Diner Reviews
  • "Very poor on this occasion and nothing positive to say unfortunately despite many previous excellent meals at this restaurant. Tired salt and pepper squid. Sausage and mash good but no better than most pub food. Chicken ceasar salad had a hair in it. Toilets not clean and broken tiles. Service slow and not attentive. Will think twice before returning. Other observations but space does not allow here due to the character limit. "

  • "The service was excellent and the ambiance was nice. The food was the best I have ever had at an airport. The sea bass was perfectly prepared and the presentation was excellent. Our starter of Schezwan peppered squid was outstanding. The only complaint was with my daughter’s short rib burger, which was too salty (though this did not prevent her from finishing it). We also ordered two of the picnics for our flight. They were quite good and much more to our liking than what was offered by the airline. Overall, it was an excellent experience."

  • "We booked the day before, but arrived early for our booking but they could seat us straight away. The good was filling and superb quality. The only slight issue was how close the tables are together, other than that the experience was very good."

  • "We were passing through Heathrow on our way to Israel and had dinner at Plane Food. The fish and pork belly were outstanding. The General Manager check on us to make sure everything was OK, which was very nice. Just a little expensive, but it was a once in a lifetime treat."

  • "poor service, average food, would definitely not recommend."

  • "I wish I'd gone to Waggamama's in Terminal 5 as this was a real let down. Very uninteresting fried squid, it needed some aioli or something, and my pasta dish was no better than what I'd get at pizza express, actually probably not as nice. Just really boring food, maybe I ordered the wrong thing but everything should be good at a Ramsay restaurant surely? Service was good, toilets weren't good, overflowing bins etc, annoyed we had to pay £70 for an unforgettable quick dinner before our flight."

  • "As it was my husband's birthday I booked a table for breakfast as a treat before we left for a weekend in Madrid. I was amazed that the staff had reserved us a special table with a view of the planes. The staff were very attentive and the manager himself poured our champagne. A wonderful start to a great weekend."

  • "You expect something more not something less when brand Gordon Ramsey is attached. The food was average service poor and ambience terrible. Next time we'll go to Giraffe"

  • "For a restaurant in an airport the staff seem to be unaware that people might be on a tight schedule. The staff were inattentive and we had to ask for attention each time we wished to order - the restaurant was not busy so there was no excuse for this. I chose the squid to start with, it was simple and unexciting and no dip of any kind making it fairly bland and greasy. For my main I ordered the crispy duck salad, the salad was simple and inoffensive - the duck however I would describe and dried up rather than crispy, more like biltong than a chinese crispy duck dish. My friends had the burgers for a main which they enjoyed but they were very small and served with a pathetic salad garnish. The cocktails however were delicious!"

  • "Given this is in T5 it will always have the ambience of an airport restaurant, but it provides a quieter place to sit and wait for your flight. The food is good but not amazing, but I would always choose to eat here rather than anywhere else in T5!"
    dined on 27/01/2014
  • "The welcome and service were a little cold, but the food was of a decent standard. The main problem was that the place was filthy. At these prices they could at least sweep up lumps of food that have been dropped on the floor throughout the day."

  • "Food was fantastic. Booked online, table ready as requested. Good service, highly recommended compared to other airport dining experiences."

  • "With Gordon Ramsay's name on it, one would expect an exciting menu and good-tasting food. What we got was mediocre at best. The ceviche was boring, bland and dull. The roasted baby chicken with chimuchuri was simply a little chicken on a plate... no vegetables or chimichuri sauce to see or taste. The mac and cheese was also bland and lacked the taste of a good cheese. The chicken curry was actually quite good, but nothing that you would not find at any curry house in London. The beer list consisted of 4 or 5 beers all tasting relatively the same (Peroni and the like). Service was good but it took too long to get the food and other guests were complaining of the slow service even though the place was not even half full."

  • "As a family we were flying to New York on Christmas Day from Heathrow, so chose Plane Food for our Christmas lunch. The restaurant was unsurprisingly quite so the service was attentive but not pushy. We managed 2 courses (starter and main) and all were enjoyed. The flavours were excellent, the amount of food was good and overall we thoroughly enjoyed our lunch."

  • "The staff in this Ramsey operation are always friendly and well informed. They do exactly what you want in an airport restaurant; serve good food fast. They know the menu and anticipate questions. Service was fast. A bit too fast as our drinks arrived after our food. The apology that follows was quickly and charmingly delivered. What more can you ask for? I chose the cod ceviche which if I am picky was too chilled for my taste and could have done with more sharpness but the fish was firm and tasty my husband chose the ceasar salad which he pronounced very good if too chilly. Mains of perfectly cooked whole lemon sole for me and pork belly for my husband were well executed. Many thanks."

  • "Ideal place to relax with good food and a little peace and quiet... would recommend"

  • "I was pleased with my food: spicy squash and coconut soup, followed by a short rib "burger" with mashed potatoes and a robust Spanish wine, and ending with a fine apple-blackberry crumble. Made the long layover in Heathrow worthwhile! Amid the great hustle and bustle preceding the holidays, Plane Food was a quiet place of repose with its great view over the airport, fine food, and fine service."

  • "Top notch food, fab service and quickly served in between our flight connections! I know some people have criticised the cost, but it's no more expensive than the likes of TGIFridays... It's at an airport too, and great food! Thanks!"

  • "After three weeks in West Africa, breakfast at Plane Food was really a treat! And, a nice serving of Champagne set the tone. The breakfast was standard English, but well done."

  • "A very pleasant way to spend time between planes in Heathrow's Terminal 5. Good food, good wine list, great service. And a nice view, too. The braised pork dish I had was just outstanding; certainly this isn't your typical airport fare!"

  • "Plane food is the best kept secret in T5. The large open space benefits from plenty of daylight and the food is of a very high standard. Even in a 'Classic Breakfast' the ingredients are top notch (I have not had mushrooms like it since I was a child). It would have been 5 stars but the tea pot wasn't very full - a small point admittedly. Two of us had the Classic Breakfast, toast with butter in a dish(!) and jams in little jars (not thos plastic things), tea for two and a large bottle of mineral water. Including the 'optional' service charge and the £1.50 cover charge we paid £37. Elsewhere in T5 I imagine this would cost less than £30 but the difference is well worth it for the qualit of the food and the excellent ambience."

  • "In a world of airports this is undoubtedly one of the best ways to start a vacation, good service, very acceptable food and not crazy prices for an airport"
    dined on 27/04/2013
  • "Better customer service at McDonalds - staff very uninterested, frequent reminders for missing drinks and bread, food mediocre, good location watching over airport, price - probably based on location not food quality."
    dined on 01/12/2013
  • "Service was very quick and efficient, but the food was plain and very salty. Certainly not worth the cost. On the upside there is little need to book as it was virtually empty when we were there early evening on a Friday."
    dined on 29/11/2013
  • "Apart from the excellent food what made this such a good meal is the way my son's food allergies were taken into consideration and catered for. We'd told them about the allergies when we booked and Anthony let us know that he was expecting us when we arrived. He paid attention to both us as parents and my son making us all feel that they really did understand and were working to accommodate us - where we often feel that people are only paying lip service and trying to take your money Plane Food made us feel truly looked after."
    dined on 15/11/2013
  • "Had breakfast here, food was good but not amazing considering the prices. Eggs benedict etc is very small so go for the full breakfast for better value or you'll be eating again on the plane."
    dined on 07/11/2013
  • "This is hard to review. I do enjoy eating here, the view can be amazing if you get a good table and it's the quietest sit down place to eat in T5. You can easily pass 2 hours with a decent meal, glass of wine and wait for your flight. The other options are either fast food, a pub or Starbucks. It's a little pricey, the service is slow and the food isn't amazing. But it's nice food, in a nice setting without too much aggravation, so it gets a shielded thumbs up from me."
    dined on 27/10/2013
  • "Lovely restaurant which makes you feel you are anywhere but an airport. Good lunch menu at reasonable prices."

  • "Considering this is a Ramsay restaurant, it was very dissapointing. The service although friendly was inept. We had to ask for water 3 times and the restaurant was near empty with lots of staff standing around. The champagne cocktails to start were excellent but everything went downhill from there. Bland, unimaginative food and dissapointing presentation. I'll definitely look for elsewhere to dine next time I'm at T5."

  • "Poor choice of food, small portions. Menu choice to small, and unimaginative. Very very disappointed ."

  • "With a view of the taxiing planes on the air side, if you like modern stylish British food, you should be pleasantly surprised by this Gordon Ramsay restaurant. The great value 2/3 course set lunch was excellent, the service very attentive, the speed of serving the 3 courses is amazing, (35 minutes if you wish), but you can slow it down if you want. Wine list a bit ambitious and pricey, but you can have it by the glass or 50cl carafe. The only negative is the £1.50 a head cover charge and 12.5% service even on the cover charge! - cheeky! But for an airport restaurant, the experience easily surpassed expectations."
    dined on 10/10/2013
  • "Having been a previous fan of Gordon Ramsay I entered with somewhat higher expectations than for most airport restaurants, but was left disappointed by a number of things. The worst was a surly waiter who lacked basic manners and looked to be very unhappy to be working there. I’d hope for his sake that he would be fired soon to end his personal agony. The food lacked finesse. The beetroot and feta salad needed a touch of acid. The pork belly main was imbalanced because of an overdose of umami. The salted caramel pannacotta was good but was accompanied by only a slice of slightly charred peach but could’ve done with the roasted peach mentioned in the menu. Poor attention to detail with very dirty carpets not cleaned after previous customers"

  • "2 of us went here before out flight at the beginning of the week and I couldn't recommend it more. Food was roll isn't, especially for such a reasonable price and waiting staff were very attentive and efficient. Food came within about 10 minutes and all tasted great!"
    dined on 01/10/2013
  • "Everything in this review needs to be taken in the context that this is an airport restaurant. Food was fast, 35 minutes for 3 course. Course were very tasty but small. All in all terrific value for an airport restaurant."

  • "Comming fom Nassau we had 3 hours to spend at the airport. We found the food excellent ant the service very professional. The seebass was really good and the crab on toast delicious."

  • "I like the concept and location of the restaurant, facing the airport apron. I did not have to wait too long for my food and it is delicious! Very suitable for passengers running to catch a flight. They do picnic takeways too, which I find really cool. Bravo Plane Food! Keep it up."

  • "Brilliant food- we were there quite early so we had breakfast. Also ordered take out picknic which was an outstanding value and quality comparing to the food actually offered on the plane. Big disappointment was service. The staff were polite but it was hard to attract anybody's attention. Never saw the same person twice and it wasn't that busy. I always leave a generous tip but resent it being automatically added to the bill. Can't help but wonder if staff don't feel they actually have to earn the tip as I don't think anyone would go through the embarrassment of disputing the amount once the bill comes."

  • "We walked in, crumbs all over the floor around our table. Get a Hoover guys! Food was average, nothing special.ha the crab to start which was ok- good but not what you'd expect of Ramsay- then a fish main with samphire which was one of the worst dishes I have ever tasted - it's something I regularly order so it's not a case that I didn't like it. Bland- and tasted of sea water. Not a pleasant experience.good wine though. This place is ok, but that's it- don't have any expectation, you will be sorely disappointed."

  • "Once through security it's nice to have somewhere that you can relax and get some good food whilst waiting for your flight. It's not cheap but the quality is very good and the surroundings by pleasant."

  • "Met with friends for lunch prior to a short haul flight - an excellent meal. Ordered 2 picnic takeaways for flight - food also excellent. Cool bags and dishes used over and over again while on holiday - excellent value. As a matter of course I will now always meet friends at Plane Food and order picnic bags for inflight catering."
