Diner Reviews
  • "We often eat in this local pub, and have always found it good. Not cheap, but good food, wines and beers, pleasant staff. This evening was spoilt by a very loud, ill mannered group of diners who managed to clear our part of the restaurant in under 30 mins. The shouting conversation they were having, the drumming and banging on the table really put the lid on it. We ended our meal as it was impossible to have our own conversation! Unfortunately for The Cricketers, you never know who's booked a table with you. Nevertheless it totally spoilt our evening and our guest diner won't be returning, even thought we'd said how good it normally is. We will also be looking for an alternative, where these kind of large groups are NOT catered for."

  • "We dine out frequently at various places throughout kent and have always enjoyed our meals. The Cricketers Inn was no exception. It was warm and friendly, the staff were obviously well trained and were a credit to the establishment. We had taken our little dog with us and this was no problem at all. We were given a table by the door which was nice as it was easy to take her outside if need be. It is so nice to find dog friendly places to visit. We had lunch and this was excellent. It arrived very quickly. was very tasty. Our waiter was extreamly friendly and attentive. I would recomment this establishment to anyone along with all the others in the Whiting and Hammond group. The have certainly got it right as we have never been let down."

  • "As always The Cricketers Inn delivered lovely food and great atmosphere. I took two of my friends from outside the area there for a catch up and the loved the food. Thanks again Cricketers x"

  • "Meal ok but felt overall, food was quite bland and the service was slow considering we were one of the first diners. This is the second time we have visited this restaurant within 2 months and have come away with the same feeling both times so have decided not to visit again for quite a while. Shame as used to enjoy eating here."

  • "Chose Cricketers Inn based on toptable reviews for a quiet evening meal with my wife. Reasonably busy when we arrived but was virtually empty by the time with left (9pm on a sunday night). Food was good, with plenty of choice on the menu. We both wish we had gone for the sunday roast as eyed that up at another table, but our mains were still well cooked and good value for money. Will be back again"

  • "The food was excellent as usual with the waitresses being easily available even though we were out the back round from the bar."

  • "My husband and I had been to the pub on the first sunny Sunday afternoon this year and were looking forward to eating outside on the large patio area, however it was 45-50minute wait for food, so didn't stay. The plates of food that we saw looked good so we returned for a late lunch one Saturday. We both had fish for mains, mine the fishcakes and my husband had the fillet fish of the day, both were nice meals, cooked well and nicely presented. For pudding it was salted caramel banana (very posh banana split) and nutella gnocchi, which was fab according to my husband. Would recommend eating here, you just need to be aware that you need to drive to get there."

  • "Although a massive fan of the Cricketers, I feel let down by my last two visits. Service and food not up to usual standard."

  • "Bright and spacious; good space between tables. Very attentive staff. In all a very pleasant meal in an above average pub/restaurant"

  • "Nice food, pleasant service, food quite slow to arrive although was nice except for the homemade chips which were a bit soggy. No childrens menu either although they do smaller portions of some of the mains."
    dined on 12/03/2014
  • "Yet again the quality of the food was outstanding. We both went for their set menu as it was St Patrick's Day with Ham Hock Croquettes to start & Sausage Irish Stew for main. However the Guinness chocolate cake desert was the real show stopper again! Also this is the Best Pint of Guinness anywhere. Always the same and is the bench mark when I have a pint elsewhere. You can pick safely from any of their menus any-time, as everything they cook is always a pleasure to eat. Credit to Paul, his Chefs and all the staff as they always provide the best they can."

  • "We have used the restaurant in the past and have been very happy. This visit the food was average and the service extremely poor and had be complained about. We were given a reduction in the bill that amounted to about £1.50 pence. Will not be going back."

  • "Very nice villlage pub atmosphere. The staff were very good, we were dealt with & directed to our table quickly, the waiter was also very good & took the order for drinks & the wine for meal, all arrived quick. The meal order was taken & we did not have to wait long for the starters, all enjoyable. We had a bit of a wait for the main course, but it was Sunday lunch time a very nice day & very busy, food was good, roast gravy was not very hot upon arrival, but rectified by the waiter promptly. Desserts were good & arrived quickly. My only criticism is the price of the drinks, beer & spirits were over a pound dearer than normal prices, I feel this is a bit extortionate & a hidden service charge, wines were usual prices for any restaurant."

  • "1st time my partner and I have eatern here. Very impressed. We are looking into moving to the area and a friendly local pub with excellent food is a must."

  • "Great food, great service, efficient service. Ambience gorgeous. Every time I am in Kent the Cricketers is booked for either Fri eve, Sat or Sunday lunch. From the cosy table's which feel like you in your own home with food to match. Never been disappointed, the whole experience consistently great. Thank-you to those at the helm guiding your ship! we the guests salute you..."

  • "3 of us went for dinner on Sunday. We had 1 roast which looked lovely and the plate was cleared!! 2 other options were from the main menu because we didn't fancy roast and the options on there should really suit anyone, lots to choose from. Overall food was good, lots to look at in this pub has bags of character and staff were also great. Would definitely go back again and would like to see it in the summer where u can sit out near the windmill - look forward to it!!"
    dined on 23/02/2014
  • "Have been to The Cricketers many times before and have been perfectly satisfied, but the food we received on Sunday we felt was overpriced. eg Starters - had 1 anancini ball (£6.95) - the menu stated arancini balls. We also felt the quality of the main courses didn't warrant the price we were charged. The brown sauce bottle needed a clean as it was all caked up with dried sauce."

  • "I was originally going to the resturant in a group but unfortunately a sickness bug hit everyone and they dropped like flies so my husband and I went on our own and had a fantastic time. The atmosphere was great, the staff were very friendly, attentive and efficient. The choice of food was extensive and meant I wanted everyting on the menu. We had a really lovely evening."
    dined on 22/02/2014
  • "Great food in a nice warm atmosphere. Skinny chips too much like McDonald's though! A twice cooked chip option would be good! Chunky chips had little flavour. Other than that, the food was of a very good standard."
    dined on 22/02/2014
  • "A Birthday meal for my son , with family and friends was lovely. The food was excellent and the staff, both bar and table waiting were very attentive and helpful. However the evening was marred towards the end by the drunken behaviour of a man , who I was led to believe is an employee, hopefully off duty that evening.! He was at the bar with firends , became very loud , at one point shouted so loudly, startling all the guests in the building. He staggered through to where our table was , nearly falling onto my sister. Other staff had to coax him to go upstairs to the private area. I feel this person should not have been allowed to get to this state where he was clearly upsetting and disturbing other customers."

  • "I have eaten here before but not for a light bite lunch. As always the ambiance, service and food choice was excellent. I would highly recommend you. Thank-you"
    dined on 19/02/2014
  • "Met me daughter and sister in law for a very pleasent lunch - the waitress was very attentive - perhaps a little too much at time - but the food was nice. Only criticism was would not have liked to have been rushed quite so much."
    dined on 19/02/2014
  • "Superb opportunity to meet in a relaxed and warm pub/restaurant - we have been doing it for sixteen years. As most of the party are ladies in their seventies (and eighties) it meets all our needs. Great selection on the menu, reasonable price and great service in a comfortable ambient restaurant - see you again next year!"

  • "A group of friends and I booked a table via the toptable website. I found the link on the cricketers inn website. one of my guests had mentioned the cricketers inn so I had a look and booked a table. Before we went I told all the guests to have a look at the menu before we go. I phone the cricketers inn the week before to see if the menu was likely to change, I was told to view the menu the day of the booking. so I did!. On the day we arrived and the place was pretty busy, nice atmosphere. We got a quick drink and then sat down. We ordered our food and it was spot on! very nice! and the bill was pretty good too,I thoroughly enjoyed my evening and so did all my guest. We will be back very soon."
    dined on 15/02/2014
  • "Not quite up to the usual excellent standard, perhaps because they were so busy. Our meals were confused and we ended up with missing bits (no stuffing, no gravy, no vegetables) and my husband had the wrong meal altogether. The food was very nice, when it all came."
    dined on 09/02/2014
  • "Service was great and food was lovely - fab Sunday Afternoon"
    dined on 09/02/2014
  • "Staff fantastic as usual, came to celebrate hubbies 35 years service at KC , food lovely, starters excellent squid and scallops, we both had the steak , hubbies really lovely mine sinewy but that's a chance you take on steak anywhere, lemon, choc desert gorgeous and rounded off with a good coffee ,the only think that spoilt it a bit was the table through the wall had 2 men talking loudly and swearing, not very romantic but will return to a different table shortly.overall a lovely evening."
    dined on 06/02/2014
  • "We were impressed with the food, and the service given. Allowed to try the beers before deciding, and they cooked an omelette for a child in our group who didn't fancy anything from the menu!! Overall it was a lovely evening, good size portions and a pleasant homely atmosphere."
    dined on 29/01/2014
  • "The minute we stepped inside the Cricketers we could sense a good atmosphere. It was busy and buzzy. From then on everything was good."
    dined on 26/01/2014
  • "Never been disappointed, visited several times for both lunch and dinner, staff always friendly and welcoming, food always very good. It's great value for the quality I thought you could taste the care and attention taken to prepare each dish."
    dined on 23/01/2014
  • "A little underwhelmed by the food. Not good enough for a return visit. Service was very good and staff friendly."
    dined on 17/01/2014
  • "The food was very good and plenty to eat. We have been regular visitors through quite a few changes but I think the last one was for the better. The restaurant is very warm in parts though so try to get a table away from the fire. Otherwise excellent."
    dined on 16/01/2014
  • "One of the better restaurants for Sunday roast, with adequate portions and very tasty. Although it was busy, the service coped well and ensured that you were happy with everything. We left feeling totally satisfied with everything. Returning for a Saturday experience!"
    dined on 12/01/2014
  • "Fab food! Helpful, friendly & patient service! Lovely atmosphere! Will return soon!"
    dined on 11/01/2014
  • "My wife had the roast beef and it was good, but I had a sirloin steak, medium-to-well. It was like chewing rubber and my plate was swimming in blood. I ate less than half of it. On some pieces I chewed and chewed but couldn't break it up and had to spit it out. I told the waiter and said he would tell the manager. When the bill came I expected some adjustment for the awful steak - free dessert or something - but nothing! I asked the waiter about it and he said the manager had tried it and they said there was nothing wrong with it. That certainly wasn't my opinion. I have a Whiting & Hammond loyalty card but I certainly won't be loyal to the Grasshopper if that's how they treat customers. Very poor customer service for a loyal customer."
