Diner Reviews
  • "We went for pre theatre dinner and sensibly were asked about which theatre we were going to which meant they could get the timing right. We had a very unrushed meal as a result which was good but not exceptional. The waiter sensibly advised us to share one of the starters as well. Would recommend for theatre meal."

  • "it's great but expensive & it no worse than most of the current 'in' places.would have been a 5 if it felt better value.everything else was outstanding as usual just wish i could afford to eat there every week"

  • "We had a pre-theatre meal and the restaurant was quite busy. The service is very good and the dining room is spacious, elegant and has a good atmosphere. I can recommend the beef stroganoff which was excellent. If we'd had time for 3 courses, coffee and a bottle of wine, then it would have been an expensive meal."

  • "My friend Fran and I had a lovely meal at this fabulous restaurant. As we arrived we were asked if it was pre theatre so obviously there was no waiting between courses. I had chilled tomato soup, beef stroganoff and half a banana split!! HEAVEN! Lovely staff and felt very posh although not stuffy at all! We arrived at 5pm and 10 minutes later it was full and buzzing."

  • "We enjoyed a pre theatre meal and although it was early for dinner the place was busy with a good atmosphere in this beautiful building.. We had a small problem with one dish but this was rectified quickly and professionally and would not deter us from returning. A good menu choice and friendly service."

  • "The wieners are just faboulous especially the cheese one. Must try omelette Arnold Bennett next time though!"

  • "I really enjoyed brunch at the Delaunay. The room is wonderful, the service attentive and the food delicious. It was a hot summer day - and somehow I can imagine the room really being amazing in winter as it is quite dark somehow ... but a great place!"

  • "We placed 4 order of Sunday Roast Beef as it supposed very good but this time was so chewy and half of it was fatty - so disappointed; 2 order of fish, the fish was quite good! Remember to check with the waiter before ordering the Roast Beef."

  • "I love this place. It was the first choice for a joint birthday brunch and hit all the right bells & whistles. Buzzy ambience; delicious food & drink (great pancakes & Pol Roger); great service; interesting fellow diners;reasonably priced for what you get in return."

  • "The Delaunay is a very good restaurant which appeals to many people - the food, ambience, the staff are all very good. We take friends there regularly as we know the food and service will always be very consistent. We are never disappointed."

  • "Excellent Viennese style Cafe, serving Breakfast, Lunch Afternoon tea and Dinner. Try the Schnitzels; cucumber salad and the Kaiserschmarren. Almost like Mama used to make"

  • "One of the best restaurants in London. Great dining experience and atmosphere - superb service."

  • "A very good meal. Slick service but not very friendly or jolly. Smart surrounding, busy and bustling with diners."

  • "I took some overseas visitors for supper after seeing show, and even though it was quite late the place was still 'buzzing'! The food was great... Especially the Steak Tartare. Good service and atmosphere, if just a tad noisy."

  • "Late Sunday Lunch - Early Sunday Dinner .. perfect steak and stroganoff served with a professional smile. Changed dessert without hesitation for a lighter option .. excellent"

  • "Food was very good - our waiter seemd rather miserable - he ws asked about and agreed "he would rather not be there " - food was very good and service perfetly adequate ."

  • "Love the food and always have a great meal. The one place it falls down, unlike the Wolseley, is starters. Very limited choice - I'm getting a little tired of starting with salads. What about the gorgeous duck-egg taster from the Wolseley or a small pasta course, or seared tuna? Just a thought! Service quite brilliant. More nice red wines by the glass now on the menu - always welcome, especially for theatre-goers who don't want to feel drowsy after whole bottle. Room is one of the nicest in London and I MUST say the ladies loos are always spotlessly maintained. More of the same in Central and West London please. We love it for breakfast too, but, compared to the nearby Balthazar, the breakfast IS about 10 or 15 pounds overpriced for 2."

  • "Perfect for a business breakfast meeting. The service is extremely professional."

  • "I usually eat at the Delaunay for business meals - it's not cheap! The occasion this time was my son's 19th birthday and I just wanted him to enjoy good food & a great atmosphere. As usual the Delaunay delivered and we had an amazing time. Thank you"

  • "The Delaunay has an authentic Viennese ambience, and the service is excellent, which you want if you are going to the theatre - and it is in the heart of theatreland. The food is good but not outstanding and it is rather expensive. I realise that the overheads for such a large plush restaurant in such a prime location must be high. The wine I had was disappointing, but I expect they have some good ones. It is highly organised and, without making you feel rushed, they do process people through efficiently."

  • "I popped in for a solo breakfast before getting started with all the revelries of Pride London later in the day. Having eaten here before, I wasn't disappointed by the courteous and classy service - I've heard a bit about them not being so great at lunch and dinner, but I only ever eat breakfast here, when it's less of a celeb haunt. I kept it simple with coffee (excellent as always, served in a lovely art deco pot) and a couple of rounds of toast, and I no point did I feel like they wanted me to order more, a generous table time allowing me to much away in a leisurely fashion with one of the selection of papers they routinely offer breakfast customers. The bill came to just over £11 for coffee, sourdough toast and normal toast and tip."

  • "My second visit and it didn't disapiont. Took my Aunt and a Uncle for dinner (well travelled europeans living in the US). Wanted to bring them somewhere classy they are not burger society diners! We had a reservation for a later time, we arrived early - staff were very accommodating and seated us as luckily a table was available. Food was delicious, excellent choice of menu. Staff were fabulous, kept the drinks flowing and you barely noticed they were there. Great ambience you wouldn't think you were in a London. Can't wait to go back!"

  • "Great, reliable menu and efficient service - never disappoints"
    dined on 16/06/2014
  • "The room here is fabulous: impressive deco, good size tables, spacious. The Delauney feels sumtuous whilst offering a very reasonably priced menu from sandwiches to a three course meal. Most people order one of the various schitzels on offer at a variety of prices beginning with a beautifully cooked plate sized piece of chicken. This is not fine dining but it is consistent, reasonably priced, served well in relaxing yet impresssive surroundings. One of my favourite places in the West End."

  • "Always a pleasure dining at The Delaunay, particularly for special celebrations. Consistent quality and service and a lovely ambience."

  • "I have been to the Delaunay many times and it's always so good, whether it's taking staff out, my mum for lunch , a romantic dinner, brunch with friends , it's always great, the food, service make it such good value"
    dined on 14/06/2014
  • "The Delaunay has a nice menu full of classics. I went with colleague for lunch and enjoyed the atmosphere but sadly the service let it down on this occasion. Having requested a salad with no nuts, it promptly showed up including the nuts which were disguised under a lot of dressing - thankfully I do not have an allergy. Additionally, my drink and my colleagues side dish both failed to turn up and required two reminders. The food could have been very good, but it was marred by these interruptions. I think the Delaunay has a lot to offer and could be a very smart place for business lunches or romantic evenings, but sadly it did not met expectations on this occasion."

  • "We went to The Delaunay for pre-theatre dinner - and had not allowed ourselves much wiggle-room on time. We needn't have worried. The service was fast and efficient without appearing rushed. The food was great as was the wine. A great pre-theatre meal."

  • "A Germanic tilt to the menu. Had a good quails egg salad starter followed by a large schnitzel. Needed to order sides to go with it. All nicely done. Small lunch time wine list but reasonably priced. A great setting efficiently run. Would be good to include a set lunch menu."
    dined on 06/06/2014
  • "Great service despite being very busy dealing with pre-theatre crowd. Food arrived quickly and nothing was too much trouble for the very attentive staff. Great menu with lots of choice from sandwiches to more formal main courses. "

  • "with an attentive wait staff dealing efficiently with orders to get us out in time. A lovely room, small plates just right for pre-theatre food and all in all a charming experience."
    dined on 02/06/2014
  • "We had set reservations ahead of time for brunch, but as we turned up a bit early they offered us a seat at the bar. We had excellent Bloody Marys and a nice offering of a delicious cheesy roll from their on - site bakery. We were promptly seated and offered impeccable service entirely throughout our visit. The dining area is an open plan with a good deal of natural sunlight, complimenting the classical decor so as to keep it airy and inviting. The roast was exquisitely tender with some tasty veg on the side. We also very much enjoyed the blueberry pancakes with creme fraiche. I would highly recommend the Delaunay for any meal, though brunch was certainly ideal to sample their famed roast. "

  • "Delaunays is a stunning looking restaurant and has a lot of atmosphere. food and service were on this occasion good and better than on my previous visit but I still find the place overpriced for what it is. "
    dined on 30/05/2014
  • "I took a client for breakfast; service was polite and attentive without being overbearing; coffee was delicious; I ordered granola with berries and yoghurt and it was perfect - everything very fresh and beautifully presented; my client ordered kedgeree and was equally happy with that; lovely relaxed ambience and attractive setting; would definitely return."

  • "STUNNING ROOM !!! FOOD GENERALLY VERY GOOD BUT LIMITED CHOICE. PREDOMINANTLY GERMAN/AUSTRIAN/EAST EUROPEAN FOOD WHICH CAN BE A BIT HEAVY ON THE STOMACH. SERVICE A BIT FRENETIC WHICH BEFITS A REALLY BUZZING PLACE."
