A word from The Bull - Highgate
We’re proud to welcome you to a great public house re-opened for the enjoyment of the local community.

Through the experience of the owner, and his carefully constructed team, we have created a pub where you can meet friends, eat with your family or come for a quiet pint, whilst experiencing uncompromising standards of service, food and drinks.

Also, because we genuinely believe the heart of a great pub is amazing beer, we’ve installed small microbrewery in the pub. Click here to find out about the fledgling London Brewing Company.

We look forward to extending you a warm welcome at the Bull, and hope to see you soon.

Diner Reviews
  • "The Bull is a good lively &friendly. There & is a MICRO BREWERY of distinction. The MENU is dull, but [ & not for the first time] not well cooked. Horribly dry & tasteless terrine......dry ,brittle toast & only a few salty bits on the side. A moist ,tasty chutney would have helped. A thick fig jam for cheese given on request, but wrong for the dish. The expensive rib eye steaks were small, unevenly & in places badly over cooked , not med. rare as asked. The chips were horribly pale, tasteless soft & undercooked & a mean portion. The green beans were good. Sadly, I went with a Chef this time who was not only unimpressed by the food, but had been watching the kitchen, which he said was not working efficiently."

  • "We eat here regularly, so was disappointed having booked through Open Table, and requested a table outside - in fact we had cancelled another restaurant, as we wanted this option, when an indifferent waitress said they did not accept reservations on outside tables. A short text would have alerted me to this in advance, and we would have reviewed our options. Small things like this can change an evening... Open Table are quite open that additional requests are not always able to be dealt with, my grumble is with The Bull for not going the extra mile in terms of service!"

  • "The ambience is great and the prices reasonable (for Highgate). The home brews are brilliant and the staff super friendly. The food is heavenly and will appeal to foodies and people who like things simple alike. The only downside is the service not in the enthusiasm of the staff or the warmth of their interaction with you the customer, rather it's the speed at which they'll forget to bring the bill or the menus... They don't forget to bring the important things like food or beer but this lack of attention to detail (or maybe insufficient numbers of staff) does let the place down a bit... That said if you're prepared to pitch in and grab menus or go to the bar to order a refill (or dessert) and pay the bill then it's an amazing place!"

  • "We really enjoyed our first meal at the bull, we've booked to go again with my in-laws next week. The food was really enjoyable and I had two great vegetarian options to choose from, not boring ones like some places. It looks really nice inside too and my husband enjoyed his pub brewed beer."

  • "Was recommended by a friend to go here for food and was not disappointed. The food was incredible, the best I have had in London thus far. The staff were very welcoming and friendly and provided impeccable service for the evening. A great little local in Highgate for any occasion!"

  • "I met a friend of mine here for dinner. We asked for a quiet table and were given exactly that. The waiting staff were attentive and helpful. We chose the Bull because it had a wide menu and there was a good choice of fairly standard pub fair. Our food was well cooked and promptly delivered and we had an enjoyable evening."

  • "After having a lovely meal on a Saturday night we decided to go for Father's Day. To be honest it was slow service, the staff didn't look interested until a lady came later in the day. The roast tasted like it has been sat for ages and the roast potatoes tasted frozen. Dessert was late but they kindly apologised and offered us a refund. Was gutted about bad experience as we'd enjoyed it so much the first time!"

  • "Really delicious broad bean tagliatelle and really good service."

  • "Invited friend visiting from American to join as the The Bull for dinner on Thursday night. We had a great time, the service was friendly and helpful and the food, as always, delicious. The recommendations on beers for our guests was good and the bonus was the great live music. Helpful when we wanted to order a cab for our guests too. Altogether a really good night out."

  • "London being London I do not want to give this wonderful Pub / restaurant / brewery any sort of good report because, London being London I may not be able to get a table ever again.. So lets just say it has its own character which at every level works for me..Enough said! indeed, too much said already.!!!!!!."

  • "This was a decent afternoon lunch. However, slow service and having to chase down waiters 5 times in the afternoon let it down. Even had to chase them down to pay the bill! Food was average."

  • "Went here on a warm summer evening, very friendly staff, great food and live music. A great choice!"

  • "Simply the best Sunday roast in the area. The roast beef was perfectly cooked and extremely tender. The yorkshire pudding huge and the accompanying vegetables complemented the meal beautifully. "

  • "Really nice gastro-pub feel. We went on a Friday night. We asked to sit down stairs which had a nice buzzing atmosphere and the food was good. I had the chicken wings which were a tad spicy but very tasty and the sea bass with fennel which was lovely but could have had a bit more sauce. The dessert was delicious. Chocolate Brownie with honeycomb ice-cream- just not quite enough ice-cream! My Husband had the steak which was moist and pink as he likes it. Definitely will go back!"

  • "Very noisy. Poor service.Overcooked food.Would have walked had they not changed our booked table."

  • "We were very disappointed with our meals. The hot smoked salmon starter was miniscule, 2 in my party shared the Bull Board and said there wasn't enough. I had the rabbit rillettes which I enjoyed. My duck breast was served up almost raw with very little to accompany it, the steaks were very thin, not chunky and juicy as one would expect for £21.50. and the deserts were dull and uninteresting. "

  • "Nice pub with good food and great selection of beers - helped by their own micro brewery. friendly staff as well."
    dined on 20/04/2014
  • "We had a great time at the bull- the food was really nice, and the service was really good. These were an interesting selection of ales, and they did a great sampling menu (served in thirds of a pint), so you could try them all! The restaurant is a little pricey, but it is worth it. I will be back again."
    dined on 13/04/2014
  • "The Bull is consistently good - fantastic beer list and very sound food. The burger is so good that we often ignore the rest of the menu though my friend said the fish was excellent too. We always enjoy the sharing boards as a starter too. Service is always really friendly too."

  • "I booked online for myself, my wife and our 2 teenage sons. Booking was simple and efficient. We were allocated a table in the upstairs restaurant which is an attractive and spacious room. We all ordered the roast as we'd seen one being served on arrival which looked good. I had the beef, my wife the pork and our sons the chicken and lamb respectively, so we tried all the options. No one was disappointed, all the meals came with plenty of veg, yorkshire pud and, most importantly, decent gravy. 2 shared puds were lovely. The staff were friendly and helpful despite the fact it was Mother's Day and they had been rushed off their feet all afternoon. With three beers (excellent) and soft drinks the bill came to 80 quid plus service. Recommended."

  • "We live in Highgate and this is one of our two go to pubs when we have visitors, don't fancy cooking or just need an excuse to go to the pub! The service is excellent, staff are friendly and children are well catered for. We were 4 adults, 3 kids and a baby in a buggy and there was plenty of room for all of us. The Sunday roasts are delicious, I had the roast pork and my partner had the roast beef both accompanied by Yorkshire puds, roasties, carrots and some lovely red cabbage. No dessert for me but there were a couple of lemon tarts on the table which disappeared in seconds! Definitely worth a visit if you are in the area and check out 'Wings Wednesday!'"

  • "Upsatirs table for dinner, needed another pair of hands to serve tables. Young chap did his best though. Menu ran out of a few items which was annoying. Despite that, freindly staff, nice atmoshphere, good food. Will be back"

  • "we often come to the Bull, but this recent time, was not good at all. they say they do roasts all day, but really, it's better to go for lunch, when the meat is fresher and there's more of it. we had roast pork, which was 3 tiny pieces of dry pork, with a plate full of carrots and broccoli. pretty rubbish for a roast dinner. at £15 a roast, i don't think this is good value at all. we would go back as we like this pub a lot, and it's local, but definitely not after 1pm, when the food clearly runs out."
    dined on 23/03/2014
  • "This is a nice pub for the local community. Staff are friendly and the food is cooked to a good standard and comfort food. There seems to be quite a following of craft beer in this pub."
    dined on 16/03/2014
  • "Great friendly atmosphere and good quality food, with a mix of traditional popular dishes (excellent fish&chips, steaks and and hamburgers) and seasonal dishes which are changed on a regular basis. A vast choice of beer, including home-made ones brewed in the facilities at the back of the pub!"
    dined on 15/03/2014
  • "It's a real shame, because this place was great but it's slipped. I keep giving it another chance to get better, but the last three times we've been it gets worse each time, so no more. For some reason it's really hot, really sweltering in the evening. I've complained but they just shrug and say "we know". The service is very patchy too. And it's noisy, not buzzy and atmospheric, but shouting in your ear noisy. If you do go, get a table upstairs, where it's quieter. And don't get the cheese board, it's tiny."

  • "Had great lunch here with family in dining room. They looked after us really well, esp our 2 year old daughter. The bar was packed but dining room was quiet. Good food at very reasonable prices. Plus Golders Hill Park over the road or the Hearh nearby make for excellent walks. Heartily recommend."

  • "Went for dinner with close friends who are food snobs and they loved it too.....! In house brewery - excellent taste (try the ginger ale). We were given a fascinating tour of the brewery on top of a lovely dining experience. Overall a comfortable country pub atmosphere with good food and personable service. We took a chance as it seemed to easy to book and felt very much rewarded! We will def be coming back on a couples basis but would recommend for groups too, particularly if brewery tour is an option!"

  • "Lovely varied menu, good tasting food coupled with good service. For the beer lovers there is a great selection of real ales!! Can not go wrong on a visit to The Bull"

  • "We're repeat visitors to The Bull and it's hard to fault the superb beer selection and excellent food. Quite simply, I think this is probably the best place to have a meal in Highgate. Service is always friendly and professional. Highly recommended."
    dined on 07/02/2014
  • "We had a really nice Sunday lunch, with a classic roast that could not have been better. Nice atmosphere, but a little confused ( although very nice) service. A big bonus was the nice barman that provided tastes of the ale produced by the pub- they were also good!"
    dined on 02/02/2014
  • "We (group of four) chose The Bull from the reviews on Toptable as we were visiting Highgate and did not know the area at all. When the food arrived, a Stilton and Walnut salad was minus the Silton and Walnut; two other meals (Cod with Risotto) came with fish raw in the middle and risotto that you could cut with a knife. These were returned and fresh food was cooked. Second attempt was very good. In-house brewed beer was excellent. Conclusion; the restaurant was absolutely packed such is it's popularity, so the food generally must be good as the numbers speak for themselves, but unfortunately our experience was very poor and we would not return or recommend. Maybe we were unlucky but at these prices we shouldn't have the rely on luck."

  • "Hadn't been to the Bull in it's latest incarnation so gave it a try. Very pleasant Sunday lunch (roast pork, fish and chips, and chicken goujons kids meal). Robust portions. The drinks part of the menu is HUGE. In-house brewed bitter and cherry-flavoured Belgian beer were both rather pleasant. Nice, efficient service."

  • "Having booked using Top Table's online booking facility, I was not to know Monday's are quiz night's, so our cosy fireside table was surrounded by quiz enthusiasts, when the quizzer plugged in his microphone we couldn't hear the waitress speak, she suggested we might like to move upstairs to the slightly cold empty dining room. When our food and drink arrived we had an agreeable evening with the waitresses charming and thoughtful. They made a note to see if Top Table booking service could flag up a quiz night warning, had their booking manager had any wits they might have seated us in the beautiful upstairs dining room in the first place, and heated it up a bit, plainly the wood burning stove parked beside us, when fitted would do that."

  • "I personally didnt actually dine on this occasion, I was the one who organised it but then I fell ill! However my 5 friends went ahead without me so I can give you their feedback. They loved the pub and said it has a great atmosphere. Those who had the roasts all agreed it was the best yorkshire pudding they have ever had, and really good gravy, on the downside the rare beef wasnt very rare, the nut roast wasnt very nutty and the roast potatoes were quite hard. One person had the fish and said this was fantastic. Overall they had a great time (while I lay in bed suffering) and will definitely go again (hopefully with me next time) but keeping fingers crossed for a slightly better roast potato!"

  • "The Bull always offers a seasonal menu with freshly prepared food. Lovely cosy pub with a warm welcome. Great wine and choice of beers. Another lovely meal. Thanks!"

  • "One of the few gastro pubs that still retains a cosy pub feel. Please don't ever change! There are so many other local pubs (like the clissold in muswell hill) that were so good at the food they forgot they were a pub and the ambiance and atmosphere changed when they redecorated... The Bull currently has hit the spot with great food and a cosy pub feel combined. Good work!"
