Diner Reviews
  • "My partner, my son and myself visited the grill on Easter Sunday. I was pretty disappointment with my main meal which was chicken, that was dry and plain. The poor selection of both deserts and main meals were also a let down. I have visited the grill on many occasions and always enjoyed it, until this particular day. "

  • "The restaurant interior is stunning. The fillet steak was phenomenal although when ordering two portions of chunky chips we received one bowl of around 12 chips. Our waiter was slow, rude and at points made us feel uncomfortable. He had a French accent and there was a communication barrier although the service around us seemed smooth enough. I went with my boyfriend for our 1 year anniversary and overall we would definitely recommend in fact I'm thinking of booking up for my upcoming birthday."

  • "I have dined at the grill room in 29 so many times and have never had a meal that has disappointed. The staff are all welcoming and friendly and even though the place was 'heaving', and my wife was 45 mins late (Usual!), the food order was taken promptly and, importantly, delivered very quickly. We had a set two course that was extremely good value, it was my own fault that the overall bill came to £200, we didn't want to leave so stayed until the early hours sipping cocktails in the bar.....I'll be back as soon as I've saved up again!"

  • "The service was very good and they dealt with my gluten free option without any hassle. We went for lunch and the lunch menu had a good choice of food for all tastes. What a lovely afternoon. :)"

  • "Had a lovely meal and It was the best fillet steak I've had for a while, we also asked to try the oysters and they were very nice, everything was well presented."

  • "If you like your meat then the Grill Room is a must. Absolutely the best steaks as the prices would indicate. It's not cheap --this wasn't a booking made via any special offers-and throw in a couple of bottles of Fleurie@ £30 each and a meal for 4 plus drinks was over £60 per head. But the food was perfectly cooked, the ambience of the building is great--from the bar area with pianist doing her best to jazz up some classics, to the dining area with some private rooms available for larger parties. 29 as an establishment has been on the go for a while now and still seems to be popular with those seeking to impress."

  • "The food and ambiance was fantastic. Service was great. Joanah did an outstanding job and went above and beyond. thanks for a great evening!"
    dined on 21/03/2014
  • "Responded to an email offering 20% off food. Booked on the strength of the email offer. Food fantastic, service excellent and then it went a bit wrong when the bill came. The food was not discounted. There was then the dilemma of do I challenge this. Despite the embarrassment I did challenge. A full 15 minutes later we were still trying to sort it out with "do you have the email Sir to prove it" etc ( all conducted politely ), I eventually had to forward the email to reception. A bit of a shame as the meal, service and ambience were perfect."
    dined on 09/03/2014
  • "The service and attention to detail was very good. Went for the 2 course for £15 thought the menu was limited and options didn't include potatoes/veg or chips which had to be purchased seperately. The food was good though."
    dined on 08/03/2014
  • "They took full drinks order at 7.45pm then informed us at 7.50 that we had to leave table by 8. Food was good in nice surrounds but appears unless you are a club member or celebrity they are not interested in your business."

  • "An impeccable dining experience with ambience style, and service flair."
    dined on 21/02/2014
  • "The quality of the service is the best you can experience in Glasgow. The food is good although i think the price of the steak options are slightly high for the presentation."

  • "Very nice evening at the grill room, great food, fillet steak was amazing...great service too.."

  • "Mid week dinner with European colleagues. Not sure I can remember having such poor service in a long time. There were sufficient servers for a Wednesday night, but we were left waiting too long, staff were disorganized, uninterested and some looked fairly unkempt with food smeared clothing. Wish I'd taken my colleagues elsewhere. Steak was good, rest was average. Overall was over priced."

  • "Lovely relaxing afternoon, good food, good wine, good service, with good friends. Thank you."

  • "Our small party was celebrating a 60th birthday but we are not really the type of people for formal restaurants. In this case however, the food was excellent (we all had steaks, which were cooked exactly to our individual specifications), as was the service and was delivered in an unfussy, straightforward way that put us completely at our ease. The restaurant was busy but, despite arriving late because of a traffic hold-up, we were put under no pressure to vacate the table, which added substantially to the enjoyment of the day."

  • "Really enjoyed our Sunday dinner at the Grill Room - three of us had the roast and one had the breaded stuffed chicken breast, and all were delicious. Plus we all loved our starters too. Service was very attentive and I'd definitely go back!"

  • "Booked the 2 for £29 deal for a birthday meal. Was really pleased with quality of food and drink and value for money."

  • "As always great food but the special offer of £29 for two made it great value as well. A very enjoyable lunch."

  • "have a very enjoyable evening food, service and atmosphere were all excellent."

  • "Thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience we had at lunchtime. Excellent food, staff very friendly and helpful, and in lovely surroundings."
    dined on 24/01/2014
  • "Pros: nice room, good atmosphere, extensive a la care menu, freshly baked bread is tasty!, shellfish bisque Cons: generic prawn cocktail, bland sides, disappointing porterhouse steak (over charred, full of moisture but no flavour), patchy service. Proceed with caution. I've had better, more value for money meals at Grill on the Corner and Bo'Vine and if you're into your steaks you might want to try these places first. But maybe I'll be back for a second assessment."

  • "Had a really great time celebrating a friends birthday. Centrally located, food very good value and the service was excellent. Waiters were extremely friendly typical Glasgow style! Went through to the lounge post lunch for cocktails and again had a lovely afternoon drinking cocktails. Very relaxing atmosphere and we enjoyed it so much we are going back in a few weeks time. Highly recommend Angela great for afternoon tea too!"

  • "I am very fussy about how I like my fillet steaks cooked. I ask for them 'very rare' - not quite blue, but very bloody. My steak was perfectly cooked! And my partner said his steak pie was delicious. Atmosphere was ok and the pianist was great, however it was quite quiet. I found this strange as when I was booking online the only table available was 4.45pm, and we left the restaurant at about 7pm with no more people arriving. It was Sunday evening and those days can be quite quiet, but I think our dining experience would have been better if there was a busier atmosphere, especially as the website suggested otherwise. Overall a very pleasant experience."
    dined on 29/12/2013
  • "Relaxed atmosphere and great food but don't get a table below the air con units unless you enjoy an icy blast with your meal."
    dined on 10/01/2014
  • "We had the 2 for £29 menu, which is absolutely outstanding value for money. A special mention to the veggie options which were refreshingly different from the normal options! Lovely romantic meal looking out to royal exchange square. Service was a little lacklustre but we will definitely return !"
    dined on 02/01/2014
  • "This was my first visit to the Grill Room and I could not fault it. The staff from the girl at reception to the waiting staff were all helpful and friendly. The choice of food on the pre theatre menu was excellent. It was hard to choose. My only regret was that after the excellent bread, starter and main course I could not manage a desert."
    dined on 31/12/2013
  • "best steak ever had as a returning customer hope to be back soon."
    dined on 31/12/2013
  • "On entering the restaurant I had high hopes, the surroundings were delightful. Our waiter however was not, he barey acknowledged us, we were handed our decidedly average starts over the table, not placed in front of us. When changing from white to red wine we had to ask for fresh glasses. The steaks were tasty but the 'handcut' chips looked they came from a packet! Having handed over more than £200 for this dining experience we decided to move on rather than stay in the bar. As we left we passed our waiter who did not make eye contact let alone say goodbye. I would not recommend this establishment to anyone."

  • "Eaten here a number of times and always delighted with food and service. Friends visiting for Christmas, so wanting to 'show' the best of this fine city, the The Grill Room was right up there - and did not disappoint. From the moment you walk in, friendly greeting, up the stairs lined with interesting photos/memorabilia of famous and notable previous guests/diners - could spend 20 minutes there but the table awaits (always time on the way out). Beautifully appointed dining room, attentive staff, lovely homemade bread bought straight to the table, still warm, while you order drinks and peruse the menu - if you love steak your going to think you've died and gone to heaven!!! What more can I say, an excellent experience."

  • "Beautiful food and will definitely return. A bit disappointed in the service."
    dined on 27/12/2013
  • "The venue service and food was very good, although some of our group had goats cheese crusting which was served straight from the fridge. Wine starting at £24 per bottle is steep, and we were overcharged for coffee Overall I would go back as the venue is lovely"
    dined on 30/11/2013
  • "The arrival of steaming bread, which I can only assume was freshly baked, gave a great first impression (after the secluded entrance, smart interior, sense of class, etc.). Went with my girlfriend, who felt her chicken dish was a bit plain, though enjoyed potato and leek soup starter - this really was good soup. My shepherd's pie was fantastic, great chunks of perfectly cooked, tender lamb, rather than mince. House wine was very drinkable. Overall a pleasant friday evening pre-theatre and would definitely go back. Eyeing up graduation dinner! Oh, and that bread really is amazing, especially with lots of butter, crust was like nothing I'd eaten before. I ate far too much of it and couldn't finish the main. Well worth it."

  • "Had breakfast with my 5 friends - big plate full and not greasy - set us up for the day. Lovely surroundings and very reasonably priced."
