A word from The Ebury
The Ebury is a beautiful bar and brasserie located just off Sloane Square in the heart of Chelsea. It’s been taken over by the team that originally developed it. James Holah is back in the kitchen with an entirely new menu, they've a fantastic 130 bin new wine list and a new bar team and cocktail list. The menu marries traditional British fare with well-cooked European dishes such as Carpaccio of Salmon with Pink Peppercorn, Pickled Cucumber & Radish and Rump of Salt Marsh Lamb with Aubergine, Courgettes and Olive Oil.

On the first floor is a beautifully styled first floor dining room. Suitable for seated events for up to 45 guests or standing drinks receptions for parties of up to 100. The Ground Floor lounge bar area is also available for small private parties.

Having wanted to go here for a while, I went along very excited only to be let down on arrival when we discoveed the restaurant was shut for refurbishment! However, just along the road on the next corner we found The Orange and had a lovely evening's dining there instead - we would highly recommend it.

I booked for Sunday lunch not realising that there would be a set menu on a Sunday. They had run out of all the Sunday roast specials, there was barely anything to choose from and the service was poor. The normal menu I usually enjoy. Go elsewhere.

Lovely food and great wine list but they got our cocktail order wrong twice and didn't know what they did and didn't have in stock behind the bar. The food was lovely but they didn't have either of our wine choices and left our second bottle in view on the bar after we'd ordered it for about 10 minutes before we pointed out that it was there and our glasses were empty. The waitress announced cod, when we'd ordered plaice when she put the plates down and had to go away and find out what it actually was. Service was just not up to scratch so we asked for it to be taken off the bill and noone raised an eyebrow. I've been here before and the service was good so maybe they were having a bad night.

The chairs were an odd shape and table were very low which meant you were hunched over the table or leaning so far back as if you were in a deck chair. The food portions were disappointingly small and surprisingly expensive. Not worth the cab ride there.

We arrived to find that music was too loud so that the whole evening was spent shouting for our conversation to be heard. At one point we asked to see the Manager who never came over to see us which was poor. The food though good was accompanied by vegetables that did not correspond to what was written in the menu and no explanation. When the bill arrived, the expected service charge of 15% was outrageous and totally unwarranted. Service charge of that amount should not be a compulsory especially when you have not been given an evening of the standard you should expect from their prices. All in all not a place I could recommend due to the risk of this happening to others.

Glass on either side, feels wonderfully open and unrestricted. I found service bordering on pushy (lots of attempting to upsell olives, more wine etc) but undoubtedly attentive. Value wasn't amazing and would have been disappointing without the tastecard 50% off. Having said that we thoroughly enjoyed it and are glad to have tried it under the new ownership. Gravadlax came with a delightfully light dressing and presentation was of a consistently high standard.

  • Rare evening out ruined by Manager
    NickyfromWandsworth
    Dined on 11/10/2012
With a rare opportunity for an evening out with 2 girlfriends - due to jobs and children, this was meant to be a special evening out. Whilst enjoying quite a good meal - although disappointed by the pumpkin gnocchi, the lady who was rude to my friend - and when we challenged her, provided a cursory and clearly not-meant apology - turns out was the manager of the restaurant. It was such an appallingly rude end to the evening, that we have clearly informed others not to go - due to sheer rudeness. As customers you don't expect rudeness and CERTAINLY not from the Manager - serious attitude issue that ruined a long-awaited evening out!

Lovely room, although the unusually low tables are somewhat strange. We both had the rib eye steaks and our meals were excellent as was the wine. The ambience of the Ebury is very nice although the high ceilings can make for lots of noise when there are a few large parties in the room, as there were on the evening we were there. We thought the experience was somewhat let down by the service. It was impersonal and we weren't made to feel particularly welcome, even though it wasn't overly busy.

The food was good, wine selection OKish, when we asked for whiskey they (of course) brought the most expensive one in the restaurant. We asked for tap water - they brought us bottles...basically anything that increases the bill. The blond girl who served us seemed like she had a chip on her shoulder and that just didn't make the whole experience enjoyable

Met a colleague for a 'working lunch', as they say. Wednesday at 12.15 so didn't think it would be too busy but we ended up having the place to ourselves! Quite useful in the end. Good service, tasty food. I had a sea bass, chorizo and borlotti bean (I think) cassoulet and it was pretty good. Nice thick piece of sea bass, cooked well. Price maybe a little OTT - it is more of a gastro pub albeit priced like a middle end restaurant. Still, enjoyable meal and nice setting. I'll visit again.

I took my boyfriend here for his 40th birthday. It's a bit more pricey than the places where we would normally eat, which made it perfect for a special occasion, and the food more than justified the price. My boyfriend said the lamb was some of the best he'd ever tasted and I would definitely recommend the Parmesan gnocchi for vegetarians. My favourite dish, however, was an incredibly decadent chocolate fondant - probably the richest thing I've ever eaten! The service was swift and friendly and the wine was lovely. Portions were not huge but they didn't need to be when the flavours were so strong and the food quite rich. All in all, I would heartily recommend it and would definitely hope to be coming back soon.

Booked online with ease, which was recorded by the restaurant so when I arrived with my guest all went smoothly. The service was very good; attentive, but discreet. The restaurant and staff are very pleasant and well presented. The food was good quality and the menu had a good selection. I will go again, and have already recommended it to friends.

Went for a birthday lunch on a quiet weekday during the Olympics. Properly delicious food - well-chosen tasty British ingredients (summer squash, samphire), nothing tricksy, everything beautifully cooked and presented. Good looking place (love the chairs), and lovely big windows for people watching. The service was spot-on, friendly, helpful and well-judged, letting us chat and enjoy the meal. A treat of a lunch that made my day.

What impressed me more than the excellent food was the outstanding service provided by each member of staff at The Ebury. We ate there on a Sunday evening which was very quite however I understand it's more of a Mon-Fri hotspot. Shame the Pimlico and Chelsea residents don't make more use of this at the weekends as its outstanding. I'm going back there on Thursday again, I like it so much. Only one constructive piece of critisim. Two of my friends are over 6' tall and they had a lot of difficulty sitting at those low tables!

I've been to The Ebury before when it first opened and it's changed hands and back again to the original owners since then. They've refreshed the room which is lighter than I remember, the food is good and the service attentive. If I had one small issue is that the portions are pretty small - so make sure you get bread and some sides!

The Ebury was recommended to me by a friend and I can safely say it did not dissapoint. From the moment we walked through the door the service was impeccable, coats were taken and hung, service was polite and prompt. The food was beautiful, steak was cooked very well and the sides were delicious. We went for lunch and was £52 for lunch with a bottle of wine for two, not bad at all for the area, would defintaley recomend.

This visit was prompted by looking for restaurants in the area close to the hotel we were staying in. This came out as very good and I confirm that this is the case. We shall re-visit next year when back in the area. The food was excellently presented and cooked. The service was lacking as the Chelsea Flower Show had just finished and I think the staff found it difficult to cope with fewer guests than they had been used to. The choice of wines was well thought out and prices to suit most guests. Enjoy your visit as it will be worthwhile.

It is a classier place than a regular pub to meet up with friends, but it would probably also make a casual date place.
