A word from PJ's Bar & Grill - Covent Garden
Duck away from the bustle of Covent Garden’s Wellington Street and you find yourself in one of London’s prettiest restaurants.

At any time of the day, PJ’s bustles with life. From groups of lunching businessmen, well-heeled youngsters sipping at the bar, producers hob- nobbing with actors, to the throngs of couples enjoying a romantic pre-or post theatre meal, PJ’s throbs with vitality. It’s this daily melting pot of Covent Garden society that has made PJ’s such a enduring landmark.

PJ’s Grill, Covent Garden is proud to offer a large selection of gluten free and coeliac options across all our courses including some delicious desserts, which always seem to be the most elusive thing to find on any menu.

Diner Reviews
  • "PJs was a great restaurant and ate there again on the last night of trading. Always good food and good service - sorry to see it go."
    dined on 24/01/2014
  • "Food was good but not plentiful, service was ok, table a bit small and felt like we were sitting in a corridor. I thought I had booked a special offer deal but when we arrived the same menu was available for the same price without the drinks and we felt we had been mislead - the deal not as good as we thought. A service charge had been added to the bill but this had not been made clear on the advert when we booked. Meal was nice but not as good a deal as we anticipated - not sure if we will return."

  • "Last minute booking (-3h) for 5 on a Sat night , found PJ among TToffers. Crab cake were ok, 'presentation' cld've been more funky and less bland. Camembert gratin was v. nice, vegetarian options for these fussy attention seekers was to their taste (note:she has little taste, she's a vegetarian! ;-)), the meat selection was great, the sirloin gigantic, perfectly grilled and fries were fresh, lamb perfect too, generous gravy, spinach etc fresh and healthy, ratatouille tasty.. Great really.... so good and such honest portions we were all absolutely full..! Great place. We will go back."

  • "We were pleasantly surprised to find that PJs were helpful with food intolerances and provided wheat free and lactose free meals for us."

  • "I've been to PJ's Bar in Sep2013 and loved the food. What a disappointment and embarrassment it was this time: service wasn't good as we were served by a moody waitress who didn't smile even once and it felt like she wasn't happy we turned up at all. But most importantly, to our surprise, the food was of a very poor quality. Spring rolls were not well cooked, soup had blunt taste, burgers we ordered for kids were burnt and meat was dry and lacked salt and spices, gravy served with braised pork was over-salted. In simple words: will not go there again and would not recommend. Such a shame as we really liked the place before..."

  • "Decided to try PJ's after seeing good reviews. The restaurant postions itself as a pre-post theatre venue capitalising on shabby-chic vibe. I just found it shabby. It could badly do with a revamp. The worst thing for me was the toilets which were filthy and put me off my lunch. The only positive was that there was a 50% off food offer and for the price it was good value. If you had to pay full price you would leave this restuarant feeling dissappointed and ripped off."

  • "PJ's has a charm of yesteryear and a nod to the theatrical district that it sits in (Covent Garden). Convenient for the theatre and shopping. I had a late lunch there on a Saturday with a friend. We had the 50% off a la carte rather than a set menu and were not disappointed. The menu is short and varied, both had the lobster and crab fishcakes followed by the pan roasted lemon sole. The two fishcakes were were a perfect starter size and with a small amount of delicious sauce. The lemon sole was beautifully cooked and presented. My only gripe being the rosti which was a bit soggy but not the end of the world as the portion size is good and we were completely full. No room for the pudding that we wanted. A buzzy place for a catch up."

  • "We had a party of 3 on a friday night. To start with,we were allocated in the bar area and it was really noisy, we were looking for a restaurant, not a pub. About the food, from the starters, the scotch egg was really overcook and from the mains, the calves liver were swimming on the gravy, the rest it was just ok, but nothing special. The service was poor, and i expect to be serve the wine and water if i have to pay the service charge. We will not come back"
    dined on 17/01/2014
  • "The discounted menu at PJs really is very good value! £17.95 for two courses and a glass of prosecco. I've dined at PJs a few times now and the food has been consistently lovely. None of my fellow dinners nor myself have ever had a mediocre dish here and the portions are substantial. I will definitely return. The host can sometimes be a bit grumpy but I'm sure it's because he's stressed (they are always busy) and I think that just adds to the charm of the restaurant anyway. Recommended."

  • "We went to PJ's for our staff Christmas Lunch, albeit in January - everyone had a great time, and the staff were really helpful and good fun too! 50% offer made a big difference, and the food was great!"
    dined on 17/01/2014
  • "Typical of any pre-theatre meal the experience was a quick in/quick out basic feed. There was nothing wrong with the restaurant other than food being mediocre. Service was ok and we got a good deal. I probably wouldn't rush back."
    dined on 16/01/2014
  • "Fairly priced good food with great cocktails. We all enjoyed every course and were pleasantly surprised by the standard of the food."
    dined on 16/01/2014
  • "Good value on the 50% off food offer. Would be a little bit overpriced otherwise but nonetheless a good venue for groups or prior to a night out."
    dined on 15/01/2014
  • "Had to wait a long time for orders to be taken and then drinks/food to arrive (e.g we tried to cancel cocktails as had taken over 30 mins to arrive but were told they'd already been made....but then had to wait another 5mins for them to be brought to table. It also took 4 requests and 40mins to get some water) Food was good, but spoilt by the experience. Would hate to see it when they were busy!"
    dined on 15/01/2014
  • "We went to PJ's on a weeknight and it was quite busy to start with, we assume due to people going there for their pre-theatre meals. There wasn't a huge amount of space per table and it was slightly cramped. But we still go served quite quickly and the waitress was friendly and helpful (not above what you would expect at a restaurant though, but it was busy). The food mostly was good, although some dishes stood out more than others, for example the scotch egg starter was awesome, but the duck spring rolls slightly greasy with very little duck in them and the peri peri chicken tasted almost purely of mustard. We had a 50% off food deal and even so we felt it was slightly overpriced, as the dishes weren't very big or always that great."
    dined on 15/01/2014
  • "I dined at PJs with a friend and it was very good. Attentive service and good food. I will recommend!"
    dined on 13/01/2014
  • "Have not been for a while and it is not quite as I remember, but food good with some unusual dishes."
    dined on 13/01/2014
  • "You can't go wrong with PJ's for an evening catch-up or an after-theatre meal. Great food and atmosphere - the 50% offer also makes it great value."
    dined on 11/01/2014
  • "Staff were not only efficient, but very friendly, which added to our experience. The 50% deal makes this very good value."
    dined on 11/01/2014
  • "We used the 50% off food on a Saturday lunchtime before going to a show. The food was exceptional value and the restaurant was very nice. If your looking for a special occasion. This isn't your restaurant. But for a lunch in London which isn't Michelin star prices. This is perfect."
    dined on 11/01/2014
  • "The food was delicious, the service great and with the 50% off it made it great value. Would definitely come back again."
    dined on 11/01/2014
  • "We had the pre-theatre menu, which is good value at £12.95. The service was good and the restaurant has quite a nice ambience. While the food arrived quickly, it was nothing special. I suppose there's only so much you can expect getting two courses for £12.95 in Covent garden. All in all, not a bad choice if you are in a rush, but I wouldn't be inclined to go back."
    dined on 10/01/2014
  • "We had a nice lunch with friends on Friday. Food was fine, service was very good and ambience OK. Value with the Toptable 50% off food was good value."
    dined on 10/01/2014
  • "This is an unexceptional place to eat but it scores highly for it's proximity to Covent Garden with it's various attractions. The food is ok and the service (we arrived at 5pm,before it became busy) was good. Without the Toptable 50% offer, it would not be good value"
    dined on 09/01/2014
  • "Did 50 percent deal. Food ok but quite bland. Drinks quite expensive. Good service however and good location pre theatre"
    dined on 08/01/2014
  • "Not our first trip and probably not our last. PJ's always offers the same standard of service and food never disappoints. This is our first choice pre-theatre venue whenever there is an 50% off offer. This time there was a mix-up with the order but this was dealt with courteously and promptly although it did mean we didn't get to eat our mains together! The chocolate mousse was delicious as always. Would recommend."
    dined on 07/01/2014
  • "Went on the 50% off a la carte offer. Menu not as extensive as shown on website . Had to send one fish dish back as was inedible . Waiting staff very apologetic and another meal was offered which was a lot better . No vanilla ice cream which accompanied most of the deserts ! . Who runs out of something that basic at 7.30 in the evening? On the positive side the cocktails were very good but unfortunately would not go back."
    dined on 06/01/2014
  • "I went to this restaurant because I wanted to try something new and found this restaurant on toptable. At first glance it seem like a nice place although in reality it is kind of small, which is okay. However, the taste of foods are horrible. I had full course meal. All starters and mains are unacceptable. Its nothing like what I've imagine. One of my friend who order belly pork cannot even chew some of the piece in her dish. Well, overall the appearance of foods look fine but its just a shame that this reataurant is even recommend by toptable and serve this tasteless food. The only thing my friends and I would recommend for other is a salad. Would be more disappoint/mad if we didn't get the 50% of discount."
    dined on 05/01/2014
  • "Toptable post theatre meal on a Saturday. Restaurant looks small and relatively dark compared to neighbouring establishments, but this is deceiving, walking through the bar the restaurant opens up to reveal a nice bright dinning area. The set Toptable menu had plenty of choices. Caesar chicken salad and chorizo scotch egg for starters both were tasty, followed by minute steak and pork belly both were fine. Irish coffee rather than desert, not the best, but acceptable. My partner had panettone bread & butter pudding which was tasty. Food overall fine but not exceptional. Service pleasant & polite, lacked professionalism. Overall a pleasant solid post theatre meal and good value for money given the location. I would consider returning again."
    dined on 04/01/2014
  • "I have been a fan of PJs ever since I started working in London 17 years ago. I used to meet my Dad for lunch during the day and go there with friends after work. Now I no longer live in London I go there whenever I visit, generally meeting friends and family as before. The atmosphere is welcoming, the service is attentive, the food is good and I love trying to identify all the celebrities in the pictures on the walls."
    dined on 04/01/2014
  • "PJ's is a cracking restaurant with great food, service and ambience. The menu caters for all age groups and is good value for money with the 50% off offer. The only slight negative is the fact that the tables are quite close together, with fellow diners impinging on eachother's personal space a little. Apart from that, bob on!"
    dined on 02/01/2014
  • "My husband and I visited PJ's for a pre-theatre meal in January. The service was quick up until we ordered dessert - we were left waiting for quite a while with the menus waiting to order. However, all courses were served fairly quickly, which is good when you have somewhere else to get to! Our main courses - steaks - were excellent and would highly recommend."
    dined on 02/01/2014
  • "We visited this restaurant for the 1st time on a quiet week day to have lunch. Although the service was attentive due to the 12% added on top the bill and the fact that there were only two other tables occupied at that time, the food was just of average quality. We only ordered a main and a dessert for each one of us which was rather uninspiring and dull. Enough to satisfy the appetite but nothing that would make us return for a second time, nor even recommend it. However in view of the positive comments posted by other customers, it may just have been that due to exceptional circumstances the food was substandard on this day. Still, we will most likely never return for a second chance with so many more appealing choices around."
    dined on 02/01/2014
  • "We ate here for my husbands birthday with the children just after new year. There were a few things not available and the duck that I had was very fatty and turned the sauce into a swimming pool. Everyone else enjoyed their meals. Would not pay proper price but was good value with the toptable deal and would be the only way I would return."
    dined on 02/01/2014
  • "Booked a table for noon - prior to attending Lion King matinee. Service was prompt and we were all done by 1:30 Service was good although Maitre D was surly and not very welcoming - rest of the staff were very pleasant though"
    dined on 02/01/2014
  • "Excellent food - friendly and attentive waitress- lovely atmosphere. Would definitely recommend for pre-theatre dinner."
    dined on 01/01/2014
  • "PJ's Bar & Grill was nice and we had a pleasant meal. The TT deal makes it very good value but a bit frustrating that it's not 50% off every thing."
    dined on 01/01/2014
  • "Went pre theatre on a soggy new years eve. The staff were very friendly. The food was good and the restaurant had a nice atmosphere. We ate on the 50% off food offer and with three courses, drinks, coffee and a bit extra on the 12.5% service charge we have still only spent £60. Our plates went back empty and the other diners food that went past us looked pretty good too. Overall we enjoyed an unhurried dinner and would definitely be happy to go again"
    dined on 31/12/2013
  • "We went as a family of four. Food was ok and with the 50% discount it was decent value for Covent Garden. Service was friendly but very slow so be prepared for a two hour lunch. Location is excellent for those visiting central london so I would recommend with the discount."
    dined on 31/12/2013
  • "My wife and i had a bread basket with oil and butter whilst choosing our mains. My wife had the Lamb which was beautifully cooked and i chose the steak with peppercorn sauce which was perfectly cooked with plenty of sauce. My wife then had the cheese board, which at first looked a bit small but turned out to be more than she could manage. I chose the bread & butter pudding with custard (& ice-cream). A great value dinning experience. A big thanks to all the staff who where very attentive and professional, with a relaxed and comfortable atmosphere it was a great way to finish off our London trip. (A little disappointed with the 12.5% service charge on the bill)"
