Diner Reviews
  • "Very good service despite being fully booked on a Sunday evening. Food excellent, good selection of dishes, ambience fine."
    dined on 20/07/2014
  • "Had an excellent meal at cricketers, would definitely recommend."
    dined on 19/07/2014
  • "think there should be at least one vegetable with main meals generally disappointed with the standard of food"
    dined on 19/07/2014
  • "We have dined here several times but aspects of our latest experience were disappointing. Service was adequate but not with a smile. Portions on this occasion were relatively small and the asparagus starter consisted of three spears. The risotto was very well cooked. Not good value for money."
    dined on 18/07/2014
  • "I was very disappointed as I had specifically asked for the seat in the window, but when we got there found that it had not been done. It was a shame as my daughter in law and family live in Dubai and every year they have asked me to book that table for when they come over. I had given them 3 weeks notice, and the Inn was half empty, so really they had no excuse, as far as i could tell, not to give me the table for 6 as i requested ! And they refused to give me the table, saying that it was booked for later - so, as you can imagine I was quite upset about the whole thing"

  • "My only criticism on the cricketers inn is the toilet facilities with a steep stairway to the first floor or the disabled toilet next to the staff working area which felt like it lacked any privacy and on opening the door(out wards) struck a member of staff."

  • "love the shabby chic decor and country pub feel. Menu varied but lack of a chicken main course was surprising. The duck was lovely but slightly overwhelmed by the savoy cabbage with bacon that came with it(meant to be red cabbage) and the steak burger ordered without cheese came smothered in it. Both situations hastily and kindly rectified by very pleasant waiting staff.Cod in beer batter was just right and the pork belly rapidly disappeared. Chef obviously had other things on his mind but staff in restaurant were very helpful, efficient and polite. A pleasant atmosphere and lovely if overlooking the Green. Would go again but not with younger children."
    dined on 09/07/2014
  • "We booked for a Sunday lunch after my sons 4th birthday party. The service was great and the Cricketers even put a big Sparkler in his dessert, without prompt as they noticed his cards and presents on the table. The food was spectacular!"
    dined on 06/07/2014
  • "we found the food was good the staff was very attentive but the overall cost we thought was expensive"
    dined on 05/07/2014
  • "You will find here outstanding cooking and a very nice environment. Only Few vegetarian dishes are served but they are absolutely fantastic! The same stands for the cakes. Although well staffed, you may need to wait to be served since the staff seem to be a bit disorganised. Finally, staff still need to master the art of making an espresso! I have been dining here for few years now and always find it amusing that despite a glorious espresso machine, some filter coffee is served in an espresso cup. Never the less, this place always exceeded my expectations : the food is so good that I do not mind the lack of nice italian coffee!"

  • "Have not been here in a while and the lay out inside has changed considerably, for the better. The whole pub is airy and light, we sat at a table in the window with a veiw overlooking the Green. The service was speedy and efficient. We were served by a lovely young man who, when asked a question to which he did not know the answer, went away to ask! We ordered muscles as a main course and the lamb tagine both of which were high delicious. Dessert portions were enormous but fab."
    dined on 03/07/2014
  • "Certainly not as good as it used to be and second disappointing meal this year. We recommended to friends for lunch, stating portion sizes especially for fish and chips were always on the large side so suggest choosing smaller portion. Boy was that a mistake, we had to chase the fish round the plate to find it. Our previous meal (for a birthday) was dry plus they had not logged the reservation. Will not be hurrying back soon."
    dined on 26/06/2014
  • "one main meal had to be sent back manager agreed poor quality did not charge for it. other meals were poor value for money"
    dined on 18/06/2014
  • "Amazing mixed grill - came on a board. Enough for 2."

  • "There was a beer festival on over the weekend we ate there and the place was buzzing but despite being so busy the staff were attentive the meals arrived in good time and the food was very good. After the meal we enjoyed drinks in the garden and listened to the live music with a a few of the beers from the beer tent . "

  • "Cheerful friendly people, they were very helpful with everything, dinner was delicious and very affordable. Definitely would recommend this place to literally everyone. Quality food, value for money, good tasting pints, friendly staff and atmosphere is friendly."

  • "I've been there many times before and when the girls and I were talking about having a catch up over dinner this is the first place I thought of. Friendly staff, great atmosphere and a fantastic menu. Every one really enjoyed it and they will defenatley be back. "
    dined on 27/05/2014
  • "We were late for our party booking on the bank holiday Sunday, but the staff were all very accommodating. Fantastic service from the manager, bar and servers. Our drinks arrived promptly, the children were well catered for, the vegetarian menu was interesting and produced great dishes. Lots of mmmms from around the table. Our requests were all met with out any objection. I had the roast pork which was really average. Soft roast potatoes, plain cooked vegetables, indescribable meat, no crackling. Not how a home cooked roast should be, in my opinion. The big surprise was the price of lager. Watch out for that! To finish we sat on the green across the road and watched the cricket. Overall a really lovely lunch."
    dined on 25/05/2014
  • "Very disappointing. the three of us were put on a table that was barely big enough. The wine which was plonked on the table complete with screw top. Only 2 starters appeared because the waitress failed to write down the 3rd so long wait for that to be cooked. Main course arrived an hour and a half after our order was taken and was nothing special, Sirloin steak was dry and average, chunky chips were anaemic and like oven chips. Meat pie was ok but vegetarian wellington came with no veg or sauce. Everything is expensive for what you get, all veg is extra. Decided against dessert or coffee and when asked how the meal was we expressed our views and asked to see manager. After waiting half an hour we paid the bill and left. Won't be returning."
    dined on 24/05/2014
  • "We were not warned that food would take so long (around an hour after ordering) however in their defence people that came after us were warned that food would take longer than usual. Outdoor area is great on a sunny day and food is very good. The salads are huge so in case your looking for a small meal be warned!"
    dined on 18/05/2014
  • "At £5.30 a pint I thought it was a bit of a rip off as this is more expensive than most London restaurants. "
    dined on 18/05/2014
  • "We were shown to our table and asked for our drink order before we were sat down. Drinks very expensive. Food was ok but some meat in a pie was dried out. The fish and chips were very good. The staff were friendly enough but we felt it was expensive at £11.95 for a meat pie and mash. That was it, no vegetables unless you pay extra. A small glass 125 ml of Prosecco @ £ 5.95. You can almost buy a bottle for that. "
    dined on 12/05/2014
  • "The place was packed as usual but we were acknowledged immediately and shown to our table. Very pleasant surroundings. Plenty of choice on the menu. Service was unobtrusive and timed perfectly. Staff were helpful and knowledgeable. Food was delicious. Very enjoyable."
    dined on 11/05/2014
  • "Cricketers delivers again ! We had a great night out with friends and the food was first class. The rack of Lamb and the Duck were especially good. The staff create a wonderful atmosphere that is friendly, relaxed and professional. Highly recommended., many thanks."
    dined on 10/05/2014
  • "Varied menu, service erratic and you can have to wait for the food."
    dined on 09/05/2014
  • "Good food- I went with the chorizo and calamari salad which was nice. Drinks a little pricey and staff a little clueless- just opened a bottle of wine and put it on the table, didn't pour it out. "
    dined on 06/05/2014
  • "Some of the meals were not good at all. The lamb was dry and grissly the chowder was thick dry and not tasty. The pasta was nice. Prawn cocktails were not nice (curry flavour!!) and my snail starter was awful. Dry and not pleasant flavours. £100 per couple very expensive for what it was. Will go to kings arms next time or Bartellas. Sorry. Been here a few times and food very hot and miSs but expensive for 'pub grub'. Great atmosphere though so it's a pity the food is such a disappointment. Your lasagne used To be good but no longer available. Very disappointed."

  • "This is the second time we've eaten at The Cricketers and both times have been excellent. The staff were really friendly, attentive and knowledgeable. The food was just fantastic, quality ingredients perfectly cooked and presented. My wife had the homemade ravioli with a rich ragu which was as good as anything I've tasted in Italy. The beer and house white were both excellent too. Thoroughly recommend it. "

  • "We have visited The Cricketers a few times and have loved it (although found it a little on the pricey side). However a recent visit was quite disappointing. Service was pretty slow and un-attentive and some courses of food were not great. My main was lovely (sea bass) but my husbands trio meats was not great and the Yorkshire pudding was very dry and felt like it had been cooked earlier that day. I ordered the brownie which I could only eat 1/2 of because it was burnt/hard round the edges - so very disappointing. At those prices I would expect the food to be fresher/better cooked and much better service. As I say, other visits have been spot-on, so maybe this is just a glitch!"

  • "We had a lovely meal the the cricketers inn on Easter Monday, we took our 11 month old with us and they supplied a high chair which I think u have to ask for in advance as maybe they're limited on numbers. Staff were very friendly and helpful and the food was delicious and all home made."
    dined on 21/04/2014
  • "we have eaten there before on a friday eve and was impressed with food and service. sunday food was good other that the brownies which were rock hard. service terrible, 8 for dinner, one was missed and we had all nearly finished our meal before the meal was served. Waited nearly an hour for deserts and then coffees totally forgotten. Some staff seem to have an attitude probably and seemed so miserable, and everything too much trouble. We were given a refund on our bill, but that didnt make up for the unpleasant visit. "

  • "We often eat in this local pub, and have always found it good. Not cheap, but good food, wines and beers, pleasant staff. This evening was spoilt by a very loud, ill mannered group of diners who managed to clear our part of the restaurant in under 30 mins. The shouting conversation they were having, the drumming and banging on the table really put the lid on it. We ended our meal as it was impossible to have our own conversation! Unfortunately for The Cricketers, you never know who's booked a table with you. Nevertheless it totally spoilt our evening and our guest diner won't be returning, even thought we'd said how good it normally is. We will also be looking for an alternative, where these kind of large groups are NOT catered for."

  • "We dine out frequently at various places throughout kent and have always enjoyed our meals. The Cricketers Inn was no exception. It was warm and friendly, the staff were obviously well trained and were a credit to the establishment. We had taken our little dog with us and this was no problem at all. We were given a table by the door which was nice as it was easy to take her outside if need be. It is so nice to find dog friendly places to visit. We had lunch and this was excellent. It arrived very quickly. was very tasty. Our waiter was extreamly friendly and attentive. I would recomment this establishment to anyone along with all the others in the Whiting and Hammond group. The have certainly got it right as we have never been let down."

  • "As always The Cricketers Inn delivered lovely food and great atmosphere. I took two of my friends from outside the area there for a catch up and the loved the food. Thanks again Cricketers x"

  • "We dined on Good Friday & the evening was great. There were 4 of us & the food was amazing. Great atmosphere & service, the staff couldn't do enough for us! It was very busy in there but we weren't forgotton once, always had a drink & when we were nearly empty we were always asked if we wanted another. Will definitely be going back!"

  • "I booked a table for 2 for me and my husband who have not been out for a while due to baby twins. We were seated right next to the bar with a noisy group of men next to us. They were enjoying a night drinking , laughing and shouting but this unfortunately meant that me and my husband were unable to hear eachother and enjoy our night. We asked to move tables which the staff allowed but we were then treated differently. The bottle of wine was just plonked on the table unopened for us and the general service was quite poor. We were made to feel like outcasts and felt very uncomfortable and glad to leave."
