A word from Spice Cube
The Spice Cube is not the average Indian restaurant. The décor is fresh and original, combining a glass sided staircase, contemporary furniture, funky lighting and innovative design with authentic Indian cuisine and Bollywood beats. The Spice Cube recently won the Best Indian restaurant accolade in the North East Restaurant Awards 2007. We look forward to seeing you soon.

Made a booking and was informed booking had been accepted. Turned up to find restaurant closed due to refurbishment! Went to Akbar instead and had an amazing meal.

The Spice Cube in Newcastle upon Tyne lived up to the other reviews and is in a very lively food complex with plenty of locals to look at after the meal.

Latest of many visits. Food just as good as ever but we've never seen it so busy and the service was slow and chaotic this time - wrong drinks and food brought to the table - almost late for our concert. Won't stop us going again.

The latest of many visits to The Spice Cube in Newcastle. Food still excellent, a bit different from the standard Indian fare and great value. Open early so good pre-theatre / concert etc. Stair carpet is shabby and in need of replacement now.

We ate in te Spice Cube in Newcastle on a Saturday night It was busy. The ambience was modern and lovely. The gravies in the korma and the paneer dish we ordered were too oily and stodgy- could have had a more delicate touch. The service was however poor- I had to ask 3 separate waiters for water, then a Lassi and the poppadoms. Disappointed after reading the reviews.

We visited Spice Cube in Newcastle and opted the two course set lunch. It was great value for money with generous tasty portions. The lentil and coconut soup was exceptionally good with an excellent balance of spices. The okra curry was similarly well pices and very flavoursome. The garlic naan breadwas freshly prepared but a little thin. Service was very friendly and welcoming. Great location if visiting the cinema. We would like to try one of their regional cookery evenings for special dishes

Spice cube Newcastle. This is an excellent curry house. Having looked at the website, I was expecting a bit more of a fusion type experience rather than the more standard menu however the quality and taste of the food was brilliant. Definately recommend and will be back next week

Food was lovely, great flavour and texture of the lamb curry was melt-in-your-mouth. One of the best Indian restaurants I've been to recently. The thing that let it down was the service, where it took almost 10 minutes for our drinks to arrive, and dessert menus never arrived even thought we asked twice, so we just skipped it. Improvements can be made, but the food is worth checking out!

One of many visits to the Spice Cube in Newcastle. The food remains at well above average and at reasonable cost. It is convenient with opening times allowing a meal pre concert / theatre and service is efficient. We took 2 friends for their first visit and they were impressed with the quality and interesting choice. We have to turn a blind eye to the unpromising setting in a shopping mall and the rather canteen like ambience.

Enjoyed our evening very much at the Spice Cube in Newcastle. The food was lovely, as was the service. The only down side was I had to ask for the bill 3 times and it took about 20 minutes to arrive at the table, making us late for Michael Buble at the Metro Arena.

Tasty papadums but insufficient chutneys. Excellent main dish and aloo gobi. Pretty standard naan. Restaurant was empty when we were there so little atmosphere, but I don't hold that against it as we were eating i) late, and ii) in the middle of a heatwave.

We had the worst curry we've ever had at the Spice Cube,Newcastle. Sauce, clearly produced from a jar with no evidence of fresh vegetables/ spices being used in either. Korma tasted like an overly sweet pudding with cream on top. I would nor recommend to anyone who enjoys good Indian cuisine.

We've been a few times before and the standard remains high. The mixed tandoori platter is a great and substantial starter. The quality and cooking of the meats and king prawns is excellent and there are some unusual strong accents on offer such as star anise or mace. Still not keen on the "chic" minimalist ambience but it's very convenient for the multiplex cinema next door and other activities.

The spice cube at The Gate, Newcastle was a small inviting restaurant, the food was really good, although the portions were smaller than the average Indian, the quality made up for it, I would say the presentation is a bit more contemporary than the traditional Indian cuisine, but overall the atmosphere and friendly staff made it a relaxed evening I would recommend. Due to its situation in Newcastle its perfect if you wish to continue your night, with the cinema, bars or nearby nightlife.

Fair standard of food. Thought the price was above average considering it is the north of England. Many dishes were more than you would pay in London. The restaurant is in the lively Gate complex, which meant there was a few loud rowdy tables of men. Overall it was a fair eating experience, wouldnt rush back at all.

Good food and service. Dined early on a Saturday evening and restaurant was already quite busy. However, waiter's were efficient, friendly and helpful (offering to assist with new menu). Food is good value for money. Prices are slightly above the average Indian but then the food is not the usual fare. Plenty of "Happy Hour" type offers look good value.

Our second visit to The Spice Cube within in a couple of weeks. The open all day hours makes it good for before a show. It worked out even better because there is a free starters offer for the early evening ! Not attracted to the setting or the "cool chic" minimalist ambience but the food is superb and the service was more attentive this time.
