  • "My husband and I enjoyed our evening at The Daffodil immensely! The Maitre'D was very engaging, the table service was faultless: perfectly timed, attentive but not too overbearing. The decor is lovely and we enjoyed hearing about the history of the building."

  • "Great food, great service, but above all great atmosphere. the whole package made it a wonderful venue for my wife and I to celebrate our 30th wedding anniversary. If we lived nearby we'd be there on a regular basis!"

  • "We had an excellent time and everyone enjoyed their meal. Will definitely be returning and will recommend to all our friends. The free sparkler in a scoop of ice cream was a lovely touch."

  • "The Daffodil Restaurant is a fine dining experience and well worth a visit. The food is fantastic. The atmosphere is buzzy. The staff are attentive but not overbearing."

  • "I booked a high tea for a party of 5.The booking process online was easy but when I rang to add someone I discovered they don't take high tea bookings online after all!So it was very lucky I rang otherwise I would not have had a table even with my booking reference! On the day I arrived and my party were already in the bar area. Even though I am very clearly disabled, with disabled walking aids, they offered me no help up to the bar. It was two flights of stairs and the staff watched me struggle alone. They didn't even offer to inform my party I was there to save me walking up and down the stairs! The food was delicious. The pana cotta was amazing! They failed to offer a choice of tea which was dissapointing. They also failed to bring our bill"

  • "The Daffodil ticked all the boxes for our reunion meal: Interesting nostalgic venue in the trendy Suffolks area, lively modern vibe, good menu, well- presented food and efficient service by friendly young staff."

  • "Had an evening birthday dinner for our adult daughter. We were met by a smiling very welcoming manager who showed us to our table where our waitress met us with warm wishes for a happy birthday to our daughter. There was a good selection of all four courses , portion sizes were very good and my steak in particular, cooked to perfection. Importantly the bill was within our expectation level. Overall we were very pleased with the meal and the pleasant food and wine waiters. Our daughter's dessert was presented with a charming firework candle and a sung "happy birthday" from the waitress which we all enjoyed and felt the meal was very special for the occasion. We enjoyed the experience and will certainly come again."

  • "We viisted early evening to make use of the set menu, and had starters and mains. The starters were fine, and then two of us had the spicy pork sausages. This dish turned out to be one sausage presented in two halves. Sausages on the menu does I think imply more than one, so this seemed to us somewhat parsimonious. The spicy sausage was tasty but was not spicy to the palate of the two of us who ordered it. The red wine we ordered with the meal was, in contrast, superb. We did mention our concern to one young waiter who enquired whether we were enjoying our meal, and had nothing to say in response. We mentioned it again to the person who took our payment who said she would pass our comments on."

  • "2nd visit, and atmosphere and service remain absolutely superb. Cocktails were again excellent, even if the bar was slightly overcrowded. Service to table, and starters were also of the same high standard as last visit. Fillet steak, and Sirloin on the bone were excellent, whilst the 2 rib eye steaks were not of a similar standard. Whilst aware that rib eye is never going to be as good as the other cuts, both people who had rib eye were disappointed. At that price level, even the rib eyes should be good. Maybe picky, but it did dampen the otherwise outstanding experience. Still thoroughly recommend this restaurant as an outstanding venue, and we will return."

  • "The Daffodil is outstanding, dress up for the evening, great Jazz on a Monday night"

  • "Very pleasant as usual. Salad starter excellent, fish dish good but could have been better if not let down by the poor chips. Poached half a Peach ok - menu said Peaches so was expecting at least one whole one!. Jazz music started badly with poorly adjusted sound levels! I actually preferred the low level background music prior to the 'live' during which conversation at the rear of the restaurant became very difficult. However, overall an enjoyable evening - just a few tweaks needed to go up another notch."

  • "All aspects of our evening were outstanding. My Wife and one of our guests have physical restrictions and the table booked ws in a booth upstairs. The Receptionist reacted brilliantly by quickly reassigning us to a table on the ground floor, brilliant attitude. The service was professional and nicely paced such that we were ready for the next course just as it arrived. An evening to celebrate my Wife's xx birthday was made memerable by the Daffodil !!"
    dined on 26/07/2014
  • "Wonderful setting, service and food and we were looked after from booking online, through to leaving the restaurant. All staff very professional and friendly and we would recommend to anyone if you value service and very good food. The food and cocktails are expensive but like most things in life you get what you pay for............the best steak i have ever had !"
    dined on 25/07/2014
  • "Exquisite food, excellent descrete service but a very long wait until we got our food. Waited almost an hour between starter and main but received no appology. Opposite table got served similar time and had it complementary. I never ask for anything but would have appreciated the usually attentive staff to confirmed this was ok with us.also very hot inside, beautiful interior made up for it though! Highly reccommed and hope to be back soon!!"

  • "We dined at the Daffodil for our anniversary and it was great! The staff were attentive without being intrusive and both the food and wine were excellent, although we thought the wine a tad pricey. Overall a great evening and we would go again on our return to Cheltenham."

  • "Possibly our expectations were too high as felt our experience lacked something but cannot identify anything in particular. Almost as if The Daffodil's local notoriety of being amazing has created issues for them. While eating we got onto the topic of how people no longer dress up for evenings out like the theatre or special meals and how disappointing this is. Suppose expectations of the atmosphere / styling being more in keeping with the period for the night were not met. Very glad we went for dinner as food was very nice and had a gorgeous French Martini. However not sure will go again for anything apart from afternoon tea."
    dined on 23/07/2014
  • "The atmosphere was lovely, didn't feel pretentious but felt special enough for an occasion or a romantic night out/group get together. Beautiful surroundings and great friendly attentive service. the food although quite expensive was delicious. We shared the 1kg rib of beef and it was so tasty and filling! Also the pina coladas were rather nice too! Would definitely recommend going here!"

  • "We went for a romantic meal for two on a Friday night. Love the decor, ambience and atmosphere & cannot fault that at all. However, the food was complete underwhelming . Our starter scallops came as 3 tiny dried over cooked discs on a huge chunk of over salty pork/ bacon. The pea purée was lost too. We would have sent them back but had waited for 30 mins for them. We did tell the waitress & she apologised. Our mains were similar-Okay but lacking in flavour. We had the sharing taster desserts which once again looked amazing but none of them had any real flavour. The chocolate fondant was a dried up cake in a cup! It seemed to be all about looking good but with no attention to flavour and cooking the food well. Very disappointing food!"

  • "Lunch here with a friend on Monday. The restaurant was fairly quiet, but the surounidngs are nice and service and food good. Fixed price menu - Beef corquette then beetroot risotto. Would like to go again in the evening when busier. Very nice"

  • "Sadly over the past couple of years, the service and food have deteriorated. We weren't shown to our table until 20 minutes after the time it was booked for and then only after asking, we then waited for the menus and again for our order to be taken - despite having spent previous hour having cocktails .The starter portions were tiny Duck & Goats Cheese, main course Risotto had no flavour and steak (ribeye) really wasn't up to the mark either.Presentation good and staff polite and friendly. Sadly it will be cocktails only at the Daffodil in future. There are lots of terrific restaurants in town and based on recent experience the Daffodil really needs to up its game.Prices are far too high for the offering.Love the ambience, but ...."

  • "I took my two best girl friends for a meal at the Daffodil to celebrate their birthdays. They both loved it. The ambiance was soft with smooth music playing in the background. The service and staff were impeccable, our glasses were never empty!! We were seated at the back so had the waft of cigarette smoke when staff went for a 'quick one' outside. I did ask for a booth but unfortunately it was a little out of the way. The food was excellent, a little pricey, but ample portions. We are definitely going again but next time on a Monday for the Jazz evening. I would recommend it."
    dined on 02/07/2014
  • "Very enjoyable. Have visited the Daffodil on two occasions. This occasion being a Tuesday. The previous occasion was a Monday and there was live music. Although the live music was a little loud it did add to the ambience. I had descibed and sold the Daffodil to my fellow diners with the music. Having said that we all enjoyed the meal, the company and the theatre surround. So no complaints"

  • "Lovely restaurant in the hear of 'The Suffolk's'' well placed for shopping, festivals and events. Jazz playing on Saturday lunch time, great dailies menu and fab a la carte. Always a real treat."

  • "We booked a family meal and all were impressed by the Art Deco building, the sympathetic conversion and the atmosphere. However it is the food that is the real star."

  • "I had lunch at the Daffodil with friends to celebrate my retirement. I think it was the best dining experience I've ever had. The food was excellent and the service couldn't have been better, the staff were very attentive, quick and pleasant but didn't hover unnecessarily. The bar staff were excellent too. The old cinema interior has been well decorated and seems perfect for a restaurant. I plan to go there again soon for afternoon tea."

  • "It's one of the top restaurants in Cheltenham! Good Food, Great Service and Delightful Ambience and not to mention the Fabulous Décor too!"

  • "As always, a good opportunity to network and enjoy a good meal. Excellently-cooked meat and vegetables and then a cheeseboard to die for (French this month). Wine service a little lacking so sit on a table within easy view of the sommelier! Otherwise, you may get the end of the bottle emptied into your glass not just once but twice (as I did). Surely that is just bad luck...but why not come back with a new bottle to bring it up to a reasonable level? Advice: keep an eye on that wine waiter."

  • "I booked a table at the Daffodil with intent on asking my girlfriend to marry me after a wonderful meal. Once I had spoken with Ben the restaurant manager and his fantastic team, they pulled out the stops to make this the best evening possible! Fantastic service, mind blowing quality of food, upgraded to a fantastic private table and Ben even managed to arrange several additional surprises for my new fiance! Absolute perfection! Will be booking the same table on the same date next year to celebrate! A huge thank you to everyone at the daffodil who made it so perfect!!! See you again soon! Ian & Elin"

  • "Having booked an early dinner at 6pm on line and confirming our reservation over the phone we were never informed that a speed dating party would be going on at the same time. The noise from the party was overbearing, the waitress looked very embarrassed and apologised however she could do nothing about it and at no point did any management come to talk to us. We fill it would have been better to tell us in advance that the Speed Dating Party was going on so we could have made other arrangements and if this is a regular party they should tell people or take no additional booking at the same time. Very disappointed with the whole experience, I would not recommend this restaurant as there are many better restaurants in Cheltenham !!!!!!"

  • "I took my fiancé to The Daffodil for her birthday. We go there for all special occasions because it cannot be best for ambience, the food is ALWAYS fantastic, and the service top notch."

  • "We had booked on line and requested a romantic table for two to celebrate our anniversary. We were greeted on arrival and shown to the cocktail bar which was very nice and set up the evening very well. After about 20 mins we went to our table and it was off the beaten path of the traffic and yes it was what we had asked for. The atmosphere was busy but good, the service was good but the meals were satisfactory So overall, a good 7 points really, the surroundings and service were special but the food was functional."

  • "The food was excellent on Saturday evening 14th June. 5 of us were in a booth on the first floor. The noise from other diners was deafening. I could not hear the person opposite & could just hear the person sitting next to me. It was just as noisy downstairs. Our waitress was willing, but untrained. I lacked a knife for my main course, but could not attract her attention, because she was gazing over the balcony at the diners below. She failed to ask us if we lacked anything when bringing our main meals. One of my guests wanted tartare sauce with her fish, after my knife was brought & again had to try & get the waitress. She was not supervising the diners' needs."
