Not quite the Michelin star quality you have dotted about London but very nice tasty food on the all. Pork belly scampi was nice but not quite mind blowing but the vegetarian turnovers and potato and leek soup with Wensley dale bon bons were delicious. Only real downer was we and several other tables had to approach the staff on more than occasion as we were left sitting unattended and thirsty.

Went to Scoff & Banter to have a quick bite pre-theatre. I really liked the look of the Ploughmans, and the waiter certainly sold it to me. However they came back 5mins later to tell me they had none left. Gutted! I went for the cheddar and shallot turnovers, which were pleasant, but quite small! Fellow diners had the chicken & ham with peas (delicious, but also not massive), and the fish and chips. Both of those meals were well received. Nice location for people watching on the side of Leicester Sq, can imagine it might get very busy of a weekend (we were there on a Monday). Good service, although we did have to chivvy them along to bring our food and pay so we could get to the theatre. Good location for several of the main theatres.

I'm afraid I need to complain about the booking as Scoff & Banter were not made aware of my booking and apparently their chef doesn't arrive until 12pm so my booking at 11am shouldn't have been possible. We therefore had to have breakfast instead of the two course lunch we were planning.

A good location, and nice outside table was available when we got there, however they claimed to have no evidence of our booking, and wanted a print out of what I had booked. There then seemed to be some confusion as to if they in fact had the 'Pink afternoon tea' or not. We eventually managed to order what we had booked online, although it is not what arrived at our table, we were just served the regular tea, The scones were lovely, although some jam to go on the would have been nice, the rest of the food was just ok. A tea menu would have been useful but not available. Staff were very slow, and we found it difficult to get what we had asked for, or order anything else. very disappointed, we won't be going back.

On arrival to the restaurant my party of 3 were ignored. We then progressed in to the restaurant and spoke to 3 people before being seated. We were not asked for reservation details and sat at a table with no cutlery. When i informed the waiter that we were on the toptable offer he simple handed me the set menu option. I must admit at this point I was ready to leave the restaurant but fortunately a waitress took over our table and the service did in fairness improve. Due to poor service at this restaurant i cant say i would return to this particular restaurant however the food was lovely so i would try another location.

We were shown to a table by one of the waitresses. Once we sat down, nobody approached to offer us menus and drinks therefore we left after 20 minutes of 'no service'. In addition, the restaurant looked untidy and needing a revamp.

Started off very poorly. Waitress was not attentive or even noticed us standing there when the restaurant only had one other diner. Service was very poor and slow, despite it being empty. The food was good, but we could not enjoy it as we had to rush to get to the theatre in time. Would not recommend to anyone who likes a good level of customer care and service, but if you have time to waste and nothing to do, then perfect place to go as the food is good.

We booked for the pre theatre option as it was near to the theatre. I have to say that it was a very pleasant surprise that the service was excellent, the food superb from the set menu and the surroundings were very good. This was our first time at a Scoff & Banter restaurant so I didn't know what to expect but it was very good and I would go there again and also recommend them to family & friends.

Biggest let down was service. Took an age just to be asked our drinks order - and after two attempts at ordering new drinks because they didn't have crushed ice to make a mojito nor peach to make a Bellini, we had to then wait another age just to receive them. Then the food took forever to arrive and we wasn't asked if we wanted another round of drinks once we had finished our first round. Shepherds Pie and steak were luke warm (veggie was hot though), jam roly poly was mostly sponge and came with a thimble of custard. All this and the restaurant was about 30% full. It's not hard to get it right when you're that empty! We requested they take the service charge off the bill and didn't pay a tip. I have NEVER had to do that before.

Our arrival didn't augur well as the waitress did not seem to have heard of Top Table, however once we had been seated and looked at the menu things got better. We chose from the set menu at £17.50 per person. We had Crab and Fennel fritters, fennel chips and lemon mayo. The other starter was Leek and potato soup with Wensleydale bon bons, these turned out to be deep fried pieces of Wensleydale. Both starters were delicious. We both then opted for the Crispy skinned sea bass, emulsion of kale and prawns with smoked potato purée. This also was very nice. The staff and manager were very friendly and we went off the the theatre feeling happy.

A friend and I booked through toptable but the restaurant weren't expecting us l, so it wasn't a good start to the lunch. As such we were seated in a corner, miles away from anyone else which didn't do much for the ambience of the place. The waiter brought us the wrong drinks and we found the waiting staff to be pretty surly. Still, 10/10 for the crushed velvet armchairs and the Hampshire hotel is a nice venue overall. Food was ok. I had the shepherds pie. Having said that the starter of crab croquette with lemon mayo was more like potato croquettes with hellmans, and my friend's steak was a fatty minute steak, which certainly wasn't expected, as it was avertised just as steak and chips. Overall? Thumbs down.

The food was decent and definitely scoff-able. Commendable value for money set menu. Given the name we thought the venue would be more relaxed and casual for a family evening get together centrally located to the tourist attraction. However the let down was that it really wasn't a "bantery" type of place - Typified a stale hotel restaurant/ a working dinner in suits environment. Bit of a shame considering it's prime location in the centre of town.

A great location on Leicester Square where one can watch the world go by. The food was very well presented - when it arrived! It wasn't so much as the waiting staff, but the kitchen appeared to be really slow. The restaurant wasnt busy, but it took nearly three quarters if an hour before our starter arrived and then at least a further half hour after our starters were cleared before the main course arrived. Our meal lasted two hours - for two courses! A great pity because the food was very good. I wouldn't want to be having a pre-theatre meal at this pace. If the kitchen improves its timings, I would have no trouble recommending this place.

I booked Scoff & Banter for my 30th Birthday with a group of none close friends. I wanted somewhere different to the usual Nandos/Byron etc and found S&B on a Google search. It was a central venue and the menu looked quirky a d had something for everyone. When we got to the restaurant it was relatively quiet for 7pm but this was no bad thing. However, we ended up seating ourselves at the table due to the two waitresses floating around and not coming over to assist even though we had been stood there en mass for around five minutes. Other than that, the evening went well and the food was great (though portion size on some of the dishes could do with bring slightly larger.) Overall the evening was pleasant enough and I'd probably go back.

Meeting up with two close friends for the first time in 2 months - I booked this as we usually go to the same places so we were all quite excited to be dining in a Leicester Square hotel. How disappointed we were. We were shown to a table with sofa seats which moths were flying out of. The deal I booked through TT was advised by the waitress that it was no longer available so why was it still advertised we asked, however after explaining our booking deal twice over, we were then given another deal. The food was also a let down, both the starter & main courses were salty and the price of a 1 litre bottle of water at nearly £5 was disgusting. This was a very disappointing venue & we will definitely not be returning.

I enjoyed eating at Scoff & Banter, despite its cringeworthy name and the fact that there it's not easy to find. It's in a prominent place on Leicester Square, but the name doesn't appear anywhere obvious. It's to the right of the entrance to the hotel, if you're wondering. The food was tasty. I had a fresh-tasting fish and chips, my fiancée a flavoursome though slightly salty sheperd's pie. Starters were nicely presented without being outstanding, flavour-wise. All in all, a pleasant experience and not a bad choice if you are in the area for a theatre evening as we were.

When I booked the restaurant it was called the 'Hampshire Bar and Grill', when I got there the menu and the wait staff told me it was called 'Trunk' and now I'm being asked to rate 'Scoff & Banter' (which is by far the best name!) Whatever it's called, the food was lovely, I went for a family lunch and all our meals looked and tasted wonderful. I have given the service a score of 'outstanding' because the staff were impeccable in every way and even coped well with my uncle who is a cantakerous old goat (with the greatest of respect!).

The restaurant was not if fact named this, which made finding it a bit difficult. The meals were flavoursome, with the group enjoying the fish special, chicken kiev, the lamb, and the red mullet. All meals were on the very small size, and definitely not enough as a main on its own. My dish was the lamb, which was barely an entrée size, and was accompanied by a "smear" of pureed vegetables. It had good flavour, but just not enough and needed something more substantial in the way of accompaniments (steamed veg would have been enough). We did receive our meals with ample time to get to the theatre show, which was very good of the staff to accommodate our request.
