A word from Orrery
In London’s chic and trendy enclave of Marylebone where designer shops vie for space with smart restaurants, Orrery provides a relaxed and stylish venue for shoppers, local residents and business people alike to enjoy very high quality classic French cooking. In keeping with the relaxed charm of this historic quarter, Orrery is housed in an old stable block, the space remade into something elegant and delightful with arched windows, a glass roofed area and a lively bar next door. The Orrery restaurant roof terrace is one of London’s great outdoor dining spaces. In fact, both the bar and sunny terrace are two of London’s finest sipping and basking spots, a great place to escape from the hustle and bustle of the West End. The menu is traditional French with classic dishes made exciting by inventive touches. The wine list is among London’s best and most extensive, running to more than fifty pages, and the head sommelier knows his stuff. Continued

Diner Reviews
  • "Perfectly positioned on Marylebone High st. I went for Sunday lunch, which was delicious. I recommend the ravioli in lobster bisque! We were lucky to be able to sit outside on the roof terrace. No good views but nice to be in open air on a very hot day.The staff were attentive but not intrusive, Yes, I would recommend this restaurant for a lovely meal with friends."

  • "Arriving early we luckily sat on the stunning rooftop terrace to celebrate a 50th birthday - ambience special & intimate. Orrery were superb on all fronts, Highly commend service from all staff - considerate, patient & unobtrusive Sunday lunch set menu a wonderful selection & no one disappointed. Amuse Bouche of Artichoke soup in a glass a treat. Lobster ravioli popular & my mushroom en croute unusual but tasty starter. Mains were superb - crusted sea bass, rump of lamb, black leg chicken wi/ pork belly were all perfection. Desserts of chocolate fondant, Crėme brûlée w/ raspberry sorbet, chocolate mousse w/ orange sorbet all divine. Presentation beautiful Rounded off w/ coffees on the settees - all in all Orrery exceeded our expectations"

  • "I am not sure what was going on last friday, but the staff were more engaged with their own personal issues than with the customers....all very amusing but not what I was looking for in an upmarket London restaurant. Having eaten at the Orrery many times over the years, I will not be going back, which is a shame as the food is good."

  • "Waiting staff was a little over zealous. We kept getting interrupted in our conversation."

  • "We booked via Opentable but this was no hindrance to the service or attention to detail we've received. It was a beautiful warm day and we were able to have a drink at their terrace (there are also tables but we hadn't booked in that area) before going back to the restaurant. Wonderful to find an elegant but relaxed and cozy ambience without any air conditioning - excellent combination! Service was very friendly and attentive. The menu for opentable appealed more to us than the a la carte menu - we looked at both options. Very French and delicious food! Wonderful experience all round and most happy to recommend and go back to!"

  • "It was a warm evening and we enjoyed our dinner at the terrace of Orrery. As always, service is perfect and food delicious. The pre-theatre menu is always a winner."

  • "We went for lunch and were lucky to get a table on the terrace. The food was fantastic, every course was beautifully presented and perfectly cooked and the portions were generous. The lunch menu is great value but the wine is overpriced."

  • "This is a place that I would strongly recommend for a casual romantic dinner during the summer months if you can nab a table at the terrace. You get a feel that it is a place that's slightly under-the-radar, and definitely in a good way - it seemed to be the casual dining choice of many a discerning local. The value was incredible for this former Michelin-star restaurant, and I feel it just needs a slight push to recover it..."

  • "Lovely experience. Enjoyed some nice cocktails on their roof terrace before dining, food and service were excellent, and the restaurant has a great ambience."

  • "Overall the experience was very good. My only concern/complaint is that the Maitre d' did not willingly present the fixed price menu and tried to get me to 'upgrade to the £50.00 three course menu. Only after discussion was the £30.00 menu presented and proved to be very worthwhile and much better value."

  • "I visited Orrery for lunch on a Sunday using the Open Table 3 courses and bellini offer. We really enjoyed the food, in particular the goat's cheese tart and the cod, and the desserts were absolutely delicious. The wine list is extensive but a bit on the pricey side - the restaurant could offer more bottles in the £25-35 range. Service was hit and miss - the girl on the front desk answered the question of whether we could sit outside with a very abrupt and rude "no" with no apology for being unable to fulfill a request made when I booked the table. The rest of the serving staff were polite although one of the servers didn't speak very good English. The service was a bit stiff and stilted, which made for a slightly stuffy ambience."

  • "Everything about Orrery is designed to please. Beautiful surroundings, serene ambience, light, airy room with good space between tables for discussions of business or romance! Charming staff, excellent maître d and restaurant managers. Igor,s food looks beautiful and tastes divine, each dish perfectly judged - we'd be happy to eat anything on his menus. Interesting wine list, too, but could do with a few more decent selections under £30 for everyday drinking. We love Orrery and enjoy taking business and overseas guests there whenever we can. • "Food and service were very good. We sat on the terrace but it was an uncomfortably hot day which made me less hungry. Think I might have enjoyed it even more if I had chosen to sit in the air conditioned first floor. It was my second time at the restaurant. It did not disappoint but it did not make the same impact on me as the first experience. Given the heat, gazpacho was a good choice. Ravioli less so."

  • "We went to Orrey for lunch. We managed to get a table at the terrace, and food & service were very good. Good value for special occasions or for business. Highly recommend."

  • "A very enjoyable sunny evening on the terrace at Orrery. The service was excellent - friendly, professional and unobtrusive. The food was excellent and good value for money. The three course meal was supplemented with amuse bouche, petit fours along the way. The main course steak was perfectly cooked at medium rare."

  • "As usual, no complaints. Food delightful, service and ambience even better."

  • "Although Opentable deal, no diminution in either the food quality (inc. the amuse bouche) nor the service. The staff were highly professional and went above and beyond to ensure we were well looked after (without ever being intrusive). Even decorated an additional plate with a birthday message and extra truffles on learning it was one of the diner's birthdays. Made for a thoroughly enjoyable dining experience on all counts. Recommend highly."

  • "We went to Orrery for a mid week lunch and made the most of the fixed price menu. It was good value with all delicious-sounding options. The food was fantastic. The servings were generous and the amuse bouche was a nice touch. We had the house wine, which was good. They ought to offer more choice on cost however, as the next wine on the list was £48 a bottle."

  • "Orrery remains a favourite for always having something that is really special- the seafood raviolo in lobster bisque starter was the triumph of the day. And it was pretty great to enjoy dining on the terrace on this warm summer's day- do ask for it or you'll eat in the restaurant. My main course was good without being remarkable and service was attentive, if a little too business like. Still, that's unusual in a restaurant that I otherwise list as a perennial favourite."
    dined on 13/07/2014
  • "The food is undoubtedly very good indeed. I was somewhat disappointed by the service. There were things that just weren't sharp enough for a Michelin starred restaurant. Don't get me wrong, it wasn't bad but a number of things just weren't right. . The Terrace is great for a summer's evening. At the end of our time there it was the food which stood out."

  • "Went for our daughters 22nd birthday. Had a 9pm reservation for the 3 course set menu. Called at 8:20 and they were happy to let us come earlier. Staff were wonderful! Prior to each course they brought a little something which was complimentary; savory profiteroles, Meiji cucumber soup, lemon cream sorbet. At they end they brought a beautiful plate of Bon bons with happy birthday written in chocolate. All very nice for a special celebration!"

  • "A beauiful restaurant in the heart of Marylebone. Great value on the lunch menu with outstanding food. Perfect for business by day and social occasions by night"

  • "A lovely evening at the Orrery. The food was very good (rump of lamb was excellent) but the service was outstanding. Delightful leafy outlook through large semi-circular windows over Marylebone Church. We hope to go back soon."

  • "I love the room at Orrery - it has the most amazing light during the day, yet is cosy in the evening too. Its the kind of place where you can hear your partners conversation - so only go here with people you want to talk to! The food is good - our starters and desserts were really lovely, the main course a bit of a disappointment if we're truthful (rather chewy shin of beef, and plaice with anchovies which was nice but not mindblowing). They made a fuss of the birthday girl and provided extra chocolates, which was a nice touch, and the overall bill was very reasonable given the service and all the extra little touches."
    dined on 05/07/2014
  • "Most enjoyable lunch with old friends of family. Good choice of set meal and the dishes chosen were well prepared and well presented, but wine list lacks reasonably priced bottles. High standard of service."
    dined on 04/07/2014
  • "Nice meal outside on new terrace. Good food. Good service. My only gripe was that my fellow diner chose a main meal from the more expensive of the set menus and i was charged the full difference between them. Waiter should have said this at the outset and we would have then chosen from the starters on the more expensive menu. Or, more correctly, charge a portion of the difference."
    dined on 01/07/2014
  • "Amazing food and the best possible service with a team that was not only genuinely attentive and responded to every request, but that truly appeared to be enjoying their jobs! Made the experience even more compelling."
    dined on 30/06/2014
  • "This is my 4th lunch at the Orrery in the past 9 months. The prix fixe menu is not only the best value of its type in London but contains dishes whose variety excludes no taste and drives few diners to the fearsomely costly a LA carte. A piece of advice, the house wines are really OK because the wine list contains a few shocks,e.g Sancerre at £45!l'llbe back soon."

  • "I wouldn't change a thing about our experience at Orrery. Everything was superb! From the greeting when we arrived, to the beautiful décor, to the delicious food, to the fabulous presentation, to the impeccable service, nothing was amiss. I would go back to Orrery anytime, and recommend it to anyone looking for a wonderful dining experience."
    dined on 29/06/2014
  • "The Orrery serves really delicious food. We had the £30 three course meal which we felt was fantastic value for money. The service was amazing. Very attentive but discreet. I would definitely recommend."

  • "My wife and I went for a Friday lunch for a special occasion. The choice was good and the food was delicious. The service prompt and attentive but not rushed. The ability to interchange some dishes on the set menu with the a la carte menu with no hesitation from the waiter was great customer service. The amuse-bouche was also a nice touch."
    dined on 27/06/2014
  • "We very much enjoyed our 3 course meals here. We had a special menu they have on Thursday and it was lovely. On top of the 3 courses we were treated to a tasty amuse bouche. House wines were also suprisingly good."

  • "The food was delicious and the service was great. I would recommend it without the slightest hesitation. Excellent value for money if you choose the set menu."

  • "We have dined here three times and for ambience, value and the quality of the cooking Orrery is hard to beat in this part of London. On this lovely evening we sat on the roof terrace. Warmly recommended."
