A word from Rogano
Rogano has been established in Glasgow as a seafood restaurant for over 70 years. The main restaurant serves a wide variety of locally caught fish and shellfish, delicately prepared by our dedicated team of chefs. Lobster thermidor and oysters rockefeller are a speciality.
Cafe Rogano offers less formal dining with a bistro style menu and a fantastic pre-theatre selection. The oyster bar is where people come to see and be seen. A chilled glass of champagne is always on hand, perfect to wash down the oysters.

  • "I love eating at this restaurant! Whether it's for something quick in the oyster bar or for a full 3 course dinner in the restaurant I've never been disappointed. The food is outstanding and is matched by the great service. It feels like a special occasion each time I go but doesn't feel pretentious and is able to create a comfortable ambiance. I get married this week and as soon as the wedding is out the way this will be the first place we come to to treat ourselves.5 stars all the way."

They did not rush us, but everything was cleared smoothly and efficiently. The last pleasure was the bill. It was less than I had expected when booking, and a bargain for the evening's experience.   • "Delicious food on the whole, although my roast salmon was certainly overcooked but everyone of the party of 5 enjoyed theirs. One major issue though is that we were there for a business lunch and the service was really really slow We waited for 15 minutes to pay our bill. We waited 15 minutes to make our orders and waited 15 minutes to get our first course. 45 minutes of doing not a lot which made the lunch last 90 minutes for 2 courses and a glass of wine. Food was good though and the ambience was great. It was pretty busy for monday lunchtime too"

  • "Myself and husband visited Glasgow to go to a concert in the Hydro (great venue) and decided to have a Saturday night at Rogano. We certainly didnt regret our decision. Cullen skink was absolutely fantastic and john dory lovely - with a far bigger portion than i wold have expected.My husband had veal 3 ways and it was really good too - tea and petite fours was all i could manage after a sumptuous meal, but i have it on good authority that the pudding was great. One negative note and it is already mentioned here is the toilets. WOW they are really bad. Im sure the restaurant must make enough profit to go in there and sort it out. Not only old and dirty looking but smelly too with overflowing bins."

  • "Visited the Rogano on Sat & as always the food & service were excellent, no complaints here. Always a nice touch to get your free appetisers before your starters arrive! The only minor thing i would say is that i think it was darker than normal in the main restaurant, in fact i saw one lady using the light from her phone to read the menu at one stage. But as always, we both loved it and will be back."

  • "We took visiting friends from the US out for dinner on a cold damp Tuesday night so wanted somewhere a little special and that would still have some atmosphere mid-week. Rogano was just the ticket. I love the look of the place anyway, but the food was also great (I went for the classics, Cullen Skink and Lemon Sole), the wine was great and quite reasonably priced and we were made to feel very welcome. There were a couple of delays in service later on but those were clearly mistakes and not representative of the approach."

Think they thought us too girlie to need the list. I do enquire and staff don't get all the service charge which I hate. But we had a good night."

  • "We seem to be going through a phase of bad meals. Rogano is one of our Glasgow faves, but not this time. We had very nice livers as a starter. My wife's main of rabbit with prunes was very chewy and bland, not like Belgian style, she didn't finish it. My Sole had to be sent back as it was way overcooked. The 2nd was loaded with masses of salt and still overcooked (and tiny). Did not have desserts, but the petit fours and coffee were good. Rogano did not charge us for the mains, so appreciated that. On the plus side they did offer an alternative amuse bouche to one with scallops. Overall, disappointed, usually so good. Better next time."

  • "We have had lunch here twice in the last 8 days prior to a matinee at the King's theatre. As on previous occasions we enjoyed the experience and found the fixed price menu perfectly satisfactory without recourse to the a la carte. Our only caveat is that service was a little slow. I wish that restaurants would ask their customers whether they are in for a leisurely meal or have some engagement later requiring a specific departure time. We did enjoy ourselves and we will go again and recommend it to others; just wish all restaurants would take up my suggestion."

The waiters are a bit remote and lacking in oomph - if someone is waiting for a guest why not offer some bread and a drink.... Lunch special of gravadlax - rather small helping and bream was good. coffee and petit fours good too - will be back to sample the real menu though"

  • "The service was very brusque, there was no friendly effort - no 'good evening' or usual civility, just a 'what do you want?', from behind my chair very loudly actually made me jump! My husband v expensive steak was very salty to the point of indelible and the hollandaise sauce had split. On the bill at the end was a hefty 12.5% added gratuity. No we didn't complain as we were out for a rare night out, kid free, and did not want to ruin the night, will definitely not be rushing back or recommending others do. My husband said the gents toilets were also some of the worst he had been in!"

  • "I was looking for a place to take my girlfriend while in Glasgow and was able to make a booking the same day. Service was truly exceptional in every way and the food was delightful. All of the fish dishes were fresh and well prepared; the lemon sole is to die for. The wine list is extensive and represents a good range of price points for those who aren't experts or looking to spend a small fortune. The decor is certainly reminiscent of times gone by, but elegant nonetheless. Would definitely recommend."

  • "having always known about the restaurant finally went to eat here! it was every bit lie stepping back in time, classic décor. pre dinner cocktails lovely, waiter was great set us up nicely for the food. food was great good selection of seafood dishes. very tasty presentation could be modernised but all tasted great. liked the scallop bisque amuse bouche, bouillabaisse was worth having, the missus scallops were good too. defiantly worth going to."

  • "I was with my partner who had visited several times before although a few years ago, this would be my first. He had been recommended not to go back now. We had a comment made to us by a restaurant manager in the hotel we were staying the night before that Roganos had had it's day. Well! Absolute perfection!....from the welcome, the attentive service throughout, the speed, the quality, the fruit de mer was to die for as was the lobster Thermidor. Portions were super-sized and did not need a starter although the scallops and smoked salmon were sublime. You cannot visit Glasgow without a meal at Roganos. This topped a dream day after visiting Jack Vettriano's Retro at the Kelvingrove and Rennie MacKintosh at Uni of Glasgow. Amazing."

  • "We had high hopes for lunch on Sunday, as had been quite a few times over the years and enjoyed delicious food. The service from start to finish was lacking, with basic etiquette ovelooked. To our surprise a service change of 12.5% was added to our bill, which was excessive given we were a party of 3! We dined on the a la carte menu and were severely disappointed, all dishes were overpriced, and the quality of the food was poor. The restaurant has definitely gone downhill, and we will not be returning. Take your money elsewhere."

  • "Lovely meal on Valentine's night. Restaurant very busy, obviously, and quite noisy, but a good lively atmosphere. Service very quick and efficient. They have a separate vegetarian menu (which we didn't need) but this is unusual, as normally menus only mark suitable dishes with a "V". Good wine list with several moderately priced wines. Received both a phone call and email reminding me of our booking beforehand."

  • "Always a good bustling atmosphere and a good experience. Service was generally good and friendly despite the restaurant being full, although the bar seemed to be performing a bit below par. Kitchen also forgot to send up the side dish for my wife at the same time as the mains but was quick to remedy this. One point which we have also previously noted: a close eye needs to be kept on the toilets as in both Ladies and Gents the paper towel waste bin was overflowing and the general cleanliness of the toilets could have been better especially as it was still early evening."

  • "I booked lunch as a birthday treat for my partner. The service was excellent and the timing of the courses was spot on. We took the special of 'John Dory' and we were a bit disappointed. The fish was over cooked and a bit dry. I am not a big eater but managed to eat all of it as the portion was relatively small. It was all right but we won't rush back. Piccolo Mondo on Argyle St is much better value"

  • "Table was ready with pre-ordered drinks. Waiters were attentive and polite and experienced. Both ordered the John Dory fish. Mushrooms were very rubbery and could not be cut with the fish knife - left. The mashed potatoes were weirdly covered with something which made them quite dry and tasteless. However when mentioned to the waiter he apologised. Restaurant offered us a complimentary sweet but we only asked for coffee. Restaurant came over with a surprise dish of small sweets on a plate with Happy Birthday written on it. That was a very nice touch."
