A word from The Dirty Habit

The Dirty Habit is a beautiful 13th Century pub situated in the picturesque Kentish village of Hollingbourne. Set on The Pilgrims Way in a designated area of natural beauty, with many walks and bike rides from the pub, it has been used by pilgrims on their way to Canterbury for centuries. It is reputed that King James II stayed at the inn whilst on his way to France via Canterbury and Dover. We offer a varied selection of freshly prepared food all day every day, both traditional English as well as continental specialties using local suppliers whenever possible to support the local farming community. For those special occasions we can offer a private dining service in a beautiful period room 'The Monks Corner' with oak beams to the apex and an inglenook fireplace to set it all off.

Booked this place for an anniversary celebration on Saturday. Arrived 10 minutes before reservation time only to be told that no tables were available. Waited a further 30 minutes and then left. There were at least 2 free tables in the restaurant during this time but we weren't allowed to have either of them! We won't be wasting our time here again.

I've been to this pub lots of times over the years. Everything from special occasions, where we've had the whole dining room to ourselves, to intimate romantic meals. The staff are excellent and the food is great. The only downside is the prices, with menu items being a couple of pounds more expensive than other places, but that keeps the clientele respectible.

Delightful interior, welcoming ambience and friendly, attentive staff. Terrific Sunday roast (which is so often a disappointment, even in the best establishments) and a fabulous fish platter featuring, among other lovely offerings, the best prawns I've ever had in the South East (or anywhere outwith the west coast of Scotland come to that). A good choice of wines by the glass and reasonable prices. One of those country pubs which makes you wonder why they can't all be like that.

Went to the Dirty Habit on a Saturday evening. The booking itself was difficult to get and in the end we could only get a 6.15pm slot as it was so busy (shows in its popularity). On the plus side, food was great and came very quickly. I chose the partridge and pigeon which was understandably is bit tough, but my friends had more regular dishes which they seemed to devour very quickly. My desert was delicious. Service was second to none - all waiters were super attentive and polite. On the down side, we got seated at a table facing the bar so came 7.15-30pm there was a hoard of people closing into to our space - I felt like I was in the way - but that quickly went down as those people took their seats. Finally, the menu could do with a bit more choice/ some slightly cheaper dishes, otherwise expect to spent an average of £15 per main.

Food was amazing best pork belly I've ever eaten and I've tried a few!! Went for a friends 30th and they made us feel very welcome and even allowed us to have a 20min break after our starters as we had eaten too much! Will be going back soon for sure!

We have eaten in there a few times before and never really disappointed. Unfortunately we arrived a little later on a Sunday (7 pm) and the menu only had a limited roast meat selection (1 belly pork left). I was not disappointed with the alternatives, but will bare it in mind next time I book on a Sunday. Great service as always

We booked a table at this restaurant to celebrate our first wedding anniversary prior to going to see the Leeds Castle Fireworks. The venue itself was beautiful and the food was delicious, in particular the desert. I would definitely recommend the cardamom crème brulee. We thought the dinner was delicious. The one thing that let the rating down for this venue was the staffs attire. We felt it to be quite an upmarket venue and this was reflected in what the customers were wearing, however the staff had mismatched outfits and one was wearing grubby white trainers! It just looked awful for a 5* venue with a certificate of excellance. Some soft music playing might have been nice too.

The Dirty Habit is a very quaint venue in a picturesque village. Although we live only 10 minutes away I had never heard of The Dirty Habit prior to a friend's recommendation. Both my wife and I were delighted with every aspect of the food and service we received, we just wish we had saved room for dessert!

We ate here on a Saturday evening after being unable to get in orher places so i was sort of expecting, probably unfairly, second best. Despite arriving at 8pm we had trouble parking as the carpark is quite small & the pub is in a narrow lane but it was obviously popular. Service was efficient & friendly & the food was to a very high standard. We even had a carafe option for wine which is always wekcome as you often want more or less than a standard 750ml bottle. The outside smoking & eating area was inviting with sofas & heaters although we didnt use it as we dont smoke. The pub itself is welcoming & fairly rustic but with a nice atmosphere. Toilets were also clean & well supplied!! Would definitely go again.

This was our second visit to the DirtyHabit. The Hungarian Staff there are very friendly and attentive, but the service was slow. The meal itself was disappointing, but it was a Monday and we wondered whether it was the chef's day off. We would like to try the DH again, but certainly not on a Monday.

Third or fourth visit over last year to DH, a lovely gastro pub, well situated for excellent walks from the front door. Atmosphere is fine and food overall is good although not outstanding. Several negatives: as a group of four it was odd that one of group had to sit on a leather armchair at the table which was uncomfortably low. Although the pub was only half full it took us two hours to complete two courses, and we don't eat that slowly! Finally, in my opinion, the prices are too steep for what is on offer (both food and particularly wine) and for that reason it is hard to recommend.

We went to the Dirty Habit for Sunday Lunch based on a recommendation and we were disappointed. The service was extremely slow and when we did get served there were things that were forgotten or we were told we didn't order. It was very busy so maybe it's better to go during the week and we were also sat in one of the back rooms so not a great atmosphere.

I booked a lunchtime meal for a party of 4 and once again we were not disappointed with the service, quality, presentation, and quantity of the meals we all enjoyed. The atmosphere of the Dirty Habit is very rustic with a great deal of atmosphere. The restaurant was very busy at the end of our meal....a good sign that supports my praise. Nestled at the foot of the North Downs to the north of Hollingbourne village and adjacent to The Pilgrims Way you will find this rustic gastro pub/inn. The Dirty Habit is well regarded locally and justifiably so. For a quick lunch while on a walk we had a Moroccan Lamb Burger served with fries and relish, and beer battered cod and chips. Both beautifully cooked and presented and served by the attentive professional staff. This is a reliably good eating establishment, which I can recommend without reservation.
