  • "The atmosphere was lovely, didn't feel pretentious but felt special enough for an occasion or a romantic night out/group get together. Beautiful surroundings and great friendly attentive service. the food although quite expensive was delicious. We shared the 1kg rib of beef and it was so tasty and filling! Also the pina coladas were rather nice too! Would definitely recommend going here!"

  • "We went for a romantic meal for two on a Friday night. Love the decor, ambience and atmosphere & cannot fault that at all. However, the food was complete underwhelming . Our starter scallops came as 3 tiny dried over cooked discs on a huge chunk of over salty pork/ bacon. The pea purée was lost too. We would have sent them back but had waited for 30 mins for them. We did tell the waitress & she apologised. Our mains were similar-Okay but lacking in flavour. We had the sharing taster desserts which once again looked amazing but none of them had any real flavour. The chocolate fondant was a dried up cake in a cup! It seemed to be all about looking good but with no attention to flavour and cooking the food well. Very disappointing food!"

  • "Lunch here with a friend on Monday. The restaurant was fairly quiet, but the surounidngs are nice and service and food good. Fixed price menu - Beef corquette then beetroot risotto. Would like to go again in the evening when busier. Very nice"

  • "Sadly over the past couple of years, the service and food have deteriorated. We weren't shown to our table until 20 minutes after the time it was booked for and then only after asking, we then waited for the menus and again for our order to be taken - despite having spent previous hour having cocktails .The starter portions were tiny Duck & Goats Cheese, main course Risotto had no flavour and steak (ribeye) really wasn't up to the mark either.Presentation good and staff polite and friendly. Sadly it will be cocktails only at the Daffodil in future. There are lots of terrific restaurants in town and based on recent experience the Daffodil really needs to up its game.Prices are far too high for the offering.Love the ambience, but ...."

  • "I took my two best girl friends for a meal at the Daffodil to celebrate their birthdays. They both loved it. The ambiance was soft with smooth music playing in the background. The service and staff were impeccable, our glasses were never empty!! We were seated at the back so had the waft of cigarette smoke when staff went for a 'quick one' outside. I did ask for a booth but unfortunately it was a little out of the way. The food was excellent, a little pricey, but ample portions. We are definitely going again but next time on a Monday for the Jazz evening. I would recommend it."

  • "Very enjoyable. Have visited the Daffodil on two occasions. This occasion being a Tuesday. The previous occasion was a Monday and there was live music. Although the live music was a little loud it did add to the ambience. I had descibed and sold the Daffodil to my fellow diners with the music. Having said that we all enjoyed the meal, the company and the theatre surround. So no complaints"

  • "Lovely restaurant in the hear of 'The Suffolk's'' well placed for shopping, festivals and events. Jazz playing on Saturday lunch time, great dailies menu and fab a la carte. Always a real treat."

  • "We booked a family meal and all were impressed by the Art Deco building, the sympathetic conversion and the atmosphere. However it is the food that is the real star."

  • "I had lunch at the Daffodil with friends to celebrate my retirement. I think it was the best dining experience I've ever had. The food was excellent and the service couldn't have been better, the staff were very attentive, quick and pleasant but didn't hover unnecessarily. The bar staff were excellent too. The old cinema interior has been well decorated and seems perfect for a restaurant. I plan to go there again soon for afternoon tea."

  • "It's one of the top restaurants in Cheltenham! Good Food, Great Service and Delightful Ambience and not to mention the Fabulous Décor too!"

  • "As always, a good opportunity to network and enjoy a good meal. Excellently-cooked meat and vegetables and then a cheeseboard to die for (French this month). Wine service a little lacking so sit on a table within easy view of the sommelier! Otherwise, you may get the end of the bottle emptied into your glass not just once but twice (as I did). Surely that is just bad luck...but why not come back with a new bottle to bring it up to a reasonable level? Advice: keep an eye on that wine waiter."

  • "I booked a table at the Daffodil with intent on asking my girlfriend to marry me after a wonderful meal. Once I had spoken with Ben the restaurant manager and his fantastic team, they pulled out the stops to make this the best evening possible! Fantastic service, mind blowing quality of food, upgraded to a fantastic private table and Ben even managed to arrange several additional surprises for my new fiance! Absolute perfection! Will be booking the same table on the same date next year to celebrate! A huge thank you to everyone at the daffodil who made it so perfect!!! See you again soon! Ian & Elin"

  • "Having booked an early dinner at 6pm on line and confirming our reservation over the phone we were never informed that a speed dating party would be going on at the same time. The noise from the party was overbearing, the waitress looked very embarrassed and apologised however she could do nothing about it and at no point did any management come to talk to us. We fill it would have been better to tell us in advance that the Speed Dating Party was going on so we could have made other arrangements and if this is a regular party they should tell people or take no additional booking at the same time. Very disappointed with the whole experience, I would not recommend this restaurant as there are many better restaurants in Cheltenham !!!!!!"

  • "We had booked on line and requested a romantic table for two to celebrate our anniversary. We were greeted on arrival and shown to the cocktail bar which was very nice and set up the evening very well. After about 20 mins we went to our table and it was off the beaten path of the traffic and yes it was what we had asked for. The atmosphere was busy but good, the service was good but the meals were satisfactory So overall, a good 7 points really, the surroundings and service were special but the food was functional."

  • "The food was excellent on Saturday evening 14th June. 5 of us were in a booth on the first floor. The noise from other diners was deafening. I could not hear the person opposite & could just hear the person sitting next to me. It was just as noisy downstairs. Our waitress was willing, but untrained. I lacked a knife for my main course, but could not attract her attention, because she was gazing over the balcony at the diners below. She failed to ask us if we lacked anything when bringing our main meals. One of my guests wanted tartare sauce with her fish, after my knife was brought & again had to try & get the waitress. She was not supervising the diners' needs."

  • "This is the second time that we have had the pleasure to dine at the Daffodil, we reserve this for special occasions and family gatherings and it has not disappointed. The food, of universal excellence, is the best I have come across in Cheltenham and rates highly compared to many establishments of a similar ilk in London and further afield. The service was knowledgable, attentive and friendly without being overbearing and the venue adds class to any special occasion. I could not recommend the Daffodil highly enough, but don't go there too often ... I will never be able to get a table!!"
    dined on 14/06/2014
  • "While the ambience is good and service OK, the food is not a lot to write home about. I had the liver and I know that regulations demand it should reach a certain temperature while cooking, which ruins it, why then take any notice, they don't in France or just take it off the menu. Not impressed really and automatic service charging I do not like."

  • "Dined with my Father for his 89th Birthday. Everything about the meal, service and atmosphere were perfect. An absolutely wonderful setting for any occasion."

  • "Lovely and stunning location which was great ....... However the service was surely and average to say the least ..... We were forgotten in the bar ..... Our orders were taken and the delivery of our order was perfunctory at best! It's a real shame as we were really looking forward to it......"

  • "The setting of an old cinema set the ambiance for the evening which was welcoming and relaxed. Staff were very friendly, attentive and professional in all that they did which contributed to the atmosphere. Food was exceptional and the cocktails were the best ever.I could not give this establishment a higher rating, a truly amazing experience."

  • "First time at The Daffodil and will definitely return. Only low point was the pre dinner glass of champagne which was regrettably flat, having been the last of a re-sealed bottle. Credit where its due though, it was replaced immediately without fuss, and with an apology."

  • "Booked this after reading the other positive reviews on OpenTable. Some of the food was very good - especially the scallops to start, but the streak was merely good, though the sea bass and dessert were also excellent. Nice surroundings, really excellent service. "

  • "We had an excellent lunch at the Daffodil. My husband had the pork, which was sensational, and my fish was beautifully cooked. You must try the dessert sharing plate - out of this world! The staff are efficient and friendly, and knowledgeable too. Definitely one to recommend. "

  • "Service was fantastic as usual The food was not up to standard it's my second time here and the first time I came 2 years ago food was amazing so I was very dissatisfied "

  • "Visited last year, it was fantastic. This visit, we were Dissapointed with the service - we asked for a bottle of champagne with our meal and after 15minutes it still hadn't arrived,so we had to ask again. We also asked if we could have our coffee upstairs, we were told yes, but then forgotten about. We had to ask twice for our coffee. Food was very tasty and well presented, great evening. However, last year we also got the discovery menu and it had 5 mini starters to share, this occasion only had 3. Same with desserts, last time we have 5 desserts and this time only 3. So in comparison to last visit, we were Dissapointed. Would we return? Not yet, as the service let us down. When we spent that much money, we expect first class service."

  • "The Daffodil is unique. The 1920 decor gives added value to what is an outstanding restaurant. My wife and I have visited on a number of occasions since we moved to Cheltenham, and have attended two group bookings. From Reception to paying the bill, every member of staff gives the impression that they are genuinely pleased to see and serve you. Whilst my wife and I do visit other restaurants the Daffodil is number one. "

  • "A bit disappointing. Standard of food ranged from okay to nice. Good points: - Dallies menu good value for money but obviously choice is a bit limited so most of us went for the main menu. - We were a table of 6 and there was no problem adding an extra person with just a few hours notice. - Service was good. - Great venue, nice to have a view of the kitchen in place of cinema screen. - Very nice desert - Rhubarb and Almond tart. Disappointing points: - Main menu felt expensive. - Food mainly disappointing. Had Cod for main. Potatoes did not resemble jersey royals, asparagus didn't taste very fresh and whole thing drowned in butter a bit. - Position of table wasn't great, with waiter having to squeeze by. - Shame no band/music. "

  • "Had a really lovely evening at the Daffodil restaurant. Went on a monday so got 2 martinis for the price of 1. Food was really nice- a little pricey but good for a special occasion. Had live jazz music. "

  • "We had a lovely evening in a great setting. It was a Monday and so there was a jazz band playing. The music seemed a little loud as, because this is an old cinema, all sound reverberated around us. Next time we will choose another day of the week. Food was really good but the service was a bit lacking with no smile from the waitress. A great venue for a party."

  • "This was my wife's birthday dinner, and a great occasion with superb food and service. The taster menu at £50 each was good for this special night, the desserts eventually did for us. We were seated (table of 4) right up next to the stage, so occasionally so the jazz just got a little too much for conversation. On-line booking didn't allow us to specify a position, so in future I would call and get a table towards the rear of the restaurant. But it was Martini Monday (bogof); so really, who cares?!"

  • "Pleasant warm welcome, nice cocktails upstairs. Never been there for a few years so a nice treat. Booked a booth which we didn't receive, we we're put under the stairs area which was hot and stuffy. My partner had to move seats so we could both see the Jazz entertainers. I thought booking 3/4 weeks in advance we would get a booth for his b/day treat. As a consequence we will not be rushing back."

  • "My partner and I recently visited the restaurant to celebrate our anniversary. The building is lovely, open and airy and with the perfect level of noise to allow you to relax and chat without feeling as though you're being listened to. The food was great, I would particularly recommend the scallop starter and the toffee pannacota - delicious! Drinks were good value too and many were on offer. I sadly didn't get to try a cocktail but I look forward to returning to do so. I would definitely recommend this for anyone looking for a relaxed night out with good food in a unique location. "
