Diner Reviews
  • "The menu is good and better when you are able to take advantage of the 50% of food deal. But.. The starters were fine. I ordered the summer chicken casserole containing broad beans, peas, courgette, and pesto. Sounds nice but instead it contained carrots and celery and not a pea or broad bean in sight. As someone who hates celery it wasn't my best experience. Not even a very good chicken casserole in any season. Although I did point out it was not what I ordered nothing was done except they did acknowledge it wasn't as the menu. Basically the food is ok at half price but certainly not worth anymore. We won't be going back. The waiters are trying their best."

  • "The location was fantastic for theatres around Covent Garden and note that they have a good value pre / post theatre menu. This was my first time. The cooking was OK - more like a good pub quality than wow. I ordered half chicken sunday roast with a soup starter and a baked cheesecake for dessert. It came with a Bellini and all for £20 plus service as part of a Sunday roast menu which I booked via opentable. The service was exceptionally efficient, friendly & brisk which I liked as I was solo. The atmosphere was bright & cheerful. It was good value but not fantastic cooking - at or around Cafe Rouge with good service."

  • "This restaurant is lovely. The food and the service can't be faulted. The dining experience would have got 5 stars across the board but was spoiled by the heat! We, amongst many other diners, asked for the aircon to be switched up but it seems that it either didn't work properly or it was never turned to a comfortable setting. How the staff coped is an enigma to me. It was stifling! We would definitely go again but not on a hot day! We left far earlier than we would normally have done and I even left some of my wine!"

  • "Food was adequate but not great. Great service not bad price and prompt if you in a hurry for pre theatre. Not sure I would rush to go again."

  • "Had dinner on a Friday evening. Good atmosphere without being packed out. We all felt food was of a good quality, service was attentive but not overpowering and considering on the corner of Covent Garden, good value"

  • "We ate at PCB before an evening performance at the Opera House. We both chose cured salmon with beetroot creme fraiche, followed by honey-glazed pork steak. We enjoyed both dishes as well as the overall experience. The flavour combinations were really nice and we felt that someone in the kitchen understood the food - not always the case, we have found. Small criticicisms: The salmon starter, though pleasant, was not quite as billed - more of a beetroot coloured remoulade wrapped in pieces of cured salmon. The chorizo with the pork had gone rather hard - possibly difficult to avoid, but smaller pieces might make it easier to eat."

  • "I booked this after looking at a few menus in Covent Garden. It was my partners birthday and was looking for a varied menu for a late relaxed lunch. We arrived and was greeted by a really friendly waiter who seated us and when he found out it was a birthday celebration he came back with 2 Kia Royale champagne cocktails on the house! They were amazing! We both were spoilt for choice with the menu. The tiger prawns we both had to start were cooked to perfection! I had the mussels and they were by far one of the best I've ever had! My OH had the fish and chips and he was really pleased with his! Desert came with candles which was a really personal touch! We shared a bottle of prosecco which was ice cold and delicious! Highly recommend!"

  • "The restaurant was very busy when we visited with a pre-theatre crowd. As such service was a little slow but still attentive. For instance, our waiter let us have main and dessert as our two courses and also brought two rounds of tap water alongside our kir royales. Portions were large and tasty. The beef in my boeuf bourgignon was a little fatty but cooked so well that it didn't matter. Pudding was enormous and two courses was plenty to fill us up."

  • "My special dinner (Kir +3 courses) with two friends was very enjoyable, the food wasw good, though I found my Beef Bourginon a bit tough. The service was friendly and efficient as always. well worth return visits."

  • "I had post theatre dinner with my wife and a business lunch in the Palm Court and both times, the food was very well cooked and presented accompanied by a very nice wine thank you. The service is unobtrusive but very good. This is not high table but it justifies what it charges with good food and wine. In the summer sit near the front of the restaurant but in the winter or in the evenings the darker interior creates a more cost atmosphere."

  • "Friendly welcome and prompt service. Tended to be a bit too quick at times so if you are looking for a long leisurely meal maybe think again. You have a two hour time slot but our meal of three courses was over and done in 45 minutes. Food was very good and cannot fault what we had from a good menu. Wines were reasonably priced and a good selection. Overall we enjoyed our visit but what we hoped would be a nice evening dining experience was cut short which left us at a loose end. But - Hey ho that's what you get I suppose."

  • "We really enjoyed our pre-theatre meal at the Palm Court and wondered why we had never tried it before! We were a group of six with three generations present and all found the food to be of excellent quality. Service was also efficient and charming. Will definitely return as this restaurant offers very good value indeed."

  • "I wanted to give my niece a really nice 21st birthday meal, which meant that I needed great food, great service and just the right ambience. I struck lucky by choosing Palm Court Brassiere. I booked over the Internet and gave a written FYI that it was for a 21st birthday treat, but asked for nothing specifically special. On arrival it was quietly noted to me that they had got the message and the service throughout the meal was super friendly, super efficient and not over the top. The dessert arrived with a sparkly candle and a 3 waiter song to boot. Just the right amount of attention and the food could not be faulted. The restaurant had other clientèle but was not packed (it was a Wednesday!). Thanks to staff for a great evening!!"

  • "An extremely friendly and helpful team of waiters for whom nothing was too much trouble. We ate the sea bass which was a reasonably sized portion, both cooked and presented beautifully. The starters were also good and presented well i.e. prawn cocktail served in large scallop shells ! We will definitely be paying another visit in the near future."

  • "I organised an engagement dinner with my bridesmaids on Thursday night and expected that we would get at least good service on that basis alone since we made a reservation. They called the morning of to conform which was really good, but that was the only good experience I had. The waiter took our drink order only once and from then on we struggled to get his attention for the entire event. I think my maid of honour only got one drink over the two hours we were there. My mother wasn't given the right rose and one of the waiters was walking passed her chair and knocked her head with his elbow!! I've never been so furious or embarrassed about a booking in my life. Food was okay. The half chicken was too salty and the lamb was fatty."

  • "I'd long wanted to visit Palm Court Brasserie but was a bit frustrated when I went... The restaurant itself is very attractive - intimate with an anglicised French character - and has great lighting, so perfect for a good dinner. However the staff took a fairly long time to serve us; longer than I would expect, at least - which left us feeling a bit peckish at times. The food was good and came in big portions, but curiously the wine was unpleasant. Whilst I'm no expert in wine, I drink enough to know what's good and our first glass - Rioja Tempranillo - was horrible. We complained and were told by the attentive waiter that the bottle was definitely corked...but the second bottle was nearly as bad! All in all...proceed with caution."

  • "A group of 6 of us met for a reunion at the restaurant. It was great value as we had the fixed price lunch with the kir. Service was attentive but not overwhelming - which was perfect for us as we wanted to chat. The food was delicious - as always (this is probably the 5th time we've had lunch here). Would definitely recommend it."

  • "We were 2 adults and a 9 year old for dinner. Our order was taken my the waiter but he missunderstood my order and instead of Filet Steak I was given ribeye. I don't like Ribeye. He was difficult to contact and when I caught his eye he offer to change it. I was a bit annoyed and told him it was too late. He apologised and reported to his boss. The boss apologised and offered not to charge me for my meal. This was very a generous offer which I accepted. The remainder of my party enjoyed their meals. The staff were very polite throughout."

  • "Group of 8 but with a lot of last minute additions and cancellations. The staff were great, accomodating last minute changes and people arriving late. They didn't hassle us just encouraged us to get stuck into a very interesting wine list. From a la carte menu the baked brie and tiger prawns were good starters, the risotto main was lovely, simple, but very well done. Good reports from all the other members of the party. Lots of other tables seemed to be having the Belinni special which looks very good value. We had wines from both ends of the list, red and white, but the surprising favourite for best value was the cheap Vaucluse red at £15 a bottle."

  • "The wife anf I attended The Palm Court on Saturday 21/06/14 for a pre Theratre meal, we both eat of the main lunch time menu, we both had Cured salmon with beetroot crème fraiche to start with a Bellini, then my wife had tuna NICOISE SALAD with new potatoes, green beans, boiled egg, tomatoes & olives and for myself a SEAFOOD LINGUINE king prawns, mussels and clams with roma tomatoes, chilli & spinach, and to finish a coffee each, the food and the service was excellent, no complaintes from us, from the meeting us at the door to saying thank you on the way out was a really good exspearance and one that we would do again, Total bill was about £75 that inclueds a bottle of water and tip, and as London prices goes not bad at all."
