A word from The Guinea
At the Guinea, we specialize in serving you the finest aged, grass fed English and Scotch beef. We are founder members of the Scotch beef Club whose president, Princess Anne is a passionate supporter. The Guinea also enjoys a huge following for steak pies. We have been National Steak pie champions no less than 3 times. We don’t ignore fish and seafood lover’s either and offer you a quality selection.

The Guinea is unique in that the restaurant and private dining room is housed with the walls of one of London’s oldest pubs established in 1423. This means that not only do we offer you a fine selection of wines, particularly Claret and Burgundy, we also serve Young’s award winning ales. Respected restaurant guides like Hardens, Zagat and the Good Food guide nearly always remark on our warm and friendly service. Acclaimed food critic Giles Coren also placed us in his list of top 50 favourite restaurants in the UK (The Times January 2014).

Diner Reviews
  • "We returned here for dinner after an absence of several years. We brought friends who were first timers. We were not disappointed. The setting was intimate and comfortable. The service was attentive and friendly. The food was outstanding. The waiter and sommelier recommendations were perfect. It was a pleasant evening all around, one we hope to replicate."

  • "Been going to the Guinea on our first night in London for ages. Pint of Bombardier to start. Porterhouse for two is the best around. Good wine values for London. Sean greets you in the front of the restaurant entrance."

  • "we went there for dinner and we enjoyed food and also the selection of wines. Waiters were very kind and polite. It is a very intimate place, but considering the 2 rooms...there is enough space. I don't eat meat and have had a nice selection also for me in the Menu We will go back there for sure. It is an English pub with very good food."

  • "Excellent steaks cooked over open grill by a passionate expert. Sommelier is knowledgeable & considerate. The only disappointment were the starters. Historic ambience with a small dining area."

  • " My guest is an American who comes over from San Fransisco twice a year. He is a real Anglophile and loves the Guinea. So we both order steak and mushroom pie, chips and spinach, washed down with an excellent New Zealand Pinot Noir. I have to say that the steak pie was somewhat disappointing - the pastry "lid" was tough and therefore undigestible. Whilst there was plenty of steak, it was also a bit chewy. The chips were fine, but the spinach didn't have much flavour. Having said that - would I go back? Yes, I would."

  • "Good menu, wines a bit pricey, ambience spoiled by blocked and dirty toilets that our guest commented on."

  • "The Guinea Grille can always be counted on for good food and drink and attentive service. The atmosphere is always festive."

  • "I have been a repeat customer of The Guinea for more than 30 years. Its is an exceptional place. One we have recommended to friends during that entire time and NEVER, NEVER has it let us done. Well done and please continue for I hope to be coming back for another 30 years. And I'm a Yank!!"

  • "Great steaks, attentive service, treated like an honoured guest. Very nice side dishes as well. Good list of modest wines."

  • "Went to the Guinea specifically for the steaks which did not disappoint; in fact they were extremely good as was the rest of the food. However the service was patchy; our vegetables didn't arrive with the main course and they seemed overstretched when the restaurant was full. There is a good ambience but the room is quite cramped"

  • "but not so good for vegetarians. Good quality meat and cooked to perfection. The service was good, too. It's a very masculine sort of place, but don't be put off by that. don't expect the latest food fashion. You go there for simple but well cooked food."

  • "Hard to find a better filet steak in all of London. Used to be a jacket and tie location, but smart casual works well today. Save room for the sticky pudding dessert...delicious!"

  • "Good food, service and drinks. Good value for money."

  • "Have been going to the Guinea Grill during every visit to London during the past 20 years. I miss Farid, the long time sommelier, who has recently retired. Nonetheless, the Guinea continues to be a great restaurant."

  • "The Guinea has exceptional meat and they cook it perfection! No wonder they have so many awards. The service is great, waiters are extremely kind and efficient. If you want to book for 8 people or more, they have a beautiful room for big groups. "

  • "Been having dinner at The Guinea on every trip to London for the past 30 years. Beautifully prepared steaks and accompaniments; very good wine list; and always dependably consistent over the 30-year period. Service is impeccable and friendly. Very good ambiance, and quiet enough to carry on a pleasant conversation."

  • "I always enjoy going back to this restaurant, I usually have the dinner picked out in my mind the food is so good i love it. The staff are very helpful and attentive. The only thing wrong with the place is the tables are to close together but it usually means we end up talking to someone on the other table."

  • "Recently visited his old favourite to have supper with a friend and our two sons. An unfortunate mistake, they are fixated on catering to American hedge fund managers and if you don't want the wine from the bottom of the list there is a dissappointing lack of enthusiasm. Warm white wine and a veal chop arrived dry, having been ordered with no enquiry on their part as to how I wanted it cooked. Cheese selection poorly presented and soulless with not enough biscuits and half of them digestives which always baffles me. £260 for four, memorable only as a dissappointment."

  • "I've been to the Guinea 5 or 6 times for dinner (many more visits to the pub area for their nice cask ales), and it never disappoints. This time, I had the bone-in sirloin, medium rare, and it was prepared to perfection. Their creamed spinach is superb; more spinach and less cream, and oh so tasty. Topped it off with a sticky toffee pud and a nice port. Their other specialty, of course, are the meat pies. I've had the steak and mushroom pie several times, and it's amazing. Don't come here expecting an inexpensive meal (though the pies are a good deal), but you'll definitely leave happy."

  • "I had a really nice dinner at the Guinea Grill with an old friend from out of town. I'm not usually much of a steak eater, but the Guinea's sirloin tasted delicious and was grilled perfectly. The service was fine and we weren't even slightly rushed to give up the table. It's certainly not a bargain, but at least everything measures up."

  • "Great food, superb service and atmosphere. Decent sized portions of food so often lacking in restaurants these days. Will definitely be returning"

  • "Meat was good however side dishes were more than average and the wild mushroom sauce didn't taste any mushroom at all and was way too salty to eat (disappointing since you pay £3.50 for that). Tables are too close from one another so no intimacy at all. Great service though!"
    dined on 11/04/2014
  • "This was my second visit and it was as good as I remember! It's a lovely old London pub with the grill room at the back and full of character, tables are fairly close together but that is part of the character. The starter of mussels in a tomato sauce with a scallop was excellent and the sirloin was delicious! The service was a good balance of attention and friendliness."

  • "A hidden gem tucked away in a quaint mews away from the hustle of Mayfair, The Guinea offers a fine range of wines and Young's beer where you can have a drink or two before stepping behind the bar into the dining room passing a wonderful array of the finest cuts of meat proudly displayed in a chiller cabinet to tempt you and which is explained with pride by your host en route to your table. The restaurant is full of old world charm which reminded me of Rules and the service was impeccable and the food well presented and equally delicious; do try if you like your steak or pies as they are particularly renowned for them and from what I could see, they were selling fast. A wonderful dining experience."

  • "The food was sub par. Way over priced for what you received. My father are there many years ago and said it was good. That was not the case here. The booth was not the most comfortable and we had a hard time understanding our waiter. I had the duck and it was fine, nothing special. My guests who had the filet mignonette were very disappointed. Thank goodness I paid for them. The martinis were too strong and a dirty martini does not work for them. Make sure to order more dressing for your salad. It was so light, we thought they forgot. Need I say more? Very poor overall"

  • "The Guinea an oldie but goodie. Some of the best meat in London. Slightly cramped by today's standards, but in terms of qulaity and atmosphere it has it all."

My colleague had sirloin steak and said his was excellent as well. I would recommend to all and look forward to my next trip over to eat there again."

  • "I went to The Guinea with a guest from Japan. Japanese beef (Wagyu) has superior reputation worldwide but my guest actually prefers the beef at the Guinea. Not only the quality of the beef but how it is seasoned and cooked makes this restaurant the top of the tops. This is the place I want to take my friends and clients to impress them!"

  • "Had my birthday lunch here with my family - grill room ambience and service excellent, grill chef very welcoming as was the young lady on reception who talked us through the different meats available. The waiters & sommelier were very attentive. Excellent starters followed by Porterhouse Steaks (about 850/900g for 2 diners) Cooked to perfection! Would not hesitate to return or recommend to friends looking for a perfect British restaurant serving traditional foods. Roll on next special occasion!"

  • "I go to The Guinea a couple of times a year. The service is of a high standard as is the quality of the food. The Beef Wellington on the specials menu was top notch. Recommended."

  • "This was our second visit to The Guinea in just under 12 months and we enjoyed it just as much as our first. The steaks (sirloin and fillet) were cooked to perfection and the sides (chips and sauteed onions) were very good indeed, particularly the onions. I was a little underwhelmed by my blue cheese/walnut salad starter (the leaves were a bit bland and there were not enough walnuts), but my partner was very satisfied with her caesar salad. We opted for glasses of wine rather than sharing a bottle as we had done one our last visit and found this to be much better value, though with 3 people or more the bottles would almost certainly prove their worth. Highly recommended over chains like The Hawksmoor et al. for a special occasion."

  • "The service and quality of food was outstanding . The portions were generous and good selection of wines. I will definitely recommend this restaurant for a special occasion ."

  • "We made reservations well ahead of time for Valentine's Day. Our reservation was not found immediately and we were questioned about it. Seating should not have been a problem as there were many vacant tables during our reserved time of 7:00. We both ordered the filet. My husband's was extremely salty and he sent it back (not an inexpensive cut). By the time his meal arrived, I was almost done eating, his sides were cold and his steak was not cooked to order. I think it had one more "moo" let. We did not complain any further, payed the hefty bill and agreed not to eat there again. We traveled from the states to spend my birthday and Valentine's in London."
