Diner Reviews
  • "We arrived at 5.45 and were the only people in the restaurant. (i joked to my gf that I had booked out the entire place just for her...smoooooth!). We had just seen a matinee performance and chose this place as it looked nice - (we google street viewed it which means you can actually go into the resteraunt and snoop around so to speak). The set menu was good as it had more than the average set menu options, and for the price meant it was also really good value for money. We would go back again."

  • "I went to The Door for a business meal. Service was incredibly fast and food was very nice. Little bit noisy but otherwise very good all round. I would recommend the dessert."

  • "Visited for a client lunch, great service as ever, very attentive and helpful with recommendations for gluten free diner, everyone thoroughly enjoyed the meal"

  • "I enjoyed my visit to 'The Door'-we dined early so it was quiet to begin with. The food was good value-we stuck to the set menu which had quite a surprising variety of dishes. Although the deserts were tempting nether of us had room for one after our 2 courses but I'd like to return sometime to try one!"

  • "Scallops are uncooked, accompanying spinach are so salted you would not tell what they are. Risotto has no taste because accompanying biscotti is again salted and totally ruins your taste. Don't go, there are many other places where can eat decently for the same price."

  • "We went to The Door for an evening meal on the set menu offer. It was good value and the food was ok. We did feel a bit rushed, as although our original booking was for 8.30pm, we arrived about 45 minutes earlier. We'd only been sitting down for about 15 minutes when they told us they needed to take our order as the kitchen was closing."

  • "Nice, convenient and good value for a business meal, escpecially with the lunch offer. Wonderful beef wellington."

  • "I arrived early so had a drink at the bar and was immediately put at ease by the friendly bar staff. Our waiter was also very friendly without being overbearing. The food itself was delicious. I had scallops which were very moist but could have been a litle warmer but were presented beautifully. Main was the beef wellington as it had received good reviews on your site and i was not disappointed. The veg had a good bite. We ordered broccolli but got green beans but they were a garlicky delight. The restaurant is cosy but open and airy and decorated in lovely muted colours. We had a very pleasant evenig and I will certainly be visiting again."

  • "The set price menu was varied and not the usual set menu choices, much better than others we've sampled. Scallops and then Beef Wellington (cooked perfectly) for £15 was fantastic value. Wine list was good with starting prices at a reasonable level. The venue is much better than many converted banks as it is more intimate, and not at all noisy even when full and there is a very pleasant bar if you just want a drink. The waiters were great fun and the whole package was the best in a long time, and we've sampled a few!"

  • "great food, absolutely delicious. Went on a Monday, place was very quiet. Service was very attentive. Not drinking so deal was incredible value. Only down side was they were trying to close at 10pm!"

  • "The Beef Wellington is highly recommended. However my husband was disappointed with his seafood pasta, very small portion! Be aware that the main course does not come with vegetables (which are expensive & very small portion. Very friendly Polish waitress."

  • "First time and would not recommend this place. Upon arriving, there was no one to direct me where to go as the booking stand was empty. I asked the bar man and he told me to go upstairs. Upon asking the lady about a booking upstairs, she angrily instructed me to go downstairs. I told her there was no one there. She then went down and asked me about my booking. She told me to go upstairs again. She already looked annoyed. She was only waitress unfortunately so could not change. As a result, she was slow trying to serve other customers, making us wait an extremely long time to even order. She was annoyed when we got her attention and politely asked to order. Food was average."

  • "Have been here a few times before. Perfect location for a business lunch. Toptable menu offer also excellent value. Service was not the best on the last visit as after we were seated were then asked to move to a smaller table so had to move all our bags, coats, umbrellas, which was an awkward start to the meal."
    dined on 14/03/2014
  • "I was expecting a lot more from this place. The oysters lacked in meatiness and flavour The Steak was very average in comparison to restaurants Discription. Not exactly the hawkesmoor but if you are hungry you will get fed."
    dined on 13/03/2014
  • "Our food came before we got our drinks and withing 10 mins of ordering... Our mains came about 5 minutes after our starters. The service way too fast. Restaurant loooked tired and lacked ambience - there was a flickering lightbulb that needed changing. Overall, a pretty dissapointing dining experience."

  • "It was my first time here - recommended by friends. It was not to disappoint however i did feel the water was rushing us on as dishes were brought quite quickly. Nevertheless i rather enjoyed the food - although the dessert was a bit burnt but it was still tasty. The wine jus of the beef wellington was fabulous i love a lot of alcohol in cooking and this is just to my taste. Thank you to the door for a great set menu - with huge range of choices. The scallops were fabulously cooked to perfection as is the beef in the main...highly recommend!!!"

  • "Booked on the top table menu for two. Had a lovely meal in lovely surroundings. Food was very good, 3 course meal including beef Wellington and scallops to start for under £20 you can't complain. Drinks are standard restaurant prices. Those of you out there with a penchant for Victorian soft pornography will particularly like the wallpaper leading to the toilets quite the eye opener!"

  • "Excellent service, excellent food - always a pleasure to visit here"

  • "Very nice restaurant, lovely decor and good service. Went for the set menu. Scallops to start, which were tasty but could have been hotter. Steak as main, which was very nice - as good as some of the speciality steak restaurants in the city. Not sure I would pay the full menu prices, but the set menu is an absolute bargain and worth every penny."
    dined on 27/02/2014
  • "Went for a small business lunch, nice pub-style bar downstairs and tables upstairs. Was very quiet at 12:30 but full by 1pm. Food was good, and was good value for the area, especially with the two courses deal."

  • "I booked The Door for a lunch with colleague's and it was perfect. Great food, service and wine. We could have stayed in there all afternoon. Very buzzy atmosphere with beautiful decor."

  • "In an area where the options are either sedate, sterile or chain-like, The Door was a nice find. impressive, opulent decor; nice vibe at the bar. The restaurant is directly off the bar, so on a busy night like the thursday we where there, it can get a bit noisy - not obtrusively so though."
    dined on 20/02/2014
  • "we were there for a business lunch - booked it last minute and were pleasantly surprised - nice ambience - really good steaks and the service was excellent - i would return for sure.."

  • "We went as a group of three on the two courses for £14.95 deal. The food was excellent, the scallops and Wagyu burger were particularly good. The only down side being that maybe the service could have been a bit better but hardly noticable when with good company."
    dined on 20/02/2014
  • "There not much more to say, really. There is an excellent and innovative choice on the set and the a la carte menu, both of which are great value. We had a pair of steaks, different ones, sea bream, scallops as a starter, charlotte rousse and a sticky toffee pudding. All was good, cooked with care and attention and generous. The wine list is long and priced for location but the basic bottles on offer are great value. Service" super. We will be back. Oh, and by the way, the entrance to the toilets is worth a visit on its own! Try it and you'll see what I mean."

  • "I went to The Door on valentines' day with my partner and we both had the set menu which was £28 each. We were in the upper dining area which was small and intimate without feeling crowded. For my starter I had a lobster and potato salad with truffle mayonnaise. I was surprised to see how much lobster I got (as it was a set menu I expected them to scrimp somewhat on the portion quality and size). The same went for my main: an 8oz fillet steak topped with foie gras. The steak was cooked perfectly and must have been closer to 10-12oz. The dessert was also fantastic and we both went away feeling that we had got more than our money's worth. My only criticism is that the service was slightly slack but this would not put me off going back."

  • "Food was very good value for money and tasty. Casual setting but yet not too casual. Recommend for an evening meal with colleagues. Will try their bar next time!"

  • "The beef wellington was outstanding! Three course dinner for £16.95. You simply can't go wrong. It's a must try!!"
    dined on 10/02/2014
  • "This is my third visit to The Door and every time the service has been very good. This time we went for the three course set menu which had 5 options for each course, which is more than many set menus offer. I had the beef Wellington and was delicious. My starter and pudding were also good. This restaurant is very good value for money and I would recommend it."

  • "Great service and fabulous food at a fantastic price. The set menu had plenty to choose from and our waiter was exceptional, a thoroughly enjoyable meal and will definitely be returning, thank you"
