Diner Reviews
  • "The perfect pre theatre dining experience…The service is good and quick and the room is busy but spacious. I found the food rather rich and would have liked some simpler options, but the kedgeree we had was good if a bit more like curried risotto! Why do the ladies toilets never have enough cubicles, as everyone finished eating at the same time to get to the theatre there was an uncomfortable queue in a restricted space."

  • "The number one choice of where to eat if in the Aldwych area. The waiters know what they need to do and how to do it. They are attentive to the tables without disturbing the diners with unnecessary questions."

  • "Overall great and efficient service. A busy yet great venue to meet for business meetings."

  • "Good atmosphere even on a Monday evening. Waiter was very attentive and after I mentioned that I have a gluten allergy I got gluten free bread without asking for it. The waiting time between starters and main was a bit long as we were on pre theatre but we managed in time even though I had to send back the calves' liver as it was well done instead of medium rare. All in all a good dining experience with attentive service."

  • "The four of us went for Sunday brunch. Beautiful setting, lovely buzz about the place, polite waiters, the table presentation - the silverware, all the special forks and utensils - added a charming touch. We had a two hour limit on the table that we were told about in advance, so as we decided to stay longer the staff were kindly able to arrange for a table in the Gallery (the area with no tablecloth) so that we could continue. Shortcomings: it was somewhat difficult to catch the attention of the waiters so they didn't take our order/bring the food as quickly as we might have liked (this way we wouldn't have had to move tables). No Eggs Royale on the eggs menu; the egg in my Eggs Benedict wasn't as runny as it should."

  • "I went at around 2 pm for lunch. The table was ready and the ambience was great. The restaurant was buzzing and very lively. In terms of service, the waiters were always available to answer our questions or service our requests. The food was quite good overall. We ordered the following: Viennese Hotdog - 4/5 - The brioche bread and the actual hotdog were quite good. However, the sauerkraut could have been better. The roasted potatoes were great. Salted Beef Pretzel - 3/5 - The beef lacked flavour, and the bread didn't feel fresh. Pistachio lemon Millefeuille - 5/5 - Great combination. Franz-Joseph Kaiserschmarren with plum compote - 5/5 - Fantastic!"

  • "it was the first time our friends had been to The Delaunay and they assumed it had been opened since the 1930's - which is meant as a compliment to the ambiance and the classy atmosphere. Food is good and the service excellent: not quite sure why you need a waiter, the maître to take the order and another person to bring the food, but it doesn't matter - all part of making you feel you're in Vienna sometime in the mid-30s, I suppose!"

  • "I recommend the Delaunay for a pre/post Theater meal. The location is excellent and central. The "á la carte" menu is very extensive and cater for all appetite. I praise their substantial selection if sausages! Truly excellent and well priced. The ambiance is very welcoming. A nice evening out."

  • "Went for my Dad's birthday - he really enjoyed it! Second time I've been here and I definitely would come again."

  • "Table setting and linen superb; bread offering unique, ice water plentiful, menu varied, service polite and efficient --- we are tourists and this all added to the feeling of a different experience from most pre-theatre restaurants."
    dined on 13/08/2014
  • "The food was up to a great standard as usual, but the service was fairly slow to begin with, then everything arrived fairly close together."

  • "Met my good friend and her daughter for brunch before a show. I was introducing them to 'my favourite place'. Overall we had a good time. Unfortunately it wasn't the 'classic' Delaunay experience as there were 3 errors with our order which was annoying; especially as the 3rd was the previous 2 appearing on the bill. Very annoying. Don't let that stop you though. It was the first less than exemplary experience in over 10 visits. I'll be returning."

  • "Thankyou for being in London! I now live in NYC but look forward to my trips especially coming to your restaurant!"

  • "The Delaunay never fails to disappoint for a business meal. It's a lovely looking restaurant with great staff. We went for breakfast this time and the food was lovely as always."

  • "Inattentive rude waiters and waitresses Continued to chat and gossip despite asking for help and to order Won't be returning"
    dined on 07/08/2014
  • "As before, the restaurant is, whilst described as reminiscent of 'high Europe' also portrays an early 20th Century Britain, with its formal elegance. The service is slick, the silverware luxurious and the food faultless. Definitely my favourite place for breakfast... the only thing is, I'm glad I don't have to pick up the tab."
    dined on 06/08/2014
  • "Very grand location, good food. A fun pre or post theatre meal."
    dined on 02/08/2014
  • "This large impressive restaurant, once a bank, offers almost everything a diner could want, especially one who likes cuisine with an Austrian slant though there is a wide choice. Well-prepared food comes in substantial quantities, professionally served. The kedgeree is among the best I have ever had. The restaurant usually seems to be full or almost full (booking well in advance is recommended) and tends to be rather noisy. And the bill may come as an unpleasant surprise. But the restaurant remains one of the best of its kind in London."

  • "We were lucky enough to have tickets for Wolf Hall and Bring Up the Bodies across the road from the Delaunay, which was therefore the obvious choice for dinner between the two plays. The restaurant was well geared up for this and service was friendly and efficient, but we certainly did not feel rushed. The food was excellent and whole experience felt special."

  • "Walking in to the restaurant at The Delaunay feels like you are being transported to New York. It has a warming look and feel. I ordered the granola and yogurt and it was really yummy. Was refreshing to see different options for breakfast, including the potato cake which my friend had and said was really tasty! I will definitely be returning to try more!"

  • "Very friendly staff and exciting menu let down onlyby the unspecial pizza like starte - howvere everything esles was a real treat. Great for Special occasions"
    dined on 31/07/2014
  • "We went for pre theatre dinner and sensibly were asked about which theatre we were going to which meant they could get the timing right. We had a very unrushed meal as a result which was good but not exceptional. The waiter sensibly advised us to share one of the starters as well. Would recommend for theatre meal."
    dined on 28/07/2014
  • "it's great but expensive & it no worse than most of the current 'in' places.would have been a 5 if it felt better value.everything else was outstanding as usual just wish i could afford to eat there every week"
    dined on 23/07/2014
  • "We had a pre-theatre meal and the restaurant was quite busy. The service is very good and the dining room is spacious, elegant and has a good atmosphere. I can recommend the beef stroganoff which was excellent. If we'd had time for 3 courses, coffee and a bottle of wine, then it would have been an expensive meal."
    dined on 23/07/2014
  • "My friend Fran and I had a lovely meal at this fabulous restaurant. As we arrived we were asked if it was pre theatre so obviously there was no waiting between courses. I had chilled tomato soup, beef stroganoff and half a banana split!! HEAVEN! Lovely staff and felt very posh although not stuffy at all! We arrived at 5pm and 10 minutes later it was full and buzzing."
    dined on 23/07/2014
  • "We enjoyed a pre theatre meal and although it was early for dinner the place was busy with a good atmosphere in this beautiful building.. We had a small problem with one dish but this was rectified quickly and professionally and would not deter us from returning. A good menu choice and friendly service."
    dined on 22/07/2014
  • "The wieners are just faboulous especially the cheese one. Must try omelette Arnold Bennett next time though!"
    dined on 21/07/2014
  • "I really enjoyed brunch at the Delaunay. The room is wonderful, the service attentive and the food delicious. It was a hot summer day - and somehow I can imagine the room really being amazing in winter as it is quite dark somehow ... but a great place!"
    dined on 20/07/2014
  • "I went to the Delaunay a couple of times for brunch and decided to take my fiance and his parents there for his dad's birthday on a Sunday lunch. We all loved the beef Sunday roast which was decent size and very tasty. We didn't need any sides even though we ordered two to share between four of us. We also enjoyed the pear crumble. They all loved the decor and the attention of the staff. We'll definitely go back perhaps for afternoon tea this time:)"
    dined on 20/07/2014
  • "We placed 4 order of Sunday Roast Beef as it supposed very good but this time was so chewy and half of it was fatty - so disappointed; 2 order of fish, the fish was quite good! Remember to check with the waiter before ordering the Roast Beef."
    dined on 20/07/2014
  • "I love this place. It was the first choice for a joint birthday brunch and hit all the right bells & whistles. Buzzy ambience; delicious food & drink (great pancakes & Pol Roger); great service; interesting fellow diners;reasonably priced for what you get in return."
    dined on 20/07/2014
  • "The Delaunay is a very good restaurant which appeals to many people - the food, ambience, the staff are all very good. We take friends there regularly as we know the food and service will always be very consistent. We are never disappointed."
    dined on 14/07/2014
  • "Excellent Viennese style Cafe, serving Breakfast, Lunch Afternoon tea and Dinner. Try the Schnitzels; cucumber salad and the Kaiserschmarren. Almost like Mama used to make"
