A word from Skylon
Skylon Restaurant in London’s landmark Royal Festival Hall is a hot destination eatery. Inspired by the emblematic sculpture of the 1951 Festival of Britain, Skylon is a stylish restaurant on a grand scale, with formal dining room, smart casual grill and centerpiece bar, each a blend of 1950’s-inspired chic and modern design, all with sweeping Thames panoramas through floor-to-ceiling windows. Executive Chef, Adam Gray describes his food as modern British – simple, honest and with a sometimes unusual twist on classic dishes. Skylon is an exciting restaurant for events at the Royal Festival Hall – its bubbling, vivacious ambience sets the tone for pre- or post-event dining. The sommeliers are renowned for the excellence of their knowledge and the charm and ease with which they guide you to great quaffing decisions. Skylon is the metropolitan experience as it should be: refined cuisine, intriguing wines, high culture and heart-lifting views.Continued

  • "I have been to Skylon Grill and bar a few times but never in the restaurant. We had a wonderful meal and fantastic wine. The complementary dessert tasters with happy anniversary written in chocolate topped it though, very good of them."

  • "Staff very friendly and attentive. Relaxed atmosphere and very pleasant ambiance. Starters and puds very good but those of us who had lamb breast were disappointed, because although tasty it was so fatty and overdone. That was the only problem- everything else was of a high standard and we enjoyed the lunch. I'd like to question why the £7 supplement for a choice of cheese instead of sweet course??"
    dined on 17/08/2014
  • "We chose this to celebrate an anniversary and were not disappointed. With the Evening Standard menu we had an very good quality, well-priced meal. It is such a lovely spot on the river, The ambiance is good and there is a pleasant buzz to the place although at one point the noise from the bar did get a bit much. Friday night! We usually eat in the Brasserie but the restaurant was that bit more special. Very attentive, pleasant staff."

  • "Thursday evening and the grill area was packed and pretty noisy. The restaurant area was more relaxed. We had the Evening Standard offer but the service could not be faulted, thank you! - including a table by the window. Nice views outside but being only on the second floor you don't see the whole river because of the trees ("Skylon" to me implies a little more height!). Food was good - but along the lines you would expect from a special offer. No surprises but very competent. Overall very good value."

  • "This is a pleasant and convenient venue. Marvellous views of the Thames. The atmosphere is buzzy but I thought it was very expensive, especially the drinks. However the food was very good."

  • "Brilliant value for money - we had the evening standard offer. £30 for three courses plus a glass of bubbles. Great table by the window, with river view. Excellent service - the head waiter was extremely knowledgeable, helpful and fun around our children. Will go again. We eat at Skylon twice a year, but with such amazing deals, we will come more often."

  • "Quality food and very attentive and polite staff. Would definitely return for some form of special occasion and would also recommend it to anyone looking for a memorable time. Let us know we're being charged for water next time though!"

  • "Skylon offers fine dining in a pleasant setting overlooking the Thames. Good choice of wine. Service very smooth. A premier venue on the South Bank - well worth a visit irrespective of whether or not you are going to a show at the Royal Festival Hall."
    dined on 09/08/2014
  • "We had the pre-theatre set menu and the food was below average. The service was slow and althought we had good seats and view, the overall experience was average."
    dined on 08/08/2014
  • "Service was very good. Attentive and friendly. Food a very high standard from start to end. The petit fours a nice touch. Dessert was excellent too. Good menu options and wine selection. Would recommend."

  • "The food, ambiance and service were all first class - many thanks for a great evening!"
    dined on 06/08/2014
  • "We went to Skylon without an offer so it was pretty expensive. The service was great, the staff friendly and attentive but the good wasn't particularly special. I had the summer truffle macaroni, which was dry and despite being warned that the truffle was strong, the flavour and seasoning just wasn't there. The peanut chocolate brownie was good but could have done with more saddled caramel sauce. It was relatively noisy due to the bar behind the restaurant, which took away from the ambience somewhat."
    dined on 06/08/2014
  • "The service, ambience and presentation were first-rate. The food was excellent, although some of the portions, especially the main courses, were on the small side. The wine list was excellent, with a wide range and variety of wines. The staff couldn't have been more helpful, courteous and friendly."

  • "The service could not be faulted. The team was well led by the maitre d."

  • "And add to that, service which is friendly and attentive, without being overbearing."

  • "Skylon is one of my favourite restaurants. The views, ambience, food, wine and service are always excellent. Prices are as usual for London but you can be sure that it is excellent value for money. I"

  • "Went for the Evening Standard offer meal which was excellent value. Initially had a misunderstanding over the definition of Chandon bubbly which accompanied the meal but the waiter handled it superbly. Reasonable choice of courses and timing and execution of the food was good. Given a table by the window so excellent views of the river though the room itself is not ideal as a restaurant."
    dined on 28/07/2014
  • "The food is great but £3.85 for an espresso and £4 for a bottled water is just unreasonable really. You don't have to do that - it undermined the fantastic food and service."
    dined on 28/07/2014
  • "Noise outside front of building really spoilt meal. I spent over £350 for pre-theatre meal for 4 and the terrible noise outside front on RFH was really outrageous. Had I been informed this event was happening I would have cancelled my booking."
    dined on 26/07/2014
  • "Another wonderful lunch at Skylon. All the family who were with me had a wonderful time also. Excellent food and highest quality service."

  • "Impressive fixed price menu with glass of champagne which I believe was Moet. Excellent value, excellent food, excellent service and a lovely outlook over the river Thames."

  • "We had a celebration anniversary lunch at the Skylon before going on to the National Theatre. The staff were extremely attentive and the food superb. Particular mention should be made of the best scallops I have ever eaten. Not cheap but a good way to treat yourself!"

  • "I have nothing negative to say. We had a 2 course set menu lunch, served with excellent bread and and unexpected petit four treat. Really good, i look forward to my next visit."

  • "Booked prior to recent Burt Bacharach concert so restaurant was very busy, table was ready on arrival and meal was promptly served by friendly staff. Food was well presented and very tasty, only gripe is that on booking some time well before the event I indicated as a preference for a seat next to the window which was not fulfilled."
    dined on 23/07/2014
  • "Perfect location for a business lunch. Had the top table deal. Very good food. Very nice table by the window. Good value for business meal prices and service was impeccable. Thank you."

  • "It was a business celebration and it could not have been better . Service was very good, the food was delicious and very well presented ."
    dined on 22/07/2014
  • "Skylon has a stunning view of the Thames and the food and service is undoubtedly excellent. It is one of my favourite restaurants for a special occasion. As always the food and service were excellent. However, this visit was spoiled by the restaurant's decision to close the blinds - thereby obscuring the view and leaving everyone to eat in semi-drakness, even though it was bright an sunny outside. Apparently this was to stop the restaurant getting too hot. For the prices Skylon charge they ought to be able to afford decent air conditioning. I will definitely go back, but not in summer."
    dined on 19/07/2014
  • "Excellent food and service! We went to Skylon for my husband's birthday after a recommendation from a friend and it lived up to my expectations and more...we even got window seats! Food and service could not be faulted. They even wrote happy birthday on my husband's dessert in chocolate (candle included! :-) a lovely touch! The food was delicious and I can't wait to go back!"

  • "Four of us had lunch at the restaurant on Saturday and it was thoroughly enjoyable. The location is perfect, the ambience is relaxing with excellent service and it was excellent value for money. The food was well presented and delicious and the portions a manageable size."
    dined on 19/07/2014
  • "This is a pretty noisy place so don't come here for a quiet meal. The view over the Thames is fantastic, especially if you are lucky enough to be seated by the window. All four of us opted for the fixed price two course dinner. We all chose scallops, which for once were served without pig meat of any kind (much to my pescatarian partner's joy). Instead though they came with potato and there was something not altogether pleasant about the combination of textures. My main course of mutton was delicious! The petit fore were probably the best I've had anywhere. We had a slight tussle with the manager over whether or not a 20% discount should have been applied because of our Southbank membership, but it turns out it applies only to lunch."
    dined on 17/07/2014
  • "Three of us met early evening after work and had the pre-theatre menu. I ordered Asparagus with soft egg to start from the veggie menu but received a pea soup with asparagus and a creme fraiche dipping sauce at the side. This was fine but not what I ordered but only realised afterwards so ate it anyway. Asparagus OK but soup was not seasoned enough. Other diners had goats cheese tart and and a salad to start which was excellent. Main courses were veg risotto, pasta and macaroni cheese which was very good. They ran out of Pinot Grigot so we had the sauvignon blanc which went well with the food. Good service and nice atmosphere."

  • "Unhurried atmosphere with exceptional views, attentive service, delicious servings and smart cocktails. A super lunch venue to linger and enjoy."

  • "My brother's graduation was held at the Royal Festival Hall so it was a perfect location to go for a lovely meal at Skylon. We dined from the set lunch menu and enjoyed a glass of champagne. The food was delicious, we even had room for dessert. The staff were very attentive. It was a beautiful setting and a great way to celebrate in style!"
    dined on 16/07/2014
  • "Dinner for three with a friend visiting from the US on Tuesday, July 15. Had a bad feeling from the moment I walked in. The place is filthy - badly stained carpeting, food scraps from prior patrons on the flor in the bar area where we sat for a glad of wine before the meal. Entree (cod) was tiny and bland and scallop starter was bland as well. The only saving grace was the competent and attentive service and the wine selection. Very small pours on the wines by the glass, so make sure to get a bottle!"
    dined on 15/07/2014
  • "what a fantastic space and view! Great food although expected a little bit more for the price. The cherry brulee tart was to die for. Lacking a bit in service. Waited almost 20min for my pre dinner cocktail to arrive."
