommodating. I would certainly recommend this restaurant. Thank you."

  • "I came here with some friends and family for a birthday meal. It did not disappoint and was a fun experience! The range of pancake toppings was extensive and our savoury pancakes came on massive plates. We were all pretty much full up after our 'mains' and all enjoyed them. But we also shared a dessert pancake which was very tasty as well. Service friendly and very prompt. Seating a little on the squashed / uncomfortable side, but didn't detract from the experience. Would definitely come again if, say, friends were visiting London as the novelty adds to the enjoyment."

  • "We visit My Old Dutch whenever we are in London and have been going there for well over 15 years. Always good choices, good service and wonderful food. We can highly recommend it."

  • "Pancakes. Bacon. scrambled eggs. what more do I need to say! I chose the Chelsea branch, it was lovely day and it was the less busy location, we had a nice walk up Kings Road and enjoyed our meal very much, my friend ordered the savoury chilli pancake and I ordered pancakes, bacon/eggs and we split them so we can have the best of both, really nice and filling, she even went onto have dessert but I was too stuffed."

  • "My sister and I have been coming to My Old Dutch for many years. The food's great, the atmosphere's great and the service is too!"

  • "Booked well in advance and told them of the need for a high chair, when we arrived there was only one and someone else was using it. Table cloth was ripped, service just about reached adequate although the inability to follow a specific request caused some of the staff to lose the power of speech when it was pointed out to them. The food was very nice, except the kept running out of things, how can you have a Mother's Day promotion and then not have sufficient desserts? When we refused to pay the service charge it took two of them 10 minutes to change the bill. The problem is that there is no one senior in charge and the muppets run the show"

  • "We've been to many dutch pancake houses - so it was a treat to find that this has stayed true to the originals. Bright & welcoming & a good variety on the menu - we'll definitely be visiting again"
    dined on 22/03/2014
  • "We arrived 10 minutes early and our table was ready. The restaurant was quite full, but we were given prompt and friendly service throughout the meal. I'm glad they now have smaller options, but it would be nice to see it extended to desserts. We couldn't resist a dessert, but neither of us managed to finish. (Getting older plays havoc with your appetite!) Food delicious as always. Just wish we lived nearer so we could go more often."

  • "Definitely can't complain about the portion sizes or the quality of the food. Good menu selection and went home stuffed. Not the cheapest meal out I've had when the bill came through, plus I always find it a shame when restaurants put on an optional service charge on the bill. It's always steep at 12% and whilst I realise it's optional it always leaves me feeling more forced to tip rather than tipping for good service. But that's just my opinion."

  • "I was extremely disappointed with the service myself and daughter received from My Old Dutch. Firstly despite fact that I pre-booked they had no details of my booking made no attempt to check. We dumped on a table that had wobbly legs. We ordered starters of fritters it was not cooked properly when we complained just got a shrug of the shoulders. My daughter had sweet pancakes and I ordered savory. She finished her pancakes mine took almost 40 minutes to arrive despite me constantly chasing them. By the time it arrived I had lost my appetite and hardly eat it. I will definitely not be returning and will make sure I let everyone know of my bad experience. Not a happy bunny my daughter was equally disappointed."

  • "I was impressed by the large variety of pancakes and dishes they served (and the coconut beer!!!!). So much so that I can't wait to visit again and try something else in the menu. Anthony"

  • "This restaurant specialises in pancakes with toppings similar to what you might expect on a pizza. I went for the hot Dutch with pepperoni, chorizo and chili. Other more exotic toppings include tandouri chicken and Moroccan lamb. they also serve excellent Dutch starters like bitteballen. Poprtions are large and the beer (draft Heinekin and a selection of Dutch and Belgian ales) is good value compared to local pubs too. all in all a good value dining experience in the London'd west end."
    dined on 22/02/2014
  • "Lovely pancakes but dire service.... We queued for ages for a table even though we had a reservation in advance, and then waited for ages for everything... Even our first drinks on arrival took over 15 minutes to arrive. We went here for our anniversary to relive our first trip together to Amsterdam. It was a very disappointing experience and ruined our evening."

  • "My son wanted to go here as a birthday treat, we hadn't been for 25+ years so thought it would be fun. Nice food, good service, big portions. Will not wait 25 years to return."

  • "I decided to book a table online for this restaurant at 7:30pm and even got email confirmation for my booking. When I turned up they said they had given my booking away as it was listed for 7pm. I got no apology and my party was shoved in the bassment which was almost empty. I very much enjoyed the dinner and our waiter was nice but it took more than 40 minutes for my order to be taken there was no atmosphere and the waiters came down infrequently. Most of all I should have got some sort of apology for their booking mistake!"
    dined on 11/02/2014
  • "Having revisited the restaurant in Holborn after 40 years I was not disappointed only to add that my savoury pancake (Hot Dutch) arrived with the cheese not fully melted and was cold. Everything else was just as I remembered it and my daughter thoroughly enjoyed her pancake with banana, maple syrup and ice-cream with a promise from me of a return visit."

  • "Why would anybody ever eat anything besides breakfast food? My Old Dutch confirms this in my mind. They serve you the most delicious pancakes that are enormous - seriously, the plates are at least a foot across. But what really won my heart was the fact that these giant, delicious pancakes can be made GLUTEN FREE! Go savory if you like, but I will alway choose sweet and can personally recommend the berry compote, banana and nut, and cinnamon and apple. A must visit - more than once!"

  • "We went there as two families for Sunday lunch with 4 kids, it was great. The waiters were very accommodating, food took a bit long as it was very busy but it was delicious whether it was the pancakes or desserts! Hadn't been there in over 10 years and it looks more modern than before. Great venue."

  • "We were treating our 2 children to a birthday meal. Everything was going fine until the waitress brought over the tea and coffee. She accidentally tilted the tray and hot tea went al over my daughter's back and the jug of milk spilt over her coat , my fur coat and on my handbag. She kept apologising but did't offer for us to move as there was milk everywhere. The manager said he would take 20% off the bill but I have just had to pay for 2 coats to be dry cleaned, a bag ruined and a completely spoiled evening, not to forget hot tea down my daughter,s back. No body offered to ask if she was OK. I felt some decent compensation should have been made. But we didn't make too much of a fuss and the whole situation was embarrassing."

  • "Despite booking a table we were left waiting at the door and people in front without booking were seated and received food quickly. We waited for over 20 minutes before even being asked if we would like any drinks. Once food was ordered it arrived quite quickly but service overall left a lot to be desired. Food was good although one member of the party was left waiting for theirs to arrive after everyone else had received theirs."
    dined on 03/01/2014
  • "Having booked a table for 8 three weeks beforehand, we were all annoyed to find out that the restaurant had not received our reservation. We were placed downstairs on our own, with was very isolating and noisy with the staff running up and down the stairs. We were kept for 20 minutes trying to find a place to sit, whilst we constantly showed the staff present the reservation email and confirmation email. The food was great but our night was slightly dampened by the delay at the beginning."
    dined on 23/11/2013
  • "The bitterballen are the best! The pancakes are okay, big and taste. The staff didn't speak English or Dutch, most of the time we had to ask 5 (!!) different waiters before we found one that could actually understand us. The ambience is more like a canteen then a restaurant, plastic table covers and very bright lights, I would go back, but mainly because I'm Dutch and graving my bitterballen once every few months."
    dined on 12/11/2013
  • "We enjoyed our meal and the atmosphere was good. If you're looking for fine dining that this isn't the place to go but they do excellent pancakes and poffertjes."
    dined on 09/11/2013
  • "I had not been to My Old Dutch for a long time and I wanted to go back because I had memories of great pancackes. Well, the pancackes are still great but ventilation in the establishment is so poor the air was stuffy and my clothes were still smelling after 2 days. No matter how great the food is, I'm afraid this restaurant is out for me unless they sort it out. Nevertheless, I wanted to write a review to make it clear the food is still very good."
    dined on 08/11/2013
  • "Quite empty when we got there, but no one really looked after us, had to ask someone to take our order and she didn't speak much English and couldn't understand us, not good really. I wanted ice cream but was told they had run out but then orders after ours had ice cream so was not happy with that. One pancake was burnt and couldn't be eaten but no one came back and checked if everything was ok, not happy with the whole meal, no customer service at all."
