We love the food here, it was truly fine dining. Even the kids who at ages 3 and 5 are not usually fans of anything other that the humble sausage loved the flavours and cleared their plates. This has to be balanced though by the fact that you're in a greenhouse with a concrete floor and you have to go out through the garden center to use the loos. They have worked hard to give it a charm but I'm afraid when I'm spending that much on lunch then I expect more from the setting. The service was prompt, efficient and friendly but not in your face despite a late arrival of our wine half way through our mains we felt looked after.

Second time I've been here in 5 years and managed to outdo / outperform even highest praises and expectations. Out of 6 starters and 6 mains we could not decide who's was "the winner" as they were all phenomenal. Our sommelier (young Italian - possibly Giovanni) who was new to his post just in from Italy recommended the perfect (and not too expensive) bottle of red from Piedmont that we were very impressed by. Re: wine list: would be nice to have more balance of French wines versus the weighting towards mostly Italian, but all on list were impressive, would just be nice to have more old-world variety / choices. Ambience and food top top marks. Can't wait to go back for next special occasion.

I took my Mother here for her birthday and she absolutely loved it. Lovely food, beautiful setting and friendly staff. I can't recommend it more highly. It's the ideal place to take anyone who loves horticulture too! Only thing I want to flag is finding it then parking was a nightmare so get public transport or arrive with plenty of time to spare!

Had a fantastic lunch here. Yes, it's expensive but you get what you pay for. Yes, they need some new loos for restaurant patrons but the ambience is amazing. Truly one of the most outstanding meals I've had in London.

I had a gift voucher for the nurseries as a leaving present and decided to this use it towards a meal in the restaurant on a Sunday. We had a wander round and also saw the tea house and the food looked good and there were plenty of different places to sit. We arrived at the restaurant a little early at 1.30 but this was no problem and we were able to chose a table. The restaurant is in a conservatory and has an earth floor. It's very different - shabby chic! Iron tables and chairs, lots of flowers and greenery and Indian themed pictures! The service , food and wine were excellent. We thoroughly enjoyed our time at Petersham. However, it is fairly expensive, but as a special treat, a lovely experience.

I have eaten at the Petersham Nursery Cafe several times and despite its reputation and difficulty in getting a table, it doesn't rest on its laurels. Even when very busy, as it usually is, the service is unhurried (but efficient), the food fresh and delicious and of course, the ambience unique. Just a pity about the parking, but still worth the hassle.

What a fantastic way to celebrate a significant birthday. We were lucky to have booked on an idyllic September Sunday, but the food was just as good as we'd been told and the late-summer ambience of Petersham was a revelation. We followed it with a nice walk along the river. Definitely planning a return.

Back again at the Petersham for lunch. The car park was packed when we arrived. Despite being full of lunch time dinners the kitchen seemed to cope well, and served up a tasty scallop starter and quail main. My friend was impressed with the venue, and the food. Will have to come back again soon.

This is an absolute fantastic place, fine dining inside a hilarious green house. Food is great, lean and tasty but when combined with the beautiful setting and ambiance it is a must visit. Preferably, stroll along the Thames from Richmond to get there, but it is also possible to drive and park outside.

I went to the restaurant for lunch to celebrate my birthday. The service was excellent and the food very good. The setting at Petersham is gorgeous, but the food and service could be better. It seems they are quite understaffed with basics such as drinks taking a long time to arrive. Food was lukewarm on arrival and although tasty, quite overpriced for what we had. I'd certainly return for afternoon tea but not sure I would go back for a meal. It seems very child friendly though which is a plus for us.

Petersham Nurseries restaurant/café remains a truly unique place with surroundings and an environment that will, I am sure, take anyone on their first visit, with a very pleasant surprise. On top of that, the food is first class but remains really wholesome with a great Italian wine list. I went for one of the cheaper Italian Whites with which most would be delighted and it came well recommended by the sommelier - 3 bottles later between 3 of us, it was so good. Staff also excellent and very friendly but also professional. Don't expect a cheap meal, although really well worth it for any special occasion.

The nurseries just look amazing, but two things didn't meet my expectations: 1st of all, the size of the starter. £14 for literally 4 ravioli, though they were really tasty, seems to me a bit much. They could do with 1 or 2 more. And i mean, the desserts were bigger than the starters... Then, the service was really sad. Waited 40min just to get our starter, and the waitress sounded like she was working at one these restaurant chains, where they just repeat some 'automated' sentences learnt during their training. Didn't feel genuine at all. I guess the service might be the reason why they lost their Michelin star. But all in all, still a very interesting place where to eat for a special occasion.

The food was absolutely sensational and totally delicious. It was hard to choose from such interesting dishes but we both loved what we chose and could not fault the food in any way. Wine, too, excellent, with a good range by the glass for lunchtime. Service smiley and attentive without being too much. Just as good as the last time we were there a couple of years ago and we will definitely be back. Will continue to recommend it to others. It was almost full but did not feel it as tables not on top of each other and we felt we had individual attention.

The setting is gorgeous, as it was SO hot the tables had all been moved outside. We had a table by the fountain which ws lovely. All the tables ahd gorgeous flowers and there were plants all around. The service was gracious and very polite, the food was lovely, but it all took Ages. It was 20 mins after we sat down that we were asked if we wanted bread, another 15 mins to order, 40 mins till the starters came and another 50 in between starters and mains.... it got hot, irritating - children cant wait that long for food and start crying/annoying other diners, and frustrating. We have dined here many times before, and will definitely return, just not on Saturday lunchtime

Attentive waiters. Food is so fresh & delicious. We dined through thunderstorms, rain and sunshine and it all added to the atmosphere. Gorgeous roses to purchase as well as other flowers and unusual gifts. A real hidden gem, suitable for all ages .We shall definitely return.

Fantastic to see flower petals in the dishes - just what you expect from a nursery - disappointed in the lack of variety of leaves in salad and dishes. Sardines and squid were great. Odd to see a fish stew on the menu on such a hot day. As others have said very high prices sets the bar very demandingly high on expectations. Setting fabulous on a really hot day

  • An annual extravagance for lunch...
    Lucy
    Dined on 20/6/2014
Popular for a very good reason, this is a gorgeous place... set in a romantic greenhouse just back from the Thames in a refulgent patch of land between Richmond and Petersham. Parking is a ruddy nightmare so for heaven's sake take a tow path stroll, the bus or cycle. And bring your whole paycheck because this is not cheap. In fact it is eye wateringly expensive, but for such an unusual spot and such creative food, you can justify it all. We wandered the gardens after our lunch and buoyed by the food and the ambience (and possibly lightly lubricated by the wine) had a wistful moment amongst the roses where we actually believed we were worth it. A once a year extravagance for lunch, but actually quite reasonable for tea. P.s. Fido is welcome.

The service was haphazard and, while not being rude, was not good. The food was not special. We had to ask to move to a slightly quieter table. I had also booked this as a birthday lunch and I'd requested that a candle be added to my partner's dessert. I called shortly before arriving to remind them and was assured that it was noted. There was no candle. If the restaurant was half the price this may be acceptable but, as it is consciously premium priced, this is unlikely to result in good reviews.

Petersham is avery special and unique place. The food is outstanding. Always seasonal and totally different to usual "restaurant food".If you're a good cook yourself it's a bit like your own cooking but much much better. The way they layer flavours is exceptionally clever. I have been to Petersham many, many times and am rarely disappointed. My daughter and I went a couple of weeks ago and had the most divine Lobster Tagliatelle. I am always treated like a very special guest which makes the experience all the more enjoyable. I am exceptionally fortunate to have it on my doorstep.
