Diner Reviews
  • "Nice pub but very noisy. Lots of children ( some parties going on) . Which is fine in the day time but when you go out for an evening meal it's nice to be able to hear what other people on your table are saying. We asked to be moved and did to more children! The tables all need re coating with varnish because even when we asked for ours to be cleaned it was still horrible. Food was ok, nothing special. We had the two course menu and were disappointed in the portion size. Would we go again? Don't think so as there are lots more pubs with better value for money."

  • "Service very good. Good food on early evening special menu. Puddings very good. Kids can have smaller versions of desserts from main menu. Nice pint of Enville Ale. "

  • "The food at the Ewe and Lamb comes with a hefty price tag and although it was nice, it was far from value for money. The place was heaving and we had to ask if our table was ready and could we we be seated. Within 1 minute we were asked if ready to order and it then took 20 minutes to catch the attention of someone. Drinks were ordered 3 times during the meal before they arrived. I enjoyed the food. I had ribeye steak with bearnaise sauce (not sure why they call this a tarragon hollandaise on the menu) and once I'd disassembled the Jenga style tower of chips covered in a pointless balsamic reduction, it tasted nice. The steak wasn't seasoned though and let it down. For dessert I had tirumisu which again was just ok."

  • "Had a lovely night with my Son for his 18th Birthday. This was just a get together with Family prior to the big day!! Enjoyed by all. We had a nice secluded spot with just our table in so it was away from everybody else which is good for a special occasion. Very enjoyable evening. Thank you Elaine Wilkes"

  • "This was a group booking for 12 of us celebrating Mothers Day - the staff were friendly and helpful at every turn - really looked after us - the food was delicious - and plenty of it - service was a little slow - but the place was extremely busy - and the drinks were flowing so we didn't really notice. Great time - will certainly be going back."

  • "We use the Ewe and Lamb quite a lot for business lunches and have never had any complaints and have always had very positive feedback. I will be using the restaurant myself on 1st April for a family occasion - it is my sons 18th birthday and I am positive all will be good. Many thanks Elaine Wilkes"

  • "Excellent food. Too much in fact. Service slightly slow at peak time but not an issue."

  • "Eight of us ate at The Ewe and Lamb on Sunday. Although not busy some of our order was wrong when it arrived. We were veggies, fish and meat eaters and all found a good choice on the menu. We were not given sufficient cutlery for each course. The waiting staff were poorly trained and inexperienced, although polite. It became obvious that as more people came in that the staff began to unravel. Things were dropped, forgotten and the bill incorrect. The chef here is being poorly served by front of house as we enjoyed the food..........apart from the strange sweet goo with the duck, surely something tart and fruity is more appropriate. Unfortunately another example of a would be gastro pub charging London prices without the service."

  • "I go to ewe and lamb every couple of months because the menu has a good choice, however, every time I go it's so noisy and I say "never again!" The main seating area is particularly bad as the tables are crammed in. Always spoils what would otherwise be a good dining experience"
    dined on 14/03/2014
  • "This was not my first visit to the Ewe and Lamb. I have lunched there as part of a group and on two occasions subsequently with friends. On every occasion the food and service has been excellent and very good value for money. There is also ample choice it you are vegetarian - my own preference for lunchtime eating. I look forward to trying out the very comfortable looking lounge area on some future visit."

  • "The food is very good value they do a 3 course meal in the week for £15 the portions aren't huge but big enough. The staff have been trained well on all our visits whoever has served us has been efficient and friendly."

  • "Evening made enjoyable by main courses and company of course! Pity the lovely sounding puddings did not live up to expectations."
    dined on 14/02/2014
  • "We went to the Ewe and Lamb due to the reputation of the other pubs in the group but were hugely disappointed. Fillet steak was riddled with gristle, port chop tough, duck portion expensive but not even a whole duck breast! Service was very, very slow and we had to wait ages to get drinks and the bill. Didn't deserve a tip but being British we gave one anyway. Unlikely that we will return."
    dined on 16/02/2014
  • "We were seated straight away - great as I'd got a broken ankle. The waitress took our drinks order promptly and food shortly after. Our meals were good although no-one appeared to ask if they were alright. After this service disappeared. We ate desert and then asked for the bill. I'd have liked a coffee but as no one appeared I gave up. It was pleasant enough but nothing amazing."
    dined on 08/02/2014
  • "We didn't have a great experience. We were a party of six squeezed onto a table for four. This and the fact that it was hot made for a pretty uncomfortable evening."
    dined on 08/02/2014
  • "Group booking for 4 families on a Saturday evening. Fabulous food and great atmosphere. The kids enjoyed themselves which meant all the adults did too!"
    dined on 11/01/2014
  • "We ate here early evening on a saturday in a group of 7 including two young children. The choice was great, especially from the set menu. The meals were very good and nicely presented. The children's menu wasn't that inspiring but good quality and freshly cooked. Staff were friendly and helpful. Overall we were happy customers and are likely to return again."

  • "Was recommended the Ewe and Lamb by a colleague. booked a table online no problems. They have someone to greet you upon arrival and things seem well organised. The menu is largely British modern food. Particularly liked the British Tapas starter selection. Service is good, timing was excellent- so often you are rushed from one course to the next but they left just the right amount of time between starter and main. Both meals were very well cooked and tasted great. All in all very good experience- It was very busy on Saturday night when we had dinner- so often this is when things fall apart but they had it covered. Good atmosphere- quite lively. Will be returning in the near future."

  • "I arranged a surprise dinner party for 16 for my husbands 70th birthday. We had a semi private area in the dinning area which was ideal for a group that was too small for a function room. The food and service was excellent, i offered my guests to choose from any of the menu options available and was thrilled at the lovely and varied food choices everyone had. At the end of a 5 hour party, I was pleasantly surprised at the bill, it was under my budget and I know everyone had a good time."

  • "I took my husband to dinner on a Sunday evening for his Birthday. I was chatting with the waitress and she said it had been very busy, and it showed. The floor was strewn with dropped food near to the door way to the restaurant it looked like a child had been eating there. It was really off putting and clearly visible but no one made an attempt to clear it up, the restaurant was not busy. The chairs are quite stained and the lighting was way too bright. On the whole the meal was as good as usual and the service was lovely but it wasn't special and made me think would I go again on a Sunday? The loos need some attention too, on the whole they need to spend a couple of nights in the week giving the place some TLC."

  • "We have frequented the Ewe & Lamb a number of times over the last 3-4 years and the food Is generally acceptable but fairly expensive. This time was no different, food was ok, service was attentive, price was high. Only real plus was that we could book via Toptable."
    dined on 18/01/2014
  • "We had a perfect time, the food was excellent we couldn't fault it and the staff were very friendly and very helpful, I read the other reviews before going to the Ewe and Lamb and noticed that someone thought the cheese board was to big, we didn't find that but we did share it. We look forward to going there again, next time I think we will take some friends to enjoy it as much as we did."
    dined on 17/01/2014
  • "We chose from the 2 course for £11 These meals are not huge but just sensible. There was a choice of 5 mains. Our party of 4 had three of them. All of us liked the meals and the desserts"
    dined on 17/01/2014
  • "The staff were attentive and welcoming, offering advice when requested and looked clean and presentable. The restaurant was fairly empty when we arrived (5.30pm) but filled steadily , it didn't feel overcrowded, but did get quite noisy, making conversation difficult. The menu is wide ranging with good descriptions of the dishes received. Our choices ranged from the set menu to a la carte, through fish, meat and vegetarian options. The food was hot, delivered in a reasonable time together with side orders. All our party were happy with their choices, only leaving what could not be fitted in! Desserts were all delicious, visually pleasing, and at the correct temperature. I would recommend the restaurant and will be returning."

  • "We love this place. We definitely would return to try more dishes. The prawn starter was truly amazing and the Coq au Van was fabulous. My wife loved the rib eye steak with the red wine & bacon jus. The whole meal (3 courses) was just perfect, we couldn't fault a single mouthful. Service was well-timed, the staff were knowledgeable & very friendly."
    dined on 04/01/2014
  • "Food well presented and imaginative-well cooked.Portion of cheese and biscuits far too big. Cutlery was of poor quality and no soup spoon. Staff were attentive and well dressed.Excellent wine list. However i think the price was a little high for 3 courses."
    dined on 31/12/2013
  • "Considering the cost of each ticket (£50) ,there was nothing special at all ,not even a free glass of wine or champagne. The food was good but nothing out standing and grossly over priced !!. I speak as somebody who has eaten in some the best restaurants in London."
    dined on 31/12/2013
  • "The ewe and lamb is a favorite if ours. Food is superb, outstanding service and good value. Can't fault it!"

  • "Great service, good food, one small problem dealt with very quickly and efficiently. Whole team enjoyed their Christmas lunch meal. Will be coming back and would recommend to family and friends."
    dined on 23/12/2013
  • "Some of our family descended on us early for Christmas this year so we took them for a morning out at Avoncroft (loved it) and then to lunch at the Ewe and Lamb. I'll confess that we had tried to book at another local pub where we'd enjoyed lunch before but they were fully booked. Lucky us! The Ewe and Lamb was better! We all enjoyed some great food, including brilliant tapas, massive ploughman's, delicious ciabattas (cajun chicken specially recommended, nearly as good as the steak with pepper sauce) good beer and wine, served by friendly staff. Five very happy customers who will definitely come again - soon!"

  • "Excellent 18th Wedding Anniversary meal with great food & service...even if it was with two small children in tow! x"
    dined on 16/12/2013
  • "All aspects of our dining experience at the Ewe & Lamb was fantastic. The pub is very clean and light and the staff are extremely friendly and helpful. There is a very extensive menu and we chose the 'british tapas' starter which was excellent. The meal sizes are very generous and great value for money. We would definitely recommend to family & friends for a special occasion."
    dined on 14/12/2013
  • "Booked and ammended on line. Worked very well except didn't see facility to book xmas menu. Strangely we couldn't get this choice because it had to be pre- booked. However our choices were good. It was very busy so the service was pushed but it was acceptable."
    dined on 14/12/2013
  • "The food is very tasty, the venue is smart and the stafg are always on hand. Will be going again."
    dined on 07/12/2013
  • "For a winter menu, it would have been nice to have a choice of hot desserts. The daily menu only had cold desserts and not much else on the main menu. Not really the time of year for ice cream, custard more suitable."
    dined on 02/12/2013
  • "I and the party I was with rated this restaurant very highly. The food was delicious, the vegetarians amongst us were very pleased with the variety and quality of suitable food, the service was friendly and efficient without being pushy or rushed. Although the restaurant was very busy, the environment was calm and relaxing. This is a very pleasant place to dine and we thought the meals were excellent value for money."
