Really glad i went here as i found out it is soon closing down for a refurb and new owners. Inside it looks amazing the decor is lovely and very romantic. Food was good, really enjoyed the inion soup and good sized portions. I was expecting my husband to leave hungry but even he was full up.

We spent our first anniversary in this restaurant and it was the perfect choice for this occasion. I have to mention our waiter - Michael from Berlin - who was extremely friendly and made us feel more than special. Of course it was quite expensive, but you get a lot for your money, so it was definitly worth it!

Very nice restaurant. Five of us dined on a Friday evening and thought everything was delightful. Very good service, friendly and helpful. Sommelier is exceptional, just the right tone in helping with the selection. I was very impressed with the wine list - some great value wines as well as a fine selection at the sort of prices you would expect in a place like this. We will definitely be back and would recommend it to anyone who is looking for great food in an upscale, beautiful setting.

If I'm honest I was a little disappointed. The food was lovely, the service was good, but the ambiance was pretty flat. There's nothing I can specifically fault, but there was nothing to make it memorable either. It was just pleasant. We won't be rushing back though.

I took a friend to enjoy the chocolate themed afternoon tea at Pearl. The afternoon started with being greeted rather rudely by a member of staff who seemed too busy writing down details to look up and acknowledge guests at the front desk. This was followed by a waiter who seemed disgusted at our requests for vegetarian sandwiches. My pregnant friend made an enquiry about raw eggs in a dessert and was ignored. What a pity that an elegant venue serving decadent desserts ends up dissapointing due to bad service.

Great cooking, and affordable wine list. Venue a little strange - neither buzzy nor really calm and some odd design features, especially the 70s wood paneling, and frayed carpeting on the way to the loos. But very nice food and very good although slow service. Not sure that I will return bearing in mind the price of £134 for two even though this was a birthday treat.

Found this restaurant on the Internet and delighted. The group consisted of my husband, our post finals son, our gap year son and our 11 year old daughter. Menu catered to a range of differing tastes. We sat in the bar area for about an hour which was relaxing and spacious. The food was good but not extraordinary but the service was impeccable. The only downside was the blank look I was given on asking for a list of soft drinks. There wasn't one. So I assumed they would have tonic so had to settle for that. Ask for a gin and tonic and there is a long choice of different gins! More for the non drinkers please

My wife and I had dinner there last night (28/05/13), and found that everything was very good - the service, the cooking, the wine - EXCEPT for the food itself. Both our main courses (lamb and fillet of beef) had tough, chewy pieces of meat. That meant that the food seemed pretty overpriced.

We're greeted with indifferent reception. Had booked table for 4 and we two we're first to arrive. Asked if we wanted to go straight to our table we declined and that was it. Had to ask for coats to be dealt with and find a seat in the reception/bar ourselves. Had to return to reception and ask for cocktail and drinks list. Like getting blood out of a stone. However the house speciality cocktails were terrific. Guests arrived and cocktailed we went to our table. Food was well prepared and presented. The waiting staff were attentive and the sommelier knowledgable. I was I pressed that they had a Minervois la Livinière, not easy to find in UK.

It was an amazing experience, although the food was not quite to standard according to the price that was on the menu. I would of expected a lot more refinement. Service could be a bit more efficient, but that's my opinion. The bar area looked great! The seating hostess was pleasant. We had 3 different waiters serving out table which was strange to me. Orders were taken correctly. The food arrived at the correct temperature. The waiterers did not introduce themselves.

The wait between our starter and main was over 40 min, so slow that my client did not have time to eat her lunch as she had another meeting afterwards. I was almost embarassed for the restaurant how bad the service was. After having to flag down the waitress several times, she was slow and even though I flagged to her that we needed to leave in an hour, the full meal took over 2hr, with of course my client not having time to eat her main due to the excessive delay.

Jun Tanaka is no longer running Pearl. It has become a mediocre hotel bar and grill. We took friends on Saturday night, remembering the three previous occasions we have had fine meals there, and were bitterly disappointed and embarrassed. The dinner menu had sandwiches on it! We should have done our research first, but the Chancery Court Hotel site is very evasive on this topic. In fact, the hotel itself - which used to have a fine bar perfect for pre-or-post dinner drinks, seems to be in a state of partial close-down (renovations maybe?). Previously we've been assisted with cabs by liveried footmen - no longer. The sommelier was very pleasant and knowledgeable. He had the air of someone who wishes he was working somewhere else.

Pearl was always a wonderful venue with an exciting menu. The food offfering now is brasserie style - limited menu. Fine for meetings, but the departure of the chef and team, has had a clear impact. It is understood the restaurant relaunches in October as a fine dining destination - awaited with anticipation.

The tea was lovely, the sandwiches were very ordinary, not a selection of different breads as in other places we have had tea. Also, all you can eat chocolate buffet was not topped up regularly, we had to wait for more cakes to come. The chocolate fountains were small, probably no more than 30cm high, and the milk chocolate one had run out of chocolate so didn't have a "fountain" effect. However the cakes did look and taste amazing. A great experience but not for a special occasion as the luxury feel was missing.

Positives were the lovely decor and extensive wine list. Most of the wines were in the £40+ price braket but when we asked for a good decently priced wine the one that was recommended was excellent. The food menu was very small so we naturally expected everything to taste wonderful and in this we were a little disappointed. My food was really rather average and I was annoyed when my partner and I both ordered the cheese board for dessert. Not only did the crackers arrive a good 10 to 15 minute before the cheese but also one of the boards was missing walnuts. Of course I would find this little slip up understandable if the restaurant had been busy but there were no more than 14 covers in the 2 hours that we were there.

We wanted a restaurant close to Holborn Stn and this one is just a 2 minute walk. We have exhausted nearly every restaurant in the City which we love and were so pleasantly surprised at how lovely this place is. The ambience is romantic with clever lighting on the tables. The menu was slightly different from the usual British and Modern European that we usually have and all three courses were delicious. The staff were friendly and attentive without constantly hanging around your table, I will definately go back.

We had s terrible experience at the pearl restaurant. The ambience was awful, the service terrible, none of the waiters looked like they wants to be there and the food was very average and we sent 2 items back because they were not good. I cannot express how disappointed we were abd will never go back or recommend the restaurant. There was no manger there, we had to find someone to pour our wine as they had taken the bottle but not returned when our glasss were empty. The restaurant was only 1/4 full on s Saturday night which says it all.

Having eaten here for a business lunch a couple of years ago, I was tempted by the £30 for 3 courses menu for dinner with a friend. On my previous visit, the food had been outstanding in flavour, originality and presentation but the chef at the time has moved on. The bar this time was bustling with post-office drinkers but the dining room is spacious, comfortable and civilised, and the service is just as good as before. The food, too, was good, but no longer a special dining experience. For example I had chicken liver pate, moules mariniere and a banoffee Kilner. The a la carte menu offered similar fare. I can't fault the food per se, but with drinks and service on top, the prices reflect a more flamboyant dinner than is now served.

Stunning venue with courteous staff who were efficient and subtle with their service. Food and wine came and went with droplets of relevant information adding to the enjoyment of our evening without being cloying. The sommelier was enthusiastic and knowledgeable, a necessity given the ample wine selection and our differing food selections. Both the starters and desserts where fantastic with fresh plump oysters and crab cakes starting us off and ended with a couple of quaint classics, Bannofee Pie and Chocolate Brownie Sundays served in jam jars. However the mains where very disappointing one of Gilt Bream and the other Grilled Mackerel, these both arrived lukewarm and over cooked, and at these prices this is a crime. Own goals disappoint.

Firstly, the front of desk member of staff could not find my name on the list of reservations. I had to point out to her that my name was directly in front of her on the screen. Not a terribly promising start. Secondly, the waitress who served us had poor English, to the point that she had trouble understanding us. And finally, one of my party ordered liver. She was asked how she would like it cooked and said well done. However, it was cooked to the point of toughness. Overall, I thought my meal was not value for money and I thought the service was not as should have been expected. I shall not be returning to The Pearl, nor shall I recommend it
