Restaurant very crowded - tables only 2 inches apart. Ordered the Aubrey Steak for two - came pre sliced on a cold board. Hence meat did not stay warm for more than a few minutes. Complained to the waiter. No response from anyone for 20 - 30 minutes then a head waiter asked me about my complaint - I explained I had expected hot food - he responded that how we received the food was how Roast served it and flounced off! £72 for a cold steak - very poor and response from staff also very poor.

I have eaten at Roast many times over the years & always enjoyed it but this most recent visit was a real disappointment. It was a very busy Saturday & staff seemed stressed & unable to cope. We hardly had a smile from anyone & had to constantly flag staff down for anything we needed. We felt totally invisible. Food was mediocre. Such a shame.

Even without it's wonderful and unique location in the heart of Borough Market, this restaurant would still be outstanding. The room is big and bustling but without being intrusive, and the high ceilings and huge windows - one with a great view of St Paul's Cathedral - only add to the ambience. The menu is a delight, with a vast array of delicious British-inspired dishes to tempt you. The wine list is extensive, if a little on the expensive side. Finally, the service. I think the service at Roast - and I don't think that we were just lucky - is possibly the best I've experienced in all my 38-years of eating in London.

Visited with parents and was lovely to take them somewhere that was classy without being too much. Had a lovely meal and I had a portion of roast potatoes with mine and there were absolutely outstanding, a week on and we're still talking about them. Highly recommend for all occasions, it might be a bit much if you're in a rush, it is a place wher you should take your time.

The Sunday lunches are 2 hour slots and they waiter was eager to remind us of this although we were only staying for 2 courses so an hour a course would have meant we would have left in plenty of time! Im vegetarian and there were options for me. My boyfriend has the roast beef. He enjoyed it but advised it wasnt the best roast he has had in London which is sad when you cant live up to your restaurant name. The ambience was lovely as was the Aperol Spritz and the other waiters / waitresses were more than friendly to make up for the one we had. Im guessing they are on strict instructions to process us through so you cant really blame his anxiety i guess. We will of course go back but purely for the ambience and location which gives rise to a nice sunday stroll along south bank rather than the food

We expected more extensive menu options. Choice was very poor especially starters. Main course was pork or, ummm, pork, Beef Wellington was off the menu. Bottle of water £7.10 for two bottles. Our guests were visiting from Lincoln and we wanted to impress but were left embarrassed and hungry.

We've had some very enjoyable meals at Roast - and also a couple of disappointments. However on the occasion of my wife's 70th birthday this week, a lunchtime visit to Roast once more left us feeling very satisfied. We had the 28-day aged roast fillet with beef dripping roast potatoes and an enormous Yorkshire pudding, accompanied by a very palatable Malbec (made specially for Roast, apparently). Excellent.

We were a party of 6 celebrating a birthday and went for Sunday lunch. The food was good, and they even produced a birthday candle on the dessert, service was pleasant and friendly, the only downside could have been the long wait between courses, it happened not to be a problem for us as we were very busy talking.

I have been to roast in the past, but am happy to report that this was my best experience to date. The meal was fabulous, good service and the cost of the meal including a carafe of wine for two £108.00 was value for money considering the quality of the meal. We had initially booked to have the set meal, but I didn’t fancy all of the dishes on the set menu so we opted to choose from the ala carte menu. We both had the same which was the pork, mash and veg. The pork crackling was one of the best I have ever tasted. I was actually hesitant to have the pudding as I was completely stuffed, but ordered the crumble anyway. Although scrummy I just couldn’t manage anything else. All in all lovely lunch

Excellent, but one complaint, when we went into the restaurant there were 3 tables for 2 free, when we were shown our table, the table itself was literally 3 inches away from another couples table, before we sat we asked the waitress could we sit at one of the other 2 tables free, she replied that they were reserved already, even though one of the tables was not used the whole time we were there. We were sat so close to the other couple we felt we were invading their personal space, and I don't think it felt comfortable for them or us. It's not a big deal but it was a small thing that could easily have been resolved, excellent otherwise!

We had a business lunch here, the food was great although the waiter mis-heard the type of beef that we wanted so we ended up with roast beef rather than steak. Apart from that the service was excellent. We sat up in the conservatory type area which was very hot behind all the glass, when we went to leave the bar area was much cooler. I would remomend asking for a seat on the lower level

Lovely environment with the huge window, bathing the restaurant in light, and then very atmospheric at night time. On the evening we dined there was an event in the bar with live music, whilst enjoyable as a diner, it did mean that everyone had to talk very loudly in order to be heard, which meant that there was no room for an intimate gathering. Service was good with friendly staff, and attentive almost to the point of distraction! This is the third time I've visited Roast, the food is still good, not amazing, but good. But for the price of the set menu (£30 for 3 courses) you really can't complain.

We went to Roast for our anniversary. It was a Thursday, so had the Thursday special of Roast Suckling Pig, it was exceptional. For our starters we had the Wood Pidgeon & the Scotch Egg & enjoyed them very much. There was a very nice complimentry touch for our anniversary, a plate was decorated with chocolate wishing us a 'Happy 5th Anniversay' with a bowl of Ice Cream. Thank You Roast.

Beautiful restaurant overlooking Borough Market, plenty of natural lighting through many of the large glass windows. Food was great and in generous portions. Pork dish was marvellous, Roast does it again. Sticky toffee pudding was heavenly!! However, service (or the lack of it) almost ruined our meal. Wait staff came off as judgemental and was less attentive than desired and had to ask for water twice. We also waited at least 20 mins between starter and main. Possibly overworked due to the lunch crowd, service really needs improvement. Will be back for the food.

Second time, I've personally been to ROAST within the past two months, my wife took me there for my birthday in mid-August, which was a great experience, top drawer food & very professional service. Liked it so much, I booked up for a party of twelve friends; again another fantastic nigh & meal. They fell in love with the restaurant - every aspect, the service, professionalism, ambience, entertainment, food everything!!! When I initially saw the name ROAST, I thought of a carvery, but 100% very far from that kind of establishment. ROAST is classy, very personal & welcoming to all their customers....Both the A La Carte & Party menu is of the highest quality.

Very noisy inside - we had to shout to be heard on the other side of the table. Food descriptions poor - Scotch Burford Brown egg with Macsween's haggis and piccalilli was an ordinary Scotch egg with piccalilli - no sign of any haggis. The oysters were good, but at £16.50 we expected more than 3 scallops. No crackling with the roast belly of pork. The partridge was tough and sinewy. At the prices charged vegetables should be included, not extra. The wine list was mostly expensive. Having set a limit of £25.00 for mains, our bill for 4 starters,6 mains,2 desserts,4 bottles of Pinot Blush @ £24.50,coffees and a few beers was £399.99. I think Roast is trading on its name and location, not on its food quality. The service though was good.
