Our drinks order had to be taken twice as the first order was lost. Two main meal steak pies had to be returned to the kitchen as they were not hot - two puddings were removed from our bill as recompense for the cold pies. Our final bill was incorrect as our drinks order had been charged twice. The layout of the barn restaurant appears to be lacking as during our visit a party was dining upstairs making a lot of noise - the noise traveled round the restaurant and it made it difficult for us to hear each other at times. All round this was not a pleasant experience.

Met up with a friend from Canada here - it was ideal with British food and a lovely Constable view of fields and lowing cattle. The waiting staff were exemplary. My home made gnocchi were delicious and the wine which the Maitre d chose to go with my goat cheese croquettes was perfect.

My husband and I went for our wedding anniversary and from the moment we walked though the door we felt special, friendly staff very helpful, didn't need to move from the lovely candlelit table we had be seated at. Everything brought to table, food lovely presentation and hot, staff checked thought out our meal that everything was ok, if we needed anything else, they where happy to accommodate especially me with my nut allergy, my husband loved the fact as soon as his drink was empty the manager (I think) offered another, he was fantastic very bubbly personality which was passed on to all the staff working. Will be going back very soon.

Pleasant, interesting interior decor - still 'new' and smart. Good view over fields from plentiful garden seats and tables. Gammon, sirloin and chicken dishes OK for taste, presentation and price. Portions generous. Reserved table ready only a few minutes late - comfy seats elsewhere to wait with a drink. Service slow "because of large number of pre-orders". Staff friendly but a bit vague and inefficient on this particular sunny Thursday evening.

Attended the Chester fields for an anniversary meal. The moment we walked in we were greeted so warmly by the bar tender Gaz who was the ultimate professional. Incredibly knowledgeable and made our evening extra special. I had an amazing Lemon Meringue Martini and went back for more after the meal. The serving staff in the restaurant have the perfect balance of being attentive but not over bearing. Again our server, a young lad who served the upstairs area on Saturday night was informative about the dishes, very friendly and helpful. After the meal we retired to the outdoor area to finish our cocktails, a brambletini this time, & treated ourselves to another prosecco. All the staff we encountered were brilliant, we had the BEST experience.

Charming pub with good restaurant facilities and large area for outdoor dining. It gets incredibly hot and sticky in the dining room as there is no air conditioning or fans. Excellent starters and main courses but the desserts were disappointing.

We visited last year and the food was amazing, I had the longhorn fillet steak and my girlfriend had beef and it was possibly the best meal we've ever had. We returned this year and the menu had changed slightly, I had the fillet steak which was very dry and slightly overlooked and lacked flavour and my girlfriend had the beef shin which was poor. We sat upstairs and it was so hot, it was uncomfortable and made it unpleasant and hard to enjoy. The service was very good however and the place itself is fantastic. Not a £25 steak by any means though

The service was very good, very attentative throughout. The restaurant is in a good location with extensive outside facility as well as a very nice and modern interior. The food was average for this level of restaurant but the starters,(sauteed King Prawns were extremely salty, spoiling what would have been a good starter). This fact was passed on to the staff. We were amazed then that when my Wife's main course arrived,(also king prawns) it was equally salty and had to be sent back! The replacement of the dish was prompt and the waiting staff were most apolgetic and concerned but the concern didn't run to adjustment of our bill!. The restaurant had good features and we may go back ??

The food itself was very nice , the bar was very noisy, we were there celibrating an anniversary , we were sat in a very noisy position right opposite the toilets , my view was a large air fresh er sitting on top of a picture.my husband phoned to say that we might be late as the taxi was running behind and the reply was we need that table for 8:30 , put a damper on the meal before we went.

Positives:-Fairly quickly escorted to our table by pleasant and helpful waitress. Service throughout was good. Negatives:- Crispy Pork Belly - menu stated "crispy crackling" in the description - deciding factor in ordering it. Hopeless description - should be "soggy, pale thin skin". We complained - a more senior member of staff offered to take it away and crisp it up. No - I had started my dish and my wife and I were dining together. The dish was, otherwise quite tasty. Pan Fried Stone Bass with shrimp butter, etc. served in a soup bowl so the melted shrimp butter was concentrated in the centre of the bowl and saturated the spinach which had been placed at the base of the stack and so making greasy. The fish, however, was excellent.

Good food, nothing on the menu that stood out, but plenty of tempting options. Very busy, table wasn't ready when we arrived (on time) but food didn't take long to arrive. Can't decide if it's a pub or a quality restaurant, looks the latter from the outside but then we felt overdressed (just dressing smart) going in. Once past the pub part, found the restaurant and didn't feel so different to everyone else. Think it's a nice gastropub with casual atmosphere. would go back.

Had another good Sunday lunch. Everything up to the usual high standard. Got free desserts for ordering a starter and a main course, plus a free bottle of house red for booking through toptable and dining over Christmas & New Year! What's not to like??? Lots of young children in this time, so quite noisy, but after a couple of glasses of wine, we were feeling no pain! Definitely going again and again. 10/10 all round.

We've eaten at the Chester Fields on a number of occasions. The atmosphere is always pleasant, and the service friendly, although the food we ordered on this occasion - mostly burgers - was marred by having the burger buns burnt, which is entirely avoidable. However, our returns to the kitchen were dealt with very politely and efficiently. The kids always enjoy the retro Space Invaders games!

Three of us went for Sunday lunch and had a really great meal. The food was cooked to perfection, presented beautifully and brought to the table without delay. The Staff were excellent, well mannered, helpful and attentive. We don't normally have desserts, but the offer of a free pud for having a starter and a main course was far too good to refuse. The blood orange bread & butter pudding was gorgeous!! The Bar was good, with a good choice of drinks and the bar staff were tremendous! We have been several times before and have always found the standards to be very high and would recommend them without hesitation.

We went to chester fields for my husbands birthday with our 3 children. The service we received was fantastic from every member of staff!! Food was good although the children's menu was a bit limited, and could have been a bit more inventive. The selection on the adult menu was good. There is a games room upstairs where the children played on an arcade machine whilst we finished our drinks after the meal. Overall we had a lovely dining experience and would recommend this restaurant.

We were told that this was a try out for food themed nights and if it was successful there would be more such events, and as far as we were concerned it was a great success! The staff were friendly and attentive, the food was very tasty (and hot - wow, those chillies!), there was plenty of it and it was good value - and above all it was good fun. We will certainly look out for themed nights in the future.

Enjoyed a meal at The Chester Fields on a Wednesday night. Starters were good and so were the steaks. The only negatives were that a glass of coke was mainly ice and that two children were allowed to go from table to table asking for money for themselves whilst dressed in Halloween costumes. Bearing in mind Halloween was over a week away this seemed rather intrusive and unnecessary.

Met for a simple supper with a friend and enjoyed a new menu of some unusual dishes both vegetarian and not. Chose to have a vegetarian welsh rarebit starter (which could have been a bit more cheesy) and then a wonderful bread and butter pudding topped with apricots and orange marmalade ice-cream. My friend had a starter and pudding too but we felt comfortable ordering a modest meal. The waitress was second to none, inviting us to make helpful criticisms of the new menu and on leaving this relaxing venue, we realised that we had spent 3 hours at our table! All credit to the staff and relaxed atmosphere.

This was the first time that we have visited the new restaurant Chester Fields although we di visit The Barn as it was. The whole experience was fantastic. A little on the expensive side, but we did push the boat out as it was our 44th wedding anniversary. The ambience was excellent and the staff were very attentive but not "in your face". The food was unbelievable and I did send my complements to the chef/s. I had the fillet steak with red wine sauce -wow! I would certainly recommend the Chester Fields to my friends and family and would book again for such a special occasion.
