A word from Skylon
Skylon Restaurant in London’s landmark Royal Festival Hall is a hot destination eatery. Inspired by the emblematic sculpture of the 1951 Festival of Britain, Skylon is a stylish restaurant on a grand scale, with formal dining room, smart casual grill and centerpiece bar, each a blend of 1950’s-inspired chic and modern design, all with sweeping Thames panoramas through floor-to-ceiling windows. Executive Chef, Adam Gray describes his food as modern British – simple, honest and with a sometimes unusual twist on classic dishes. Skylon is an exciting restaurant for events at the Royal Festival Hall – its bubbling, vivacious ambience sets the tone for pre- or post-event dining. The sommeliers are renowned for the excellence of their knowledge and the charm and ease with which they guide you to great quaffing decisions. Skylon is the metropolitan experience as it should be: refined cuisine, intriguing wines, high culture and heart-lifting views.Continued

  • "I had forgotten about this restaurant! Had eaten here once before for business.... Ths time wanted something for our family... Perfect... Great way to see the sun go own over the Thames and London.... ...from daylight to twinkly night.. Can beat any city! Food excellent. Portion sizes perfect ... Lovely staff with all the orchestra you would expect from the best restsurants... Asked for a window seat at the last minute.. And we got one...I would definitely recommend doing this! Atmspghere is relaxed even for our bejeaned 15 year old... Everything was very special... "

  • "Good quality food, which gives the impression of subtle preparation. Presentation excellent, and ambience lovely especially from a table with a river view"

  • "Had a most enjoyable meal; with excellent service which was unobtrusive yet attentive. We chose from the a-la-Carte menu and food was cooked to perfection. The view from our table by the window was spectactular. Wine pricey but excellent."

  • "We eat here very often when we are attending something at the Festival Hall - very convenient - although beware - there are no alarms to tell you anything is about to start so must keep your eye on the time. Stunning views. Quite expensive but the food is ok but not really great. We had a dessert to share but it really wasn't very nice and couldn't eat it. The waiter obviously noticed and asked us about it and thanked us for the feedback. Also think they didn't charge us for it on the bill. The service is excellent and can't really fault it. Very efficient - although they can be a bit intimidating! Overall a good experience."

  • "We have been to Skylon on a number of occasions but had not been for a couple of years. Unfortunately during that time the restaurant has gone downhill. The service is still good but having arrived to have pre dinner drinks at the bar we were disappointed to find no space and not being able to get served. The bar was full of non diners. As the bar is in the centre of the restaurant it is very noisy and this was annoying. On our previous visits this was not a problem. The menu is set 2 or 3 courses and is pricey even for London prices at £42 for 2 courses. There is little choice so check the menu first especially if you have allergies. I do and I was limited. Portions are very small so be warned!"

  • "Food was great, well presented and prompt, which we needed for our pretheatre booking. The really outstanding feature of this restaurant was the service: very friendly but highly professional and attentive staff. really made us feel relaxed and welcome despite the business of the dining space at this hour. Wonderful light and spacious room added to a great ambience and view of the Thames. Great experience."

  • "Both my wife and enjoyed our meal at Skylon the service was fantastic with multiple staff serving us none of which were stuffy or uppity towards us infact we even had a good laugh when they tried to give us coffee before our mains! The food was lovely and the cocktails were fantastic all in all a little expensive and I imagine it could be a little noisy at times for an intimate dinner but well worth a visit. We"

  • "Booked a table for my friend's birthday lunch, had added in 'special instructions' what the occasion was and requested a table by the window if possible. Was delighted that this request was carried out, and my friend was greeted with a 'happy birthday' from the member of staff who welcomed us. She was also presented with a delightful plate of small deserts at the end. Fantastic attention to detail, thoroughly delightful experience - for the food and overall. Perfect blend of class and warmth."

  • "Went to skylon mid-week with friends for dinner. It's a nice restaurant generally benefitting from amazing views across the thames. We ate from the a la carte (no special offer) (3 courses came to 90 pounds each with 2 cocktails) and felt really like we were paying Michelin prices but not for Michelin standard. - Food was generally quite good, but some strange combinations on the menu made it difficult to choose. Desserts were the best - Cocktail menu is extensive and extremely good - Our server was very inexperienced and could not explain some parts of the menu Generally would only reccomend eating here if you can get a special offer to make it more worth it"

  • "Stunning view and easy to find. Service was hard to beat in London restaurants. Very attentive, professional and french/discrete in style. Food was oustanding. creative and more importantly delicious, portions not massive which i like. very impressed possibly my favourite London restaurant now ( and i am old and lived here for 20 years) Really enjoyed the post dinner espresso martini looking at the amazing view."

  • "Food portions tiny! Food and wine overpriced. The bill for 7 was £442 Would not reccommend this restaurant.Rip-off. I imagine they charge what they do and provide small portions because they think they can get away with it. I requested a window seat for the seven of us for a special occassion. Not provided. Overall awful."

  • "We booked last minute because we'd been unsuccessful booking dinner at the Shard, I'm so glad we ended up at Skylon instead. My partner and I arrived early and still were seated straight away by the window, the waiters were attentive and friendly, also very helpful in assisting us on the best cocktail and wine choices. Each dish was delicious, I'll definitely be returning."

  • "service-superb,food- frankly a disgrace at that price. ambience-excessively noisy. shant come again."
    dined on 05/04/2014
  • "Whilst the restaurant and service would be considered top quality I was shocked by the 'old fashioned' style of service my partner and I received. I was not spoken to all night by the waiter, who only addressed my male partner. Even when paying the bill it was put down in front of my partner and on this occasion I paid. For such a modern restaurant which prides itself on service I find this appalling, offensive and old fashioned"

  • "It is not the first time for us to come to Skylon. We love the food there and the atmosphere is really great. We would definitely recommend it as a venue for a Sunday lunch and even pre-theatre drinks, they have a nice bar in the restaurant). The staff are very friendly and always help with the choice of dishes and good wine. The quality of food is excellent."

  • "Fanastic lunch in a beautiful venue. Took my girlfriend for a romantic meal and spent well over 2 hours here. Asked to be seated by the window ovrrlooking the Thames when booking and despite being told they couldn't guarantee this, my requesst was honoured. Had three course set lunch menu. Very happy with all three courses especially the pudding! The service at the table was faultless. We were really tended too without being interrupted. I loved my visit. Only thing I'd mention is that the reception ladies, especially the one who seated us, implied by their facial expression that they were completely bored with their job and life in general but I found it more amusing than anything else. Overall highly recommended!!!"

  • "Skylon boasts a great view, very attentive service and an expansive and interesting wine list. The service is excellent and the food is very good but compared to other fine dining restaurants in Central London overpriced and I would recommend going for the Grill next door which has the same view but at a fraction of the price."

  • "My dining partner was so impressed at my choice of restaurant and they didn't disappoint - the food and service were amazing. I love fish and the range of fish was impressive. The food is presented very creatively and there is a good variety in the menu . Pettit four were served with coffee on a three tier high serving dish so you don't have to order dessert if you only want something small"

  • "Great setting, but ask for a table by the window for the best views."
    dined on 10/07/2013
  • "Nice atmosphere and attentive waiting staff. The food was nice and the menu had a good balanced selection. You really are paying for the view, and perhaps I questioned the value overall. But would go back for special occasions."

  • "Really enjoyed being at Skylon on an early Friday evening for a friend's birthday dinner. Not cheap but didn't expect it to be. Service was very professional, friendly but not obsequious. The food was imaginative and delicious. The view was wonderful and the cocktails were great. Possibly the best thing was the quiet: so many restaurants are clangy, reverberating halls of noise. There were other diners there but their conversation didn't intrude on ours - very important! An excellent place for a once-in-a-while special treat."

  • "Fantastic attentive service catering to our every need.. Lovely food and wine even on Mother's Day with a restricted menu! The only aspect that could have been better was that the blinds were closed obstructing the wonderful riverside view we had chosen the restaurant for."
    dined on 30/03/2014
  • "We were lucky enough to get a last minute booking for Mother's Day, there must have been a cancellation. Even better we had a window table. This is such a lovely dining room, a mixture of classiness, modernity and tradition. The design is understated but classy and complete down to the last detail. Even my kids noticed how beautiful the place settings were, china napkin rings matching the plates, simple glassware. The service was impeccable and friendly and the food absolutely lovely. 100% recommended."

  • "Food, service and atmosphere lived up to the usual excellence, notwithstanding an extremely busy service. We especially liked the special lunch menu - and the food lived up to this."
    dined on 30/03/2014
  • "We had a fantastic night here. I am a fussy eater but the food was superb and the waiters catered to your every need. Glass never empty decent portion sizes and for London cheap at the price. Wine was a bit pricey but I expected that. With the view across the river Thames or being able to people watch in the south bank centre I would certainly go back again"
    dined on 28/03/2014
  • "We have returned to Skylon many times for the TT pre theatre offer whilst seeing shows on the Southbank and have never been disappointed. It's a lovely venue overlooking the river. Service is excellent and there is a good three choice offer for each course. Delicious bread and petit fours with coffee made this a delightful experience to be recommended."
    dined on 25/03/2014
  • "Rather than experiencing previous courtesy and a sincere welcome we were greeted on arrival by a brusque woman who clearly had more important things to do. We waited 20 mins to be served an aperitif. The a-la-carte menu was limited in choice but the chosen food was OK but not special. We chose a Puilly-Fusse (a favourite) but this one was insipid and disappointing. At over £40 a bottle I expected better. The staff seemed inexperienced and overwhelmed. I didn't care for them sharing jokes and laughing loudly near my table. Over the years we've had many excellent experiences at Skylon but I'd hesitate before booking again and probably wouldn't recommend the place any more. Apart from the view, Skylon is now just the same as anywhere else."
    dined on 29/03/2014
  • "Good atmosphere and view in restaurant for both business lunches and a drink with friends. Not clear if child friendly. Main course of red mullet a little disappointing as seemed a little bland. Desert of peanut ice cream tasted great although was incredibly frozen and difficult to eat. Will return one more time to try the beef dish and see if my impression changes, if not will stop for drinks only."
    dined on 28/03/2014
  • "Once again, Skylon exceeded every expectation for a pre-concert meal. Stunning setting watching the sun set over the Thames. Tip-top food and wine quality with prompt and discerning service. A delight in every way."
    dined on 27/03/2014
  • "Lovely place, wonderful view. An ordinary lime cordial was very difficult to procure and a soda water with a dash of lime was the first drink that came. Willingly changed. Had to chase up the wine order. However staff very polite, and well trained. Enjoyable lunch time experience with service speed timed nicely and all tables felt very individual."
    dined on 28/03/2014
  • "Despite being busy the service was very good indeed. Friendly and attentive but not rushed."
    dined on 26/03/2014
  • "What a great experience at Skylon, service is first class, food great quality, albeit not in abundance as another review stated, but with such great views and ambience, it's a must for an evening out in London. 3 course for £48 in restaurant offers great choice, better than the pre/post menu. Will definitively revisit."
    dined on 26/03/2014
  • "Food was superb, and made for a thoroughly enjoyable evening. Would definitely return. This is the finest recommendation!!"
    dined on 18/03/2014
  • "As I had hoped, we sat by the window and watched the river traffic, just as I remembered doing fifty or more years ago. The ceremony with which the food was served was fun, and we regarded this meal as a very special treat. I was delighted to be able to afford this rather extravagant meal for my granddaughter."

  • "I have been to the Skylon bar but decided to book the restaurant for a pre-birthday celebration with a friend. Lovely table overlooking the river and the lights of London - atmosphere was great. Food was delicious with enough choice/selection to suit all tastes and the service was brilliant - which meant that we had a thoroughly enjoyable time - pushing ourselves to eat 3-courses as the desserts were not to be missed. Will be returning at the next available special occasion."
