Diner Reviews
  • "A very busy pub when we visited, but our table was ready and orders for food and drinks taken promptly by friendly, helpful staff. We we're warned that there was a 45 minute wait on food as the pub was very busy inside and out, but our orders arrived within 10 minutes, all together and perfectly cooked. An extensive menu, good value and with some interesting dishes in addition to the usual pub fare. Portions were hearty and all meals were very tasty. All in all a good experience, the very busy nature of the pub meant that it was bustling and lively, but in its own way a recommendation for the food and value. Staff helpful, friendly and personable."

  • "Unfortunately the whole evening was blighted by my daughter finding a fly floating in her tomato soup starter. No apology was given and no offer for a replacement starter provided although this starter was deducted from the overall bill. Unfortunately this did leave us questioning the overall hygiene of the kitchen. The portion sizes for mashed potato were particularly small as were the vegetable portions but maybe this was a reflection of the reasonable prices."

  • "We have been the past two years on our last day of camping and all was good previously so we booked to go again. Although the service was excellent the food left me feeling rather ripped off. Portion size was very poor. My daughter and I had fish n chips and my son macaroni cheese. The mac cheese barely half filled the bowl and my adult fish and chips was pathetic (you expect a decent sized fish when in a pub). Everything else was fine apart from portions so I'm definitely going to think twice next year as you expect a hearty meal!!"

  • "Good food, good service. Dog friendly (not just tolerant). A lot of children about at this time of year but mainly outside."

  • "We had a very disappointing experience. We had previously visited 8years ago (before kids) and. had a lovely evening. As we were in the area we were keen to return with our children. Our recent visit was a let down. The garden felt worn out andyumm a bit shabby. The kitchen couldn't cope with the peak season demand. Took 15mins to order then over an hour before food was served. When it finally arrived it was poor - under cooked new potatoes, dried out pasty and over cooked crusty fish cakes. Staff we're doing their best but simply couldn't cope. Think staff new it was a bad evening as we didn't notice one single table being asked - 'Is everything OK for you?'"

  • "The food is ok, but nothing special and the service was so slow on both occasions I visited. When you book a table you don't expect to be told that there is a 30 min wait for food and that ended up being 40 mins before we got starters. Location is fantastic but the food and service need improvement"

  • "Outside tables were pretty full, inside only half full. We waited over an hour for our food and about 15 mins for waitress to bring our drinks. Table next door had similar experience and asked to see the manager. She said sorry, of course, but they were extremely busy. Oh what a shock, the most popular pub for miles surrounded by many campsites and holidaying families, and they're extremely busy. Not enough staff more like. Won't go there again."

  • "The Smugglers Inn is right on the South West Coast Path, they have plenty of tables inside and out and serve a varied menu and range of Badger beer. The staff were friendly and helpful and the pub is dog friendly throughout, what's not to like!"

  • "On arriving the table was in darkness as the bulbs had blown in the lights and the first reaction given by staff was sorry but there is nothing we can do. After having to ask several staff members they were able to find a replacement bulb but they were not overly friendly after this. Then to make things more uncomfortable one of the meals ordered from the 9 people eating had been forgotten and we had to wait whilst this was rectified. im not one to complain but I just felt that having made the booking 2 weeks before and for the size of the party they could have been a little more helpful."

  • "The Smugglers Inn is a brilliant pub in a stunning location. The staff are always friendly (we have visited twice now, once in autumn and once in early summer), and the food, which changes seasonally, is always lovely. There are lots of vegetarian options and especially appreciated is the option available for some meals to get a slightly smaller portion - leaving room for the marvellous and very generously portioned puddings! Top tip: book! We visited at half past 6 in the evening and already the pub was full, walking past at lunch times it always seems packed as well."

  • "The Smugglers Inn is in a stunning location over looking Weymouth bay. The food is delicious, 4 of us went and no-one had anything bad to say. The service was great too."

  • "Some short points - Small lasagne is tiny! Took 20 mins for drinks order to come and we had to chase it After asking for the bill we waited 15 minutes and gave up and qued up with the pub orders to pay The quality of good is good Fairly good value Lovely setting"

  • "We went there twice this weekend. The first night we just had a drink and the second night we had reserved a table to eat. It was very very busy. The food was ok and the waiters were friendly however we waited almost an hour for a pint of beer and our deserts. When they came they had left the meringue out of my lemon meringue mess! All in all, i would stay clear of Saturday nightdress in the summer"

  • "The smuggler's Inn is the picture perfect country pub you always imagine in the Dorset countryside. The food is traditional pub food but with a good selection of specials and fish to go with the main main menu. The food is fantastic, particularly the Smugglers pie which is choc full of meat. The value is fantastic as our meal was for two adults and a child and came to £60 for 3 courses and drinks. If it's a nice day you can eat, or drink in the fantastic garden to the front of the pub. Brilliant pub in a brilliant setting. We always visit when on holiday down here."

  • "We booked a table of 8 persons for 5.15 pm, two of the options requested from the daily special were unavailable and one of the only three vegetation options on the main menu was also unavailable. the food was no better than a traditional 2 for 1 pub chain and cost twice as much, the portions were average except for the ice cream these were the smallest scoops I have ever encountered, and the small sweets at £2 a time really are small, barely two mouthfuls. There were a lot of children dining and the children's menu seemed to be causing a lot of problems, adult meals scaled down do not suit all children although they might be healthy. "

  • "We had lunch and dinner on 2 different days and both meals were very good. The service on each occasion was excellent and it is hard to beat the ambiance of the Inn. Stayed at the hotel many years ago and it seems not to have changed much which is a big part of its charm. Would thoroughly recommend for any occasion and wish I lived closer so could go often. • "i e mailed my request for a special evening meal not knowing if i would get a response but when we got there everything had been organised an my wife was truely impressed that the waitress knew it was her birthday. the waitress was super efficient and extremely polite. the special ending to the evening was lit candles in our desserts. lovely touch. we have been there 10 years on the trot and it just gets better either at lunch or evenings thank you all see you again soon"

  • "Was kept being told that's sold out and what was on offer was very small portions and poor quality food. Staff had no idea what was going on, We had to complain three times. There was 6 of us in our party and 3 meals came out then ten minutes later the rest of our meals came out. Been here twice now in a week and no improvement on second visit."

  • "Go to the Smugglers, It's the best pub/Restaurant in the area. As a local we go to this pub all the time, it has a great location with outstanding elevated views across the bay. Food and service is always excellent, and it was no exception on this occasion. My wife and I dine at the best restaurants in London and around the world, we enjoy Michelin Star cuisine regularly, of course the Smugglers is not a Michelin Star restaurant, but the food represents great value. We take our baby and our labrador, the staff are always friendly and welcoming. It can be busy in the summer so we always book."

  • "Booked a table for a birthday lunch with my elderly parents. The atmosphere was relaxed and welcoming. The table service was excellent. Attentive, friendly and helpful. My wife has a gluten intolerance and the waitress was immediately able to produce an allergy advice breakdown of the standard menu which was colour coded to made it very easy to order something suitable. The food was served promptly and was very good and the portions were plentiful but not overbearing. Deserts were also very good. All in all we enjoyed a very nice afternoon lunch."

  • "I was alarmed to see DOGS in the restaurant not just 1 but 2 ?????????? If people want to take dogs to the restaurant they should leave them outside or eat outside them selves."
    dined on 23/11/2013
  • "We went for a Sunday roast and duly ordered 4 roast beef dinners from the rather brusque waitress who seemed to be in a huge rush all the time!. 3 of the meals arrived within 15 - 20 minutes and were warmish, the 4th took another 10 minutes to arrive and it was stone cold! (our waiter was busy with someone else, looking for a big tip we wondered?) The meal's owner stood up and marched through the fairly full restaurant to return the offending meal to the bar as all the waiting staff had disappeared! When the 4th meal arrived this time it was a little warmer but again not hot! The beef was edible but the red cabbage was awful! It would appear to be oak smoked and full of vinegar..... Not good! We won't be back!"
    dined on 17/11/2013
  • "Good location to drop the car, walk into Bowleze Cove, or Weymouth along the cliff foot path and return for an evening meal. Good was excellent. Only pity was they have dropped the pies fro the menu. Go early as they sold out of a lot of dishes..."

  • "My fiancé and I went here on the last day of our holiday and we only wished that we had found it sooner. We booked a table online for the two of us as we didn't know how busy it got which was very easy and straight forward to do. When we arrived we were greeted with the amazing view from the car park and the beautiful cottage like building. We walked in and were greeted with a very warm welcome and roaring fire. We were quickly seated, given menus to peruse and ordered drinks. We couldn't find fault in any of our food. Both had three courses, portions were very generous. Loved the fact they had mini desserts so even the fullest of the full could fit one in. Would recommend to all and we will be returning to Weymouth just to go here again!"
    dined on 25/10/2013
  • "We had dropped into the Smuggler's for a coffee at lunchtime on the day we arrived in Dorset to check it out as we'd booked dinner there that evening. Lunchtime was absolutely heaving, great ambience and everyone appeared to be having a good time. Therefore, when we went there for dinner that evening, it was a shock to see it so quiet. However, the food really was excellent (I can recommend the Blue Vinney & mushroom pasta) and we make our own atmosphere. We had a great evening. The staff are very efficient and very friendly. Would definitely recommend it."

  • "We have visited this pub once before and we were back in the area om holiday. Now a family of four we wanted a nice Sunday lunch. My son's children meal was good which was grilled chicken and we swapped the potatoes for chips. Staff were v willing and helpful. Husband and I had roast beef. Which overall was lovely. However the portion size of the beef was a bit stingy. One slice.....We had upgraded to a large portion for roast so wander how much beef you would get if opted for smaller appetite. Probably less veg. We had pudding which was delightful. Would still go back and loved the choice of food on the menu"

  • "My husband and i booked a table for a Friday evening we arrived early but were able to go to our table straight away as it wasn't too busy.We ordered drinks and then the food. The food arrived very quickly which we didn't mind as we were very hungry. The service was very efficient but a little bit too much sometimes and we did feel a little bit pushed through. But on the whole we had a very enjoyable experience."
    dined on 20/09/2013
  • "The Smugglers is a venue that has a great reputation and is in a fantastic location, however as soon as you get there you have to pay £5 to park for 3 hrs or £10 for up to 5 hrs (£5 is reimbursed from your meal). This seems over the top and leaves a bad taste in your mouth before you've even ordered! The food itself is reasonable, but no where near as good as we were expecting - nothing that most other country pubs offer. There were no specials and a very limited vegetarian choice. The service was efficient but that was it - no smiles, no discussion or recommendations, and no real attempt to clear up when the waitress spilt one of our drinks on the table (and onto one of our laps!). I won't bother returning!"

  • "Great food, excellent service and excellent atmosphere. Just one little problem, they ran out of most of the desserts on the menu and it was only 8pm. More stock required?"
