On arrival we were greeted by very friendly staff who took our coats etc. and guided us to the bar area to wait for our friends. we had a Sunday lunch of the mixed meat which included pork belly. although it was tender and quite lean the crackling top was non existent, just soggy skin!!! at the end of the meal this comment was made to the waitress but seemed uninterested. despite not having any bottles of wine the cost of a Sunday Lunch for 4 adults was £200.00 Unfortunately this included Service Charge which I would rather have a choice if we wanted to tip or not

The place was buzzing. Good food, good service but very expensive for what it was. I think to be fair the evening was great because of the lovely company. Certainly a popular place, if you don't mind spending £50 a head for two courses and one alcolhic drink!

  • Anniversary Lunch at Blue Bridge

Went to the Blue Bridge with the hubby for lunch to celebrate our anniversary. Couldn't fault the service, friendly and attentive. The restaurant was a bit on the chilly side when we arrived so I kept my jacket on for a while but the heating kicked in after a while. I had the goats cheese starter which was delicious, and my husband had the smoked mackerel pate which he enjoyed. He then had the beef brisket for his main course - again delicious, and I had steak. I asked for medium rare which was perfectly cooked & very tender until I reached the middle of the steak which was a little too rare for me. The only other small gripe was the peppercorn sauce was very runny indeed and didnt have much of a punch to it. Overall we had a lovely lunch.

I have known about the Blue Bridge for a while now but I've never actually visited. I decided to go as I had a date who I wanted to impress. All of the food was fantastic, but special mention goes to the pork plate which I had and the special frozen berries with hot white chocolate. The service was relaxed and the restaurant had a good ambience. While it is not cheap, it is a place where I don't mind paying a bit more if the food is this good. I will definitely be dining there again.

To be honest my parter and I were extremely disappointed with out experience at the Blue Bridge. The food was very over priced for what we got. We had a starter and main each then 3 drinks each, this came to almost £80. Usually we wouldn't mind however the portion sizes were small and the food was more about presentation then taste. It is a lovely looking resturant inside and out, however if you about the food I wouldn't even bother.

The food was outstanding. I had wood pigeon which I'd never tried before and it was delicious! The mains were beautiful aswell, the live singer was good, our table was far enough away that she wasn't right in your face. It's always a special treat to come here for such good food, wine & service. The wait staff are all young girls but have been trained very well.

Love this restaurant however it's not for light pockets as the bill could floor you but only if you order the finer wines as the food is not too expensive and worthy of the title of fine dinning. The four of us started in the bar with a couple of champagne coctails and Hendricks. I had the Crispy Poached Hens Egg with Buttered Asparagus and Iberico Chorizo to start, which was devine followed by a special of rolled plaice fillets filled with spinach, they were melt in the mouth. We had a couple of sides and a couple of bottles of wine: Sancerre, La Petit Broux, Les Celliers De Ceres 2010 followed by the Barolo Docg, Fontanafredda 2007 (Italy) with mains, both excellent. Recommend to anyone but make sure you're not worried about the bill.

I booked the £29 for a two course steak dinner with cocktail for two people via Groupon for my Dad's birthday treat. We both had a cocktail at the bar (I had a Strawberry Daquiri and my Dad had a Pina Colada) and I can honestly say it was one of the best I have ever had - so refreshing! We also both had the tomato soup starter which came with fresh bread and butter. It was really tasty and the fresh warm bread really complimented the dish. The Groupon included the midweek menu steak with peppercorn sauce and chips. The steak was slightly too red and bloody for a medium well done steak but the dish was delicious nevertheless. The decor is very modern and clean. The service could not be faulted at all. I will 100% be returning here!

BTW no vegetables are coming with your food, you need to ask what you would like. Please, more in the plates, you are not really full after your meal, and I'm not a big eater ...

This was ours and our friends first visit to The Blue Bridge. We were greeted on the door and directed to the bar to order some pre-dinner drinks whilst we awaited our friends, which I found very welcoming. Our table was pleasantly located with plenty of space between us and the other diners. The waiting staff were very attentive and knowledgable and the menu had an excellent selection of dishes. The meal and wine were reasonably priced and very enjoyable. I would highly recommend this restaurant and am looking forward to dining there again in the near future.

the food didn't blow me away. We visited the blue bridge as part of a groupon deal. With high recommendations from friends we were expecting something amazing and the main was unfortunately just average. Me and my partner both had sirloin steak for main (as part of our deal but usually £20 each) which was cooked just ok and the handmade chips weren't very tasty and you had to pay extra for veg (all that came with it was a small mushroom and a couple of cherry toms). The starters on the other hand were really flavoursome - goats cheese mousse and Stilton soufflé - highly recommend. The staff were very friendly and made us feel welcome, however the main course really let it down for us. Seems a bit over priced if you didn't have a voucher.

My friend ate the sea bass and I had the chicken - both were 'good' but not outstanding. Cutlery very difficult to use (although looked classy!) and my 'plate' was an excuse for a bread board with an indentation round the edges, which unfortunately was not deep enough to prevent my barbecue jus flowing over the sides. Music, initially pop, was wrong for this upmarket venue, but live band and female singer later on were much more suited. Recommend for special occasions as almost London prices.

We travelled to Essex, from London, for a friend's birthday party on Saturday. We decided to stop for lunch on the way in Writtle after finding the Blue Bridge Bar and Restaurant on the internet. This is a very good restaurant indeed with excellent service. The food is very well cooked. I had cashew encrusted hake with an oyster mushroom and thai curry sauce. This was served with new potatoes and green beans and was excellent. My husband had the cod and chips and he was delighted with it. No frozen chips here these were proper hand made chips. We shared a rhubarb crumble and custard and whilst the rhubarb was perfect the crumble had far too much sugar so was consequently overly sweet and too hard. Would visit the Blue Bridge again.

Booked a last minute dinner here. from welcome to finish we had a lovely service, started with oysters and finished with a good ristretto, made with nice coffee in a well maintained coffee machine. The wine was very good, small but well selected choice, the chianti was beautiful and well worth the money, the lamb was a little young, but not lacking in flavour and the waiting staff where not over bearing, paid attention to detail. If i was to nit pick, i would say that the apple tarin pastry was a little overcooked and my friends rum baba could have had a little more kick to it, but it was great to see nice desserts that were made fresh. Thank you everyone for a nice night

ordered champagne cocktail, saw Prosecco being poured, when queried was asked "would you prefer champagne?"!! that sums up the place really - not quite right. Long wait for main course, beef wellington cooked well, but with sausage skin in? apparently its traditional!! Thought food bit expensive - no veg came with Wellington so had to order sides. Wine was good. Don't really want to be kept told 'no worries' and "no problem' when ordering food/drink. Not on my list of return to places

Nice venue, staff very helpful and polite. Mixed Meat roast ok, the pork belly is rich and tasty, beef was tasteless, aged prime beef with a good amount of marbling can taste wonderful, I have no idea where they source theirs from but it could have almost been boiled, a shame as the rest of the meal was passable, roast potatoes ok, veg was good, and pan gravy was passable, prefer slow reduction gravies, but not to everyone's taste, and many establishments cant / wont invest the time. Meal nicely presented Kids enjoyed the pasta

The food was pretty good with portions of veg large enough to share between two. The ambiance of the place was good with no rush to serve you although I would recommend the 2nd sitting in the evening. However....I do think this is rather an expensive restaurant and being charged £3.50 for EACH vegetable dish (mains don't come with any veg) I managed to get a bill for over £120 for two and we only had one bottle of wine! Would i go back.... only on special occasions
