  • "An excellent restaurant. All round I would say possibly the best in Essex. Good food, good service and attention to detail. Very nice ambience in a lovely location. Highly recommended."
    dined on 29/08/2014
  • "This was our first visit and we thoroughly enjoyed our meal. The service was attentive but not intrusive. The quality of the food was excellent and we particularly enjoyed the homemade chocolates. On this occasion we used a Groupon voucher but would not hesitate to revisit without such a benefit."
    dined on 28/08/2014
  • "Ambiance is more for official meals and sunday family meals. Food was good, even if the vegetables were dry because re heated ... BTW no vegetables are coming with your food, you need to ask what you would like. Please, more in the plates, you are not really full after your meal, and I'm not a big eater ..."

  • "Lovely food and friendly service.. Cost's a few quid but worth every penny"

  • "This was ours and our friends first visit to The Blue Bridge. We were greeted on the door and directed to the bar to order some pre-dinner drinks whilst we awaited our friends, which I found very welcoming. Our table was pleasantly located with plenty of space between us and the other diners. The waiting staff were very attentive and knowledgable and the menu had an excellent selection of dishes. The meal and wine were reasonably priced and very enjoyable. I would highly recommend this restaurant and am looking forward to dining there again in the near future."

  • "Visited the restuarant with my wife for our anniversary and she loved it. Which is always handy when its me taking her out ! :)"
    dined on 30/07/2014
  • "This is a good quality village restaurant serving a choice of excellent food in a very nice old building. I like that the tables are not too close and the staff are friendly and helpful. The good wine is pricy but the cheap wine is certainly drinkable."

  • "the food didn't blow me away. We visited the blue bridge as part of a groupon deal. With high recommendations from friends we were expecting something amazing and the main was unfortunately just average. Me and my partner both had sirloin steak for main (as part of our deal but usually £20 each) which was cooked just ok and the handmade chips weren't very tasty and you had to pay extra for veg (all that came with it was a small mushroom and a couple of cherry toms). The starters on the other hand were really flavoursome - goats cheese mousse and Stilton soufflé - highly recommend. The staff were very friendly and made us feel welcome, however the main course really let it down for us. Seems a bit over priced if you didn't have a voucher."

  • "Excellent food, pleasant attentive staff, nice surroundings, easy parking. A nice experience as always.."

  • "Nice Place.Friendly atmosphere and attentive smiling staff. I thought it was a little expensive but overall a great evening Thanks"
    dined on 11/07/2014
  • "My friend ate the sea bass and I had the chicken - both were 'good' but not outstanding. Cutlery very difficult to use (although looked classy!) and my 'plate' was an excuse for a bread board with an indentation round the edges, which unfortunately was not deep enough to prevent my barbecue jus flowing over the sides. Music, initially pop, was wrong for this upmarket venue, but live band and female singer later on were much more suited. Recommend for special occasions as almost London prices."
    dined on 11/07/2014
  • "Excellent service with some very nice touches. This is where we now go for special occassions"

  • "We travelled to Essex, from London, for a friend's birthday party on Saturday. We decided to stop for lunch on the way in Writtle after finding the Blue Bridge Bar and Restaurant on the internet. This is a very good restaurant indeed with excellent service. The food is very well cooked. I had cashew encrusted hake with an oyster mushroom and thai curry sauce. This was served with new potatoes and green beans and was excellent. My husband had the cod and chips and he was delighted with it. No frozen chips here these were proper hand made chips. We shared a rhubarb crumble and custard and whilst the rhubarb was perfect the crumble had far too much sugar so was consequently overly sweet and too hard. Would visit the Blue Bridge again."

  • "Lovely lunch, shame a la carte is no longer available though."
    dined on 02/06/2014
  • "Booked a last minute dinner here. from welcome to finish we had a lovely service, started with oysters and finished with a good ristretto, made with nice coffee in a well maintained coffee machine. The wine was very good, small but well selected choice, the chianti was beautiful and well worth the money, the lamb was a little young, but not lacking in flavour and the waiting staff where not over bearing, paid attention to detail. If i was to nit pick, i would say that the apple tarin pastry was a little overcooked and my friends rum baba could have had a little more kick to it, but it was great to see nice desserts that were made fresh. Thank you everyone for a nice night "
    dined on 28/05/2014
  • "ordered champagne cocktail, saw Prosecco being poured, when queried was asked "would you prefer champagne?"!! that sums up the place really - not quite right. Long wait for main course, beef wellington cooked well, but with sausage skin in? apparently its traditional!! Thought food bit expensive - no veg came with Wellington so had to order sides. Wine was good. Don't really want to be kept told 'no worries' and "no problem' when ordering food/drink. Not on my list of return to places"
    dined on 23/05/2014
  • "Ambiance was also really good until a large group arrived and it got incredibly noisy."
    dined on 22/05/2014
  • "Nice venue, staff very helpful and polite. Mixed Meat roast ok, the pork belly is rich and tasty, beef was tasteless, aged prime beef with a good amount of marbling can taste wonderful, I have no idea where they source theirs from but it could have almost been boiled, a shame as the rest of the meal was passable, roast potatoes ok, veg was good, and pan gravy was passable, prefer slow reduction gravies, but not to everyone's taste, and many establishments cant / wont invest the time. Meal nicely presented Kids enjoyed the pasta"

  • "Food was fantastic, singer was really good . Overall a great evening , will definetly return "

  • "Only used this restaurant as we had a voucher, food was ok but expensive. We wouldn't go out of our way to eat here again"
    dined on 02/05/2014
  • "Our second visit to The Blue Bridge and I would thoroughly recommend it. We had dinner before which was lovely but pricey so ideal for a special occasion. This time we had the set Sunday lunch which was equally delicious and really good value. Good choice of starter and main but we were too stuffed to have pudding. Will definitely be returning."
    dined on 27/04/2014
  • "We have eaten here before and really enjoyed the quality of the food and good service. We were not disappointed this time, another lovely meal enjoyed by all in our party."
    dined on 17/04/2014
  • "we went to the bluebridge on monday 14th april and this has fast become our favourite restaurant! my wife had the prawns with chilli jam and she said the best she has ever tasted!! i had the beef wellington wich was perfection. we are very happy eating here!"
    dined on 14/04/2014
  • "We booked for lunch on a Monday. The restaurant was busy without being full. Menu was varied and clear. Braised beef was absolutely superb, really tender. Sweet menu was basic old fashioned English, but none the worse for that. Great value, super food, we will be back"
    dined on 07/04/2014
  • "this was our 4th visit to bluebridge, and i cannot find fault with anything in the restaurant. we came away very happy and very full."
    dined on 05/04/2014
  • "The food was pretty good with portions of veg large enough to share between two. The ambiance of the place was good with no rush to serve you although I would recommend the 2nd sitting in the evening. However....I do think this is rather an expensive restaurant and being charged £3.50 for EACH vegetable dish (mains don't come with any veg) I managed to get a bill for over £120 for two and we only had one bottle of wine! Would i go back.... only on special occasions"
    dined on 28/03/2014
  • "My parents enjoyed a wonderful meal here for their Golden Wedding Anniversary and thoroughly recommended that others go there too. Thank you for making it special for them."
    dined on 28/03/2014
  • "It is a very nice restaurant. The service is fantastic and the food very good. Car park a little small but you can find a space in the surrounding roads."
    dined on 26/03/2014
  • "We used to be regulars at the Blue Bridge until we moved away but this was our first meal there for almost 2 years. Still as good as ever; great food, great value."
    dined on 23/03/2014
  • "Disappointed with music as we booked especially for that reason. Noise meant that we could not hear music that well and it would have been better if your singer had moved around the restaurant which would have meant we could hear when in our area"
    dined on 22/03/2014
  • "We celebrated with a meal at the Blue Bridge. Both of us have a special diet which was catered for without fuss. An enjoyable evening and attentive service. Food excellent although having been before a change of menus would have been welcomed. Would certainly recommended this place to all."
    dined on 21/03/2014
  • "I couldn't have asked for better, had my table request fulfilled. Food was brilliant, definitely my type of food. All the staff were very helpful and professional. Service was quick and didn't feel rushed. Will be and have been recommending this to friends and will be returning"
    dined on 19/03/2014
  • "Have been to the blue Bridge before but it is somewhere I forget about going to. We went on a Monday evening and I did think they may have had a cheaper menu for the week. The food was really good though, we had cod and chips, pork belly and steak and chips all of which were great! Our desserts were delicious! My favourite was the chocolate fondant. Will be returning sooner next time."
    dined on 17/03/2014
  • "This restaurant has got great dining for a special occasion down to a fine art.The service fem start to finish is excellent and you are not rushed in any way.The food is as you would expect to the same high standard. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone with no reservations."
    dined on 15/03/2014
  • "somewhat disappointed with experience. My mother came to lunch and although she can walk with crutches, it is difficult. It was clear that my mother would have a problem with access and when we were seated this was not taken into consideration - made worse by the fact that when leaving we were partially obstructed by another diner - the table and chairs were too near the stairway. I complained at the time, but was informed that I should have booked a disable friendly table. Surely the staff could have seen the disabled person when we arrived and would need a more accessible position?!!! However, the staff were very courteous, it was just the food that was problematical and too much for me to expand on through this survey. J May"

  • "A very popular restaurant in Chelmsford. I took a friend and former work colleague to lunch. My first visit for a meal although I had visited the restaurant previously in a professional capacity. I booked a table but the dining room was not very busy due to the weather. Good lunch menu. I had ham hock terriene followed by catch of the day (ie Fish and Chips), an excellently cooked piece of cod. My friend had mackeral pate followed by pasta. Enjoyable food and attentive service. The meal with a glass of wine each, a dessert course for me, two coffee's and a tea came to just over £60 including service charge. I would certainly like to visit for dinner but I understand it gets very busy on Fridays and Saturdays so booking is probably a must"

  • "Nice Restaurant, but ver pricey. Ok for special occasions. Wine was very good quality. Shame about the shortage of parking spaces."
    dined on 26/02/2014
  • "I came to the Blue Bridge with my two daughters to treat one to a Birthday lunch, we had a super lunch and the waitress could not have been more charming, I have been to you before but they had not and will return in the future, we had a very enjoyable time. Yours Brigitte"

  • "Lunched with three friends. Cooking was sound without being sensational. Fair value. Service pleasant and well meaning but rather amateurish: men served before the ladies, clumsy handling of plates and dishes. All in all not quite so good an experience as our last visit. Perhaps we caught them on an off day. We would still recommend it though."
