Diner Reviews
  • "Had an excellent lamb Sunday roast here on Easter Sunday. All our meals came within 15 minutes of ordering and were really hot! Only thing was that when we arrived for a 12.45 booking we were told they only had 8 portions of lamb left! This was fine for us because we were there early and managed to get them however if I'd have booked for any later they would probably have run out and I would have been really disappointed. I know it's usual to run out of meat later in the day but seemed quite early and particularly on Easter Sunday when most people want a lamb roast! Apart from that it was spot on!"

  • "We're always looking for a good burger in our area. Decided to try The Butcher & Grill and was really impressed with our food. The casual restaurant is behind the butcher/gourmet shop area, but very cool place to have a quick meal in a nice setting. Nice selection of food and we all chose burgers, which were very good and perfectly cooked to order. Even tho i'd passed by the Butcher & Grill many times, I don't think I realized they served food until recently. "

  • "... was poor this time around. As the name suggests, the beef and all things butcher related are very good. Generally, so is the service with some great and efficient servers. There was some disarray on this particular Sunday, though. Maybe there were some new staff or the Maitre was new, but we were covered by 5 different servers over the course of the meal and things took far too long. We will certainly be going back as I expect it was a blip. Generally a great morning or afternoon out."

  • "I've been buying my meat from the butcher counter at B&G for years. Their meat is second to none. Over the years I never thought to eat there. The other night my husband and I went and were blown sideways by the food. I had the scallops with squid ink risotto to start. Not fishy, the scallops I could cut with a fork. My husbands quail was outstanding. Our mains were equally good. My lamb chops were cooked to perfection and my husbands duck dish blew his mind. Only point he made was that the lentils it came with were a bit meagre. The service wasn't brilliant. We waited a little longer than normal to have our order taken and plates taken away, however we didn't mind. £75 for our meal, but great quality meat. You get what you pay for."

  • "Forget gaucho, hawksmore and the other chain restaurants, the steaks here are to die for! Best in town, great service, great location and you can have them as big as you like!! Will definitely be coming again. Thanks for a great night xx"

  • "I woke up Sunday morning feeling very very hungry and quite lazy, this place was just what I needed I had the full English with poached eggs and I came out full without that sickly greasy feeling some fryups give you. The staff are friendly, the environment relaxed and friendly and I even asked the butchers in the front shop for some bones for my dog! A great local treat!"

  • "Monday night is a very good value for money with a 50% on steak. The foie gras was very little but tasty and the steak the best as usual. Very charming and professional waiter (Nick), he's a seller, bravo to him."

  • "I'm sure this meat will convince any vegetarian to change his mine. Just taste it and you'll know why."

  • "My son (30) and I stop annually at The Butcher & Grill en route to a Six Nations match at Twickenham (we are otherwise never in Battersea). Two ribeye steaks were absolutely superb - both the provenance and the preparation. Service was welcoming, friendly and professional. Very lively ambience with lots of small children wandering around - a happy family atmosphere. A queue in the loo for nappy changing facilities. England 13 Ireland 10. A great day!"

  • "After using the Wimbledon branch of this restaurant which has now sadly disappeared, I decided to try out the Battersea branch with my girlfriend as a bit of a romantic throwback. A very unique place where you truly go for the great meat, this is one of my favourite restaurants due to the abillity to use fresh ingredients and meat from the instore butcher. Service was excellent, we had a great meal thank you."

  • "Had lunch with a friend and her two young children at The Butcher & Grill on Saturday. This was the perfect choice as the atmosphere is nice, the food is very good and arrived quickly and the staff are very helpful. Will definitely go back."

  • "We got welcomed with some bubbly for my partner's b'day which was a nice surprise and generally staff is very friendly and helpful. scallop risotto was delicious. found piece of plastic in chocolate fondant but they were apologetic and brought a new one. would recommend them!"

  • "Arriving early, we were offered a table on the shop level. This is a colder part of the restaurant as you're by the kitchen doors & not so buzzy. It would have been ok had it not been for the fact the couple next to us had 2 Labrador dogs. Don't get me wrong I have a dog & am a dog lover however, apart from one of the dogs whipping me with his tail constantly, when the bread was placed on the side of our table decided to lick it before we had a chance to move it from what was a silly place by the waitress to place it, just under the dogs beady eye. As the dog owners had no interest in pulling the dogs away we were moved upstairs which is a far nicer part of the restaurant to be in. Rest of the evening was fine & service fabulous."

  • "We had a lovely meal on the 10th January - my Mum's 82nd birthday. The staff are so friendly and nothing was too much trouble. Mum felt thoroughly spoilt."

  • "In my search for London's best burger this one fell short. The meat was great although for a medium rare mine was a little over cooked,it was the bun that was the let down being dry and uninspiring, I've had better for less in more central locations. That said the service was very professional and almost faultless and those in our party who had steak were very happy with the meat quality. Top tip would be to go on a Monday when steak is half price!"

  • "We'd been to the Butcher & Grill before, on quieter nights, but this time a group of 6 of us booked it for after the fireworks display at nearby Battersea Park. The restaurant was packed, with a great buzzy atmosphere, friendly and efficient staff and still great food. The staff even dealt with some "troublesome" customers in a way that provided a cabaret for the rest of us. Thanks for a great evening!"

  • "If you ask me, the steaks at Butcher and Grill definitely rival those at Hawkesmoor and are much better value. Lovely ambiance - can't wait to go again!!"
    dined on 14/12/2013
  • "Great steak as expected, but also surprisingly good non-beef options. The burrata/polenta starter was excellent, and the sides were very good. Wine selection was above average, and the atmosphere was laid-back and informal."
    dined on 12/12/2013
  • "Excellent meal - steak was fantastic! Really good value for money and generous portions. Will definitely return."

  • "Had a lovely Friday night meal here. Great food, wonderful menu, great friendly service and nice decor. I'll definitely return!"

  • "Liked it enough to go back within a few days. First time was brunch second time was breakfast. The food is good, service is too. Two menus essentially the same. Would like to try dinner next time. Still have one BIG suggestion: Add a swiss cheese and mushroom omelet to the breakie brunch menu"
    dined on 11/11/2013
  • "Had brunch. Coming from America, was surprised no omelets were on the menu! But the food we ordered was good and everyone was friendly. Try it."

  • "There arent that many good restaurants around Battersea, so when one is well run and offers nice meals, its worth mentionning. The burgers are definitely worth it. Well cooked, moist, well presented. The place is child friendly, the waiters are enthusiastic. The place also doubles as a food shop, well a butcher shop, as it says on the tin. We bought some sirloin steaks and they tasted very well when we cooked them. There is also a small terrace where you can lunch/dine/brunch. We have done all three, during week and week end. The place is good and consistent. Enjoy it."
    dined on 26/09/2013
  • "the place looks amazing and the service is very friendly. have the filet steak. amazing quality, while the t-bone steak was not that good. chips are a bit too dry but eel presented. side dishes are very tasty. only problem is the tip! On mondays they advertise a 50% off. In reality the discount is only on the meats (not the sides dishes, starters, etc).... And the annoying thing is that the 12,5% tip is calculate on the full price (without the discount), which is very tricky and not fair...."

  • "The quality of the ingredients is evident by the photographs of previous days in their lives on the walls. ( Curious?) Service was exemplary. Staff a treat to talk to. The clientele were very upmarket and SW postcodes, the type of people I usually eat with in the West end. The choice on the menu and quality of both our fayre, meant we will eat here again and heartily recommend you try for yourself.. We went on to the "affordable art fair" in the park (Battersea). And yes, she spent a fortune!! Thank God I'd had the good sense to eat a fine meal first. Sausages!"

  • "I live near the Butcher & Grill and am a frequent customer. The food and drink is always of a high quality, and the service is fast and efficient. The staff are friendly. This is a great local restaurant."

  • "Fantastic and unusual place to eat very close to Battersea Park. We visited on a Sunday after a walk in the park and a visit to the children's zoo. The brunch menu is very extensive including two Sunday roast options and a kids menu. Environment is fun and bustly and the food is excellent - great quality and good portions. Roast beef dinner was extremely beefy. Steak and wine pie was perfect. The burgers were amongst the best we've ever eaten. Highly recommended and you can then buy some great quality meat, vegetables and cheese on your way out through the shop!"

  • "B&G advertises in large print a Monday offer of half-off steaks. I booked for lunch. On receipt of the bill, I was unpleasantly surprised to be informed that the offer only applies to dinner. They menu only says "Steaks half-off on Monday", with no such exclusion. I pointed this out to my server, who checked and responded that "Yes, it's cryptic". Further, reviewing the website offer, it excludes lunch in the tiniest of footnotes, but only after its large type enticement. I think this is deceptive and bad practice and won't patronize this establishment further."
    dined on 07/10/2013
  • "So the restaurant is actually in a butcher's shop. If you are a vegetarian or cannot think about where your meat comes from this may not be for you. But if you are OK with that, at the back of shop is a small bar and a restaurant. There's nothing on the menu you can't get from another meat haven but the quality is much better than almost everywhere else I've been in London. The service was excellent with attentive waiters who, when the power went out, offered our drinks for free. The only negatives for me were: the price, which was quite high but to be fair it did correspond with the quality; and the restaurant was small, so I got the impression my group of friends and I may have intruded on a few quieter evenings..."

  • "Really nice, relaxed atmosphere in an unusual restaurant, (there was a guitarist and violinist the night we went). It has a small outside area overlooking an old drydock, and could not fault the food, it was delicious. Special mention deserved for the service, friendly and very welcoming and attentive. Foods pretty reasonably priced too (wine's not, but then where is cheap for wine in london?)."

  • "Came here late on a Saturday night, service was good, food was outstanding. Great steak and lovely ambience, also a good choice of wines. We came here as a casual dinner but it would be equally suitable for a party or celebration - in fact I might book it for an upcoming birthday."

  • "What a gem! Really pleasantly surprised at the food, service and location. Will be going back with the family. One of the best steaks I ever had, was amazing. Highly recommended."

  • "Good vibe in the restaurant with nice decor but.....service wasn't fantastic, meals were muddled and sauces did not arrive. At least it was half price Monday!!"
    dined on 05/08/2013
  • "Well what else would you expect from a Butcher? Great deal on Mondays with 50% of Steaks! Some of the best meat you'll get in London. Lamb was devine, steak was bliss. Service was very poor with us being neglected for 30mins trying to get any of the staffs attention, they only noticed 5 mins after we got up from the table."

  • "This was my first time to B&G... the pigeon breast starter was very tasty with a rich broth of bacon and greens... They also served amazing steaks which were extremely good value at 50% off on Mondays. Highly recommended!"
