A word from The Cock & Bottle
Nestled in the heart of Morden The Cock and Bottle is steeped in tradition. With parts of the pub dating back some 400 years, we offer all the charms of an "olde-worlde" Dorset village inn. Our reputation is enhanced by being named regional winners for the best food pub for the last three years by Hall & Woodhouse.
The Cock and Bottle is one of the best places around to enjoy hearty food at its best. John, the chef is renowned for his cuisine and has worked tirelessly to produce a menu that caters for all tastes. His ever changing menu reflects the fresh game and fish available each day, and covers everything from lamb shank to steak and kidney suet pudding, rabbit pie to chicken curry, which is made to john"s own recipe. For fish lovers there are a number of dishes, including sea-bass, haddock, salmon and skate wing. To finish off why not try one of our homemade desserts. The pub also offers an extensive and varied range of real ales and wines.

  • "We use the C&B as celebration event dining - last week was our son's A level results. It consistently achieves very high levels of cleanliness, ambiance & character. The staff are always welcoming & you decide menu choices in your own time. Food choices reflect the location with plenty of fish & game alongside regular favourites. Portion sizes are generous. A good choice of beers and wines that all combine with the food to achieve a level that surpasses pub grub but avoids pretentious 'foodie snobbery'. Neither too large nor too small and with no piped music you can enjoy a conversational, relaxed meal without eavesdropping or being overheard. Pricing reflects the quality. Daughters GCSE's next week. Celebration = another booking!"

  • "Lovely food, Lovely people, Lovely pub. The only thing we really didn't like (and would make us think twice about going again) was the way we had to order the food. The only menus are 2 chalk boards on the wall by the entrance. You have to stand and choose your meal while others are trying to look and other customers are coming in and often standing in front of the menus. We felt really under pressure to choose and it felt more like ordering a takeaway. We like to sit, have a drink and take our own time to choose a meal. Please have some menus printed and it would be a 5."

  • "We wanted to treat my mother to a special lunch to celebrate her 91st birthday . Having been to The Cock & Bottle on more than one occasion we knew we would get friendly, efficient service with a smile. A good menu selection, and delicious well - cooked food. We were not disappointed, and my mother was delighted to find some old favourites on the menu board that she hasn't seen in other venues. We had a lovely meal and would like to recommend this pub to all who enjoy a good meal in delightful surroundings, with good service, and a friendly welcome ensured."

  • "Seven of us had a really nice weeknight family dinner here in mid June 2014. Really great selection of mains and deserts, generous portions, excellent quality. Really friendly welcome. All round great!"

  • "I live in Fareham, Hampshire, and to reach The Cock and Bottle is a journey of over 50 miles, yet this is about my sixth visit. The menu is extensive, most food is cooked to order, it is served attractively and cooked to perfection. The staff are friendly and welcoming, and it is a pleasure to visit The Cock and Bottle. Quite large car park Highly recommended."

  • "We had starter, main and 1 sweet, lager shanty and large red wine for just over fifty pounds. Food excellent quality apart from pea puree which did not taste of peas and of which there was too much, scallops and black pudding drowning in it. Everything else was wonderful. "

  • " We went to the Cokc&Bottle to celebrate my husband birthday and were not disappointed . The food was excellent and the service was friendly and prompt..Overall I would rate this pub as excellent and certainly the place to go for special occaisions as a little expensive for everyday. "

  • "We had a great meal, the service was good and the food was excellent I.e it was restaurant standard but a little expensive for a pub meal"
    dined on 12/04/2014
  • "Lovely food really enjoyed it although it was on a tad on the pricey side for us."
    dined on 11/04/2014
  • "Thoroughly enjoyed the food. Plenty of choice and a different menu from most pubs. Definitely a cut above. Our waitress was delightful, very friendly and chatty."

  • "This is a very pleasant restaurant in the Dorset countryside. The menu is good and much of the cooking likewise, but the vegetables need to be more interesting. The selection is what used to be on offer 30 years ago and needs updating."
    dined on 28/03/2014
  • "Took the In laws to celebrate their Diamond Wedding. Had been before a couple of years ago and restaurant had been extended sympathetically. Food still excellent, including the venison Wellington which is amazing, with large portion sizes. Lovely country all around if you fancy a walk after, lots of T E Lawrence connections. Service good without being fussy or over-attentive. Most enjoyable lunch for ages."

  • "The service was as good and very friendly, host were very keen to please nothing too much trouble, 3 Children with us all enjoyed their meals and sweets and we all cleared our plates no food returned. A pleasing and enjoyable lunch with our grandchildren."

  • "This popular, dog-friendly country pub was recommended very strongly by a number of friends, and we will go back in the evening as the menu looked interesting, we were given a friendly welcome and service and beer were excellent. Its popularity means the table layout has had to be quite inventive to avoid the impression of over-crowding. Our Sunday lunches were well-cooked and included 5 different types of vegetables, although for the price (£9.50) portion sizes could have been slightly larger and the plates could have been hotter. We rarely have Sunday lunch/carveries in pubs as we find we do not eat better than we would at home, and we would not rush back here for Sunday lunch, despite having no complaints about the food."

  • "My wife chose to dine here for her birthday meal along with myself and our teenage son. It was our third visit and once again the food and service were excellent, We were welcomed as soon as we stepped through the door. A varied menu that would suit everyone."

  • "All four of us thoroughly devoured our pies served with various extras. The food is always delicious here and it's lovely to escape to the countryside and get that relaxed atmosphere without having to go too far"

  • "As ever, we enjoyed an excellent meal in comfortable, friendly surroundings. The choice of dishes is superb; there is a range of more unusual fare for adventurous diners but also tasty plainer dishes. The Cock and Bottle can be relied upon to provide a great meal and is consistent in its high standards. Highly recommended!"

  • "Food was excellent, great choice on menu, fresh ingediants, and staff were very attentive."

  • "We went to the Cock & Bottle for Sunday lunch following a recommendation from a vegetarian friend who said they had a good choice for vegetarians. However, we were disappointed to find by 12.20 that 2 of the 4 choices had sold out, giving a choice of goats cheese or risotto. As risotto is the most common vegetarian meal offered by restaurants our vegetarian companion is fed up with it, leaving her a single choice. However, the meal was delicious and the staff were friendly. Please restaurants forget the risotto and make other recipes!!"

  • "We booked in for a family lunch to celebrate my Mothers Birthday. We have eaten here before and know the standard of food is very good. We were not disappointed. The chose of food was very good and well presented. It was well cooked and tasted excellent. The staff were friendly and chatty and it did not feel formal in anyway. The children were made to feel welcome too. We will definitely be eating here again, and again, and again! We love it!"

  • "I originally wrote what I thought was a decent review and recommend for the hostelry we visited. However, this site rejected it on the grounds that the 'review text contains inappropriate language'. The only two words within the whole text that could remotely be construed as inappropriate were 'boring', with reference to OTHER pub menus, and the first name of the hostelry which is that of a male Chicken. Great hostelry but pathetically PC site which I won't be bothering with again ! Get a life !!!!!"
    dined on 23/12/2013
  • "We gave the pub a visit after a very disappointing experience some two years ago. I am pleased to say that the enlarged dining area and upbeat, friendly service was a welcome improvement and we had a most satisfactory lunch."

  • "A splendid occasion. My guests were thoroughly relaxed and enjoyed their dining experience enormously."

  • "As usual, an excellent meal to celebrate a birthday."

  • "Food good but choice was a little limited . Sea bass not available on menu . Sirloin steak was a Little tough . Service was ex cellant but didn't make up for menu limitations."
    dined on 26/10/2013
  • "The restaurant, which adjoins the bar, has one dining room with several "alcoves". The dining room was extended at Easter (2013). The service is very friendly, helpful and quite quick and the atmosphere is welcoming. There is an extensive menu written on blackboards in rather small writing. The food is cooked to order and obviously the chef knows what he is doing. My sea bass was superbly cooked and presented, and my friend's plaice was filleted for her and she spoke very highly of the fish. My only regret was the fact that the hot sticky pudding was off - "no more left", although the restaurant was not full. I have eaten here before and will go again, even though it is about 60 miles from where I live!"
    dined on 14/10/2013
  • "I took my son here for a pre- university Last Supper. I hadn't dined here for some time but it didn't disappoint. I had a steak n kidney pudding to die for, my son had roast duck. Empty plates after says it all. Not the cheapest pub/ restaurant but still the one I would most strongly recommend in this area."
    dined on 03/10/2013
  • "WIDE RANGE OF CHOICE FROM MENU SATISFYING 3 ADULTS AND 2 CHILDREN. ALL FOOD BEAUTIFULLY PREPARED, LOOKED GREAT ON THE PLATE AND TASTED EXCELLENT. WOULD FAR RATHER SPEND A FEW POUNDS MORE EATING HERE AND HAVE A FANTASTIC MEAL THAN BOOKING A MEDIOCRE CHAIN PUB. CAN'T RECOMMEND HIGHLY ENOUGH."
    dined on 20/09/2013
  • "We dined here whilst on holiday in Dorset. The food was very tasty, portions were good and the staff were friendly. There is no truth in the rumour that the landlady is grumpy! We look forward to visiting again next time we come to Dorset."
    dined on 19/09/2013
  • "Really enjoyed the evening, the food was excellent . We arrived at 6.30 it seemed all tables for the evening were reserved . This was a Tuesday evening, good sign. The service was good but I do think eating early is always a good choice . When chefs are ready for a busy evening and the preperation done by eating early you have the full attention to your meal. If you eat at the busiest times you know the chefs are spread a little more liberally ."
    dined on 17/09/2013
  • "We went for sunday lunch with 2 friends and their son, There was only 1 vegetarian optional available as the other 2 had sold out and there was only 1 roast meat option which was disappointing, My partner and I both had the chicken curry which was very flavoursome, and the roast beef and veggie tagine were both fine, the boy had a pizza which was disappointing. We found the landlady to be very accommodating and some items on the menu very interesting but was fairly pricey for a sunday lunch, but would recommend for a taste experience due to the 'different' meat choices but for a special occasion with regard to the price."
    dined on 15/09/2013
  • "Never disappoints. Very welcoming, good food, wines and ale with friendly and efficient service."
    dined on 13/09/2013
  • "We come here fairly regularly as the service and food is always very good... its that simple!"
    dined on 12/09/2013
  • "Simple pub food although we were not warned about the extremely hot curry which somewhat spoiled one of the guests lunch and at 92 years of age he was too polite to complain. Serious consideration should be given to the placement of the Menu Board which was on the lower level of the wall opposite the bar by the entrance and was very difficult to read. The staff gave the impression that they did not want to be there and a smile would have gone a long way to making the guests feel more welcome."
    dined on 11/09/2013
  • "We had dinner twice here. The food was outstanding - obviously very good chefs. The landlords/staff were friendly and efficient, and allowed us to have our (large) dog under the table. The menu choices are extensive and the house wine (Shiraz) is very palatable. The food is clearly cooked from fresh, unlike some pub restaurants."
    dined on 06/09/2013
  • "Fab! Plesent atmos, very friendly staff, a nice place to be The food, altho not cheap is fantastic, great selection and very well presented Highly recomended"
    dined on 30/08/2013
  • "A very good Pub/Restaurant offering meal choices well above the average Pub grub fare. Good service and well presented quality food at reasonable prices."
    dined on 10/08/2013
  • "Very disappointed that there was not even one highchair which made eating a meal satisfactory for the parents impossible, we were informed that two highchairs were broken through stag/hen group events and one had been stolen, this would not have happened to all three highchairs on the same day so someone should have replaced them. When ordering our meal the waitress asked which type of potatoes would we like and two of us opted for chips with our Haddock and Salmon meal plus an extra portion of chips, we were supplied with one dish of chips for everyone which on reflection did not seem correct?"
