A word from Simpson's In The Strand
Simpson's is one of the few London restaurants offering only the finest quality British ingredients cooked to perfection in classic British style. The restaurant's speciality is Scottish beef on the bone that has been aged for 28 days for maximum flavour. The beef is carved at guests' tables from antique silver-domed trolleys, which is a practice that began over 150 years ago and for which Simpson's is world-renowned. Other Simpson’s signature dishes include classics such as potted shrimps, roast saddle of lamb and steak and kidney pie.

Guests can also enjoy classic cocktails in Knight’s Bar, an art deco cocktail lounge located on the first floor. It is the perfect place to enjoy either a pre-dinner cocktail or after-dinner aperitif.

We booked for 7 people and although we arrived a little early we were seated straight away. The food was excellent and we loved the theatre of having the roast carved at your table. We weren't rushed and were seated for over 3 hours. A lovely dinning experience.

A special birthday treat for my dad - the service was excellent, the food was extraordinary and the venue itself was amazing. A nice touch that we were given a booth and a celebratory dessert was brought out saying "Happy Birthday". I would defnitely recommend this restaurant as a cut above.

Everything to do with the entire night from the moment we got there to the moment we left. Took my 70yr father in law as a birthday surprise and it was extremely wonderful. I was taking a photo of my father in law and his son, and when they asked if I wanted a group one, I said no don't worry, it's his birthday. They noted this and later came out with dessert with a candle in it and happy birthday icing! Superb.

It's wonderfully atmospheric, the food - when it arrives - is top notch, but they have to discontinue the practice of employing codgers who can't see customers. At one stage three tables were waving for bills and being looked through by Mr Unaware setting tables. Often there was no sign of staff at all. Securing a fresh pot of coffee was a major accomplishment. Huge deterioration from previous visits.

Special days in life require special locations. A friend recommended Simpson´s In The Strand and it became a marvellous and outstandig experience. In our days the nicest places in London close down over night. Therefore it is quite difficult to find a handsome location, nice food and a perfect service in one single restaurant. But here you are: The Simpson´s The main course was beef and it was particularly exciting because they cut it on a huge plate on a trolley at our table... The wine list is exquisit and the service pleasantly cautious, which included a delicious birthday surprise. All in all the perfect location for a special occasion.

I have visited Simpsons in the Strand in the past, and enjoyed it thoroughly. But my breakfast meeting there was a poor. the room smelt of damp and rotting carpet, and there was absolutely no atmosphere and very few customers. Until I hear that somebody has decided to redecorate and put some care into the dining experience, I won't be back. The food was ok and service passable, but for an establishment of this name and age it should be much better. perhaps one of the management should pop over to The Delauney and see how its done......

Superb location for a business meal. The tables are well spaced and ones to the side of the cavernous dining hall separated by partitions providing a degree of privacy. The whole experience is one of stepping back in time and not necessarily bad for that. Service was good and attentive but a little amateurish. Food was good but very basic, like a sunday roast lunch. Large helping of very good meat on a plate, roast potatoes, cabbage and gravy. Nothing wrong with it but a bit more imagination with the accompaniments could have elevated the experience considerably. So, not a destination for gastronomy but enjoyable nevertheless and perfect if relaxed conversation is important.

This was traditional English food at its best. Both meat and vegetables were extremely tasty and cooked to perfection. Staff were very friendly and warned us that some of our selections would take some time: that's because they were being cooked especially for us: that was what we had hoped for: we had allowed plenty of time and wanted a leisurely lunch. This not an American fast food experience in any way shape or form. Prices high but it was a special occasion.

Fist visit for many years and first since reopening. People visit Simpsons for the Roast Beef and Saddle of Lamb (Mutton in the old days). Were were informed that they had run out of Saddle of Lamb at lunch time and were now offering Leg of Lamb. Ridiculous for an establishment that has built its reputation on cooking and serving large cuts of meat. Anyone can cook a leg of lamb - you need special ovens to cater for a saddle. The service as good The price outrageous. Since Fairmont have come into the picture it would seem that Simpsons has become a tourist clip joint. My advice: Walk on by.

We had a very thick Mushroom soup and a Hot Crab starter followed by roast Lamb Fillet of Beef Wellington and a Grilled Dover Sole. My wife (who had the crab starter and Roast Lamb) was ill most of the night with almost permanent residence in the toilet. The Dover sole was supposed to be grilled but looked more like poached and tasteless with the white skin still on. The Wellington was very soggy pastry and the beef too rare (although ordered med-well). A very disappointing evening that spoilt the occasion visiting such an iconic eating house. Once only I am afraid!

I was very disappointed with this posh restaurant. The food was nice, but the experience over all was not great. Roast beef and starters were nice but the Beef Wellington was over cooked, even though we asked for it to be made rare. They took a very very long time to bring our starters and even a longer time to bring our mains. This ruined our dinner, and we did not even bother with dessert. The restaurant was half empty, so you can not blame this on them being very busy. The food was nice (starters and roast beef), but the experience as a whole was not, especially as it is an expensive restaurant where you expect a much better service.

We have been coming to Simpson's since 1963, probably 20 times for dinner. it's more of a tradition than anything else. How a restaurant that bills itself as an Edwardian institution can totally eliminate a dress code is bewildering. For evening dinner,at the table next to us was a group of 4. While the ladies were neat and proper, one of the men wore a T shirt and jeans and whenever he leaned forward he displayed the label on his underpants. The other man wore a rumpled shirt with 3 buttons down the front undone. Fewer than half the men wore jackets. The food and service were average, so with declining ambiance, I question the reason to return

I have been coming to Simpson's in the Strand for years. It has never been less than excellent. During my last visit, I was there with another old hand and a first-time visitor. We were all completely delighted by every part of our meal—the decoration, the service, and most of all the truly delightful food. We are long past the days when English Cuisine was a joke, but Simpson's reminds us that it was always a parody. Well-prepared roast beef, Yorkshire pudding, and potatoes made from the freshest ingredients is always worth eating. Simpson's makes it truly wonderful. Besides, my companions were just as pleased by the trout and other dishes as I was by the beef. Simpson's has high standards and a classic style, but it is not at all stuffy.

The meal started out ok and just went down hill from there. The Italian looking Maître d reprimanded the people carving the meat in front of us at our table and actually took meat off of one of my guests plates before giving it to him. He also dragged the tails of his coat across another plate of food just prior to it being served . Now, I've eaten at far better places than this and all of them exhibit good manners and discretion. I have never, ever had such bad manners exhibited, anywhere at any time. The man should have been fired on the spot.

in 30 years ... am think i recognised a member of staff! No change in decor, even the cutlery and salt and pepper cruet are the same. The food is good , better than it used to be... the service I am afraid, although friendly was abysmal. Nice waiter overwhelmed by the sudden influx of a large group of japanese tourists. I may come back in another 30 years... masking sure I have plenty of time to spare.
