Diner Reviews
  • "I booked this table for my Birthday on a Monday and it was wonderful. The staff were very courteous and helpful when we need some advice on what to order. The restaurant seemed really busy for a Monday and this added to the lovely atmosphere inside. The food was delicious and I would definitely go back again."

  • "Nice staff but not sure what the fuss is about ! Food very average . Or we chose badly ?"

  • "The food was amazing and the service was great. Would definitely go again when I'm in London."

  • "I went to Tamarind with my husband and a friend with the aim to try an Indian michelin star restaurant and see how they make Indian food go a step further. I have to say that the food itself was not noteworthy, I know atleast 10 other places in London where you can get the same or better quality for less than half the price. However, the restaurant has a lovely decor, good service and an ambience fit for special occasions. Food , although not inspiring, is authentic. Some dishes have been given a western twist which I think was a bab idea (for e.. gajar halwa served on carrot cake)"

  • "To be honest I was disappointed with the hurried service and also quality and standard of the food especially being a Michelin 1 star restaurant. I have been to much better restaurants."

  • "Food so and so, good service with the waiters, but the maitre was very stupid with us. Good choise of wines with the sommelier"

  • "Not your regular Indian but what it lacks in choice is made up for in refinement. How it got a Michelin star is a mystery - its not that good - but I would still recommend it for a treat. Its not very good value for money but the service is pretty decent."

  • "I booked here for my other half as it was his birthday. The food is nothing special, I expected much better, starters were nicer than main course. Service was sloppy, I ordered a drink and wasn't given it, yet we were charged for it on the bill and had to point this out. We had many different waiters maybe that causes the confusion and no attention to detail. Atmosphere is very nice. For the price we paid, I just expected a Wow factor which we didn't experience."

  • "Have wanted to come to this restaurant for a while and ended up meeting a friend there for a pre theatre dinner set menu. Unfortunately the service was so poor. We were asked what we wanted to eat within 5 mins of taking a seat. I had to order all three course choices together (never had this done before where you had the preorder even dessert before even getting our drinks). Then was asked multiple times whether we would like some more drinks/wine immediate after our glasses were empty. To be honest I could wait to not get bombarded by the waiter. Not worth going there again and would not recommend it. Service is appalling and there is a feeling of trying to get customers in and out ASAP."

  • "My guests for lunch on the 16th of June were HH Maharaja Sawai Padmanabh Singh of Jaipur and his Father Maharaj Narendra Singh. Naturally I wanted the occasion to be a success, and so I telephoned the restaurant in advance to make a reservation, to ask for a side table, and to advise the staff on the necessary Royal protocol. Unfortunately all incoming telephone lines were out of order, and there was just a voicemail answering service. I attempted repeatedly to contact the restaurant by telephone to no avail. I left a message on the voicemail asking for someone to call me ASAP. I used the Open Table site to make a table booking and asked also for someone to telephone me. No one contacted me for 24 hrs. Very poor PR !"

  • "Decent food, good, attentive service. Vegetarian choices are ok, no surprises here. Wine list is very good. It was an enjoyable evening"

  • "Having eaten in some of the best indian restaurants in London including Benares, Veeraswamy, Moti mahal etc I looked forward to eating here. Did not disappoint, I had the lamb kadhai probably the best lamb dish iv gaf at a restaurant...I asked for a little extra spice which it certainly had! My partner had the chicken tikka which was pleasant. Overall I would place this slightly behind Benares on overall dining experience however the food wad on a par with the best iv had."

  • "Well done to Tamarind again. service is impeccable. fast for business lunches and with OT special makes it well worth the trip. Food most delicious."
    dined on 05/06/2014
  • "Tamarind just did not live up its reputation, either for food or service. The food, sea bass and tika chicken, was below average in flavor, size, and presentation. Not distinctive or noteworthy in any positive respects. The wait was neglectful, needing to be reminded even to refill wine from a purchased bottle they kept across the room. The ambience was quite bland, failing to rise above its basement location. Overall, hugely disappointing."
    dined on 02/06/2014
  • "Wasnt great, every dish was bland and not what we would have imagined from a Michelin star restaurant. Ive had tastier chicken tikka from my local Indian restaurant for quarter of the price. The chicken contained a lot of sinew and stringy bits, looked like thigh or leg meat, not chicken breast as i would have expected for the price! Service was good, food just needs improving. Not sure how they got that star, unless we just caught them on a bad day!"
    dined on 31/05/2014
  • "The service was slow on the drinks orders including the wine list. Food was very tasty and well presented, they need to sharpen up a bit on service. "

  • "As a great fan of Indian cuisine I try to go to special Indian restaurants when I am in London. Tamarind was my choice this time and I and my two guests were not disappointed. The spices were balanced in each dish to enhance the ingredients. The wine accompanied the dinner nicely. The service was friendly and attent. A delightful evening."

  • "What a lovely restaurant! The food was delicious and the service impeccable. It was highly recommended to me and certainly did not disappoint. I am a particularly fussy eater, but enjoyed my meal completely. I booked my boyfriend and I a table for his birthday and they even surprised him at the end with a piece of cake decorated with happy birthday and a candle. Such a beautiful touch to finish the evening. I would return and recommend this restaurant."

  • "I booked this months ago having received a recommendation from a friend. Since then I have read mixed reviews however I have to say that it was the best Indian meal I have ever had and it lived up to its Michelin star rating."

  • "Booked this place for a romantic dinner with my girlfriend, felt abit hurried to get the orders in by the waiters and constant pushing to get orders in, once we finished the bill took ages to arrive by then my girlfriend had list interest on the night, abit of a let down for the price I paid "

  • "Second time I've eaten here, the last was 6 years ago. The food have exotic flavors that you don't find with such intensity anywhere else. It's not overwhelming nor too hot. Service is simply outstanding. Explain what you desire and the staff will take care of you. Great Indian food."

  • "We had a lovely meal in Tamarind. The service is excellent and the food was very good too. I look forward to come back and sample more dishes. "

  • "We found Tamarind when looking for Zaika in Kensington that we had previously used before when going to the Royal Albert Hall. We found that it had closed and this led to finding Tamarind. Tamarind's food was absolutely excellent and the dishes just melted in the mouth. Zaika was excellent but Tamarind is better. The staff were friendly, attentive and gave good advice about the different dishes on the menu. We will definitely use this restaurant again."

  • "We went with high hopes after having ate at a michelin starred indian restaurent in dubai. We certainly didnt't go to compare the two. Whilst the restaurent was very nice it was more reminiscent of a jazz eatery in nyc. The staff were very friendly. Our disappointment was the fact the food was not nearly as tasty as (in our opinion) an indian meal should be."

  • "This is by far the best Indian restaurant we have been to in London. The food is both original and traditional and very well executed. The service is attentive."

  • "My children are food critics and hard to please, but they loved it. It was recommended by my wife, and we all thoroughly enjoyed ourselves immensely. It wasn't just the food but also the excellent service as well."

  • "Went there with family - a little apprehensive how a Michelin-star Indian place would turn out to be, especially for our 3 year old. Turned out to be a very friendly staff who immediately befriended our son, and even prepared a special meal for him. Overall service experience was very pleasant, the food was delicious and portions were good sized. Really liked the Gucchi Kofta and Daal Makhani."

  • "Lovely restaurant, where we had the theatre menu, very enjoyable food, with attentive staff. Will make a return visit to choose from a varied full menu"

  • "My wife and I celebrated our anniversary at Tamarind for lunch. From when we approached the entrance until we left the service was fantastic. So friendly, informative and helpful. Added touches with the chef chatting to us after the meal, little touches to make our anniversary special and most importantly excellent fine Indian cuisine . I had the lamb cutlets and the monkfish which were full of flavour and cooked to perfection I am really looking forward to a quick return to the Tamarind Paul & Cathy "

  • "Simply delicious. I'm not the biggest fan if Indian and have no taste for a sloppy curry but the food was amazing here, starters with the seafood salad and the scallops and then followed with the seabass and side of lentils. It was a beautiful meal with faultless service. I would highly recommend."
    dined on 12/04/2014
  • "The staff were very friendly other than one who I found rude. He asked my friend to taste test the wine, ignoring me, and also asked him about his Indian origins, again, completely ignoring me. There is no place for sexism in today's world. Other than that, the other waiters and waitresses were friendly and polite. It wasn't easy to get a table, but when we arrived there were only a few other customers there. This, along with several waiting staff standing in a line staring at us intently, made us feel uncomfortable. Although, the service was quick and polite which made up for it. The food was lovely (especially the chocolate truffles!). Warm ambience - great for a romantic meal maybe. I would visit again."
    dined on 12/04/2014
  • "Overall: fair food, incredible service The appetizers were unique and - we got the papdi chaat which had tasty blueberries. The aloo appetizer was fair and lacking a sauce. Unfortunately, for our main course we got the eggplant dish and a paneer dish. The paneer we had asked for was makhani and although it wasn't on the menu they said they can make it without a problem. The paneer was undercooked and had not absorbed any of the flavors of the sauce. It was almost like they just stuck it in there. The eggplant was fairly spicy and just ok. We did not opt for dessert but they did bring us something anyway, a chocolate mint leaf that was heavenly and a chocolate truffle. The service was fantastic and the ambiance was nice."
